Sorry, liebe Leute, nicht Darwin war der größte Ketzer aller Zeiten, er hat ihm nur den Weg gebahnt.

Darwin hat das Bild gemacht, – daran besteht kein Zweifel.

Aus seiner Zeit heraus mußte es ein “Negativ” sein. – Darwin kannte die “soziale Wirklichkeit” des Charles Dickens, in dem jeder, der nicht der “Upper Class” angehörte, Tag für Tag um sein Überleben kämpfen mußte.

Kein Wunder also, daß Darwin seine Erfahrungen in die Natur projizierte.

Wir tun dasselbe heute auch noch: Der Sprachgebrauch in Berichten über die Evolution ist militaristisch, unsere sozialen Bedingungen nähern sich dem frühen 19. Jahrhundert erneut an.

Der Gepard, ein schneller, gnadenloser Jäger! – Fragezeichen! Drehen Sie das Bild einfach einmal um:

Die Gazelle – eine gnadenlose Gepardenkinderkillerin? – So sieht es aus, wenn eine Gazelle einer Gepardin davonrennt und deren Kinder mangels Beute verhungern müssen.

Nicht der Jäger “dominiert” die Beute. Umgekehrt wird ein Schuh draus. Wer von Pflanzen lebt, kann sich glücklich schätzen, denn diese laufen nicht davon. Wer aber auf die Jagd angewiesen ist, der muß mit dem zufrieden sein, was er erwischen kann. – Und das ist wenig genug.

“Tyrannosaurus Rex” hat niemals die Erde beherrscht. – Er lebte von den Kadavern, die irgendwo herumlungerten. – Entgegen anderslautenden Berichten war er kein furchterregender Jäger. Mit seinen lächerlichen Ärmchen hätte er kein Beutetier festhalten können. Seine nächsten Verwandten, die Vögel, haben in der “Jagdvariante” samt und sonders leistungsfähige Greiforgange. – Geier aber nicht. Die Vögel, die sich bei der Beutejagd einzig auf ihren Schnabel verlassen, fressen Insekten. – Ich kenne keinen Biologen, de unseren guten alten T. Rex jemals einen Insektenfresser genannt hätte.

Vom Standpunkt unserer Mitaffen aus gesehen, haben wir ähnlich lächerliche Ärmchen wie T. Rex. – Und weil wir geneigt sind, unsere unangenehmen artspezifischen Eigenschaften  in die Natur zu projizieren, würden uns Schimpanse, Bonobo, Gorilla &Co in einer Art Artbetimmungskonferenz – nicht ohne Humor – wohl zum

Tyrannopithecus Majestix

erklären.

Ich brauchte nur das Negativ, das Darwin entwickelt hatte, neu zu belichten und zu entwickeln. Und schon hatte ich das Bild: Die Evolution als nichtlinear-thermodynamisches System.

Das Chaos ist die Gottgewollte Ordnung.

EU sai sitten valittua itselleen presidentin ja ulkoministerin. Ulkoministerin pallin hurmasi brittiparonitar Catherine Ashton. Hän on hoitanut EU:n kauppakomissaarin virkaa ja on koulutukseltaan sosiologi. Vuonna 2006 hän sai ”Kiviseinä”palkinnon ansioistaan brittiläisten LGBT – apinoiden elämän helpottamisessa. Tässä mielessä hänellä siis on yhteneväinen historia erään Tarja Halosen kanssa, jota häntäkin eräät tahot yrittivät tyrkyttää näihin yhteiseurooppalaisiin huippuvirkoihin. Molemmilla on myös sama pätevyys viran hoitoon: heillä on kolo putken tilalla.

Ashton on varmaankin vallan pätevä henkilö hoitamaan tätä pestiä, onhan hänellä päässään ilmiselvästi urostyypin aivot. Leimallista tässä valintaprosessissa olikin se tapa, jolla naarasväki sai tahtonsa läpi. Sehän on niin perinteinen kuin olla voi, suoraan simpansseilta kopioitu. Pelkkää evoluution tuotetta siis. Simpanssilauman johtajaksikaan ei millään uroksella ole asiaa, ellei se nauti lauman vanhojen naaraiden luottamusta. Mutta tällä kertaa EU -naaraat väänsivät sordiinoa känkkäränkkätaajuudelle. Tiedättehän ne lapset, jotka heittäytyvät kaupan lattialle, kun äiti ei osta karkkia…

Näin tekevät myös ne simpanssinaaraat, jotka eivät osaa tai halua käyttää seksiä saadakseen haluamansa. Ne heittäytyvät maahan kieriskelemään ja kirkumaan saadakseen osansa urosten metsästyssaaliista. Helpompaa ja mieluisampaa kaikille osapuolille olisi tietysti tarjota seksiä niin kuin suurin osa naaraista tekeekin. Silloin voisi saada kaikkein mehevimmät paistinpalat, mutta sehän ei vaan kaikille naaraille sovi. Evoluutio on näköjään katsonut parhaaksi luoda tähänkin tilanteesen monimuotoisuutta…

Näin tekivät myös naismepit [1]. Eivät he sentään kadulla kieriskelleet, mutta järjestivätpä kuitenkin mielenosoituksen ulkosalla, olivat kietoneet kaulaansa solmiot sekä rintojensa peitoksi puvuntakit ja uhkasivat kaataa uuden komission, ellei heidän vaatimuksiinsa suostuta. Me olemme kaikissa puolueryhmissä saaneet tarpeeksemme miesten politiikasta, vaikeroi parlamentin varapuhemies Diana Wallis. Komission varapuheenjohtaja Margot Wallström syytti kaikesta miehiä. Edessä on miesmuuri, hän visersi.

Niinpä mahtavalle EU:lle valittiin ulkoministeri vain sillä perusteella, ettei valituksi tulleella apinalla ole penistä jalkojensa välissä. En oikein ymmärrä, miten tällainen valintaperuste voi olla millään tavalla kestävä. Ulkoministerin pestissäkö on muka tärkeämpää, mitä jalkojen välistä löytyy kuin mitä sattuu olemaan korvien välissä? Tällainen valintafilosofia nyt vain sattuu perustumaan kolmella tavalla vanhanaikaiseen ihmiskäsitykseen. Ikään kuin ihmiskuvamme lilluisi vielä samoissa alkuliemissä, josta maakeskeinen maailmankuvakin pinnisti voimansa.

Mutta haloo. Nykyään sentään tiedetään yhtä ja toista muun muassa aivojen toiminnasta. Vastoin naarasaktivistien toiveita aivotutkimus todistaa urosten ja naaraiden aivojen toimivan keskimäärin täysin eri tavalla. Ehkä hämäävintä tässä on kuitenkin se, että jalkovälin laatu ei ole mikään todiste aivojen toiminnan laadusta. Eli jos ulkoministeriksi valitaan apina vailla penistä, hän ei välttämättä toimi niin kuin naarasaivot tekisivät. On jopa todennäköistä, että sellaiset 90 prosenttia kaikista naaraspoliitikoista on urosaivoisia. Eikö tämän pitäisi aiheuttaa jonkinlaista pohdintaa? Eli kun Wallis ja Wallström syyllistävät miehiä, he itse asiassa tulevatkin syyttäneeksi itseään…

Aivotutkimuksen kieltäminen on se ensimmäinen perinteisen ”tyhjän taulun” kannattajien ihmiskäsitysvirhe. Toinen moka on se, etteivät he pysty käsittämään todellisen vallan ja muodollisen vallan eroa. Todellinen valtahan on sillä sukupuolella, joka käyttää seksuaalista valtaa. Nisäkkäillä se vaan menee niin, että lisääntymismahdollisuus määrittää kaiken yhteiskunnallisen toiminnan perimmäisen sisällön aivan riippumatta siitä, kuinka kauniisiin raameihin toiminta naamioidaan. Eikä apina nyt äkkipäätään muista yhtään nisäkäslajia, jolla seksuaalinen valta olisi uroksilla.

Aika harvassa ovat puolestaan lajit, joilla myös muodollinen valta on naaraiden käpälissä. Malliesimerkki tästä on täplähyeena, jonka laumaelämän raadollista todellisuutta ei voi olla ihmettelemättä. Sitä tulee miettineeksi, mikä jäynä evoluutiolla on ollut mielessään tällaisen kokeen järjestäessään. Muodollisen ja todellisen vallan erossa pitäminen kun on se suurin ja jokseenkin ainoa evoluution keksimä tasa-arvon muoto. Silloin kun molemmat vallan muodot keskittyvät yhdelle ja samalle yksilölle, odotettavissa ei ole mitään hyvää. Oire tästä näkyy vaikkapa tämänpäiväisestä pikku uutisesta [2].

Toinen evoluution koejärjestely on tapahtunut pimeimmässä Afrikassa, Kongo -joen mutkassa. Siellä elävät leppeää elämäänsä bonobosimpanssit (sikäli kuin pystyvät karttamaan ihmisapinan julmuuksia ja ympäristöterroria). Niitä voisi kutsua vaikkapa paratiisin asukeiksi, sillä tuskinpa minkään muun nisäkäslajin elo on yhtä auvoista. Koejärjestelyyn kuuluu kaksi osaa. Ensinnäkin naaraat käyttävät muodollista valtaa. Ne ovat joutuneet maksamaan siitä myös hinnan, sillä bonobolaumassa rehottaa vapaa seksi. Naaraat ovat joutuneet luopumaan seksuaalisesta vallastaan muodollisen valtikan saadakseen.

Nämä ovat siis ne eväät, joiden perustalta tätä ulkoministerinimitystäkin pitäisi arvioida.

Niin se kolmas väärinkäsitys. Se on ajallisesti nuorin ja sai alkunsa rahan keksimisestä vain muutama vuosituhat sitten. Ilmiö on niin nuori, ettei evoluutio ole ehtinyt siihen reagoida, vaan sallii edelleen ihmislajin arvottaa rahan terveyden edelle. Tämähän ei voi olla mitenkään kestävä yhtälö, mutta niin vaan naarasliikekin palvoo pelkkää rahaa. Ellei näin olisi, meillä olisi jo otettu tasa-arvopolitiikan tavoitteeksi miesten ja naisten elinaikojen tasaaminen. Sellaista ei ole edes näköpiirissä, vaikka meillä on uros alan ministerinä. Ainoa kiinnostava tavoite on rahojen tasaaminen.

Juhlapuheissa toki muistetaan puhua terveydestä ja tänäisen Iltalehden pääkirjoituksen [3] mukaisesti julistaa, että terveys on ihmiselle tärkein asia. Eihän se nyt vaan niin ole. Ihmiselle tärkein asia näyttää olevan raha. Rahaa pidetään vielä terveyttä tärkeämpänä inhimillisenä ominaisuutena.

November 12, 2009 – Jacksonville, Florida — Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens announced its fourth bonobo born at the Zoo—the first in five and one-half years. The female infant was born on the 6th of November to Kuni, a 24 –year-old female bonobo who came to the Jacksonville Zoo from the San Diego Zoo in 2003. The sire of the baby is unknown, but could be either Akili or Mabruki, resident males that are both recommended by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan (SSP) to breed with Kuni. DNA tests will be done when the infant is older to determine paternity.

Kuni, born at the Wilhelma Zoo in Germany on February 24, 1985, is important to the Bonobo SSP population because she is unrelated to all other U.S. bonobos, except her daughter Johari. Johari is non-reproductive, making Kuni and this new infant that much more valuable to the population for increasing genetic diversity. Both Kuni and her infant will be monitored closely to make sure that they are healthy.

“The mother has wonderful paternal skills,” said the Zoo’s Director of Animal Programs, Delfi Messinger. “She seems so proud, and shows her baby to the ‘aunties’ in the group, as well as to her human caretakers. The pair will be on exhibit intermittently beginning this weekend depending on social grouping and the weather.”

We had our big anatomy scan and they said everything looks really great with Baby Bonobo  and that we’re having a little girl!

Eu “devia” estar preparando um aula, mas estava dando uma procrastinadinha básica no Twitter quando o @LeoBMarques mandou o link para a apresentação da Susan Savage-Rumbaugh noTED. E como cientista (pasmem!) também é gente, e como toda a gente é besta, tô emocionada com os macacos bonobos até agora.

Susan Savage-Rumbaugh é uma primatologista famosa por seus trabalhos com as macacas bonobos (Pan paniscus) Kanzi e Panbanisha. Seus estudos tentam desvendar a aprendizagem e o uso de linguagem nessa espécie de primatas e ela tem publicado artigos interessantes e intrigantes, pra dizer o mínimo!

Apesar de receber críticas de todos os lados – sacomé, humanos não curtem muito essa história de serem parecidíssimos com outras espécies, principalmente no que diz respeito à linguagem – até mesmo do famosérrimo Steven Pinker, Savage-Rumbaugh lidera um laboratório chamadoGreat Ape Trust of Iowa. Lá, ela, agora aposentada de funções administrativas, faz um monte de pesquisas sobre o comportamento simbólico dos macacos.

Schimpansen kennen Heilpflanzen gegen Würmer oder Durchfall, Kapuzineraffen und Vögel wissen, wie sie sich gegen Insekten schützen können. Das pharmakologische Wissen von Tieren erforscht die noch junge Wissenschaft der Zoopharmakognosie.

Dies ist Aspilia, eine Heilpflanze der Schimpansen”, sagt unser tansanischer Führer. Er ist Zoologe. “Schimpansen kennen viele Heilmittel und können sich selbst behandeln, wenn sie krank sind. Aspilia rudis setzen sie zum Beispiel gegen Würmer ein.” Er zeigt eine dünne Pflanze mit pelzigen, stacheligen Blättern. Aspiliablätter gehören nicht zur normalen Nahrung der Menschenaffen, sie sind viel zu bitter und stachelig. Kranke Tiere jedoch pflücken die haarigen Blätter dieser wilden Sonnenblume. Sie falten sie mit den Lippen und schlucken die Blattpakete unzerkaut hinunter. Würmer im Darm bleiben dann in den Haaren der Blätter hängen und werden mit den Blättern ausgeschieden.

Diese Beobachtung hat Professor Michael Huffmann von der Universität in Kyoto gemacht, der seit den 80-er Jahren im Mahale Mountains National Park in Tansania Schimpansen erforscht. Er hat in den ausgeschiedenen Blattpaketen zum Beispiel den bis zu drei Zentimeter langen Fadenwurm Oesophagostomum stephanostomum gefunden. Für den gezielten medizinischen Einsatz der Pflanze spricht auch, dass die Schimpansen die haarigen Blätter vor allem nach dem Einsetzen der Regenzeit schlucken, wenn die Infektionsgefahr mit Parasiten besonders groß ist.

Huffmann ist ein Pionier der noch relativ jungen Zoopharmakognosie, die sich mit dem instinktiven und gelernten pharmakologischen Wissen von Tieren beschäftigt. Er hat zum Beispiel beobachtet, dass Schimpansen auch eine Medizin gegen Durchfall haben: das Mark des Mjonso- oder Bitterblatt-Baums (Vernonia amygdalina), einer Scheinastern-Art. Normalerweise meiden die Tiere diesen Baum, denn Blätter und Rinde sind bitter und giftig. Doch wenn sie Durchfall haben, lutschen Schimpansen das Mark aus den Zweigen und kauen die Blätter, ohne sie jedoch zu schlucken. Einen Tag später geht es den Tieren dann wieder gut. Pflanzenbiochemiker haben die Inhaltsstoffe des Baumes analysiert und 13 zuvor unbekannte Steroidglykoside mit antibakteriellen und antiparasitären Eigenschaften gefunden.

Über 30 Pflanzen-Arten sind inzwischen dokumentiert, die Schimpansen, Bonobos und Gorillas als Heilpflanzen benutzen. Auch von ihren asiatischen Vettern, den Orang-Utans, ist ein gezielter medizinischer Einsatz von Pflanzen bekannt.

Andere Tiere kennen sich mit natürlichem Insektenschutz gut aus. So pflücken Kapuzineraffen in Venezuela während der Regenzeit Blätter von Clematis-, Zitrus- und Pfeffer-Pflanzen, die insektenabweisende Stoffe enthalten. Sie zerkauen die Blätter und reiben ihr Fell mit dem Speichelbrei ein. Doch nicht nur das: Sie sammeln bestimmte Tausendfüßer – den bis zu acht Zentimeter langen Orthoporus dorsovittatus. Die schlagen, kneten, quetschen und zerkauen sie, damit sie Benzochinon, ein sehr potentes Insektengift, ausscheiden. Dann wird das Fell eingerieben.

Wilde Möhre im Nest vertreibt lästige Milben

Auch Vögel betreiben Insektenschutz. Von über 200 Vogelarten ist bekannt, dass sie sich Ameisen ins Gefieder reiben. Manche Vögel legen sich sogar mit ausgebreiteten Flügeln auf einen Ameisenhaufen. Die Dämpfe der zur Verteidigung ausgeschiedenen Ameisensäure töten Läuse und Federmilben im Gefieder ab. Europäische Stare legen ihre Nester mit frischen Kräutern aus. Darunter ist die wilde Möhre (Daucus carota). Die enthält das Steroid B-Sistosterol, das Milben abweist. Versuche haben ergeben, dass eine Brut in dergestalt aromatisierten Nestern viel weniger von Milben und Läusen befallen ist. Von Elefanten oder Papageien wiederum ist bekannt, dass sie regelmäßig Lehm fressen. Lehm bindet Toxine, Bakterien und Viren, schützt die Darmwand und absorbiert Flüssigkeit, was bei Diarrhö hilft.

“Menschen können viel von den Tieren lernen”, davon ist unser afrikanischer Führer überzeugt. Vielfach werden die von den Tieren benutzten Pflanzen bereits von Menschen in den entsprechenden Regionen angewendet – meist mit den gleichen Indikationen. So benützen zum Beispiel die Tongwe, die in der Gegend der Mahale Mountains in Tansania leben, wie die Schimpansen Blätter des Mjonso-Baums gegen Durchfall. Allerdings kochen sie sie ab. Auch was die Vögel vormachen, machen Menschen nach: Die wilde Möhre wird in der traditionellen Medizin gegen chronischen Juckreiz eingesetzt.

Auch unsere Haustiere können sich teilweise selbst behandeln. Hunde fressen zum Beispiel Gras, um ihre Verdauung zu regulieren. Das erleichtert ihnen außerdem das Erbrechen von Knochenresten. Katzen scheint Gras dabei zu helfen, die bei der Fellpflege verschluckten Haarballen zu erbrechen. Zudem nehmen sie darüber vermutlich auch Stoffe wie Folsäure auf, die die fleischliche Kost nicht liefert. (ug)

Once upon a time Saturday was my day. No worries on Saturday, no waking up agenda, no alarms, no plans, just easy-busy Saturday. That was part of the family deal when I met my two exes. Ironically, both of them with the same name, both of them ex, both of them (and me) happy today, luckily. The deal was either you take me with my Saturday schedule or not at all.

My lovely Saturday was spent in bed, with breakfast in bed, watching some movies or reading a book, having sex or just daydreaming. My type of Saturday. In the afternoon I would get up, take a looooong shower, take all the time in the world to shave everywhere (not like during the week when you’re not sure are you shaving or is it an attempt to suicide) and put mask on my hair, will just stay in the shower with the hot water pouring on my skin and would just listen to the sound of the water. Then I would go out of the shower, will sit on the coach next to the window and will just look at the sky, will play some chill music and will take all the time in the world to put vanilla body lotion all over my body, but slowly, no rush, just enjoying the feeling of the cold lotion on my soft and warm skin. I would smoke a cigarette, slowly again, inhaling each time like it’s the last time. I will make myself a cup of cappuccino, will bake the coffee first for few minutes, to get the smell stronger, then will add hot foamy milk and brown sugar. Again, I would just sit in my cozy coach, nestled in my fluffy bathrobe and will watch the sky, relaxing and allowing the time to flow in me. Then my girl would come and undress me and we will make the most sensual, breath-taking, passionate and unforgettable sex ever made by two human beings. We will silently stare at the sunset and will just communicate with no words. The most content and meaningful conversation two souls could have. Later on we would go out for a dinner at some cozy quiet restaurant and I would eat sushi for first time.  We would drink amazing Beaujolais and I will read her mind through her eyes over the candles. She will hold my hand under the table and I will blush, trying to hide how aroused I am just by one her touch. I will tell her all just with one sigh and one look. We’ll pay the bill rushing and will laugh at the surprised face of the waiter for no waiting for the change on our way out to the taxi. She will ask the driver to turn down his back-side mirror on the way home.

I will pick up the most fancy, expensive and extravagant dress I have in my wardrobe and will forget to put my underwear. Then I will take all the time in the world to put some make up and perfume. She will look at me, sigh, and tell me I am her world tonight.

And then we’ll just go out to that club, where I can just forget everything, where I could just fall in love with the music and the vibes. This magical world where everything is possible and even if it’s just that night, it’s your fairytale. I would meet my few good friends there and one of them will hug me and kiss me and I would know that in a parallel universe, in another life we would have been meant for each other. But not tonight, not in this life, not in this universe. I would just smile and say something funny, with a bit of regret and sadness.

I would go out on the street and would just sit on the bench, looking at the sunrise and daydreaming of a better life, of silver moons and golden sunrises, of eyes I would just get drowned in and a soul that would complement me, will match me like rack-wheel. Maybe next Saturday…in another life…on an island…where the sky is unbelievably blue and the sun is a melting gold…Maybe any Saturday…

Café Bonobo alia teoria e prática do veganismo e permacultura

Um encontro de pessoas ligadas ao veganismo e vegetarianismo com pessoas de movimentos ambientalistas e do Teatro Mágico aconteceu ontem na cidade.

Este encontro foi realizado no bar Bonobo, que fica na esquina da Castro Alves com a Felipe Camarão, aqui em Porto Alegre. É um bar vegano onde há permacultura, reciclagem, saraus e clube de leitura.

Estavam presentes, entre outros, o grupo Vanguarda Abolicionista, a SVB, o Teatro Mágico e ouvintes.

A mistura desta ótima idéia com o local, resultou num evento animado e bastante produtivo. Onde as pessoas se conheceram, trocaram contatos e discutiram diversos temas relacionados ao meio ambiente e aos animais.

Ambiente e sofrimento animal

A crise ambiental já está bem clara em nosso planeta com a constatação de que a humanidade já passa dos 6 bilhões de habitantes. A esse fato, soma-se o impacto bastante forte de nossas atividades e o pouco compromisso da humanidade em mudar hábitos. Por mais que façamos coisas positivas em favor do ambiente, ainda estamos muito atrasados em relação a alguma mudança planetária efetiva. Estamos apenas patinando em idéias e poucas atitudes. Embora exista países em franco avanço com relação às leis ambientais, boa parte do mundo vive em constante destruição.

Por isso, ressaltei na mesa redonda deste evento, que o sofrimento das espécies é a causa mais urgente a se trabalhar. A humanidade será a espécie que logicamente irá sofrer as conseqüências de seus próprios atos, mas a natureza como um todo, logicamente se restabelecerá.

Expoentes do veganismo se fizeram presentes para discutir posições

O fato acima não é novidade na Biologia e nas ciências evolutivas. Desde milhares e milhares de anos atrás, os ecossistemas entram em colapso e em extinção, levando consigo diversas espécies únicas que nunca mais voltam a reinar sobre a Terra.

Estes ecossistemas sumiram, mas vieram outros. Mesmo observando diversos ecossistemas em nosso tempo, percebemos que quando deixados em paz, eles voltam a se restaurar, ou se transformam em outros cenários. A humanidade pode interferir, mas existem forças naturais maiores que atuam a longo prazo.

O fator aqui e agora é o sofrimento de milhões de animais à luz do dia, debaixo de nosso nariz. Sabemos que o “ambiente”, apesar das infinitas interações que o fazem um gigantesco organismo, é uma entidade que não possui um sistema nervoso e não sofre dor.

Mas os animais que interagem nos diversos ecossistemas e fora deles: nas sociedades artificiais humanas, sofrem sistematicamente. E quanto a isto temos responsabilidade moral e também ambiental.
Mostrei também que atuando em favor dos animais, também estamos sendo ecológicos, porque sendo veganos (aqueles que se abstém de comer animais e seus derivados, que também não usam roupas, calçados de couro/pele e produtos que tenham sido testados em animais) estamos evitando diversos impactos sobre a natureza que estes produtos causam.

O impacto do uso de animais na natureza é gigantesco e muito maior do que diversos outros impactos menores – mas as pessoas seguem acreditando que basta apagar a luz e tapar a panela para estarem fazendo sua parte, não é mesmo?

Há documentado na literatura especializada, em livros de ecologia e em diversos documentos que inclusive já podemos encontrar na web, diversas pesquisas sobre quais são os impactos que a criação de animais e seus derivados podem ocasionar no ambiente.

Então, a proposta dos grupos que se encontraram neste evento foi tentar juntar estas idéias, com a vontade de ajudar o ambiente, mas sem esquecer dos indivíduos que ali estão representados, e daqueles que há muitos anos estão totalmente fora de qualquer ambiente natural: os animais de consumo.

Ativistas, vegetarianos e interessados trocaram idéias e acompanharam os temas

Lembrou-se que o frango, por exemplo, é um animal “inventado”. Não existe na natureza. Quando alguém luta contra os transgênicos, deveria também saber como funcionam os centros de biotecnologia das grandes empresas de animais de consumo, que criam animais manipulados genéticamente, que a maioria da população desconhece, inclusive muitos dos que se dizem contra os transgênicos – como se eles fossem apenas a única forma de manipulação genética. Existem diversos tipos de manipulação de genes em favor (ou contra) o ser humano, mas que muitas vezes prejudicam os animais e os ecossistemas.

Lembramos também a força do exemplo, que é muito útil na educação e no dia à dia de quem pretende deixar uma marca positiva neste nosso mundo. Muitas pessoas querem mudar seus hábitos consumistas, prejudiciais a si mesmo e à natureza, mas não sabem a quem recorrer, não sabem o que fazer.

Nos propomos, todos os que estavam lá, a ser um exemplo positivo (obviamente não perfeito), para as pessoas que vêm à nós com dúvidas e perguntas sobre meio ambiente e animais.

Também propomos uma rede, através da internet, de contatos entre os grupos e interessados no tema veganismo/vegetarianismo.

Este encontro não poderia ser realizado em lugar melhor que um bar que reúne veganismo, permacultura, arte e reciclagem, como um exemplo concreto de que podemos lutar pelo que acreditamos – frase que está escrita no muro da horta do bar.

Michael Buble's Crazy Love's record sales skyrocketed past New Moon's this week after an appearance on Oprah

Not even the New Moon crew could use their vampire powers to outdo Michael Buble’s release of Crazy Love, reports Rolling Stone. The crooner appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, causing album sales to skyrocket to over 55% more than during the record’s first week on shelves, outdoing the new Twilight soundtrack by a score of 203,000 to 115,000, respectively, according to the Nielsen SounScan. Oh, the power of Oprah.

Stereogum gives us a look at last night’s Grizzly Bear gig at the Hollywood Palladium in L.A. with some pretty sweet pictures courtesy of Andrew Youssef. Beach House, the opening act, played a few tracks that will appear on their new release, Teen Dream, due out from Sub Pop Records on January 26^th.

Seattle’s post-hardcore pioneers The Blood Brothers practiced one of the 2000s’ most unique forms of punk, and after their breakup in 2007, fans were left with little to cling to other than their old Blood Brother’s records. Until now, that is. Epitaph Records is planning to re-release the entire The Blood Brothers‘ catalogue, minus their 2000 debut, This Adultery Is Ripe, reports Pitchfork. Look for it to the reissues, which will come stocked by B-sides, videos and live performance videos, when they drop on November 17.

Canada’s Kid Koala, Dynomite D and Wolfmother’s ex-rhythm section Chris Ross and Myles Heskett make up the psych group Slew. Their debut release, 100%, is set to be reissued by Ninja Tune, the label responsible for the likes of Amon Tobin, Blockhead, Bonobo and The Bug, just to name a few, reports Pitchfork. Look for the turntable-heavy sounds of Slew when the record drops on November 24^th.

….london artist Bonobo and fellow songstress Andreya Triana blend together melodiously on “The Keeper”…the downtempo track is splendidly soothing…who would have thought that a xylophone could sound so good?

I’ve had a bit of a YouTube binge over the last few days. Every now and then I’ll stop by and type in a random artists name, or look for a particular video, and then I’ll go through the ‘related videos’ section. I can lose ridiculous amounts of time to this activity, but it almost always turns up a gem or two.

This time I came across some videos from Andreya Triana. Andreya is an artist I have become increasingly excited about over the last couple of months. First we had her debut single, ‘Lost Where I Belong’ and then the video surfaced for Bonobo’s ‘The Keeper’ (featuring Andreya on vocals) which is nicely building anticipation for her debut album, due early 2010.

The 3 videos I’ve featured are taken from a live performance Andreya did for MusFlashTV. In all of the videos Andreya has no backing music, instead she uses a Line 6 DL4 delay/looper (basically she records herself, loops the snippet and sings over herself). Check out her cover of ‘Sweet Dreams’ below and two more tracks after the break.
