Now that two episodes have hit the air I’m wondering what people are thinking about Cashmere Mafia. Folks at the office seem to be enjoying it, but we’re all desperate for new TV.

Caitlin is definitely my favorite character. Bonnie Sommerville has the most believable expressions. It looks like next week’s episode will have the character facing some drama when she gets outed in someone’s well-known blog. We bloggers… we’re evil, don’t you know?

I found Zoe’s battle with the stay at home mom to be a bit cliched, but I did want to smack Zoe’s husband for willingly putting himself in a situation where we all know he’s going to be tempted. Zoe renting that doubledecker bus at the end was genius, though. And where have I seen the woman playing the stay at home mom? She’s very familiar…

I’m still waiting for Lucy Liu to really catch fire on the show. I see moments but the character just doesn’t seem strong enough for Liu’s talents, yet. I was glad to see her giving her assistant a shot at moving up the corporate ladder. And how great was it that the woman had a normal figure??

So the show hasn’t exactly approached greatness, yet, but at least it gives us something to watch. Thoughts?

Meanwhile I’m catching up on the final Grey’s Anatomy and CSI of the season. I’ll report on them later. I did catch Numbers and Stargate: Atlantis as well.

So what do you think is worth watching as all our favorite shows go into writers’ strike limbo? I need suggestions, people! I’m starving for something good to watch!

How did everyone out there like Cashmere Mafia? Personally, I was a fan. Cheating husbands, women who seem to have it all battling against gender norms (haha big words for these woman have high powered careers and the men have trouble adjusting to it), and some genuinely funny laughs. Recap after the jump.

So we have four women, Mia (Lucy Liu), Zoe (Frances O’Connor), Juliet (Miranda Otto), and Caitlin (Bonnie Sommerville, who some will remember as Mona from Friends and others will remember as The-Ho-bag-Who-Tried-To-Break-Up-Sandy-And-Kirsten on The OC), who met in business school and have been friends ever since. Zoe and Juliet are married with kids, Zoe has 2, Juliet has 1 (or 2 if you include her dirt bag husband). Mia works with her boyfriend/fiancee at a publishing house. Bonnie is in advertising or brand management or something in fashion. They meet for lunch and drinks etc, and basically form a powerhouse quartet in upper class NYC.

The name Cashmere Mafia comes from the ‘ho sleeping with one of their husbands. She finds out that the ladies have stolen her table at her fav restaurant (revenge for sleeping with the husband) and comes to “chat.” She refers to them as the cashmere mafia, and that she knows a bunch of stuff about them. Juliet snaps back that they know a lot on her too and she should be careful! haha take that biatch! Now, onto the ladies of the Cashmere Mafia.

Zoe works in a male dominated job (Stocks? Venture capitalism? Commercial Real Estate? no idea) and her husband is staying home somewhat these days. Their nanny just got poached by the neighbors (for six figures, 2 weeks paid vaca, days off, car, cell phone, and wardrobe expenses, WOW, BEST JOB EVER) and her husband is being considered for a new job where he would travel a lot (not sure that Zoe likes that), so they need a new nanny STAT. They hire some floozy who sucks, has a HUGE altercation involving screaming kids, a smoke alarm, cigarettes and her up and quitting and dumping the kids at Zoe’s office. Pretty funny, the nanny is a brat. Zoe’s assistant or junior might be after her job, im sure that will develop later, with something along the lines of Zoe cant handle her job and being a mom. Zoe is the one who sees Juliet’s husband with another woman, but more on that later. In one of the funniest scenes in the pilot, Zoe leaves a banquet honoring Juliete to go to her daughter’s dance recital. the mean teacher/mom at the door doesnt want to let Zoe in late, so Zoe goes around to the stage door (all of this with the famous Swan Lake music in the background), peeps out of the sidestage, then crawls her way to her seat, knocking over set pieces as she goes. hahah! When she sits, she finds out her husband got the job, and obviously has no idea what she is going to do.

Juliet is married to this douche-bag named Davis. Obviously I hate him. They have been married for like 15 years so she seems to be the authority on marriage among her friends. Yet, we find out, when Zoe sees Davis emerge from a hotel with a rival femme, that Juliet knows he has been cheating on her. She just thought it was a business trip/out of town thing. She has a nice little dialogue on men dealing with “women like them” who make more money, have more power in the workplace etc, and who are only their idea of a traditional wife in that they wear their rings and take their names. Interesting. Now, though, she’s pissed that he “shit where they eat” (as my mom would say), cheating with a woman all of their friends know in the city where they live. At her benefit, she quietly informs him that, as he looks around at the people there, she is going to choose one of the men there, have a raging hot affair, he will know about it, she will end it, and they will go back to having a clean slate. NICE!

Mia, as previously mentioned, works with her fiancee, Tom Everett Scott (hottie!) or Richard, in publishing. He pops the question at the beginning of the episode, and their boss quickly rains on their parade when he tells them that he is pitting them against each other for Publisher. Winner of said job will accrue the most advertising by Friday (3 days or so) and loser will lose his or her job. Ouch. They start out both being good about one of them losing their job, even though they both play dirty when it comes to getting ads. Mia eventually wins, and Richard loses his job. He plays nice at first, bringing her a bottle of champagne, but in about 2 minutes loses the charade and breaks off the engagement. Cant handle his fiancee beating him. He honestly figured he would win and she (who is extremely driven in her career) would just be upset and then throw herself into finding them an apartment and planning the wedding. Uh, delusional much? Whatev, she got the job!

Finally, we get to Caitlin. Shes kind of a party girl, dumps/gets dumped by a guy in the opening scenes, last of the single girlfriends. Never had much luck with guys, and we find out what might be the reason for that: she has to interview someone for a job at her company and she is attracted to the candidate – a girl. WHOA! Didn’t see that coming! Talks to her extremely modern brother the Catholic priest, who tells her to basically take the girl for a test drive! She and the girl go to drinks, with all these awkward conversations points where each is trying to find out whether the other is interested 1) in them, and 2) in girls in general. They end up making out a little outside the bar before Girl has to go, and Cait freaks out after a little. She means to tell her friends, but gets interrupted by Mia’s broken engagement story. Never tells the girls! Ut oh!

Interesting show so far, let me know if you like!

Fusion – China In Your Hand

:: laut

Bonny Sommerville – Winding Road

Ne. Kein Beatles-Cover. Ein Song vom Garden State Soundtrack. Und ihr wisst schon. Garden State. Großartig. Wie dieses Lied eben auch.
