One of my fondest Christmas memories was when I was a teenager, and my father , who was retired navy, took us into the Navy Exchange on the base in Guam, and basically told us to choose out our Christmas present.

My three brothers, sister and I could not believe our luck, this was our chance to choose out the present we really wanted.  We could not believe our dad was being so generous.

I had been eying this boom box for a while and I went up and got it.  I was in heaven because every teenager of my generation had or thought they needed one.  My father did not even wince.  My siblings all got their items.

I enjoyed that boom box for several Christmases after that one.

We still got presents under the tree that Christmas, but the holidays always bring this memory back to mind of my dad.  He has long since passed away.  I miss him and remember that in his own way he showed that he loved his children.  Merry Christmas, Dad, wherever you are!

If you can’t swing the big iPod boombox, at least you can have this tiny one.  It’ll allow for you to play your music through a classic boombox, but you won’t have to break the bank to buy it.  Of course you’ll look really silly trying to perch this on your shoulder, so you might just want to leave this one on the tabletop.  At least you’ll get to combine your new technology with a true classic.

The dock features double speakers and is supposed to offer a rich sound.  It’s compatible with most iPods and even will work great with the iPhone.  The device can only be wiped clean, for obvious reasons.  They don’t state how the dock receives its power, whether it’s by batteries or if it’s USB powered.  I would hope it’s USB powered, but you never know.  You can purchase it for $18.

How cool is this bag??!! I don’t have words. I found it at Fred Flare’s website, which is quickly turning into a kitschy obsession.

This sweet feather headband is…sweet. I am not a fan of headbands with bows (why, you ask? Because I’m no longer 8), but the feather is kind of rock star meets peacock…which wouldn’t exactly be the look I would be going for but you get the picture.

Something else that rocks? A treasure chest ring! Who wouldn’t want to open a treasure chest and admire the goods?! And I dare one to find a chest so adorable and easily transportable…

Yes, that is correct.  I wanted to bust their windshield.

This is the car that pulled up to beside me on the way home from work on Friday.  Big yellow 5.0 mustang.  Woman driver about 45 with her….young, what appeared to be son, about 16 in the front seat.  Windows in the car down and a stereo system probably worth more than the car.  (this is the judgmental part of me coming out in case you can’t tell.)  They had some boom boom crap going that was just unbelievably loud.  I looked around to see where it was coming from…..and when they saw me…it was like when you want to merge into traffic and the person who holds the space will pretend not to see you!!!  These cats pretended that they were the only ones on earth.   Stereo up…..and an older woman driving….the culprit.

I wanted to get out and  bust out their windshield.  I think I have a hidden anger problem.  Deep down.

So, I thought about them the entire drive home on south Nova road…for over 20 minutes….I seemed to get every red light…and have to listen to them.  I was hyper by the end and really agitated.  It is strange that I never thought about praying for them…..I just got mad.  You ever been like that?

So, I struggle with things that make me mad.  Boom boxes in cars is one of them.  Loud neighbors is another.  It just amazes me that I do not think, first, that God loves them the say way he loves me.  The same, unconditional way,….I may not have a loud stereo or may not be a bad neighbor….but I get mad….I harbor anger toward others,….I am judgmental.  I guess my stereo is loud but just within me.

I am glad God loves me….I wonder if he wants to bust my windshield sometimes?

As fotos que vocês vêem agora foram clicadas num dos poucos ensolarados domingos de agosto. Pra tornar a coisa mais interessante, desencanamos de usar modelos profissionais. Optamos por dois dançarinos de break. A ideia era fazer um contraponto entre a rigidez do material com os movimentos dessa dança surgida nas ruas de Nova York em meados da década de 70.

Como cenário, nada mais coerente do que as ruas de São Paulo. A primeira parada foi a praça Roosevelt, um lugar muuuito bacana e, infelizmente, esquecido pelo poder público. O segundo cenário é a “laje” de um edifício na Bela Vista, que possibilitou um visual bem urbano, cheio de prédios… A cara do Descolex! A Ivy Folha, fotógrafa talentosa e amiga querida, é quem assina o trabalho, incluindo o tratamento das imagens, que ganharam um fundo com cara de foto antiga, pra remeter à época em que a dança surgiu. Como nos outros editoriais, esse é mais um trabalho feito com muito carinho e dedicação de uma equipe enorme, que adora inventar moda. Meus agradecimentos a todos que ajudaram na maquiagem, na produção, no styling, nas fotos de making of, na procura dos “modelos” e das locações… Vocês são demais! Espero que você goste e deixe seu comentário. Saber no que acertamos e, principalmente, erramos faz a gente aprender e melhorar nosso trabalho cada vez mais.

The Lasonic ghetto blaster is great because it has that 70’s retro feel to it while still allowing for iPod compatibility. It is a boom-box that has adjusted with the changing times to be a very nostalgic item. It doesn’t have to sound all that great or have the most versatile options because of what it is. All this boom-box has to do is play loud and clear and let the music do the rest.

Well I want one, it actually doesn’t have a tape deck, but instead you put your ipod in it and it is a full functioning boom box

I love it, how retro is this.

I remember the days of going to Geelong Picnic and the boys carrying these boom boxes around. Damn that was a long time ago.

Playing Euro Disco tunes from them. (tracks like: Meet my friend called Dick, Holiday (the rap mix), Boys Boys Boys, and so on)

You had to put 8-12 ‘D’ Sized batteries in it. You were lucky to get a couple of days use out of them.

But the joy it brought you, putting in your mix tape. Pressing Play & Record together, and strategically releasing the pause button at the start and end of each song you were recording.

Getting pissed off when the DJ would talk over the song, cos he was doing a shout out to one of his mates, or a caller from the western suburbs who wanted to dedicate the track to her Maria friends.

Staying up late night on a Friday or Sunday night, cos they were doing a live broadcast from a the Coal Club, Metro, Chasers, Warehouse or one of the many fantastic old clubs, and you wanted to get the fully sickest mix happening, and when you did all your mates wanted you to make a copy of it for them.

I was fortunate enough to own one with 2 tapes, so I could ‘DUB” (you guys remember that word) from tape to tape.

This morning Twista was on the radio the other day talking about his new record, Category F5, which dropped July 14th, and apparently got zero push considering it was the first I heard his album was coming out. I heard a few of his singles on my normal mix tape websites but as far as promotional ads, nope…wasn’t aware. Personally, I was eager to hear more of this recent work. To my surprise, Twista definitely reverted back to the old 1990’s Twista. Remember him? I have a video below from when he was 18 years old…killing the stage with his quick flow. Nowadays, he continues to keep it gutter and breezy with his witty rhymes and quick lyricism atop a slow tempo that I love the most.
