I enjoy moments where “dots connect”  and I realize how “connections” cause or influence other things.  Connecting the dots between books or articles that I read is sometimes pretty exciting.

For example, previously I read Friedman’s The World is Flat.  While I did not agree with all of his positions, Friedman helped me to better understand implications of globalization.  Currently, I am reading Bonk’s The World is Open:  How Web Technology Is Revolutionizing Education. A common thread (dot connector) between Friedman and Bonk is importance of the internet and Web 2.0 technologies in enabling worldwide connection and interaction.

Generally, my  blog postings focus on technology tools and their uses in teaching-learning processes.  This posting steps away from technology tools per se to  connecting dots between what Friedman and Bonk have to say about how technology is changing the ways we live, learn, communicate, and collaborate.

If you have not read these books, I suggest them to you.  I think you will enjoy the read and conclude the time well spent.

Hoi daar. Mijn oor-onsteking is nu over, en ik heb er alleen een hoog monotoom gepiep in mijn rechteroor aan overgehouden (bijhoorlijk vervelend) maar dat overleef ik wel. als het alleen nog een paar dagen zo blijft ga ik naar de dokter. Dus ik ben niet meer chagerijnig en dus ben ik weer gemotiveerd om verder te gaan met mijn blogs, waarbij ik niet meer mag zeggen dat dit moet van school omdat het de lezer helemaal niks kan schelen. maar dit moet dus wel van school dus ik zie geen reden om het niet op te schrijven, maar aangezien ik een brave leerling ben doe ik het toch niet want ik ben een leerling en zij die zeggen dat dit moet zijn leraren (en andere volwassen personen) dus heb ik daar maar naar te luisteren.

Hallo daar ben ik weer, de herfstvakantie is voorbij, het is weer woensdag en zoals gewoonlijk heb ik weer ergens een ontsteking, dit keer in mijn oor. (dat had ik al vaker maar nog nooit zo lang) en dat brengt wat problemen met zich mee zoals: problemen met concentratie op school, ik hoor maar half, door de pijn kan ik niet goed slapen en daar wordt ik moe van. Maar omdat het woensdag is en ik bij dat geval zit waar ik dit voor moet doen. (AOT geloof ik) dit keer iets met een andere site waar ik een post voor moet schrijven, maar dat gaat nu nogal lastig, en naarmate de tijd verstrijkt begin ik dit blog gedoe steeds saaier te vinden. En dat alles zorgt ervoor dat ik weer niks weet om over te schrijven. (net zoals in het begin) dus verwacht niet veel activiteit op bonkenergy en op bestelkado blog geval. ik heb in ieder geval druppels voor mijn oor gekregen. en daarvoor ben ik in mijn eentje naar de doctor EN de apotheek gegaan en dat is best wel knap voor een autist. het grapige is, dat ik op mijn zij moet gaan liggen, twee druppels in mijn oor moet laten vallen zonder dat het vlesje mijn oor raakt en daarna moet ik vijf minuten lang stil liggen, en dat moet dan drie keer per dag. Dus ook ’s middags als ik op school zit, dat gaat vervelend worden. ik heb al is een keer mij vreemd moeten gedragen op school doordat ik een ontsteking had op mijn kont, ik mocht twee weken lang niet in het zonligt komen door de medicijnen. Maar dan zit je alleen maar de hele dag binnen en dat doen meer leerlingen hier omdat ze soms nogal agresief uit de hoek kunnen komen, of juist helemaal niet en still in een hoekje gaan wiegen omdat het te druk is en ze het niet begrijpen. Dus dan valt het niet op als er nog iemand extra binnenblijft.

Damnit, time fades away quickly, missed some days of postings I guess…

Well, time to rant about something then. =P
This one is sadly about Dragon Age: Origins… don’t get me wrong, I really can’t await to get my hands on the newest installment from Bioware, coming out in early November, but… it’s about this retarded disease called DLC.
This terrible word got popular a while back only because of the X-Box… paying for recycled stuff. New skins, wallpapers, 1 quest (!) for your bucks, instead of a whole addon with enough content to justify the price-tag.
Anyway, where was I?
Bioware got EAed and they already have posted their first DLC phase. And the second I look closer and read this crap I’m quite a little bit upset… Why you ask?

We can see 3 Add-Ons here, the smaller brother from a**hole… I mean DLC.
At first, The Stone Prisoner! Sounds very interesting to be honest, and according to all those information given (with an awesome video you can find there too) the guys at Bioware made a fine job to add an interesting character to a game, which even hasn’t been released yet. So where is the mistake here? I don’t even mean the logic regarding a 15$ price-tag.
Bloody hell, it’s because the game isn’t even out yet, this isn’t an add-on at all. They did that for the core game anyway, hence you get it thrown at you for free (instead of 15$!), because if you read further you can see that everyone who buys the game gets it for free. AWESOME! You save 15 bucks! Ain’t that grand?
You greedy bastards, I pay 40$ already. I don’t get anything for free!

The next Add-On, Warden’s Keep, clearly also got ripped from the core game, but the price-tag isn’t obviously not that hefty. Because you don’t get it thrown at you. You already saved 15 bucks you know, so those 7$ are a fine investment…

And the last one is an Add-On too which… costs nothing as it is normal content for Dragon Age: Origins anyway…

So, to summarize this wall of text, what a great future… the intended gameplay for the core game (you pay 40 bucks for) gets ripped apart to offer quality (no sarcasm, it’s Bioware) DLC. That’s what I’m talking about.
Let me ask a serious question… how about I torrent this game and pay for the DLC only?
Well it’s Bioware, I can’t do that. =P

The previously announced first-line drop of shirts in September was quietly postponed due to several reasons. Instead of a sloppy, slutty big bang we’re going to come quietly. En hier is het derde geval waar ik over ga schrijven. De paniek knop voor op je toetsenbord. Oftewel de PANIC BUTTON. Het geval is rood en kan je gewoon op een lege plek op je toetsenboord plakken. (met zijn zelfklevende onderkant) Je kan er helemaal lijp op worden en uitflippen op dat ding, en er gebeurt niks. Dit is een geweldig ding voor bij je computer en als je in paniek bent en je weet niet meer wat je moet doen, kun je je gewoon helemaal uitleven op een rood panic knopje dat niks doet. Sterker nog, je kan hem helemaal in elkaar slaan en het doet hem niks. het enige wat dat knopje eigenlijk doet is ervoor zorgen dat je niet je vuist door het beeldscherm heen ramt. (en geloof me, dat wil je niet) En voor degenen die minder agresief zijn is het gewoon een grapig nutteloos dingetje. Onder rustig versta ik niet iemand die koelbloedig een keer Ctrl, Alt, delete in drukt en dan rustig wacht tot je computer weer reageert, maar iemand die zichzelf een hartverzwakking bezorgd door continu op Ctrl, Alt, delete te rammen en daarna weer rustig ademhalen als de computer weer reageert. (corrigerende tik mag ook) Want, als je zo koelbloedig bent dat dat maar een keer hoeft, heb je al helemaal niks aan de panic knop, want die is er alleen als alternatief voor Ctrl, Alt, delete.

volgens mij heb ik mijzelf daarnet tegengesproken… Maakt niet uit, de panic knop is net zo groot als een normaal knopje, rood en er staan in blokletters PANIC op, dus is het zowiezo leuk om daarop te drukken, gewoon omdat het altijd leuk is om op een rood knopje te drukken. Dus, voor de agresieve computer gebruikers onder ons is het iets om ervoor te zorgen dat je je beeldscherm niet vermoord, voor de rustige is het een keuk alternatief voor Ctrl, Alt, delete (ook al heb je er niks aan) en voor de koelbloedige is het waarschijnlijk toch niks want als je zo rustig met je computer kan omgaan, vind je dat knopje waarschijnlijk niet zo amusant als/dan mij. Weet iemand hier eigenlijk het verschil tussen als en dan? Ik snap eigenlijk niet waar iedereen over zeurt, ik ben zo iemand die vind dat: als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel is het goed en die schrijf foutjes maken niks uit

Like most sports, cycling features unique terminology. Below is a list of the most commonly used words and phrases in the sport of competitive cycling.

Attack: A sudden attempt to get away from another rider
Blocking: When a rider tries to get in the way of other riders, usually done as part of a team strategy to slow down the main field when other team members are ahead in a breakaway
Bonk: Known as “hitting the wall” in marathon running, this is when a rider completely runs out of energy
Breakaway: A rider of group of riders who have separated themselves ahead of the main pack
Bridge the Gap: When a rider or group of riders is attempting to reach a group farther ahead
Chasers: Riders who are attempting to “bridge the gap” to catch the lead group
Criterium: A multi-lap event on a course usually a mile or less in length and of medium total distance,
usually 25-75 miles
Derailleur: The mechanism that moves the chain from one gear to another
Director Sportif: Pronounced “Director sporteef”, this is the manager of the team
Domestique: A rider who sacrifices any individual honors to the team leader who is in contention to win
Drafting: Riding closely behind another rider, which creates a slipstream, or air pocket. The lead rider
expends up to 30 percent more energy than the following rider does
Drop: To leave another rider or riders behind by attacking. Losing contact with the group in which they are riding will drop fatigued riders
Echelon: A line of riders taking orderly turns at the lead and staggered so that each rider will get maximum protection from the wind. Also called a “paceline”
Feeding: At some point during a long road race it is necessary for riders to replace expended energy.
Riders are given a “musette,” a small cloth bag, containing food and water bottles. Riders grab the bag from the team support personnel, remove the contents and put them in the pockets of their jerseys to eat when most convenient. They generally prefer high-energy foods that break down quickly.
Field: The main group of riders, also known as the “pack,” “peloton,” or “bunch”
Field Sprint: The final sprint between a group of riders, not necessarily for first place
Force the Pace: When one rider goes harder than the pack to increase the tempo
Gap: The distance between individual or groups
Hammering: Very steady, strenuous pedaling.

Sitting In: When one rider refuses to take a pull and break the wind for the group in which he/she is riding. A derogatory term is “Wheel Sucker”
Slipstream: The pocket of air created by a moving rider, just as in automobile or motorcycle racing. See “drafting”
Soigneur: Pronounced “Swa-neur” Comparable to a trainer in other sports, this person gives massages and watches the physical health of the riders along with the team doctors
Sprint: A sudden burst of speed for the finish of a race involving more than one rider.
Stage Race: A series of individual races- time trials, road races, circuit races or criteriums – grouped into one event that lasts several days. The rider who has the lowest accumulated time for all stages determines the winner. The most famous stage race in the world is the Tour de France, which spans 2,500 miles in 22 days.
Take a Flyer: When one rider goes off the front of the pack, usually alone
Time Trial: An individual race against the clock, often called the “race of truth”
Velodrome: An oval banked track, usually 333.33 meters in length. In general, track riders and road riders compete in separate kinds of events. The difference in training and ability is similar to the difference between sprinters and long-distance runners.
Wheel Sucker: A derogatory term, referring to a rider who always sits in and never expends any energy by taking a pull at the front.

Maybe I should stop reading this on public transport. I think many a hapless passenger has snuck a casual glance over my shoulder and started wondering if perhaps someone’s slipped some sort of a hallucinogenic aphrodisiac in his morning coffee.

En hier is dat tweede ding want ik doe er drie. (zie vorige post) Deze keer doe ik het over roboreptile, weer zo’n robot geval net zoals robosapien, robopet, roboraptor etc.

Roboreptile is eigenlijk een robot die iets wegheeft van een reptiel… zoals de naam al aangeeft dus eigenlijk was het compleet nutteloos dat ik dat schreef. Maar het was de bedoeling dat deze post weer 350 woorden lang wordt dus elk woord is welkom, ook als het een nutteloos woord is. Maar dat mag ik eigenlijk niet schrijven, En roboreptile is een robot en robots zijn alleen leuk als ze ook nog iets kunnen, en roboreptile kan dus ook iets… zoals het hoort. Maar wat? Dat is de vraag, en ik heb daar een antwoord voor, dankzij de site bestelkado.nl (als dit geen reclame is weet ik het ook niet meer) En hier zijn de dingen die roboreptile kan. hallo daar, ik ben die gast van bonkenergy, en net zoals mijn anderre blog moet dit weer van school en heb ik weer geen idee waar ik het over moet hebben. Maar deze keer MOEST ik het hebben over drie verschillende gadgets die je op bestelkado.nl kunt kopen. En ik heb net te horen gekregen dat ik niet meer van die dingen mag schrijven als: Ik moet dit van school maar bla bla bla ik weet niks bla bla etc. Dus, in de volgende post zal ik dat niet doen.

dus heb ik besloten het maar over de PLASMA BOL te hebben, maar ik weet dus nog steeds niet wat ik daar over moet vertellen,maar het is dus de bedoeling om reclame te maken voor die site dus ik mag dingen zoals: die bol stinkt naar weetikveelwat (serieus ik heb geen idee wat voor geur dat is). Dus helemaal niet zeggen. Maar dat heb ik zojuist gedaan, stom van mij. Hoe dan ook, ook al ruikt hij een beetje vreemd, dat ding is nog steeds heel leuk om niet alleen naar te kijken maar ook om aan te raken want, als je het aanraakt krijg je opeens van die paarse “bliksemschichtjes” die je vingers volgen heel leuk om te doen, vroeger had mijn broer ook zo’n ding en toen was het ook al geweldig. Als kind had ik altijd de nijging om dat ding kapot te gooien om te kijken of er iets vreemds gebeurde… dat heb ik toch maar niet gedaan om drie redenen: ik was bang dat ik een schok kreeg of het ding ontplofte ofzo, iets in die richting, dat ding was niet eens van mij maar van mijn broer en als iemand dat ding kapot ging gooien dan was dat mijn broer en de laatste reden was dat mijn moeder dat nooit goed zou vinden. Maar genoeg over mijn jeugd terug naar de PLASMA BOL. dat met die vingers had ik net verteld maar dat ding reageert ook nog op geluid, dus als je een keer hard schreeuwt doet die bol ook nog iets. heel leuk.

En het was de bedoeling dat ik minimaal 350 woorden moet gebruiken dus nu komt er een stuk met tekst die helemaal niks met die geweldige PLASMA BOL te maken heeft. Want ik heb nu geen flauw idee wat ik verder daarover kan zeggen, dus… Nu heb ik wel genoeg woorden en kan ik stoppen met schrijven.

Surprise! Surprise!
You’ll never guess what i did?
I was sleeping over at me boyfriends house and we were getting into it… like really getting into it. The next thing we know we are falling to the floor, as one corner of the bed broke away from the head rest. Didn’t know whether to laugh or cry really.
After that had to spend about half and hour taking the rest of the bed down and put the mattress on the floor.
We didn’t even finish our love making session. So not fair!!!

Bonk: Brink of Extintion será lançado no XBLA

This is how I feel this morning. Quite the Monday, to say the least. Also, I’ve heard quite enough about the VMA’s this weekend already, I still think that it was quite crass of Kanye to steal the poor girl’s spotlight. Aside from the antics of the morning news, this weekend was incredibly enjoyable. Relaxing? Quite. Productive? Not as much as I’d like it to be. Sunday Jen and I went to the Wayne County fair, which was an experience all in it’s own. (Those evil carnival people, practically stealing your money out from under your nose.) It’s more of a people-watching party, since it’s just a different culture your dealing with. (Oh! I also found out that I can speak pig, though I was bummed that I somehow missed Ski-ball. I love Ski-ball, and I don’t know why.)

A new challenger has appeared!

School is ramping up again, and I’m beginning to get super busy. Let’s just peak into Odin’s planner for the week, shall we? Philosophy quiz today, Paper for Early American Novel due by the end of the week, 3rd I.S Story Due by Wednesday, Story synopsis due for Advanced Fictional Writing due Tuesday, along with finishing Then In the Bar. (This, by the way, is all along side the fact that I’ve got to start finding more books to read for my I.S, specifically in regards to contemporary collections of fiction in short story form.)

I feel like a bastard though. I keep trying to talk to my family back home, but I keep getting interrupted, and having to call them back later. (Only thing is, I keep getting swamped with work and realizing I have to call them back at midnight. Blergh.)

Oh well, onto philosophy!

Puppy Philosophy. 'Nuff said.

Most of us cyclists have a handful of reliable routes that we ride.  I am no different.  Whether I’m heading south into Vischer Ferry or north and west toward Charlton, my routes are a point to point affair – beginning and ending in my driveway.

Surprisingly, one thing that had never occurred to me was to define a loop course and do laps around it.  About a month ago, I decided to do just that.  It took some getting used to, but I now consider it a welcome addition to my cadre of routes. 

My observations:

1. Directions: It’s weird riding 11 miles and only making one left turn.  Like most of the terrain out here, it’s rarely flat for more than a half mile.  You’re either going up or down.
2. Poor man’s hill repeats:  There is a nice Berg about 5 miles into the loop.  Every lap takes me up it one more time.
3. Passing the finish line (temptation):  I always set out with a predetermined number of laps to complete.  However, if it’s one of those days that I have dead legs, it’s very tempting to just bag it early when I see the start/finish line.  I haven’t done it yet, but it has crossed my mind.  Also, there are two points along the way where I can take a shortcut home.  I always ignore them and consider them for emergencies only – a storm fast approaching, a mechanical problem, bonked, injury, etc.
4. A nice way to measure out a ride:  It’s almost exactly an 11 mile circuit.  I ride about 2 miles total getting to and from it.  That way, it’s easy for me to know how many calories to bring along and about how long the ride will take (One loop takes about 40-45 minutes).  It’s funny, but when I do the longer point-to-point rides, I feel weird not doing the whole route.  When I ride the loop, it’s ok to only do one circuit because I’m crunched for time.

All in all, I’m glad I did it.  Once again I prove to myself that there can be something more to discover on roads you’ve ridden countless times.
