The cardinal gets seated ready to autograph copies of his third book entitled A Voice for the Flock. The book is a select compilation of his various homilies through the years including one delivered during the requiem mass for former Philippine President Corazon Aquino.

His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, the third archbishop of Cebu, on his 79th birthday and launching of his third book entitled A Voice for the Flock at the Cathedral Museum of Cebu.

The cardinal affixes his signature in one of the copies of his newly launched book which contains a select compilation of his homilies over the years. The book entitled A Voice for the Flock was launched at the Cathedral Museum of Cebu which also coincided with his 79th birthday.

The Cardinal listens to some of the guests who read excerpts of his third book, A Voice for the Flock, which was launched at the Cathedral Museum of Cebu on the occasion of his 79th birthday.

The Cardinal shares some light moments with writer Cookie Newmann prior to the start of the launching of his third book entitled A Voice for the Flock at the Cathedral Museum of Cebu. The activity coincided also with his 79th birthday.

What do you serve after White Strawberries? The answer, according to writer Robert Acorn is Black Raspberries. Acorn’s third book, Black Raspberries will be launched at the Confederation Centre Library on Sunday, November 22^nd from 2-4 pm .

Acorn’s first collection of poetry White Strawberries was released in 2000. His first book of prose was entitled Little Acorns and Milton. Published in 2005, it offered stories of growing up in Charlottetown and of his brother—“the People’s Poet” and Canlit icon. Now, Acorn, an octogenarian who still enjoys an annual Island tip-to-tip bicycle jaunt, has published another collection of over a hundred poems, a book that has come to fruition after several years of work.

“The poems are folk art treasures,” says Paul Vreeland, who has assisted Acorn with the preparation of the book. “He’s a Maud Lewis in print. Robert’s work is unique, the poetry teasing and witty. Readers will appreciate the fact that they don’t have to struggle to appreciate the poems; they are accessible. Yet there is always something more to be gleaned from a second and a third reading.” The book is divided into sections, the titles of which give a sense of the flavour of Black Raspberries: Simple Confessions & Other Honesties, Riddles and Island Koans, More than Politics, Joke’s on Me, Intimations of the Muse, Answers, maybe, and Dreams & Disappointments. Also included are three short prose pieces.

Acorn is one of the founding members of TWiG (The Writers in Group) which has met regularly for the past 14 years. All of his books have been published under TWiG imprimatur.

Acorn will be reading from his latest collection, and signed copies will be available for sale.

Artist Seo Inyoung today (July 4th,2009) were at COEX Building-Seoul to launch her book titled “Seo Inyoung Fun Shopping“. The book is said to be her guidance on how to do your shopping in a ‘fun way & Inyoung way’.

Seo Inyoung was at the event and looking gorgeous with her simple hair do, she wears red plaid mini dress , black short + belt, pretty bangle and final touched her total appearance with black ankle boots And am so loving her manicure ^^ She looked pretty ^^

At the book launching, Inyoung was also held a Fan Signing event for her book reader (read : her fans) who extremely exciting on attending the event.

As part of the SOLAIR Week celebration, as early as now we are inviting everyone to the book launching of  “Vignettes of  Informal Workers” – a collection of essay/research conducted by SOLAIR students.  This will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009, 4:00PM at the Student-Alumni Social Hall of the college.

CHR Chair De Lima Gives COMELEC Chair Melo copies of the CHR book

The following is a speech delivered by the Honorable Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Jose A.R. Melo during today’s presentation of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) to the COMELEC with a book entitled “Ensuring the Right to Electoral Participation: Giving Access to Vulnerable Sectors in 2010.”

The book outlines the rights body’s recommendations on how to best ensure the right to suffrage of the most vulnerable sectors in our society during elections: the indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, internally displaced persons, the detained, the elderly and the first time voters.

[Greetings]

2010 is just around the corner and this book – Ensuring the Right to Electoral Participation: Giving Access to Vulnerable Sectors in 2010 – is a very timely reminder to the Commission that our work should not just be limited to administering the elections. We must also be very aware that there are those among us who do not have as much access to the electoral system as they are entitled to and deserve.

And it is very fitting that today is also Global Election Day as we are right now at a very historic convergence.

Prior to today, very few people had ever even thought of elections in terms of human rights; certainly, those in field of elections tend to be more preoccupied with statistics and trends.

This book changes all that.

By inextricably linking the right of suffrage with the concept of human rights – in other words by considering the right to participate in free and honest elections as an unalienable entitlement of every person – we elevate both to higher levels within the hierarchy of individual liberties that need protection.

We wish to reassure the Commission on Human Rights, as well as its formidable helmsman – Chairman Leila M. De Lima – that this book will contribute much to the shaping of COMELEC policies from here on out.

We have already taken steps towards improving access to the electoral system – beginning with the creation of express lanes for the elderly, the pregnant, and for persons with disabilities – but we also recognize that there is so much more to be done.

And the COMELEC will do its share in spreading the word:

Disenfranchisement now cannot be considered a mere symptom of administrative failure, but an offense against the very freedom of a person; we must now emphasize even more that coercion, intimidation, and vote buying are not just despicable acts, that they are violative of fundamental freedoms; and of course, we must declare in no uncertain terms that electoral fraud is no longer just a felony, but an outrage against human dignity.

For this endeavor, this book will be our roadmap, our guide.

The book presentation was held this afternoon at the COMELEC Session Hall, in Intramuros, Manila. The event was attended by COMELEC Chairman Melo and Commissioners Lucenito Tagle and Leonardo Leonida. The CHR, on the other hand, was represented by its Honorable Chairman Leila M. de Lima and Commissioners Cecillia Rachel. Quisumbing, Ma. Victoria Cardona and Norberto dela Cruz.

Also present during the book presentation were representatives from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), The Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, Balay (representing the internally displaced persons), Task Force 2010 and the First Time Voters Project.

Bagi Rama yang profilnya telah tampil di berbagai media, peluncuran bukunya pasti akan mendapatkan liputan yang luas. Menurut Rama, menulis buku merupakan salah satu pencapaian utama dalam karirnya. Sebagai informasi, Rama pernah tampil di Kick Andy (Metro TV), Empat Mata/(Trans 7), Sosok (Harian Kompas), dan Majalah Annida.

Rama memiliki banyak talenta yang sulit kita bayangkan jika tidak bergaul dengannya secara langsung. Rama mampu bepergian kemana-mana sendirian dengan angkutan umum, bahkan ke luar pulau seperti Palembang dan Pontianak. Kok bisa? Karena dia telah belajar orientasi lapangan. Bahkan dia dapat mengetahui arah mata angin dari hembusan angin.

Suatu kali, Rama pernah kena batunya. Saat berdesakan di bus kota, secara tidak sengaja dia menyentuh gunung kembar seorang ibu. Tak ayal, si ibu menonjok Rama. Setelah tahu Rama seorang tuna netra akhirnya si ibu malah minta maaf.

Rama pecandu berat musik game sehingga bagi orang lain terlihat seperti “freak”. Uniknya, dia dapat menikmati acara menonton di bioskop. Bahkan dia sempat menonton Kungfu Panda 3 kali. Kebayang nggak sih nonton hanya dengan mendengarkan suaranya?

Rama saat ini sering diminta menjadi motivator. Sudah banyak perusahaan dan sekolah yang memintanya. Di antaranya Prudential, Yayasan Al Azhar, dan Direct English.

Rama juga belajar beladiri di Merpati Putih. Di sini kemampua batinnnya semakin terasah.

Tak mau ketinggalan dari orang normal, Rama juga suka ngeblog. Dia punya blog di Multiply dan blog berbayar. Pada blognya ini, Rama bisa melayani setiap komentar dengan baik. Bahkan dia dapat mengoreksi ejaan yang salah di blog orang lain. Saya telah membuktikannya saat Rama mengoreksi tulisan di blog saya.

Baru-baru ini Rama diutus mewakili Indonesia dalam pertemuan tuna netra Asia di Thailand. Pada satu sesi Rama bertanya dalam bahasa Inggris yang sangat fasih. Pendengaran Rama memang luar biasa, sehingga dia mampu menirukan pelafalan bahasa Inggris laksana native speaker.

Begitulah sinopsis dari buku perdana Grafindo buku umum yang akan diluncurkan di akhir bulan ini. Doakan ya semoga acara peluncurannya sukses dan diliput oleh media nasional. Dan yang terpenting, bukunya laku gitu loh…
