Boombastic. Boom Boom

!!½

1999, Nova Music

Ever since Levis began jacking for hits as musical accompaniment to geezer’s undressing down the laundrette and the claymation knight in blue denim with Shaggy’s Boombastic as the audio backdrop as well as audaciously assisting in making a hit of Mr Oizo’s Flat Beat. commercial advertising execs have been clambering over each other to find ways for us to part with our hard earned cash for random product with strategic use of either readily packaged commercial hits or on the other hand creating hits themselves by including new and unsung or forgotten music in innovative and entertaining ads.

Don Thomas’s Come On Train has been reworked by Ian Parton in a manner which isn’t offensive to the original and plays score to the new much hyped and youtube’d Visa Flow commercial. I am somebody who loves those moments when I’ve got up during an ad break to go make myself a cup of tea and I hear something that just get’s your head nodding previous to this ad I ran back into the living room in order to check out what was going on on the box when I heard Joss Stone singing L.O.V.E. while working at the tea station and the drum playing gorilla that sold the world chocolat and more copies of In The Air Tonight.

The really dope thing about this Visa Flow advert is they have achieved that feat of making the sound and the visuals work very well in tandem as in the time constraints of a commercial you just don’t get to hear enough of the track prompting the question “what tune is this?” it makes you wanna call up all your beat nerd friends like “yo you seen that Visa advert with the dude on the crutches the beat is fonky”. On first hearing it I also had no idea wether this track was old or new as it fits very nicely with the current crop of throwback sounds I wondered very much wether this was another Mark Ronson creation but on finding out who it actually was and checking the original I had to applaud Ian Parton on keeping this close to the original in fact I am not really sure what has been done bar some slight drum changes, the horns are still there as they should be and no addition of really pooey rapping thus avoiding a similar shock to when I first heard the original track sampled in Madcon’s Beggin’ and finding out they had just fucked up a perfectly good track though I should probably thank them for bringing the cut in question to the attention of Adidas. The commercial stars Bill “The Crutch Master” Shannon who laughs in the face of disability, able to navigate pretty much any landscape through a combination of nifty footwork a mastery of the use of crutches which allows him to appear as if he is gliding around on little skates and he is also pretty sick when actually on a skateboard.

Long time fans of Bill are are probably sat around going man he’s made it whilst people seeing him for the first time in this commercial will be instant fans of him and Come On Train.

Let’s see…what’s new in the great wide world of Azeroth?

Well, I got all of the Winter Veil achievements completed and I can now be Merrymaker Boombastic when the mood strikes. Yay!

I was also able to purchase two badge epics…Lillehoff’s Winged Blades and Mirror of Truth. I was going to try to save up for the off-hand dagger, but those badges were burning a hole in my backpack, lol.

And I went on a Horde City Raid attempting to get the For the Alliance! achievement, but the Horde were waiting for us at Thrall, so that’s the only boss that I need for the Black War Bear. I’m guessing it will be awhile before I’ll get a shot at it again, since my guild is much too small for a Horde City raid. Oh well, the other three bosses were fun…and pretty tough!

Here’s a picture of my screen during the raid, lol!

I really need a new UI, but haven’t put the time or effort into downloading all the components and setting one up. The thing about this picture that cracks me up is the list of buffs in the upper right hand corner. I don’t think my character has ever been that buffed before, lol!

I could say that I’m surprised at people for taking advantage of other people during the holid

I could say that I’m surprised at people for taking advantage of other people during the holiday season, but I guess I can’t honestly say that since it happens all the time in this game.

Some of us like to complete achievements, some don’t. Some people like to post [Small Egg] on the AH for 15g per egg to cash in on people trying to make Gingerbread Cookies for Greatfather Winter without wanting to farm the mats.

There is but one phrase to describe this type of person:

G-G-G-GRINCHY BRAT!

Ugh.

Alright, maybe that’s harsh, we all need to make gold to sustain our characters in the game, but 5g for [Small Egg] seems pricey enough, but 15g?! Redonkulous.

I finished all of the achievements the day after Winter Veil started, except for the 25 crashes with the Crashin’ Thrashin’ Racer and wearing a full set of Winter Veil clothes and eating fruitcake.

I had a Winter Hat, it was a green one, from a boss in LBRS years ago. Pre Echoes of Doom patch, I was cleaning out my bags and got rid of a lot of crap I didn’t think I wanted or needed – like Brewfest Steins and the hat. Well, imagine my surprise when I saw the achievements required those items and I just just disposed of them after they sat idle in my bank for years.

I petitioned a GM to get them back, but unfortunately, (and typically) they told me there was nothing they could do to restore the items, even though they had only been “deleted” for about a week.

So…I got a Red Winter Hat from the Blood Elf Crazy Mage boss in Nexus Heroic anyway, but what a pain in the ass those GMs can be. I think over the course of the last four years, I’ve talked to two GMs who were nice and who tried to be helpful, but still didn’t do what I was asking. So anyway, I got a group together, and yeah I got rep, but I also got the stupid hat that I’ll never wear again because on human females it looks SO dumb!! As soon as I won it, I put all the clothes on, and immediately sat down and ate the stupid fruitcake for the 10 achievement points, put all my gear back on and finished the instance. That’s probably the last time I’ll use that hat unless they fix the damn thing and the way it looks on my character. The hat fits my Human Warrior boyfriend just fine, but on me, it just sits on top of my head and looks r-tarded. It changes the color of my hair and everything.

For your viewing pleasure, here’s what I’ma gabbin’ about:

Of course, I’m sworn to silence on the matter and can’t link the awesomeness that ensues when you follow his advice, but you can take it from me that right after I respec’ed and tried the new rotation, I wanted to yell from the top of the mountain in Ironforge: “OH YEAH BABY BOOMBA’S BACK!”

I had spent so many frustrating hours researching what the hell the problem was that when it was finally fixed and I realized that I only had myself to blame cause I had the spec and rotation wrong, I was so relieved! It’s been a long time since I played the Rogue in PVE and I kinda figured I was gimping myself. So, now my life in Azeroth is all roses and smiles again………..and Horde deaths of course.

Friday was a good day. I came home from having lunch with my boyfriend to find two packages waiting patiently for my arrival.

One was my Figure Print! I ordered it on 11/10 and it came on 12/5…not bad. I thought I was going to have to wait for a few months for it. It certainly is cool to have a 3D print of my character sitting on my desk now! I’m amazed at how sharp the edges of my daggers are, how pointy my shoulders are, and how those delicate details weren’t damaged in shipping!

Truth be told, up close my character’s face kinda looks like a trainwreck. Her lipstick is smeared all over and her eyes are overcolored and you can’t see her eyepatch like you can in the screenshot. She also looks like a man up close…which I’m not thrilled about, but it’ll be ok. Cause eventually instead of having it sitting on the desk next to me, I’ll have her up on a shelf and then I won’t get to see her up close anyway, lol.

The second thing I got in the mail was my Plush Stuffed Talking Murloc! You squeeze his mouth and he does the “Mmmgrrlgrlglglglgl” sound. It’s awesome! The dog hates it (which I anticipated), but it’s still a lot of fun – I was doing it over Ventrilo last night. They’re available on Jinx.com – kinda pricey for a stuffed animal, but totally worth it in my opinion, lol.

I’ve been really pissed with my Rogue lately. My hit rating is next to nothing (68 with full DPS gear, 151 with gear swapping that nerfs my crit and AP) and I’m missing ALL THE TIME. About 18% of the time at 151 hit, as a matter of fact. We decided to try Nexus Heroic last night and while we completed it, it was a tie between me and the Protection Warrior for the last spot on DPS. I’m ready to delete the character. We’ve had some good times, but I got addicted to DPS on my Mage and I just can’t stand seeing myself performing so poorly on my oldest character that I know how to play…or at least that I thought I knew how to play.

I know they made some changes to class mechanics…but damn. I was beat by the Affliction Lock by 9%! And the Hunter by 7. It’s not really a gear issue as we’re all in the same boat gear wise. Using instance drops, rep rewards, crafted 80 items, and quest rewards…according to WoW Heroes (I think that site is a load of shit personally) I’m the second highest geared member in my guild…so what’s the haps?! How am I not DPS’ing like the 2nd highest geared member. Maybe it’s time to hang up the daggers for good…I just don’t know.

I spent a lot of time this weekend researching gear, hit rating, shadowpanther.net – and before I swapped my gear for more hit rating, I was wearing the best stuff I could be before epics and Heroics according to shadowpanther.

I was so frustrated, I started leveling my 70 Holy Priest. I don’t know if I’ll bother continuing to do dailies on Boomba for upgrades…she might just be my PVP character and PVE is just not in her cards. I really want to heal – I should’ve leveled Bayloo the Priest first, then Powderpuff the Mage for DPS, and lastly Boomba for 80 PVP. But that’s all in the past now. Being DPS is fun, but not when you’re getting your ass kicked on DPS by the Prot Warrior because he has all kinds of fun new shiny AOE effects to up the damage. And I have Fan of Knives…rofl. What a joke. It might hit for 600 points of damage, if I’m lucky…and a 10 second cooldown to boot. The Warlock in the run has Seed of Corruption, the Hunter had a new improved Volley, and I get to throw some tiny semi-sharp blades every 10 seconds?! Nice………I’m usually not a member of the ZOMGBUFFMEPLXBLIZZARD squad, but I’m really not feeling the love for Rogues lately. I’ve been Assassination daggers since Level 55 (2004/2005) and I don’t want to be Subtlety or Combat. I want to be viable in PVE with the gear that I have and with the spec I have now…and maybe less button mashing (Stacking 3 Hunger for Blood before every pull is a GIANT pain in the ass! And oh no macro for you because it triggers the Global Cooldown, doh!) if that’s not too much to ask.

In summation:
All of the opportunities to do AOE in these new instances + all of the whirlwinds that the bosses do that I have to run away from and just let Rupture and Poisons tick off until I get back into the fight + my shitting hit rating + being told that I’m the second highest geared member and getting out DPS’ed or equaled in DPS by the Prot Warrior = A Really Sad and Pissed Off Rogue >:(

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Korvik and Starbucks…without whom none of this would have been possible.

We pulled a few 12-13 hour WoW days and while most of it was fun, it’s easy to get burned out when you’re putting in those kinds of hours together pushing as fast as you can to hit 80. (Not having rested XP sucks.)

Now Kor and Boom get to kick back in A Hero’s Welcome in Dalaran, shine their blades, and wait for the rest of the guild to hit 80 while they talk about their favorite quests.

Next to 80? The Priest! Or maybe the Mage! Or maybe a Death Knight on my brother’s server!

$150 and about 5 minutes later, the shot to the left is the computer rendered version of the print I will receive whenever I receive it. They didn’t provide me with an estimated delivery date (Awesomeness takes time, whatcha gonna do?) and the shipping alone was $20 because the print is so fragile.

I’m going to need to install some shelves above my computer desk so I can display this little slice of ubergeekdom when it arrives! I’m hoping to get a talking Murloc for Christmas as well, so he’ll need a place to sit on the shelf too!

I know I’ll be taking pictures of the real thing when it comes. I’ve invoked some major vibes of jealousy from the gamers at work for winning the raffle to create the print…gonna have to bring it to work at least once just to show it off….mwuahahahaha!

I must admit…my girl looks B.A.D.A.S.S!

So, I signed up for the FigurePrint raffle two months ago. The first month I got an email stating that regretfully I didn’t win. This month, I got the email congratulating me that I was chosen to order a FigurePrint!

FigurePrints are pretty cool “printed” versions of your WoW character that are pulled directly from the Blizzard servers. I’m not really sure how it works, but from what I’ve read, it seems that the figure is made from dust glued together with colored glue. The detail seems to be excellent and I’m pretty geeked that I get to order one…well, that was until I found out the price of one of these bad boys. They are $129 + shipping, which turns out to be about $150.

I have until 11/23 to place my order and my Rogue, Boombastic, is ready for her close up. All of her gear is a mish-mash from Karazhan, Heroics, PvP, and crafted pieces and amazingly enough it all matches very nicely! A long time ago, I had a friend of mine draw a picture of my character in her 60 gear and I love the picture. So, I know that I will love the FigurePrint once I get over the $150 pricetag.

The glass dome does not come off of the base – to protect the very fragile character inside. A lot of people seem to be complaining about the colors appearing “washed out” – the thing is made from dust/sand…I think that’s expected. Also, you get to choose from 12 different poses, which is cool! It even has your character’s name on the base!

I’m the third person in my guild to win the raffle. The first was a Draenei Hunter and second was a Night Elf Hunter. I’m planning to enter my boyfriend into the raffle too so he has a shot at getting his character made as well.

I’ve decided to go with an eyepatch (like the picture of my character that was drawn for me – even though currently she’s wearing the Merciless Gladiator PVP Helm of Awesomeness. The Helm is super cool, but hides her face too much. A lot of Rogues on my server have the helm and I want her to be easily identified as my girl.

Also, I’ve decided to go sans guild tabard. I love my guild, but the tabard is blue and gold and doesn’t match my black/red/purple gear…not to mention the fact that the design on the tabard is a chevron and it looks all screwed up on female toons because of their boobage issues. I really hope one day Blizzard fixes tabards on casters too. Why does it have to look like their tabard is tucked into the bottom half of their robe? It just looks whack.

I’ll be sure to upload the pictures here once I get my character!
