What would a resort stay experience be without a pool? Unthinkable for today’s travelers. They’ve come a long way, playing a central role in creating a distinctive experience and the common denominator as a social hub. Integral to a hotel’s brand identity. Here’s a glance at some of world’s most gorgeous resort pools, sharing the same traits regardless of their locale: sexy and chic!

Odwiedza Tahiti, Bora Bora, Nową Zelandię, Australię, a także Tonga, Niue, Alaskę i wreszcie Hawaje, gdzie kapitan w tragiczny sposób zakończył swoją wędrówkę.

<img class=" " title="210px-Captainjamescookportrait" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/76/Captainjamescookportrait.jpg/475px-Captainjamescookportrait.jpg" alt="James Cook.

Jeszcze niedawno starodawne wierzenia i zachowania były tępione.

Bora Bora Bora Bora has often been called the world’s most beautiful island. It comprises one

Bora Bora

Bora Bora has often been called the world’s most beautiful island.
It comprises one main island of 29sq-km, roughly the shape of a seahorse, with white-sand beaches and surrounded by a coral reef and strings of “motus” (islets); resident population is about 6,000.
In between lies a lagoon of breathtakingly-brilliant colours, from turquoise to deep blue.
In the jungled hills of the interior, volcanic mountains named Otemanu (727m high) and Pahia (661m) dominate the skyline.
At Bora Bora’s airport, located on Motu Mote, a fleet of boats waits to transport incoming tourists to their resort hotels, many of which offer “over the-water” bungalows with glass panels in the floors providing mesmerizing views of the fish swimming below.
The five-star resorts on tropical Bora Bora are exclusive and expensive, popular with celebrities – Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban honeymooned at the St Regis where they occupied the palatial 1,208sq-m “royal estate” for four nights priced at $US15,000 ($A16,374) a night.
But the island also has “pensions” (French for guest-houses), and other cheaper accommodation.
Among activities for tourists are sailing in the lagoon where Polynesian guides introduce them to feeding (small, reef, friendly) sharks and playing with stingrays, also diving, snorkeling and boating of all kinds.
On land there are 4WD safaris into the interior for some splendid ocean views and to visit some of the 50 ancient “maraes,” holy places where Polynesians once prayed and made sacrifices to their gods.
Or try helicopter flights around the mountains, reefs and beaches.
The airport and tourism in French Polynesia generally, owe much to the events of World War II.
On many inland tours on this peaceful and laid-back tropical island, you come across a reminder of war: Two deactivated seven-inch (17.8cm) cannons, still aimed at possible invaders by sea, remain on a hillside where eight of them were installed after Bora Bora became an American base early in 1942, just weeks after the US was propelled into World War II by the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor in Honolulu.
Having sustained grave losses to its Pacific fleet, Washington needed a South Pacific military and refueling base – and the French agreed with their new war ally that it should be Bora Bora.
One significant reason was that there is only one opening in the reef allowing ships through to the main island, making it easy to detect any Japanese submarine raiders (who never came).
A US armada arrived on February 17 1942 with 4,450 men and 178 officers in two troop carriers plus two cruisers, two destroyers, two cargo boats and one tanker – greeted enthusiastically by the Polynesian population in outrigger canoes, who suddenly found themselves outnumbered by five-to-one.
The Americans found a lovely but primitive island with no roads, no airstrip and an inadequate water supply.
They installed a water system, built a sealed road around the island and constructed and filled 30 fuel tanks.
As well, they completed French Polynesia’s first airstrip, with a 2km-long runway, in April 1943.
(Papeete’s Faa’a international airport did not open until 1962.)
The two most visible remaining cannons, their barrels nearly 7m long, are a favorite target for tourists’ cameras along with Mount Otemanu, which seems to appear as background in almost every snapshot taken on Bora Bora, be they on or away from the beaches.
Something else the GIs reportedly left behind when they left early in 1946: at least 68 children babies born to local girls.
The recently-released Hollywood movie Couples Retreat, mostly filmed on Bora Bora, has been given a mixed reception by critics in Australia and America, but many of them agreed on one point: that the real star is the island of Bora Bora.
The island, called Earth’s most beautiful by the late author James Michener and scores of others, was never identified during the film, and was only given a mention at the foot of the final list of credits.
Universal Studios booked the entire St Regis Resort for four weeks during the shoot, renaming it the Eden Resort for the occasion, then took 50 American journalists to Bora Bora shortly before the premiere.
(St Regis says it offers package holidays but none for people with marital problems like the four holidaying couples in the movie – and there’s no special hedonistic island for singles there, either.)
A number of other movies have been shot in and around Bora Bora over the past 80 years, notably the three versions of the Mutiny on The Bounty story.
The star of the 1962 film, the late Marlon Brando, fell in love with Tahiti and her islands while here on location, married a Polynesian woman, bought his own small island and was a frequent visitor to Bora Bora.
The Sofitel Resort’s bar is named after, and is decorated with photographs of, the 1969 film Hurricane starring Jason Robards and Mia Farrow.
Bora Bora’s tourism people are grateful for the publicity generated by Couples Retreat, having suffered along with the other holiday islands of the South Pacific due to the world economic meltdown which saw overseas visitor arrivals in French Polynesia slump by 22.7 per cent to 87,929 for the first seven months of this year; two resorts are closed.
Australian figures were down 39.8 per cent to 2,337 while New Zealanders were 28.2 per cent fewer at 1,074.
The Australian figures may also have been affected by Air Tahiti Nui’s decision last April to suspend its direct Sydney-Papeete flights; Australians can now go to Auckland on a Qantas flight code-shared with Air Tahiti Nui, then change to the Tahiti airline’s New Zealand-Papeete service.
But there’s hope that the direct Sydney-Papeete flights will be resumed soon – Tourism Minister Jacqui Drollet made this one of the priorities in a recent statement outlining plans for 2010, along with promotions in countries such as Australia, the US and Brazil. The Sidney Morning Herald writer James Shrimpton smh.com.au

Atjazz ft Clyde – Please you [Piesa de azi] Urasc zilele innorate, cand e frig de iti ingheata

Atjazz ft Clyde – Please you [Piesa de azi]

Utána rohantunk este 9-re megint a Borárosra, ahol Eryk várt minket, akivel ádám szülinapjára mentünk a Bora Bora nevű Billiárd szalonba, ahol állítólag asztalt foglaltattak. Eryk mire a Borárosra értünk, részegen kóvájgott.

Köszönöm a csajoknak, Krityának, Zsoltinak, Betty apujának stb. De sjanálom, hogy nem volt ott Dancsi:(

For an unprecedented 15th time, Maui captured “Best Island in the World” honors in the 22nd annual C

For an unprecedented 15th time, Maui captured “Best Island in the World” honors in the 22nd annual CONDE NAST TRAVELER Readers’ Choice Awards Poll. With a score of 90.1, Maui was also voted “Best Pacific Island” for the 19th consecutive year. Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares said receiving the recognition this year is especially significant in light of challenging economic conditions.

File photo of Maui's 'Iao Valley - a popular visitor destination. By Wendy Osher.

“In partnership with many sectors of our community, our visitor industry leaders and their employees have continued to hold in high regard the values of our host culture, our island’s own unique character and the magnificence of our natural environment. This is an honor that reflects the commitment of our visitor industry to offer their very best to our island guests,” said Mayor Tavares.

Completing the “Top Ten” were: 5th place Moorea (83.5); 6thplace Hawai’i Island (83.0); 7th place O‘ahu (81.7); 8th place Lāna‘i (79.8); 9th place Galapagos (76.6) and 10th place Tazmania (76.5). Other top island destinations in the world included winners in the following geographical categories: Asia (Maldives, 87.5), Caribbean (Bermuda, 81.3), North America (Kiawah, 79.9) and Europe (Mykonos and the Cyclades, 77.3).

Of the publication’s “Top Hawai‘i Resorts”, four of the top five were Maui Nui properties including: 1. Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea; 3. Four Seasons Resort Lāna‘i, The Lodge at Kō‘ele; 4. Hotel Hāna Maui and Honua Spa; and 5. Four Seasons Resort Lāna‘i at Mānele Bay. (Four Seasons Resort Hualālai on Hawai‘i Island ranked second).

Other Maui properties ranked at the top included: #9 Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui; #12 Grand Wailea; #14 Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua; #15 Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa and #20 Westin Maui Resort & Spa. In total, Maui Nui captured nine of the “Top 20” spots.

Behind Maui in the “Best Pacific Island” category, was sister island Kaua‘i, which placed second with a score of 87.8. Bora Bora ranked third with 84.9 and the Great Barrier Reef’s 84.0 score was enough for 4th place.

Maui’s score of 90.1 once again surpassed all other top destinations worldwide beating out every single “Best City” category winner including Australia/Pacific (Sydney, 86.9), U.S. (San Francisco, 84.8), Europe (Florence, 84.6), Asia (Ubud, 82.5), Africa (Capetown, 82.4) and The Americas (Vancouver, 82.3).

“As destinations everywhere continue to endure challenging times, Maui has been able to capture the hearts and minds of treasured visitors from all across the globe,” stated Terryl Vencl, executive director, Maui Visitors Bureau.

“We are truly blessed with stunning natural beauty and our cherished host culture while the gracious aloha of our residents continues to entice and inspire,” said Vencl.

She concluded, “this prestigious honor is yet again testament to Maui’s visitor industry and most importantly, the people of our beloved island home.”

CONDE NAST TRAVELER reported, “The Pacific Ocean is the ratings powerhouse. Of ten islands that score above 80, seven are Oceania and four are Hawaiian led – as usual, by Maui.” During the awards ceremony held Thursday evening in New York City before a crowd of hundreds, Maui was introduced as “the perennial favorite.”

The magazine’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards poll analyzes the travel preferences of their readership in various categories including cities, islands, airlines, cruise lines, hotels, spas, resorts and rental cars. Ratings are based on the responses of CONDE NAST TRAVELER subscribers who participated in the 22nd annual poll. More than 25,000 readers participated this year and complete results are published in the November 2009 issue, which arrives on newsstands later this month.

“Maui nō ka ‘oi!” or “Maui is the Best!” is a common Hawaiian refrain. World-class resorts, award winning cuisine, championship golf, staggering natural beauty and the islands’ host Hawaiian culture have propelled Maui into the limelight.

Malin Akerman (center) realizes her love scenes are with Vince Vaughn while her co-stars pretend not

Malin Akerman (center) realizes her love scenes are with Vince Vaughn while her co-stars pretend not to notice her discomfort.

(Universal) Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Jean Reno, Faizon Love, Kali Hawk, Carlos Ponce, Peter Serafinowicz, Tasha Smith, Temuera Morrison, Jonna Walsh. Directed by Peter Billingsley

Relationships require a lot of work and even with that, none are ever perfect. Sometimes we have problems with our mates that we didn’t even know we had.

Dave (Vaughn) is a happily married video game salesman (specializing in Guitar Hero) who has a nice suburban Chicago home, two mostly well-behaved kids (although one has a tendency to use just about anything as his personal toilet) a stressful job that demands long hours, and a gorgeous, loving wife (Akerman) named Ronnie who is completely absorbed in remodeling their home. He is less enthusiastic about the project and this has brought some tension to the marriage.

His best buddy is Joey (Favreau), who married Lucy (Davis) just out of high school after he got her pregnant. They show a united front to the world, especially when their daughter Lacey (Walsh) attempts to leave the house in the middle of winter dressed like a hooker, but in reality they can’t stand each other and plan to divorce as soon as Lacey leaves for Stanford. In the meantime, they are cheating on each other as much as they can.

Shane (Love) is already divorced and dating Trudy (Hawk), a much younger model wannabe. He’s going through a big time midlife crisis, but is having some financial troubles after his wife Jennifer (Smith) soaked him in the divorce. He asks his buddy Dave to co-sign on a loan to buy a motorcycle, which Dave refuses at first but eventually gives in when Shane opens up and tells him how much he needs it on a personal level. Dave’s an enabler that way.

Finally there’s Jason (Bateman) and his wife Cynthia (Bell) who seem perfect for each other. So anal they make squeaking noises when they walk, they have had difficulty conceiving a child. This has caused strain so severe on their marriage they are considering a divorce, a fact they reveal to their friends in a PowerPoint presentation (squeak, squeak, squeak). They intend to give their marriage one last-ditch effort at the beautiful Eden resort in the South Pacific, where they will have the opportunity to jet ski and learn couples skill building at the same time.

The others aren’t so enthusiastic about going, although their interest is piqued when Jason and Cynthia promise them they don’t have to do any of the touchy-feely stuff. Dave’s objection is that he can’t really get away from work and that they couldn’t get anyone to watch the kids anyway, but when his kids beg him to go and even call his dad to babysit, Dave and Cynthia – who had skipped their honeymoon when Dave got a job offer – decided to take advantage of the opportunity.

Once there they fall under the ministrations of the smarmy concierge Sctanley (yes, that’s how he spells it) and the new age guru Marcel (Reno) who is something of a whiz kid at rescuing marriages. Once there, they realize that all the fun stuff is located in the singles side of the island to which they are forbidden to go, and that all of them had to partake of the skill building sessions. As they go through therapy, cracks in the facades of all their relationships begin to appear until it becomes evident that none of them may leave Problem Island with their marriages intact.

Vaughn co-wrote and co-produced this epic with his buddy Favreau, and if you like either one of their onscreen personas in previous movies like Swingers and Wedding Crashers, you’ll want to see this. Vaughn gets most of the great one-liners (the advantage of being your own producer and writer) and he delivers them seamlessly, Vince Vaughn-style.

It seems odd that the three middle aged flabby guys all have super hot wives (Akerman, Bell and Davis all look pretty spectacular in bikinis) and Love, who is a bit of a behemoth, has essentially a 20-year-old supermodel doing the nasty with him in oh-so-nasty ways. However, this is Hollywood and I suppose anything is possible.

The cast is really solid and they all are given characters that give them at least something to latch onto as actors, and they’re all good enough to take advantage of it. It’s too bad the script couldn’t have given them a better story. While the concept is solid, the way they get from beginning to end is pretty weak. I think they would have benefited from a little more realism and maybe the knowledge that not every marriage works out okay should have been introduced. The whole notion of love conquering all is mainly a Hollywood invention and nobody really believes it anymore. While I’m sure studio executives were anxious for everyone to end up happy and in love, the movie would have been better if they hadn’t.

Filmed at the St. Regis resort in Bora Bora, one of the most beautiful places in the world, it’s a great-looking film. The bottom line is whether or not it’s funny. The answer is, yeah for the most part. There are some moments that fall flat, and some of the writing seems a bit forced into making a Hollywood happy ending. The underlying message is that as long as the sex is good, so is the marriage which doesn’t really ring true. Still, there are enough laughs for me to recommend this slightly. It’s not as horrible as other critics are making it out to be; it’s just slightly better than okay. Not a ringing endorsement I know, but the sandal definitely fits.

REASONS TO GO: Jennifer Garner’s best performance to date augments an intriguing premise. The movie has a good deal of heart and has at least one genuinely moving moment.

REASONS TO STAY: The romantic comedy aspect doesn’t work as well as the satire. Too many cameos spoil the broth.

FAMILY VALUES: Some PG sexual situations and one scene in which some self-pleasuring is implied; nothing really overt but you may want to think twice before bringing kids who are less aware of sex.

TRIVIAL PURSUIT: Couples Retreat marks the fourth movie that both Vaughn and Favreau have been in together.

HOME OR THEATER: Although some of the lovely shots of Bora Bora look gorgeous on the big screen, it works as well on the home screen.

FINAL RATING: 6/10

TOMORROW: The Reader

An overloaded cast can’t work through the issues of a flabby script and scattershot direction.

One of the most frequently heard gripes about American cinema the last couple of years is that adult movies – films made for grown-ups, about grown-up issues or at least matters relevant to audiences over 30 years old – are on the wane. It’s wondered if people who aren’t in college, or better yet high school, haven’t got the time to trek to a movie theatre and sit still for two hours. (Note to Hollywood: these days most of us are working too hard.) Films made for this demographic, the occasional romcom aside, don’t do as well as the superhero and vampire fluff that have become the studios’ meat and potatoes.

Certainly, marriage and parenthood are relevant, if not crucial, topics for “older” audiences, as are such ideas as romance and keeping some sense of youth and spontaneity alive once day-to-day living takes on a limitless routine. Life goes on, like the man said, long after the thrill of living is gone. Hollywood has a long and proud tradition of films addressing such quiet crises: The Big Chill, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, Two For The Road, The Ice Storm, and quite a few others all tackled its dangers. Notice that all of those films are dramas, however. Not one saw the lighter side of marital ennui and pre-midlife regret.

Just here to get lei'ed: the cast.

Couples Retreat could have been a smarter movie, a more mature film, and a sharper examination of the same topics if it tried harder than it does. But instead its script (co-written by stars Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau) too often panders to its presumed audience without ever really getting beneath the skin of the problems that lurk, like the lemon sharks of its lone suspense sequence, just beneath its surface. As with far too many major studio releases these days, the film takes pains to make sure the audience isn’t provoked into reflection, or into questioning the issues the characters only passingly mention they have. In lieu of that approach there’s too many lazy jokes, too much easy humor, too many cutesy-cute sitcommish gags about precious kids. It’s a safe film, from top to bottom and every frame between.

Uptight couple Jason and Cynthia (Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell) have hit a rough spot in their marriage, largely from their inability to have a child. Strapped for cash and desperate to make their marriage work, they approach five of their friends – two other couples and a recently-divorced male (Favreau and Kristin Davis, Vaughn and Malin Ackerman, Faizon Love) – with a group-rate package vacation to Eden, a tropical resort that doubles as therapeutic boot camp for troubled marriages. The couples agree, with Love’s hapless Shane bringing along his party-hardy 20-year old girlfriend Trudy (Kali Hawk). Once at the resort the couples’ plans for a vacation are foiled by resort regulations that demand they engage in therapy and communication skill-building sessions.

It’s only a little predictable, maybe, that each couple is in a different phase of disintegration: Favreau and Davis’ Joey and Lucy tolerate each other only until their teen daughter leaves for college; Vaughn and Ackerman’s Dave and Ronnie are just beginning to hit the skids; Shane and Trudy barely know each other. So far, so good, except each character takes their respective problem and amplifies it to ten. Part of the problem is that with so many characters, respective characterization gets lost in the shuffle: how can the audience keep up with everyone, unless they stand out? But it’s annoying nonetheless that each character has to go loud to be heard, and everyone’s behavior inevitably becomes childish and plot-focused. There’s very little sense these people know each other, past some laborious exposition dropped into a belabored first act.

There's more here for the guys to like...

Director Peter Billingsley keeps the plot moving, and again with so many characters there’s a lot to juggle. But individual scenes suffer as a direct result, with episodes trailing off and getting whisked from the viewer’s attention before they’ve reached their dramatic or comedic payoff. The result is an uneven middle and an too-tidy resolution that relies on too much convention, at least one out-of-left-field plot contrivance, and more than a little schlock. A film about adults in marital trouble doesn’t need one gag about a child using a sales floor demo toilet. The story in which two such jokes are necessary doesn’t exist.

... than there is for the ladies.

The cast, by and large, brings exactly what you’ve come to expect from them in other performances. Bateman and Bell are charming in their sunny respectability; Vaughn and Favreau are smart-assed and cranky. Davis is Charlotte York. Ackerman is charming and pretty, and seems vastly more comfortable than she appeared in Watchmen earlier this year. Love isn’t a bad actor, but watching his sad sack performance I couldn’t help but wish, and not for the first time, that Bernie Mac was still with us. Of the other cast members, Jean Reno is amusing as the resort’s spacey therapy guru, while Peter Serafinowicz does an effective Jonathan Pryce impression as the resort’s maitre ‘d.

Ultimately, it’s hard not to imagine this film as a better choice for a January or February release. It’s quality notwithstanding, all the sun and surf lovingly displayed will no doubt offer a welcome escape when winter is at its heaviest. That’s actually about the time the DVD should hit store shelves, so audiences with anything less than a compelling interest in the film would do well to wait until then.

Y claro, si te dicen the most beautiful island es que es the most beautiful island digo yo, no?. Pues no.

Llovía a raudales. No veíamos nada. Talula no podía adelantar camino.
