Back in California, it seemed like you couldn’t really head into any town and spin around a few times without smacking into a See’s Candies. This place… oh man. The standard white and black, the checkerboard around the “Open” sign, the smell when you walk in, the ladies in white nurse-y looking uniforms behind the counter offering you a little chocolate treats while you to plan out the day’s purchase… I could go on and on…

When we moved, amongst other things like, ahem, the lack of an ocean/in n out burgers/good mexican food, the serious absence of a nearby See’s Candies was befuddling. I kept thinking there was one tucked away in town somewhere that would pop up one day while we were driving around. But no. The fact is that the closest See’s Candies is 40 miles away from us. So on Friday, we took a little road trip, I made buddies with the lady behind the counter, and we walked away with a pound of Pecan buds, one bordeaux bar, and one of those Easter-only boxes of their delicious Rocky Road pressed into an egg shape.

Aside from being delicious (no really, I challenge you to find something in here you wouldn’t like), virtually all of the items See’s Candies sell are gluten free. As of today, other than their Candy Canes, Climber Canes, Puppet Candy Sticks, and Thanksgiving Chocolate Creams, if you are gluten or wheat intolerant, you are totally in the clear. Read more here.
