Coyle a adaugat ici-colea, prin partile esentiale, dar colectivul unit ce a surprins Albionul, promovand la mustata, continua sa minuneze, pastrand procentajul maxim la Turf Moor. O fi arena cea mai mica din elita, dar vocea suporterilor se face auzita. Iar idolii raspund pe masura, cu 1-0 si 3-1.

Stephen Maguire, snooker’s world No2, and another Scottish player, Jamie Burnett, were today detained by Strathclyde police and questioned over alleged irregular betting patterns during a UK Championship match. The players were released without charge.

The force’s economic crime unit said that a report would be submitted to the procurator fiscal’s office on completion of its inquiries into the game between the Scots in Telford on 15 December last year. The first-round match, which was subject to investigations by World Snooker and the Gambling Commission, was won 9-3 by Maguire. He took the match after Burnett failed to pot a black that would have reduced his score to 8-4.

Before the match, World Snooker was contacted by bookmakers reporting suspicious betting patterns on the outcome. They said there was heavy gambling on a 9-3 scoreline. Both men strenuously deny any wrongdoing and have pledged to co-operate with any investigations.

Favre to stay retired

It was reported today that Favre will stay retired. This is bad news for Minnesota Viking fans.

message Tuesday that the three-time MVP quarterback for the Green Bay Packers would not join his team when training camp opens later this week. Favre’s decision was first reported by The Star Tribune on its Web site.

Childress told the paper Favre did not want to put himself through the grind of a 19th NFL season. Favre himself did not immediately offer a comment from Hattiesburg, Miss., where he worked out with high school players this summer in a bid to keep in shape for a potential return to the NFL.

“It was a rare and unique opportunity to consider adding not only a future Hall of Fame quarterback but one that is very familiar with our system and division,” Childress said in a statement on the team’s Web site. “That does not detract from the team that we have.”

So will the Vikings go after Michael Vick next? I think they should as noted in my last article.

It was announced today that Michael Vick will be reinstated to the NFL with some conditions.

Vick can take part in practices, team meetings and preseason games but will have to wait until October to play regular season games. Like all arrests in the NFL and player suspensions there are plenty of opinions on what have should have happened to Vick. I for one applaud the commissioner for this move and think it works on all levels and for everyone involved.

The league also announced that former Bucs and Colts coach Tony Dungy has agreed to work as an advisor and mentor to Vick. This will give Michael Vick some clout with someone as classy as Tony Dungy on his side and may just convince a team to take a shot on him. Here are the teams that I think will take a shot at Vick.

The Falcons, Jets, Cowboys, and the Giants came out and said they don’t want any part of the troubled QB but who will?

San Francisco 49ers-The 49ers have been on the verge of being a playoff team but have had problems with the QB position. They could slowly get Vick into playing shape and give him a shot if the usual QB’s in SF flop.

New England Patriots-Well Tom Brady is the man so Vick would get limited playing time and they could give him plenty of time to work into a system. Bill Belichick has a reputation for molding troubled players like Randy Moss and making them stars again.

Tampa Bay Bucs-Tony Dungy has some roots in Tampa Bay and the QB spot down there is not exactly settled. He got talk management into giving Vick a shot with the promise that Dungy could keep him in check.

Oakland Raiders-Why not? He is the perfect character for the team and the fans and Al Davis has the rocks to pull it off.

Minnesota Vikings-If they don’t get Brett Favre then Michael Vick could have a shot at playing in purple but that would be if Brett says no.

Regardless where he plays it will be interesting to see how that team handles the negative press and Michael Vick handles himself as he returns to the NFL.

When the Formula 1 circus last rolled up to the Nürburgring, the previous ten visits had seen the Safety Car deployed just twice. Once in the wet of 1999 and once in the dry of 2006. A MAN has been jailed for the knifed hold-up of a bookmaker shop after the vicious robbery was caught on CCTV.

Terrified Alexander French handed over hundreds of pounds of takings after hooded Stephen Rowan flashed a blade at him.

The 50-year-old thief chucked a bag at Mr French and demanded that he fill it with money during the heist at a Coral store in Edinburgh.

Rowan made good his escape but CCTV images were used to help track him down and police found he had been boasting of the attack to pals.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court he was jailed for two years after admitting assault and robbery.

The court heard how Rowan had barged into the betting shop in Great Junction Street on March 26 this year.

Fiscal depute John Kirk said Mr French – a Coral employee – had just finished serving a customer when he was confronted by the knife wielding thug.

Mr Kirk said: “Shortly after midday Mr French was working in the Coral Bookmakers in Great Junction Street. He had just finished serving a customer when the accused appeared in front of him.

“He was wearing a hood tied tightly round his head and he threw a plastic bag at Mr French and said ‘fill it up’.”

Mr Kirk said Mr French noticed a four-inch silver blade in Rowan’s left hand and had no option but to hand over £280 in the bag before calling police.

Officers investigating circulated CCTV images which were taken in the shop and days later two policeman investigating another matter were told Rowan had been bragging about the robbery.

When they raided his home they found the knife concerned and the clothes that he had been wearing and Rowan admitted his crime during interview.

He claims he needed the cash to fund a 20-year heroin addiction that has cost him his family and asked that he be considered for a drug treatment order to battle the problem.

But Sheriff Derrick McIntyre told him: “If you go around producing a knife and threatening people for money you pay the punishment.”

Sheriff McIntyre sentenced Rowan to two years in custody, which he backdated to April when he was first held over the robbery.

La chiar ultima minge a meciului, Olanda a smuls victoria, la Lord’s, in dauna Angliei.

Albionul a mai fost el umilit la cricket in ultimii ani, fie cu cateva esecuri surpriza, fie fiind “demolati” categoric de adversari traditionali, dar niciodata n-au suferit umilinta de a fi infranti de niste novice, si inca in “buricul” acestui sport, pe terenul de referinta al England Cricket Board.

Am urmarit jocul intre englezi, in paralel cu lansarea unei seri de karaoke si cu DJ, dintr-un pub pe nume Duke of Edinburgh. Cand gluma s-a ingrosat, localnicii au inceput sa celebreze orice minge buna a Albionului sarind extaziati de pe scaune, de parca ar fi jucat mingile cheie din celebrele Ashes Tests cu rivalii australieni, si poate pana si Ducele de Edinburgh s-a rasucit in mormant in momentele cand, dupa ultima minge irosita de inaltul englez Broad, olandezii au invadat Lord’s intr-o efervescenta a bucuriei triumfului la potou, in ultima secunda, un triumf neasteptat si urias prin proportiile surprizei.

Englezii, batuti in propriul fief, la propriul lor joc, de niste amatori inediti ai cricketului, cotati cu ultima sansa la turneu… “E ca si cum am fi batuti de Kazakhstan la fotbal” l-a scapat gura pe un englez, uitand ca in seara urmatoare Albionul urma sa evolueze tocmai la Astana. E ca si cum unui turc i s-ar oferi o catedra a Academiei Romane, intru predarea lectiilor de limba romana.

World Twenty20 Series va continua, cu sau fara Anglia dupa faza grupelor. Intotdeauna, tara gazda ofera un plus de interes pentru intregul competitiei si iesirea sa din cursa ciunteste din efervescenta competitiei. Dar nici englezii nu sunt profeti la cricket in tara lor. Guvernul se destrama, institutii financiare s-ar fi topit fara a fi nationalizate, lira sterlina plonjeaza, lanturi de magazine isi pun lacatul, somajul e in crestere, multe nume si firme se discrediteaza la darea deoparte a valului, si restul companiilor sunt vandute unor consortii straine si poate sfarsesc, aidoma altora, prin a disparea sau a fi falimentare, societatea civila in general, ca si coeziune, e de cativa ani intr-un proces de evidenta destramare, restul sporturilor nu merg nici ele prea bine, Olimpiada 2012 pare incet-incet a se transforma si ea intr-un fiasco financiar, iar acum, uite, … cricketul. Albionul, invins acasa de… Olanda!

Se poate mai rau? Se poate mai jos? O-ho-ho, si inca cum. Bineinteles! Consolarea a urmat a doua zi, cu Anglia invingatoare in Kazakhstan, 4-0. Albionul e ca si calificat la Cupa Mondiala de fotbal din Africa de Sud, de la anul. Ca o observatie, si doar atat, ca doar Anglia e mai abitir difuzata in Romania decat in insula, nu multi au fost jucatorii proveniti din “careul de asi”. Green (West Ham) – Johnson (Portsmouth), Upson (West Ham), Terry (Chelsea), A Cole (Chelsea) – Walcott (Arsenal), Gerrard (Liverpool), Lampard (Chelsea), Barry (Manchester City) – Rooney (Man Utd), Heskey (Aston Villa). Pe cat de mare dominatia in campionat, pe atat de subtire reprezentarea la nationala…
