An Australian TV show recently sat down with the cast of Harry Potter to talk about what it was like growing up on set and what is in store for the seventh and eighth films. It was strange to hear the cast talk about how after Christmas the movies will be in the home stretch of completion. It will be a sad day when the final movie debuts in July of 2011.

Darsteller: Michael Gambon, Robbie Coltrane, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Jim Broadbent, David Thewlis, Warwick Davis, Richard Griffiths, Timothy Spall, Fiona Shaw, David Bradley, Julie Walters, Gemma Jones, Daniel Radcliffe, Mark Williams, Helen McCrory, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, Rupert Grint, Devon Murray, James Phelps, Alfie Enoch, Jamie Waylett, Oliver Phelps, Matthew Lewis, Josh Herdman, Bonnie Wright, Dave Legeno, William Melling, Ralph Ineson, Natalia Tena, Katie Leung, Shefali Chowdhury, Afshan Azad, Jessie Cave, Evanna Lynch, Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, Tony Coburn, Suzanne Toase, Amelda Brown, Nina Voelker, Robert Knox, Georgina Leonidas, Anna Shaffer, Tom Moorcroft, Johnpaul Castrianni, Rod Hunt, Freddie Stroma, Scarlett Byrne, Louis Cordice, Isabella Laughland, Teresa Mahoney, Frank Dillane, River George, Charlie Bennison, Dean Garnham.

Serien-Special
Sein Name ist Bauer, Jack Bauer. Die Zeit, die ihm bleibt:
Vierundzwanzig Stunden.

The Twilight trio were in London today promoting New Moon with a fan event at Battersea Evolution. Rob’s co-star from his Harry Potter days Bonnie Wright also came out for the festivities, along with many other British stars.

My only question is who dressed the girls for this event. Dear Lord, there’s a red carpet and all, and yet they look like they dressed in the dark.

So totes felt like blogging today. Don’t feel like proofreading though and don’t expect

So totes felt like blogging today. Don’t feel like proofreading though and don’t expect everything to be correct. Work today was kind of really slow so managed to immerse into online adventures including surfing IMDB and the surrounding gossip-y sites to get the latest hot link-age.

Then I happened to find this kid Jamie Bower and hey he’s seriously some serious hot British-ness and he plays big badass vamp in Twilight and Grindewald in Harry Potter so he double scores riiiiight there. Of course according to his IMDB page he’s trying to star in other stuff (blah blah blah) and take pics sans vamp make up and there are also rumors he’s dating Ginny Weasley (ah! no her actress? who is that?). But neverminds – the kid is to watch out for defso.

Interestingly enough, last night I went to a presentation on the Murderers, Gangsters and Weirdos On the Lower East Side book – very good topic and highly recommend learning more, maybe even getting the book on Amazon or library if they even have it (have not checked! but it’s new so most likely not). The history of gangs in that particular area is absolutely fascinating and the author Eric Ferrara made an impressive presentation. He seems to be an amazing speaker and barely took breaks, I was impressed haven’t had fun at a book presentation since Nick Hornby, but that one was so crowded I could barely breathe fresh air, so this one definitely tops it. Check out the book description here – also a pretty reasonable price. Bluestockings bookstore was hosting – and how else could it be – they are the resident independent bookstore on the Lower East Side. Usually don’t like it when they attack you with activist pamphlets and events of the sort but they really have great picks in independent books which you’d have to unravel in a mainstream bookstore, aka Barnes and Noble. Highly recommend for everyone to also visit Eric’s project – the LES History Center (former East Village Visitor’s Center) – they know the most particular info and have fantabulous EV tours.
Post hearing this amazing presentation I browsed though the Women Studies Section in Bluestockings and I was amazed on how many books women can produce on feminism. Usually think most feminist readings are distasteful and I get truly bored and annoyed with them, but some of this stuff sounded intriguing. I guess Bluestockings’ fabled activism is for reals – check out their selection and the funny shirts they have for sale. It will definitely make a great holiday gift unmatchable to any mainstream gifts your friends are able to get their hands on.

I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.

Runtime: 2 hrs 33 mins

Genre: Science-Fiction/Fantasy

Theatrical Release:Jul 15, 2009 Wide

Box Office: $299,967,829

Synopsis: Though HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN director Alfonso Cuaron still holds the crown for best

film in the series, David Yates is making an attempt at a coup with HARRY POTTER AND THE… Though HARRY POTTER

AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN director Alfonso Cuaron still holds the crown for best film in the series, David Yates is

making an attempt at a coup with HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE. Dark, gleefully funny, and beautifully

shot, this adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novel should please fans despite numerous changes to the 650-page source material. In

this sixth film in the series, Harry’s (Daniel Radcliffe) inevitable confrontation with the dark wizard Voldemort grows closer, and

Hogwarts headmaster Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) wants the young student to be prepared. He guides Harry through a

memory of a young Voldemort, but an important moment is missing. Harry must extract this memory from the new Hogwarts

teacher, Horace Slughorn (a perfectly slimy Jim Broadbent), who is as eager for fame as he is reluctant to revisit this painful

moment. Meanwhile, romance rules the school of witches and wizards, with Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint)

refusing to admit their feelings for each other. Harry also harbors a secret love of his own: Ron’s younger sister, Ginny (Bonnie

Wright). But despite his crush, Harry keeps an eye on Snape (Alan Rickman) and Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), who may be

responsible for attacks on the school. HALF-BLOOD PRINCE deftly balances the humor of Hogwarts heartbreak and the thrills

of dark villains attacking the school. The cast is as talented as ever, and the youngest members–Radcliffe, Grint, and

Watson–have developed their talent well. However, this film is most remarkable for its fine cinematography from AMELIE

director of photography Bruno Delbonnel. Using a muted palette, Delbonnel makes Hogwarts look hauntingly beautiful in a way

that fans have never seen. There’s always plenty of fun and adventure in the series, but this entry boasts impressive visuals as

well.

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, Michael Gambon, Jim Broadbent, Helena Bonham-Carter,

David Bradley, Bonnie Wright, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Helen McCrory, Hero Fiennes

*** THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS ***

After an eight month delay, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has made its way into theaters. But will it stand up to the hype? Will it satisfy those who have not read the novel and those who have?

The film’s premise is quite simple: Dumbledore and Harry delve into Voldemort’s past to find out more about him and his weaknesses through memories Dumbledore has collected. Romance plays large part in the film as some of the students of Hogwarts are now older and are starting to feel things that come with adolescence.

The film is quite balanced in the romance and darkness department. There are some instances where the romance is laid on really thick between Ron Weasley and Lavender Brown, and Harry and Ginny Weasley, but the redeeming factor is that those scenes are hilarious to watch not only because they are funny, but because they are quite cheesy. Of course there is an instance or two where the romance is not at all realistic but it is entertaining.

The dark aspects of the film are worth waiting for, especially when Draco Malfoy enters the picture. Tom Felton has convinced me that he is a far better actor than Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson, all of whom are not at their strongest in the film. Felton takes the character of Malfoy and finally morphs him into a character that is not as bland as he was in the previous films. Felton makes him menacing as well as fearful about what task he has to perform for He Who Must Not Be Named. His scenes are well written and directed.

The things to pay attention to most in the film are the memories Dumbledore and Harry examine. Though the memories are brief, they do contain important information on how to defeat the Dark Lord. We find out through the memories that Voldemort dabbled in very dark magic while attending Hogwarts.

Jim Broadbent was cast for the role of Horace Slughorn and his performance is marvelous. Slughorn’s role in the film is to give Harry the full memory he altered and gave to Dumbledore, a memory he modified to hide his shame, as one can deduce. Slughorn loves popular wizards and loves to “collect” them, meaning he likes to have them in his company, along with their pictures on a shelf. Slughorn provides a lot of comedy in the film and Broadbent’s delivery is excellent.

Michael Gambon really shines in his role as the headmaster Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. From the beginning of the film, we learn that Dumbledore really cares for Harry and Gambon makes that apparent in his scenes with Radcliffe. Gambon finally brings the character of Dumbledore to life, more so than the late Richard Harris I would say. The Dumbledore in this film is more cheerful than in previous installments and more frightful as well. There is one scene in particular where I think Gambon shows us that he is Oscar-worthy. Will the Academy honor his performance? I doubt it.

Alan Rickman’s portrayal of Severus Snape has never been better. In the film, Snape’s loyalties are in question. Whose side is he on? Is he on Dumbledore’s side or Lord Voldemort’s? Rickman is able to show us that he is capable of being on either side. For instance, there’s a scene where an Unbreakable Vow is being administered on him and Draco Malfoy’s mother, Narcissa. Rickman’s facial expressions in that scene convey that Snape is scared and worried that he may fail. In another scene we see Snape informing Dumbledore that he is growing tired of doing what he has been asked to do and Rickman delivers those lines with such conviction that you believe he is sick of doing Dumbledore’s bidding, if we go by the events that took place in Order of the Phoenix.

The Half-Blood Prince is extremely well-made. The cinematography is excellent; the colors used give the film as sense of gloomy darkness, something we have not seen since Prisoner of Azkaban. It reminds me of Zodiac and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Nicolas Hooper’s score is outstanding. He is perhaps the best composer so far in the series that is able to create dark ambient and frightening music. Hooper also utilized two themes created by John Williams: the theme from the Quidditch match in Prisoner of Azkaban and Hedwig’s Theme, both of which are altered slightly and expanded on. The inclusion of those tracks has angered some people, but I think it is quite delightful. The music played during the scenes featuring Malfoy and Dumbledore stand out the most. They are beautiful pieces. Rumors are floating about that Hooper will not return for the last two films which I think is a grave mistake.

UPDATE: Hooper will not return for the final two installments in the series.

Yates’s direction in the film is superior to what he did in Order of the Phoenix. It seems that he is growing and improving his style. Not only is he able to extract and direct great performances from many cast members, he is showing us that he has an artistic side as well. There are many instances of great camerawork, most notably during a speed-induced fly-in through the streets of London and Diagon Alley.

Overall, I feel that this is the best Harry Potter film to date and fans of the book series and the film series should be satisfied. I can only imagine what the next two installments will be like.

We were a month and a bit late, but finally our chance came to watch the sixth installment of this huge money making franchise. “How huge?” I hear you ask. Well…

The film opened to critical acclaim and instant commercial success, breaking the records for biggest midnight opening gross of all time as well as biggest single-day worldwide gross of all time. In five days the film made $394 million, breaking the record for biggest five-day worldwide gross in history. It is also the highest-grossing film of 2009, grossing more than $930 million, which puts the film on the all-time list of 10 highest-grossing films worldwide.

It was directed by David Yates off of… well nothing I’ve seen.

Lead roles come from Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint & Emma Watson off of these indie films:

and… Tim Burton’s wife who just happens to be right and is cast for every role in his films:

What a weirdo.

So a well respected British cast. But what to make of the film?

It was definitely better than I expected. One never really predicts that a film which is this guaranteed to make millions would need to be any good however, expectations were exceeded and the thing that primarily excited me was the visual aspect of the film.

Rolling hills in what looked like Scottish countryside, super imposed into the magic school of Hogwarts.

Fabulous white snowy scenes followed by enthralling games of Quidditch where you felt like a ball might hit you in the face.

The very first scene looked the best; as a sweeping camera quickly sped us through the streets of london, it really is stunning.

As for the script, it was nothing special. For example, the descision to give away a very necessary plot device in having a teacher ask Ron, Harry and Hermione, why it is, that “whenever anything happens, it’s always you three?” to which Ron replies; “Believe me, Professor. I’ve been asking myself that same question for the past six years.” Yes, we would be asking the same thing if we didn’t all realise, it’s a film . That annoyed me.

There was much comedy, including a very humorous bit where Ron is intoxicated by a love potion and he comments on how he thinks the moon is beautiful. Funny guy.

The acting was pretty top notch for the most part. My favourite being Sir Michael Gambon, who as usual delivered in the part of Albus Dumbledore. He’s likeable and just generally very good!

Not all of the acting was good. I was particuarly distressed by Bonnie Wright who played Ginny Weasley. I can see how they were stuck with her, having cast her for a minor role in the earlier films, not knowing she’dbe required for lead roles later on. To be quite honest she hasn’t got the right look for us to believe our protagonist would even think about wanting to be with her and quite frankly she can’t act. For what could potentially be the biggest film of the decade, the production company should have made wiser choices in ensuring their cast was perfect.

Overall this film most definitely held my interest and it looked brilliant. It made me want to watch the next one and ensured that I did not regret spending my time and money on it.

Emma, who plays Hermione Granger in the wizard series, is set to release a clothing collection in collaboration with the fashion label People Tree, while Bonnie is associated with brand Made-By.

Both fashion brands are renowned for their good work around the word..

“I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with,” the Telegraph quoted Emma as saying.

“I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian and environmental issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices, but there aren’t many options out there,” Emma added.

Meanwhile, Bonnie, who plays Ginny Weasley in Harry Potter flicks, said: “It is extremely important to me that the social and environmental issues associated with the production of fashion clothing are addressed,”

She also attended a Made-By event for Pure London at London Olympia.

She added: “I don’t really try to present a style. I just wear what I like if it makes me feel good.”

This is the 63rd post in our Celebrity of the Day series.

Bonnie was born in 1991 in London. Bonnie is an exuberant jack of all trades with interests in dance, art, and traveling as well as playing numerous instruments and sports. She is the daughter of jewelry designers Wright & Teague.

Her breakout role was that of Ginny Weasley in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. She auditioned for the role after her brother told her that she reminded him of the character. When asked how she got the part she responded that she became Ginny throughout the entire audition process.

Her role in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was very small with only a short scene on the train platform. But in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, she takes a very prominent role when she finds a mysterious diary at Hogwarts that begins to seep into her soul and consciousness.

For the next three films she nearly disappeared into the background once again, but just recently her character took on a prominent role once again in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, as Harry Potter’s new love interest.

She is going to continue playing Ginny through the final movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, after which she hopes to get new roles and challenges. She states that currently she finds it hard to do any extra work as she is still attending school. Her role as Ginny has been widely praised by critics and it is certain that she will continue to impress as she expands her talents as an actress.

Some might say this post is long awaited, and I’ve tried to figure out what and how to write it for a little while.
I’ve seen the movie twice now, and well the book will always remain miiiiles ahead, because I’m a geek that likes reading books. But by all means the movie had a few very good moments and overall it was nicely done and portrayed some of the most important scenes as it should. I also like the style David Yates have gone for too, the dark and moody setting is perfect for the 6th movie.

But if I were to speak from an bystanders view, someone who doesn’t know the story, who hasn’t read the books or doesn’t know what will happen next, it might cause slight confusion, and almost feel a little incomplete because it doesn’t really have that anti-climax that you’re waiting for. Sure the clock tower scene is quite the climax, but not like the other film, nor does it really end with and end if you catch my drift.

However as a build up to the last films (because the Deathly hallows is split into two films) it works brilliantly, it gives us the information we need for the coming films.
I really enjoyed most of this film because of that sole reason.
Maybe the love stories took a bit too much space, but it did provide us with a solid dose of Rupert Grint who really gets to shine in this movie, he’s quite the comical talent.
As does Tom Felton, we get to see more of his talent, the darkness that is pushing Draco Malfoy more and more of the edge. It is nice for once to turn your attention to someone else than Daniel Radclife, sure he does a good Harry, but it’s nice that not 100% of the storyline is based upon him but also his co-stars. Bonnie Wright get a bit more attention too as she should since Harry is falling in love with her during this book. They could’ve possibly taken this aspect of the love stories a little bit further I think instead of that silly flirting scene earlier.

All in all I’d say Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a good movie, 4/5 stars I reckon.
It made me aw, it made me cry and it made me want more.
But it was missing that last omphf, and well some of the scenes not in the book, at least one was quite unecessary, as well as some scenes missing that should’ve been there, but oh well..
It sounds like the final films will contain pretty much everything, since it is split in two, even though I’d gladly spend 6 hours at the cinema watching it all together..

So there you have it, finally I managed to write up what I thought about it. and watching the trailer makes me wanna see it again! Good thing I am currently reading the book, it satisfies my cravings hehe
