Faye Dunaway e Warren Beatty como Bonnie e Clyde.

# Primavera Muito Louca

Becky (Parker Posey), Judi (Rachel Dratch) e Gayle (Amy Poehler) são três amigas que se encaixam perfeitamente no protótipo de loser dos filmes americanos. Ingênuas, solteiras e infantis as três têm a chance de reviver os tempos de faculdade curtindo com os jovens durante suas férias.

Becky trabalha para uma senadora mexicana cuja filha “certinha” decide fazer de tudo para recuperar o namorado durante as férias. Para cuidar da reputação da jovem e consequentemente a da sua mãe, Becky viaja com suas amigas para bancar a babá. Entretanto, suas amigas Judi e Gayle tem um propósito bem diferente e entram na festa.

Como seu título sugere, Primavera Muito Louca (Spring Breakdown, Estados Unidos, 2009) é um filme recheado de situações forçadas e momentos clichê. Cegos, gays, loiras burras, mulheres inteligentes, mulheres da política são alvos de piadas nem sempre divertidas. Piores ainda são os momentos em que Becky tenta convencer a filha de sua chefe de que as mulheres devem ser prezadas pelo seu cérebro e não somente pelo corpo.

Para sorte do público Amy Poehler é uma ótima comediante e sua Gayle hilária. Junto com Sophie Monk (que assume o papel de “loira vadia”) ela protagoniza os melhores momentos do filme. E justamente os únicos que valem a pena. Talvez por isso o filme tenha sido lançado diretamente em DVD no Brasil.

# Sob o Domínio do Mal

Veterano da Guerra do Golfo, Raymond Shaw (Liev Scheiber) foi condecorado herói por salvar toda sua unidade. Sua mãe, Eleanor Shaw (Meryl Streep) controla com mãos de ferro sua carreira política com o objetivo de levá-lo a presidência.

Bem longe da Casa Branca, Ben Marco (Denzel Washington) também ex-combatente do Golfo e um dos soldados supostamente salvos por Raymond, convive com pesadelos e lembranças que contradizem a versão “oficial” dos fatos, aquela que desenha Raymond como herói e sob a qual Eleanor constrói sua campanha.

Destinado e dissolver os enigmas de sua memória, Ben irá até Washington onde descobrirá que ele e outros soldados sofreram lavagem cerebral para acreditar no heroísmo do presidenciável. Este também se revelará somente mais uma vítima do golpe e mais além, um marionete da própria mãe. Obviamente, Ben será desacreditado, o FBI será envolvido na trama e alguns tiros e mortes acontecerão.

Lançado no auge da Guerra do Iraque e no ano de reeleição de George W. Bush, Sob o Domínio do Mal (The Machurian Candidate, Estados Unidos, 2004) poderia ter se saído muito bem na tarefa de criticar o uso da guerra para o marketing político. Remake de um homônimo dos anos 60, além de naturais comparações o filme foi vítima da atualização do roteiro cujo teor de ficção científica poderia ter sido mais refinado. E que se preocupa basicamente em colocar Ben e Raymond como vítimas da gananciosa Eleanor e não do belicismo em si.

Entediante do início ao fim, em Sob o Domínio do Mal salva-se apenas Meryl Streep em outro bom desempenho num filme sofrível.

# Noivo Neurótico, Noiva Nervosa

Alvy Singer (Woody Allen) é um cara urbano, comediante, judeu e careta que faz análise a quinze anos. Annie Hall (Diane Keaton) é uma garota do interior que sonha em ser cantora. Absolutamente independente e descolada, Annie conquista Alvy e eles vivem juntos durante um bom tempo. Após o término do relacionamento, Alvy conta a história deles no que chama “fluxo de consciência”. A partir daí resta ao público curtir o nascimento e o desenrolar de um romance sabido “fracassado” ou dito de uma melhor forma, sem o final feliz pressuposto em uma comédia romântica.

A afinação e química entre o casal é indescritível. Seja o diálogo sobre lagostas, sexo, ou drogas, os dois completam-se perfeitamente. Mesmo o figurino masculinizado de Keaton parece refletir sua Annie como uma parte da personalidade de Alvy. Isto é, seu lado sensível, corajoso e arrojado.

Allen e Keaton são sensacionais em seus papéis. Ambos são carismáticos e engraçados, e fica difícil não torcer para que fiquem juntos. O destaque fica para cena em que os dois se cortejam enquanto tentam adivinhar o que o outro está pensando. Ou quando Alvy declara-se afirmando ser Annie “perversa polimorfa”. Ou ainda quando ela canta “Seems Like Old Times“.

Filme que consolidou Woody Allen entre os grandes diretores, Noivo Neurótico, Noiva Nervosa (Annie Hall, Estados Unidos, 1977) é sem dúvidas a obra que resume as melhores características de seu trabalho: doce, original e divertida. É uma tarefa difícil tentar reduzir todas suas qualidades e méritos em poucas linhas. Talvez seja melhor arriscar afirmar que depois de ver essa obra toda comédia romântica parecerá meia-boca.

Ah, nunca é demais lamentar pelo horrível título nacional.

Seems Like Old Times:

# O Roqueiro

Robert “Fish” é um cara esquisito e ressentido. Outrora fizera parte de uma banda que alcançou muito sucesso logo após sua saída. Embora tenha conseguido um emprego medíocre, Fish nunca esqueceu o sonho de ser um rock star. Uma vez que é demitido, ele decide passar o tempo na casa de sua irmã, quando começa a tocar com a banda de seu sobrinho. Um clip deles ensaiando vira hit no Youtube (não só pela musicalidade, mas também pela nudez e estranheza de Fish) e então a banda sai em turnê. Desta forma, como comédia barata que é, o filme mistura ao protagonista tosco a jovens sonhadores e músicos (que após sucessos como Hannah Montana e High School Musical estão se popularizando cada vez mais). O romance é adicionado pela entrada de Kim (Cristina Applegate) na trama e seu interesse por Fish.

Para atores de televisão é muito difícil abocanhar bons papéis no cinema. Depois de anos interpretando a mesma personagem é improvável que eles consigam uma diferente daquela com a qual o público sente-se confortável. Rainn Wilson (do seriado The Office) é bom exemplo. Em O Roqueiro (The Rocker, Estados Unidos, 2008) tudo o que ele faz no papel do protagonista é repetir as expressões e maneirismo que apresenta toda semana na televisão. Seu Fish é exagerado e caricato, mas essa parece ser intenção genuína da personagem. Como não há muito na película fora seu protagonista, sua atmosfera geral acaba refletindo essas características. E o saldo não é bom. Portanto, O Roqueiro não é uma recomendação a se dar.

# Uma Rajada de Balas

Bonnie (Faye Dunaway) conhece Clyde (Warren Beatty) no momento em que ele tenta roubar o carro da mãe dela. Mas ao invés de assustá-la, ele a excita. Entediada com seu trabalho de garçonete, Bonnie deixa sua pequena cidade para roubar bancos ao lado do parceiro e amante. Logo os dois estarão na lista de mais procurados de vários estados. Mas para eles, fugir ou quase morrer em conflitos com a polícia era uma melhor idéia do que voltar às suas vidas medíocres e monótonas.

Blanche (Estelle Parsons), a cunhada de Clyde, é a única que se recusa a aceitar esse estilo de vida. Para ela, Bonnie e o cunhado estão levando seu marido para o caminho da corrupção. Seus conflitos com Bonnie são inevitáveis e irão contribuir para a dissolução do grupo.

Tamanha tensão, entretanto, não tira o brilho do romance entre os protagonistas. E nem mesmo a falta de beijos ou cenas de sexo o faz. Bonnie e Clyde podem formar um casal condenado, mas ainda assim cúmplice. Corta a coração ouví-la declamar uma balada que escreveu sobre eles dois. Ou antecipar o fim deles.

Beatty e Dunaway são fenomenais nos papéis principais. E certamente, contribuíram bastante para que estes se tornassem icônicos.  Parsons, Michael J. Pollard (C.W.) e Gene Hackman (Buck) juntam-se a eles em um ótimo desempenho também.

Lançado no fim dos anos 60, Uma Rajada de Balas (Bonnie & Clyde, Estados Unidos, 1967) influenciou muitos filmes lançados na esteira de seu sucesso, Um Dia de Cão e Taxi Driver são exemplos. Todos possuíam em comum o forte apelo com o público jovem, uso da violência estilizada e o retrato de personagens marginais. Obviamente essa referência se dilui tornando possíveis filmes como Duro de Matar 4, mas ainda assim Coen, Tarantino, e outros ainda lhe devem.

The world-premiere musical Bonnie & Clyde is now playing at the La Jolla Playhouse’s Mandell Weiss Theatre.

I got a chance to chat with composer Frank Wildhorn about the musical inspiration for the show, which is one of MANY he has in the works right now (Wonderland opens next month at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center and Havana is coming to the Pasadena Playhouse in Spring 2010).

Que soy previsible es algo que atestigua que en la misma semana viera (cortesía de Quiero TV y su chiflada programación) Bonnie & Clyde (1967) y Bride of Chucky (1999). Ya había visto la segunda, cuando lideré una guerrilla para que nuestra película de despedida de la escuela primaria fuera esa (y Scream) en un inolvidable maratón diurno a oscuras. Sin embargo, no todos los días se tienen trece años, ni ese despertar que se diría de momia, puesto que lo mismo me fascinaba, como si se tratara de algo legendario, la inocencia camp de Rachel Weisz que lo vertiginoso de Salma Hayek. El caso es que termino preso de Faye Dunaway y su risotada inconsciente de matona y lo mío termina siendo generacional: imposible olvidar la voluptuosa Jennifer Tilly que dispuesta entraba en escena para dejarme embobado en su tatujae y en su gesto de chica mala y en su látex que a falta de cierta mala uva, lo compensaba viendo a su parejita matar a Marilyn Manson. Jennifer Tilly, Tiffanny, que podía ser la chica del tipo bueno, la de Clyde con su risotada y la novia entrañable de un gótico metalero que vive en carabanas. Es la lujuria, pero la vulgar, la que esconde un sueño de echarse a la carretera y darse una boda. Era tan cercana, prosaica y evidente que, predecible hasta para encumbrar mitomanía terrorífica, cambié a Dunaway por Tilly y me hice adolescente.

Did your hear about actor Randy Quaid’s burglary arrest?! The eccentric-looking guy skipped out on a $10,000 hotel bill that he & his wife had racked up in California.The pretend Bonnie & Clyde got nabbed in West Texas. Damn,Randy Quaid! You should have just paid!

A statement from the California agency said it was told by the Presidio County Sheriff’s Department that Evi Quaid was restrained after a brief struggle.Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez declined to respond to questions from The Associated Press.

There are berets on sale at HM in France for about 5 or 6 euro and they are soo hella cute. I seriously want this red one, but i just can’t bring myself to buy it.  I swear it makes me look like Faye Dunaway in Bonnie & Clyde.

ahhh.  wantttt.  The problem arises in the fact that if I wear it here, I will be a walking and talking stereotypical cliché of France.  And so I musn’t.  But I’ll be wearing one in my dreams tonight

Seriously!  They’re so damn adorable.

I just read the Film Blog on The Guardian which lists their top 5 dresses in film. I started to try and compile my own and realised after about 15 minutes that it was pretty impossible – how to choose from all those outfits? So instead, I have compiled 5 favourite films for frocks. I am sure I could continue all day beyond 5 and even beyond 50 but that’s the kind of activity that can send a person mad.
In no particular order:
Cher’s entire wardrobe in Mermaids. Everything is gorgeous, especially her cream swing coat and the polka dot dresses she has in baby blue and pink, they are magical, they even give Winona Ryder hips when she puts them on.

Faye Dunaway in Bonnie & Cylde. Though she starts off in loose and shapeless skirts and blouses, they look incredible on her. Later on, the suits and trench coats are even more amazing and there has never been an actress since look so wonderful in a beret. Except perhaps Kirsten Cooke as Michelle Dubois in ‘Allo ‘Allo.

Everything the entire cast wears in Cry Baby and perhaps anything anyone has ever worn in a John Waters’ film. But here especially, Traci Lords as Wanda Woodward.

Paula Prentiss as Bobbie Markowe in the 1975 Stepford Wives. Tiny shorts! Dungarees! Bra-less! Cropped shirts! And a perfect foil to the Laura Ashley maxi dresses of ‘The Wives’. (Sorry about the re-cut trailer, but it has Bobbie in more than the original).

And finally, the greatest ever wardrobe in film, Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan. Actually, there are probably far greater wardrobes but none that have had such a staggering effect as this one on mine. I was 5 when this came out, I somehow came to watch it on my own at a young age and remember being so jealous of the oversized circular vanity case she has as a suitcase. I found a rectangular one and tried to make it my school bag until one day it came undone whilst I was crossing the road. Rushing frantically trying to get everything back in the case did seem like a very Susan thing to do. There are too many beautiful things to choose from, but I think my absolute favourite are the boots she trades her jacket for.

I’m already adding to the list, I have left off Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe’s fantastic outfits in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Kelly Lebrock in Weird Science, Tia Carrere in Wayne’s World (yeah, I know) and there must be so many more. I’d like to collate them all and have a frockular filmathon, any suggestions?

Probabil dacă nu îmi va lua ochii următorul „shiny object” care îmi iese în cale, cum li se întâmplă fetelor de obicei, voi încerca să arăt prin indexul blogului câteva dintre lucrurile care ne plac la Statele Unite, pentru că lucrurile negative sunt mereu în centrul bullseyeului mass media şi al opiniei publice, răstălmăcite până la dezintegrarea sensului şi nu cred eu că aş putea fi mai bitchy decât majoritatea aşa că nici nu mă obosesc.

Ceea ce mi se pare specific culturii americane, în pofida tagurilor care o etichetează drept neoriginală, este infatuarea şi fascinaţia populaţiei cu proscrişii, gangsterii şi cei mai notorii outlaws precum şi thrillul pe care îl pot simţii chiar second hand când participă, direct sau indirect la construirea panteonului gangsterilor deşi sunt printre cei mai severi şi stricţi în pedepsele pe care le aplică acestora, pedeapsa cu moartea fiind practicată în majoritatea statelor în afară de vreo 15 printre care New Mexico, North Dakota, Maine, Vermont, West Virginia, New Jersey, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Alaska, Hawaii, Massachussets, Kansas. Ca fenomen de masă trebuie să recunsc că este interesant atât din punct de vedere cultural cât şi sociologic şi psihologic.

Statele Unite se conformează nevoii statelor noi, fără tradiţie, prestatală alta decât cea importată şi cea colonială, de a se detaşa faţă de state asemănătoare, de a se desprinde ca imagine de Marea Britanie şi de a-şi crea o istorie. Statele Unite este sinonim al eclectismului care începe încet încet să danseze pe ritmurile propriei muzici.

Istoriei Statelor Unite îi lipsesc printre altele eroii şi antieroii legendari, antici sau medievali. Ca urmare a luat naştere cultul comic bookurilor ca surogat al mitologiei şi cel  al antieroului apreciat, celebrul „villain” care preia rolul palpabil al personajului istoric negativ ce se opune sistemului pentru a umple golul tradiţiei istorice aborigene care creditează doar triburi amerindiene. În contextul în care secolul XX a fost cel mai prolific pentru emigrare în America, Land of All Opportunities, majoritatea celor care speră să „make it” se înghesuie deziluzionaţi în apartamente din marile oraşe de pe Coasta de Est şi îi idolizează pe cei care au reuşit să se îmbogăţească indiferent de mijloacele prin care au dobândit putere, influenţă şi dolari. Despre Comics probabil o să pun ceva după ce primesc un 411 de la fraţiorul dorkiorul iar despre gangsteri şi alte woodland creatures în cele ce urmează.

Cel mai notoriu gangster din istoria Statelor este hands down Alphonse Gabriel “Al” Capone, născut în 1899 în Brooklyn statul New York cu trabucul între dinţi în loc de biberon şi mitraliera pe post de jucarie de plus, sper. Biznisul său a prins aripi în Chicago în timpul Prohibiţiei, când devine şef al grupării mafiote Chicago Outfit. Am observat că toţi marii gangsteri şi outlaws respectă un pattern printre care notabil e faptul că nici unul dintre ei nu îşi asumă statutul de mafiot, Al Capone figura ca dealer de mobilă şi nu de booze. E arestat şi condamnat pentru „murder, gun running, bootlegging, & tax evasion”. Sentinţa şi-o ispăşeşte la Alcatraz, în San Francisco, California. El devine iconul unei generaţii în pofida faptului că este un criminal.

Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel este gangsterul chitesenţial care acumulează atâta putere încât  şterge linia dintre legal şi ilegal în Nevada şi aduce muritorilor de rând jocurile de noroc, cazinourile şi tot ceea ce înseamnă Vegasul astăzi, decadenţă, opulenţă, bani.

Celebrii Bonnie & Clyde aka Clyde Chestnut Barrow şi Bonnie Elizabeth Parker care sunt cel unul dintre cele mai celebre cupluri din State datorită faptului că spărgeau bănci introduc femeia ca sidekick gangster, umanizând astfel criminalii prin jucarea cărţii iubirii şi sentimentelor ca pe un călcâi al lui Ahile. Aceştia au murit amândoi într-un schimb de focuri cu autorităţile în Bienville Parish din statul Louisiana pe data de 23 August 1934.

Hollywood-ul promovează acest cult prin filme ca Bonnie & Clyde, Natural Born Killers, The Godfather Trilogy, Scarface, Dog Day Afternoon, Reservoir Dogs, American Gangster, Lucky Number Slevin, Blow sau seriale ca The Sporanos şi lista poate continua. Succesul lor este acest nou cod etic bazat pe adevărul vieţii care este MORALLY GREY şi atracţia pentru liberatatea de dincolo de lege, puterea, banii, faima, controlul şi puterea de decizie asupra vieţii oamenilor. Industria care susţine cel mai mult acest cult este cea a hip hopului unde este există chiar un subgen numit gangsta rap promovat de artişti ca N.W. A.

I was inspired to re-watch the 1967 film Bonnie & Clyde last week after reading so much about it in Easy Riders, Raging Bulls. Although it’s an important movie in terms of ushering in the New Hollywood era of filmmaking, the movie itself doesn’t really fascinate me. What does make this movie worth watching, besides Warren Beatty’s hotness of course, is THE FASHION. Specifically Bonnie Parker’s fashion.

Since Dunaway was portraying a real life bank robber from the 1930s, the wardrobe had to reflect that time period accurately. However, many of the outfits in the film could easily be worn today and still look chic. Her scarves, trench coats, and form-fitting pencil skirts are very on trend, and I really wish more women would embrace the beret like she did. I have a beret but always feel too self-conscious to wear one because I feel like it looks too costumey, but maybe this movie will inspire me to finally rock it.

I don’t care what the fashion elite are pushing for the fall, but I will totally be using the Bonnie & Clyde style as my inspiration.

Burrough’s article serves to backdrop a new movie – Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp as the legendary John Dillinger.

Criminals fascinate, and always have. Whether it’s Jack the Ripper and the Krays on this side of the Atlantic, or Jesse James and the Mafia on the other, they generate conflicting emotions in all of us. Yes, we know it’s wrong to rob trains or machine-gun our rivals. Yet down deep, admit it, there’s a part of you that wanted Ronnie Biggs to live the rest of his life on some sunny Brazilian beach.

What drives these feelings, I think, are the petty frustrations we all share with the rules of life, the mortgage that must be paid, the pompous boss who must be flattered, even the long queue at the supermarket (or bus stop with the strikes). Wouldn’t you love to rip up that mortgage bill, deck your boss or jump that line? That’s what criminals do. They break the rules that we cannot, and we live vicariously through them. Best of all, they usually meet justice in the end, confirming our faith in societal rules that we may dislike but know that we need.

Throughout history the glorification of criminals tends to rise during hard times, when living by the rules no longer protects us from losing a job or a home. This breeds resentment, and thus a tendency among some to root for those who flaunt the rules, who fight back. A case in point was America during the Great Depression, when legions of disaffected Americans cheered on an army of outlaws who rampaged through the Midwest, robbing banks and kidnapping millionaires. At the peak of this crime wave during 1933-34 the most visible of these gangs were led by Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker, Pretty Boy Floyd, Baby Face Nelson, Machine Gun Kelly and Ma Barker. All these vaunted criminals rose and fell during the same 18 months.

Dwarfing all of these, however, at least in terms of international notoriety, popularity and headlines, was a flamboyant Indiana-born stickup man named John Dillinger, who is being brought back to life this summer in the movie Public Enemies. The film, which is based on a book that I wrote a few years ago, is no straight-to-DVD indie either. Dillinger is portrayed by Johnny Depp, his nemesis, the FBI agent Melvin Purvis, by Christian Bale. The movie is directed by Michael Mann, the director of such memorable films as Heat and Last of the Mohicans.

La historia de amor y huida fatal con la que Bonnie Parker y Clyde Barrow mantuvieron en vilo a los Estados Unidos de la Gran Depresión ha vuelto a salir a la luz cuando se cumplen 75 años de la emboscada que acabó con sus vidas en 1934.

La Oficina Federal de Investigaciones (FBI, por sus siglas en inglés) celebra los tres cuartos de siglo de uno de sus casos más famosos con la publicación de casi 1000 páginas, hasta ahora inéditas, de material de investigación sobre los famosos fugitivos.

En su accidentada huida a través del centro de Estados Unidos, Bonnie y Clyde pasaron de ser autores de pequeños robos en gasolineras a convertirse en los primeros criminales del siglo XX en alcanzar fama nacional, en una referencia obligada en la era de los gángsteres y en una de las bases del prestigio del FBI.

La huida de la joven pareja, que inició una relación sentimental poco después de conocerse en 1930, terminó en la madrugada del 23 de mayo de 1934, cuando una patrulla de agentes de Tejas les tendió una emboscada en una polvorienta carretera cercana a Sailes (Luisiana).

Las 947 páginas de información relacionada con la pareja que sirvieron al FBI y a la policía como pistas para la espectacular trampa final habían permanecido ocultas hasta 2008, cuando la oficina federal de Dallas (Tejas) anunció su hallazgo.

Año del gángster

Rescatados como parte de una exposición local y publicados ahora por la oficina central en Washington como parte de los eventos relacionados con su llamado “año del gángster”, los documentos incluyen recortes de prensa y fotografías, como la de una multitud contemplando los cristales acribillados del coche de los fugitivos el día que sufrieron la emboscada.

El grueso de la información la componen telegramas enviados al FBI por las patrullas locales que seguían el rastro de la pareja, o de ciudadanos que escribían a las autoridades asegurando haberles visto en una gasolinera o en la esquina de su casa.

De esas notas se deduce, por ejemplo, que Bonnie se hacía llamar Bertha Graham, o que los familiares de Clyde le esperaban en un condado de Tejas para entregarle 250 balas.

El FBI ha sacado también a la luz un sumario producido en 1934 y revisado en 1984, pensado para investigadores y periodistas, que resume en tres páginas el historial criminal de los fugitivos y la persecución policial paso a paso.

Además, el aniversario de esta historia que alimentó la curiosidad de un país asfixiado por la Gran Depresión se cumple en medio de la crisis económica más grave desde la que se vivió entonces.

De la mano de unos medios de comunicación que empezaban a hacer gala del amarillismo, gran parte de la clase media que vivió el comienzo de los años 30 con el agua al cuello proyectó en la pareja una imagen romántica, una suerte de Robin Hood a dúo que se burlaba de un gobierno despreocupado de los problemas de sus ciudadanos.

Esa emocionante historia que hizo dudar a toda una generación sobre la frontera entre lo correcto y lo incorrecto no tardó en convertirse en un guión genial para la gran pantalla, y Hollywood convirtió a los fugitivos en estrellas en varias ocasiones.

La poesía de Bonnie, escritora aficionada, inspiró además al cantautor francés Serge Gainsbourg para uno de sus famosos dúos con Brigitte Bardot en 1967, y la historia se convirtió incluso en un musical japonés en 1999.

El aniversario de la muerte de los amantes también coincide con su retorno a la gran pantalla, y los estudios Cypress Moon ya preparan un nuevo filme basado en el que en 1967 convirtió a Faye Dunaway en Bonnie y a Warren Beatty en Clyde. The Story of Bonnie and Clyde se estrenará en 2010, con la estrella adolescente Hillary Duff y el actor canadiense Kevin Zegers como protagonistas.

Bonnie and Clyde’ (Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow) were American criminals who traveled the southwestern United States during the Great Depression, robbing banks and generally causing chaos with their cohorts. It is estimated that they were responsible for as many as thirteen murders, about a dozen small bank robberies, and holdups of stores and gas stations too numerous to count.

Their exploits, along with those of other criminals such as John Dillinger and Ma Barker, dominated the attentions of the American press and its readership during what is sometimes referred to as the public enemy era between 1931 and 1935, a period which led to the formation of the modern FBI.

Bonnie Parker was born on October 1, 1910 in Rowena, Texas. At only 4 feet 10 inches, Bonnie Parker was a fearless bankrobber. She was fond of creative writing and the arts, and her poem The Story of Bonnie and Clyde is a remarkably personalized account of her escapades. Bonnie was married at sixteen to Ray Thornton, who was in prison on a fifty-five year sentence by their first wedding anniversary. Out of monetary necessity, the young bride took up a waitressing job and rejoined her extended family in Dallas.

Clyde Barrow was born on March 24, 1909, in Telico, Texas (near Dallas) as one of many children in a poor farming family. His life of crime began when he was arrested in 1926 for auto theft. Undeterred, he continued a series of oft-successful Dallas-area robberies over the next four years. After meeting Bonnie in 1930 in the Dallas neighborhood of Oak Cliff, he was arrested and taken to prison. His subsequent escape attempt was only partially successful–he was free for a week before being caught in Ohio–and so Clyde remained incarcerated until 1932.

After his release, he and Bonnie stole a car in Texas. There ensued a police chase, after which Clyde escaped and Bonnie went to prison for a few months. She was released in June of 1932.

The duo became the leaders of a small group of like-minded criminals later known as the Barrow Gang. Clyde’s brother Buck and his wife Blanche are two of its more infamous members. During a police raid near Platte City, Missouri, in 1933, Buck was mortally wounded and his wife captured.

Bonnie and Clyde then killed two young highway patrolmen near Grapevine, Texas on April 1, 1934 and another policeman five days later near Commerce, Oklahoma and were in turn ambushed and gunned down on May 23 later that year near their hide-out in Black Lake, Louisiana by Texas and Louisiana peace officers including Texas Ranger Frank Hamer.

Clyde Barrow is buried in the Western Heights Cemetery and Bonnie Parker in the Crown Hill Memorial Park, both in Dallas, Texas.

They were among the first celebrity criminals of the modern era. Barrow is alleged to have written a letter to the Ford Motor Company praising their “dandy car,” signing it “Clyde Champion Barrow”, though the handwriting has never been authenticated. (Ford received a similar letter around the same time from someone claiming to be John Dillinger and used both for car advertisements.) Bonnie’s aforementioned poem, The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, was published in several newspapers.

In 1967, Arthur Penn directed a rather romanticized film version of the tale. Bonnie and Clyde, which starred Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, was critically acclaimed and contributed significantly to the glamorous image of the criminal pair. The next year Brigitte Bardot interpreted a Serge Gainsbourg’s song about them.
Dorothy Provine also starred in the 1958 movie The Bonnie Parker Story . The first film based on Bonnie and Clyde was made only three years after their deaths and titled You Only Live Once , starring Henry Fonda and Sylvia Sydney .

okay.  so…something terrible has happened.  something of epically catastrophic proportions:  sam brought it to my attention the other day that kylie minogue has sampled one of my favorite-favorite songs ever –  bonnie & clyde, done by brigitte bardot & serge gainsbourg.  shame on you if you don’t know it…do your homework!

i nearly lost it.  tears & hair-pulling & everything else that comes with a nasty hissy fit.  my super-sexy, dirty little secret was now going to be ruined by australia’s pop darling?!  one of the most well-written songs of all time, perhaps?  i didn’t know what any of the words meant until i was able to translate them into english, but it doesn’t matter!  it’s still upsetting!

but…at least it’s not a cover, right?!

last night, i had to see for myself.  so, i did some investigation work & brought up youtube.  i searched for kylie’s new song, sensitized, which contains my sample.  i didn’t see the official video posted yet, but i watched some crappy one where the music had been set to a different video of hers.  i hate it when people do that.  but anyway, i listened to the whole mess…

…and it’s totally not bad!  for real!  and then i saw this amazing marilyn montage & fell in love with it.  watch it right now! theeen, i saw this other one in the related section, and happened upon the promo for sensitized…and it’s.  totally.  fucking.  hot!

Esta é uma história que aconteceu com o amigo de uma prima da menina que sentava ao lado do meu melhor amigo no maternal, logo, isento-me de qualquer responsabilidade com os fatos reais. Para preservar os envolvidos, não colocarei os nomes verdadeiros (embora não tenha certeza de tal) e me colocarei na primeira pessoa, para não ter que ficar me referindo ao personagem principal como o ‘ele’, o rapaz, o moço, o menino, e por aí vai…

A história aconteceu no aniversário da minha ex-namorada (lembrando que só estou na primeira pessoa para preservar a identidade do citado anteriormente), a Tita (mais uma vez, lembro que não é o nome real da menina em questão). Estávamos comemorando na casa de bebidas e alimentos de bar de rua, o In Form All, e o presentes eram as pessoas que mais gostavam dela: Stephanie, Khrigor e eu, o Xareca (e que o dono da história não fique chateado comigo em chamá-lo assim).

Estávamos batendo um papo amigável, todos rindo, o nível da conversa elevadíssimo: falávamos sobre os futuros profissionais, a dialética não-verbal dos relacionamentos, a linguagem secreta do universo e outras coisas das quais não vale lembrar, tendo em vista o futuro que nos reservava.

Como era a minha ex (e mais uma vez friso que não possuo nenhum parentesco com este fato), tínhamos intimidade para falar do que fosse, e como os amigos também me eram comuns, a conversa ia da melhor forma possível até ela receber um telefonema. Era o atual. Como assim? Não tínhamos 3 meses de término e ela já estava namorando outra pessoa?

É engraçado esse tipo de sentimento: se uma pessoa que fez parte da sua vida começa um relacionamento com outra mais bonita, mais rica, mais inteligente ou melhor que você, sentimo-nos mal, péssimos, quando no fundo, deveria ser ao contrário, seria um ‘ah, beleza, pelo menos foi por coisa melhor…’. Mas quando é pelo pior, beira o risível, o ridículo, mas não pra gente, pro outro. Uma pessoa te largar e começar a sair com um pulha, um bosta (desculpem-me ‘os bostas’ ao compará-los com ele), menos que um merda; um prego. Lógico que você se sente menos, mas por pouco tempo, é questão de você se levantar, voltar a respirar, perder a vontade de enfiar uma adaga no meio dos olhos e começar a rir. Cair na gargalhada. Morrer, mas de dar risadas tão grandes que a vassoura do vizinho não para cutucar a tua parede. Quando, aí sim, você recupera a noção, após das crises, pensa que o melhor mesmo é tocar a sua vida, afinal, você poderia esperar qualquer coisa daquela pessoa, menos isso. É rebaixar muito o que você sentia por ela e vice-versa. E, de certa forma, sente um certo orgulho, afinal, se me trocou por menos que o pelo que cai de um gato, é porquê não me merece.

A verdade é que realmente estava namorando e que ele estava chegando. E após demorar, e muito (provavelmente estava dando várias retocadas de nariz), chegou.

E não chegou só. Como se diz no popular, que desgraça nunca vem sozinha, apareceu a quadrilha (segundo o art. 288 do Código Penal, é “associarem-se mais de três pessoas…”) toda: o Créu (o nome do rapaz, o que estava dando uns ‘créus’ na minha ex), o ‘Conde’, o Escada-rolantezinha e a sua esposa, Maria-marola – eram uma espécie de Bonnie e Clyde pré-apocalipse.

O Freak Circus Show estava armado! Entreolhávamos, como fugiríamos dali? Porém, pensamos na política do ‘Pão e Circo’ (este último já estava presente – na verdade, só faltou o anão malabarista e a mulher barbada). Quando o Créu chegou, veio em minha direção, esticou uma mão mole para mim, apertei-a. Ele não olhou nos meus olhos. O ‘estranho’ ali não era eu. Não sei se uma pessoa da estirpe dele possui a consciência do que é ser um famoso, na boca do povo, fura-olho, mas receio que ele não estava se sentindo assim. Uma semana após o término em questão, estava consolando a Tita, duas semanas depois, continuara ‘consolando’. Claro que não o fez só. Quando um não quer, dois não se atracam. Não eximo ninguém de culpa nenhuma. Porém, não me senti traído; decepcionado, desolado, desapontado, desencantado, desiludido e frustrado seriam os termos mais justos.

Chico Buarque de Hollanda, em uma entrevista de um disco do primeiro Box dos DVDs sobre sua obra, o que fala sobre as Mulheres (com letra maiúscula, sim – é sobre Mulheres, o ser, e não sobre as mulheres em geral, e, de certa forma, todas deveriam ser com M em caixa alta), diz, não com essas exatas palavras, algo em que a idéia central é: se um amigo seu, faz certo tipo de coisa contigo, você fica puto, revoltado, para até de falar com o cara, mas se é uma mulher… Tudo bem, você releva… Existe algo na essência feminina, que só pelo fato dela ser mulher, faz aquilo e você acaba perdoando, não fez por mal, é da natureza dela…

Dito isso, fica aqui, bem claro, que não possuo mágoas por essa situação, não é à toa que a estou contando, e dando boas risadas ao lembrar-me dela (falo como se fosse o autor da história, se ele sentisse mágoas, com certeza não me contaria rindo e sorrindo). Prostrado fiquei, claro, mas no fundo, foi bom. Deixando detalhes pessoais de lado, voltemos ao ocorrido.

Após falar comigo dirigiu-se ao banheiro, onde estava a Tita e na porta ficou, esperando-a sair, parecia um elefante de chácara (sabe aqueles leões que ficam nas portas de construções antigas para assustar? então…). E lá estava o paquiderme, com os olhos esbugalhados, dentes trincados, suando. A moça saiu do banheiro, ele puxou-a para beijá-la… Voltemos uma hora e meia antes dele ares gracejar:

- Ele tá vindo, mas eu não o chamei, eu chamei foi você e eu quero você aqui! Você vai se sentir mal com a presença dele aqui?

- Não, mas não quero ver nada que eu não queira ver.

- Tudo bem, mas se você for se sentir mal, me avisa.

- Não, o cara é teu namorado (várias risadas) e vem pra te prestigiar (risadas consecutivas, havia sido a melhor piada da noite).

- Então, tá. Mas se você não se sentir bem, me fala.

- Ok. Mas pode ficar tranquila, você já sabe da minha posição.

Ao ser puxada e quase ter o braço deslocado, desviou-se, era a cruz fugindo de quem deveria. E foram conversar lá fora.

O que aconteceu nesse período, não sei. Também não interessa. As outras figuras sentadas. Mal haviam chegado e um início de confusão se iniciou:

- Por quê não posso sentar aqui?

- Desculpe senhor, não permitimos que os clientes sentem na mesa, muito menos nas que não são as suas.

- Ele que saia daí, ué. Eu, hein?! Aí, ‘bora sair daqui! Vâmu lá pá Bocal (um lugar no mesmo bairro que se encontra um outro estabelecimento) tomá aquele chopão de litrão grandão, lá. Um chopãozão assim, ó, grandão, que aqui é muito afrescalhado.

Intervi-o, não queria sair dali, muito menos com aquelas pessoas, elas que se quisessem, que fossem embora. E deixassem a aniversariante, para o bem dela, sob nossa responsabilidade:

- Cara! Vai lá, na boa, tem erro não… Se eu for embora agora, eu vou é pra casa, trabalho cedo amanhã, vai lá.. Tá ‘de boa’ total.

Como podem prever o óbvio, eles não foram, se aquietaram e lá ficaram. De algo não posso reclamar: foi a experiência socio-psico-antropológica mais bizarra da existência do planeta na história do universo. Não foi a única, mas no final, explicito a mais importante.

Tirando guerra de alimentos e alguém colocar o membro sexual pra fora, rolou de tudo. A filosofia era presente no final de cada frase, uma das mais ouvidas, e, por ventura, mais engraçada foi: não, irmão, bom é Deus.

Confesso que fiquei com medo.

Voltaram a bonitinha e o bonitão. Sentaram a mesa. Não conseguia olhar pr’aquilo. Como uma menina tão bonita, inteligente, que durante um ano e onze meses teve d’o bom’ e d’o melhor’ estava fazendo aquilo? E a mais afetada era a própria!

Essa vai pra lista d’As Grandes Dúvidas da Humanidade’.

Não conseguia encará-los. Talvez o principal motivo seja mais simples do que parece: eu era o outro!

Estranhamente eu era ‘o outro’.

Funcionava assim: quando era por obrigação, ficava com o cara, quando era por prazer, por vontade, tesão e desejo, me ligava.

Ele não sabia da minha presença, achava-se bom o suficiente pra acreditar que iria destruir uma química de quase dois anos. Fui usado, claro, mas talvez, só por ter o prazer de aumentar o peso da testa dele, não ficava chateado quando me procuravam para a próxima.

Então eu ficava ali, olhando o fura-olho (afinal, havia sido apresentado, não era íntimo, mas me conhecia, existe uma ética entre homens, ah… desculpem, me esqueço que não estou falando de um), e não conseguia sentir consciência pesada por ter colocado chifre em cabeça de elefante.

Uma das últimas pérolas da noite, que eu me lembre, foi o Escada-rolantezinha batendo no bucho e falando ‘isso aqui quando sair, eu não quero nem tá por perto!’ e a conta chegou. Achei que quem ia pagar a minha era o atual da ex. Mandei várias ‘tweetadas’ via internet móvel local. Mas soube depois que não, fora a Stephanie que pagou.

Ao pensarmos em ir embora, surgiu a opção de ir ao Botaco Teco tomar a saideira, mas o circo acompanharia-nos. Deixamos de lado. A surpresa foi quando a Tita disse:

- Não! Eu vou com os repassadores de objetos do mercado negro!

Nem Khrigor, nem Stephanie, nem Xareca entederam isso. A revolta se estableceu sobre a mesa:

- Olha, se você quer ir com este distinto cavalheiro, não há problemas, mas também não estaremos aqui quando precisar – Todos revoltados, fomos para vê-la, chegamos no horário, aturamos as companhias agradabilíssimas(!) e fomos despejados, como trastes, absorventes usados? Não, não gostamos nem um pouco disso. Isso ofendeu-nos. Magoou de verdade. É bem provável dos outros dois irem contra a corrente, e eu ficar sendo a corda e caçamba sozinho, mas é verdade. Eles vão negar, mas é verdade.

E, diferente não poderia ter sido, o ‘distinto cavalheiro’ em questão, não entendeu quando, respeitosamente, o chamamos assim. Pra quê? Como um reles irracional de qualquer espécie, achou um motivo para exercitar a sua masculinidade aFLORada:

- Aqui ó, quem esse cara pensa que é pra falar de eu assim? ‘Craro’ que ele tá me zuando, ele tá pensando o que? Meu vô é foda! E nunca vou ser preso porquê meu vô me tira de tudo que é furada que eu me meto! Eu vou enfiar uma porrada na cara dele e quero ver se o vô dele é tão foda quanto o meu pra eu ter doze passagens pela polícia, ser fichado todas as vezes e sempre parecer que sou réu primário? Meu nome é Créu! O nariz e o cu são meus! Eu dou e cheiro o que eu quiser e pra quem eu quiser!

E, após sofrer ameaças verbais que logo partiriam pra física, foram embora, levando Tita com eles.

Fomos tomar a saideira. No meio da conversa entre os que restaram (afinal, foi o que fomos naquele dia, RESTOS), de um todo aconteceu: o marido da Stephanie estava de despentelhando porquê ela não chegava em casa, a Tita, que mais tarde apenas fui saber e, claro, perdoei-a, estava terminando com o paquiderme, Krighor falava-me coisas das quais não sabiam e não cabem comentar aqui (em respeito aos verdadeiros personagens da história), e, ao longo da noite, as coisas foram se estabelecendo e tudo foi ficando tranquilo, na mais perfeita paz. Menos pra Stephaniee, que dormiu com a Pretinha, sua cachorra, mas isso também é outra história.

Após ouvir esta história perguntei ao Xareca se ele não sentia ciúme de tudo isso, ou sei lá, remorso, raiva, enfim, muito passivo e pacífico em relação à isso tudo e ele me respondeu o seguinte:

- Ciúmes sim, claro, mas a situação esdrúxula ensinou-me a vencê-lo. Provavelmente se tivesse deixado me dominar (como volta e meia acontece), as coisas não teriam tomado o rumo necessário. E raiva ou qualquer outro sentimento também não teria como tomar conta. É como a música do Chico, uma frase que também não é dele, mas é a verdade: só suportei porquê era ela, porquê era eu.

Ich gehe ja liebend gern ins Theater. Meist ist es die Sehnsucht, die mich treibt. Abtauchen, eintauchen, in eine andere Welt. Das ist ja auch einer der Gründe, warum ich selbst gerne auf den “Brettern die die Welt bedeuten” stehe. Mir bedeuten sie die Welt. Mal jemand anderes sein, jemand anderes sein. Einfach abschalten, alle Probleme vergessen. Flüchten.

Auf der Flucht war ich gestern wieder. Mit Bonnie & Clyde. Das wohl berühmteste Pärchen aller Zeiten. Nicht mal Angelina und Brad können da mithalten. Bonnie & Clyde, das ist jedem geläufig. Ein Begriff. Eine Legende. Und ihre Geschichte wird derzeit vom Bielefelder Alarm-Theater auf eine sehr originelle und beeindruckende Weise gespielt. Schnell ist es. Rasant. Ständig wechselnde Rollen und Schauplätze. Genau so wie das Leben von Bonnie Parker und Clyde Barrow, die zur Zeit der Weltwirtschaftskrise in den USA ziehen, rauben und morden. Und sich lieben. Ein Leben zwischen Leid und Leidenschaft. Und ich frage mich: kam wohl irgendwann der Punkt, an dem sie sich selbst für unsterblich hielten? Fragen kann man sie nicht mehr, denn natürlich waren sie nicht unsterblich. In einen Hinterhalt gelockt wurden sie von Polizeikugeln durchsiebt. Insgesamt 37 Stück fand man bei der Obduktion in ihren Körpern.

Bonnie & Clyde im Alarm-Theater. Drei Schauspieler, ein Fluchtauto und die Bielefelder Band Dandelion, die ich so nie hören würde (weil ich nur in Ausnahmefällen singende Frauen mag), aber deren Musik und Stimme perfekt zum Theaterstück passte.

Eine perfekte Inszenierung. Bühnenbild, Kostümierung, Darsteller…alles gemeinsam ließ das Publikum in eine besondere Stimmung kommen. Das Gefühl, auch mal so sein zu wollen. Nicht unbedingt gleich mordend und raubend durchs Land zu ziehen, aber einfach mal ausbrechen, leben. Im Gedächtnis anderer Menschen bleiben. Und nie aufgeben, immer weiter machen.
Mit dem Hintergrund des Amoklaufs in dieser Woche blieb einem der ein oder andere Lacher im Halse stecken. 15 minutes of fame. War es das, was Bonnie & Clyde reizte? Ist es das, was Amokläufer reizt? Der Gedanke, eine Legende zu werden. Endlich Beachtung zu finden.

Bonnie & Clyde sind seit über 70 Jahren tot, aber ihre Geschichte lebt weiter. Sie wird verklärt und romantisiert. Man schaut ein wenig großzügig über Mord und Raubzüge hinweg und blickt nur auf die große Liebesgeschichte. Das Theaterstück zeigt aber auch die Schattenseiten. Alles ist außer Kontrolle geraten.

Ein kleiner Teil von mir möchte so sein wie Bonnie & Clyde.
Ein noch viel größerer Teil möchte allerdings einfach nur das Kleid der Hauptdarstellerin besitzen.

Sinopse: Durante a Grande Depressão, Bonnie Parker (Faye Dunaway) conhece Clyde Barrow (Warren Beatty), um ex-presidiário que foi solto por bom comportamento, quando este tenta roubar o carro de sua mãe. Uma noite, são cercados por vários policiais e, obrigados a matar para fugir, são perseguidos em vários estados.

Comentário: um filme que junta a linda e talentosa Faye Dunaway e o glorioso Gene Hackman só podia dar coisa boa. Ah, claro, tem o Warren Beatty também…

MÚSICA: LEGIÃO URBANA – AINDA É CEDO

After getting about 3 feet of snow last week, I wasn’t even sure I’d get off the mountain. It’s been a crazy Fall and Spring so far and this weekend was no different. I dug the Karmann Ghia out of a big berm, loaded up Wednesday night and left first thing Thursday morning for the Old Pueblo.

My backup Spider, RaceFace Cranks, new NoTubes race wheels and Rocky Mount trays got here just in time to throw it all on and in the car and get out of the snow. I got on I-10 around 6am, with the intention of buying a bungee chord at my first gas station to keep the wheels on the rack from spinning and cooking the hubs. I didn’t realize that the spinning wouldn’t only be bad for the hub, but it would make the wheel shimmy and walk out of the wheelholder going 65mph down the interstate!! I had only been on the 10 for about 5 minutes before I found myself doing loops around Palm Desert searching for my ultralight race wheel (now known as my fastest and sturdiest wheel ever.) I didn’t find it, and decided to just head out and ask my friend to go by my house and pick up one of my older wheels for me.

The Ghia did awesome, all loaded up (awesome for a 50 horsepower billboard, that is) and I got to the venue early in the afternoon Thursday. I met up my friend Jason, who was letting me borrow an ezup, and got my pit figured out. Then I got ahold of Brad Majors and Sean Palmer from Chicago who had flown in to race and pit. Brad normally races, but was here to help out this time and it was Sean’s first 24 ever. We had a great dinner at a pasta/pizza place on Oracle Rd. where Brad and I tried not to overwhelm Sean with too much info on what to do and not to do – it’s hard to hold back with all the excitement! I also got the amazing news that a friend of a friend had found my wheel on the interstate!!! What are the chances (Facebook status updates + wonderful friends + Karma = WHOAH!) Great dinner company and a great evening.

I then went on to the lovely casa de mis amigos – Matt and Katie, in Tucson for a great night’s sleep. Friday, I headed over to Arizona Cyclist to use their space and build my backup bike – why not build it the day before a race – it’s a backup!! I rocked out most of the day and got it built. This was the mixed wheel Spider and Intense and RaceFace and NoTubes got me styled out for it! It came together nicely and the only crazy part was robbing a hydraulic line off a brake in the shop – thanks to Nate at AC for the help with that! This was the first time I’d actually had to completely build my own bike and I was pretty darn proud.

After a few grocery and last minute errands, I then went back to la casa de Matt and Katie for a great kale taco dinner and wonderful company. I got the ghia all loaded up again and went to bed early – I’d made it through Friday the 13th, with no incident.

I left Tucson around 7am Saturday for the venue. It takes about an hour to get there and I went to work putting the pit together for the crew. My mechanic, Steve, and his daughter, Miranda, arrived from Phoenix and we met up with Todd, Bonnie, Finneas, Brad and Sean and got everything pretty settled and ready for this pending cold/windy night.

I started towards the front of the pack for the run. For some reason, this was a more agressive run than in years past, for me. There seemed to be elbows everywhere and I even got tripped. Some guy stepped on my heels and I was worried that I was about to get trampled – fortunately, it’s a good crowd and as fast as I was on the ground, I had been scooped back up and was off and running again. Once we got on the bikes, I got to pass back up a lot of the people who were better runners – biking is definitely more my strong point than running, to say the least.

For the first couple laps I was in the lead. I didn’t know it and didn’t exactly feel like I was. But, on lap 3, Sarah K. caught me towards the end. She was on fire and started gaining some time on me over the next few laps. As night started to fall, I put my new AyUp bar mount light on, but didn’t want to put on a helmet light quite yet – big mistake. I realized after the first full night lap that it was hindering me greatly in the twisty stuff and my eyes were straining. I added my helmet light at the next lap, but it was a little late; as it started getting cold, my vision started getting worse. I could feel my eyes straining and around 3am, I couldn’t see any detail, more than two feet past my face – just a white cloud. I had to stop at an aid station and make the call to take a break for a bit. Race staff picked me up in a truck and took me to the medical tent, where they flushed my eyes and advised me to go to the hospital. Fortunately, I’d heard of this happening to riders before and even talked to another rider/sponsor who said that he had to just sit out for a few hours and his eyes went back to normal. I could see halos around all the lights in camp and couldn’t see the road to walk back to my pit! I guess, it was a good call to take a break.

When I stopped, I was an hour and twenty minutes up on 3rd, but I had no choice. It was only getting worse. I took a break for about 3 hours and kept opening my eyes, waiting for it to get better. As the sun started coming up, I felt that I could see well enough, to go back out. I think it also helped that my eyes had warmed up. They weren’t back to normal, but were close enough and I’d missed enough time, that I had to go back in.

I was determined to chase Terri all morning, no matter what the result. She was going to have to work to keep this lead. She’d made up the time I had on her and had also gained a lap on me, when I was out. I ran into her after my first lap back in and told her that it was time to rock. She knew what I was up to and totally had her game on to keep it from happening. It was a fun morning chase and she had to go back out for a 13th lap, or I would have. I came in from my 12th lap with 12 minutes to spare, but there was no way I was going to pass her – she went out over an hour before. Her last two laps were her fastest since way early in the race – she knew I was chasing! Great morning game Terri!

I kept 3rd, by several laps, but ended up one lap back from Terri. My crew was amazing and Sean (the friend who did his first 24) ended up getting in 8 laps and my old teammate/racing brother Todd ended up 5th in the men’s field against some stellar competition. Wonderful job everyone.

After the event, I headed to Tucson for some Thai food and beer with friends and an early night. I drove back through torrential rains last night and am now back in the snow. What a change from the weekend to now. Thanks everyone for all the good wishes and good gear from sponsors – it truly paid off in many ways.
