Vor einigen Monaten überraschte Micro Focus mit der Übernahme von Borland und der QM-Schiene von Compuware. Da sich bei beiden Zukäufen die Produktpaletten im Bereich Anforderungsmanagement, Testmanagement und Testautomatisierung überschneiden, war lange Zeit unklar, welche Werkzeuge in Zukunft weiterentwickelt werden. Am 18. November war es so weit: In einer Online-Präsentation stellte Micro Focus die zukünftige Produktstrategie vor. Und ich war live dabei.

Anforderungsmanagement

Basierend auf TeamDefine will Micro Focus eine neue RDM-Platform aufziehen. Für die Werkzeuge CaliberRM und  OptimalTrace wird eine Migration angeboten. Ein passiver Support wird den Caliber Define TM Kunden angeboten. Das Werkzeug Together wird weiterentwickelt.

Testmanagement

Beim Match um das zukünftige Testmanagementsystem stehen sich Borland SilkCentral und die beiden Werkzeuge von Compuware mit den Namen QADirector und CARS gegenüber. Als Sieger geht dabei SilkCentral von Borland hervor. Interessant sind die zukünftigen Entwicklungen: So soll der Ansatz des risikobasierten Testens von QADirector übernommen werden. Weiters soll eine Evolution beim anforderungsbasierten Testen erfolgen. Auch das lange erwartete Versionieren von Testobjekten soll zukünftig in SilkCentral vorhanden sein.  Weiters soll das Wiederverwenden von Testfällen erleichtert werden.

Testautomatisierung

Borland SilkTest und Compuware TestPartner sollen zukünftig in einem neuen SilkTest aufgehen. Von TestPartner soll aber lediglich die Idee der visualisierten Scriptsprache übernommen. Der Hauptteil des neuen SilkTest wird aber von Borland übernommen: Silk4J, Eclipse als Entwicklungsumgebung, die umfassende Logging- und Berichtsfunktion sind einige Stichwörter dazu. Neu dazukommen soll z. B. eine neue Skriptsprache.

Performancewerkzeuge

Auch bei den Performancetestwerkzeugen geht der Sieg an Borland. SilkPerformer wird weiterentwickelt und Compuware QALoad soll in einigen Jahren auslaufen. Eine Unterstützung für den Umstieg auf SilkPerformer soll aber angeboten werden.

Resümee

Es ist gut, dass jetzt Klarheit über die zukünftige Produktstrategie geschaffen wurde. Unter Kennern ist es keine Überraschung, dass die Produkte von Borland weiterentwickelt werden. Die Compuware Kunden werden aber nicht im Regen stehen gelassen. Die Werkzeuge werden noch einige Jahre weiter unterstützt und es wird meistens auch eine Migration auf die neuen Produkte angeboten. Migration und Erneuerung alter Systeme ist ja das Hauptgeschäft von Micro Focus.

Something that I saw today over the web, made me think about people sticking with old programs…

An example, programmers; Common among programmers is the C/C++ programming languages, and their compilers. Some compilers were (Past) popular so much, apparently, that some people use it until this day. Yes, I’m talking about Borland C/C++, or as you may know it, Turbo C++.

Turbo C++ was one of the most popular compilers for Windows/MS-DOS by the year 1990, which it was introduced in. Obviously many other compilers existed, but Turbo C was the most popular, if not the most widely used. I understand that some schools and universities are using it until toady, but isn’t it the time to dump it?

If the world was stuck on old programs, computers were not developed at all; who knows, maybe we were still stuck with 16-Bit systems? Especially, when there are so many better alternatives, why not dump it all?

*Quick stop:* What’s happening with Borland, anyways? I don’t think they have anymore Compilers, and I can’t believe they were stupid enough to sell Delphi to another company… They seem to change their entire subject to Team Management, or some sort of thing… Where is the good old Borland?

Well, I don’t think anyone will be needing Borland to product Compilers, anytime soon; There are so many alternatives, most of the are Free and Open-Source – and with the rise of Linux and Macintoshes – someone will have to deliver some cross-platform programs.

Obviously writing programs for Windows is a fun; the useful WinAPI’s are helping a lot – seems like Microsoft was investing in that kind of thing. But Linux, is a different story; GTK+, GTK# – I’m getting confused what, when and how should use. Linux is not mature enough to be a developer’s pet.

Now, to be fare, I’m not a Linux type of guy. I mean, I love Ubuntu, and I could’ve used it all the time, unless I needed to open up the terminal so much. In modern times, there is no good reason to a program to be updated through a command-line. Obviously a command line interface must be provided, but with a proper GUI.

So, what do you think…?

This title reminds me of my middle school life and my calssmates,the pascal integrated development environment by Borland always use “noname_*” as the default name for your program.

Today I heard that someone will leave us soon.Althought I’m not very close to the one I still feel quite sad. The one will always reminds me of the inportance of sticking at studing and I feel I still have a long long way to go.

When you have a lot of things to do, you will feel that the time went by very fast. But a bunch of students,the majority of them are local students.They seems to be so happy everyday  as to shout and laugh  loudly outside their friends’ room which is the room besides mine after 1:30A.M. ,after midnight. The tenth-rate character of local students is their wretched laugh,especially when there are more than three of them and last night I got more than 30 of them outside my door.

Singapore is not big so that it needs talents from other countries but a subsection of  local students seem to be unhappy with that. Undeniably, they discriminate international students, at the same time ,my IEM course mates are very nice person.I cannot understand why people’s attitude can be so different.

Some of you might be in Class XI/XII in India studying C++ and being forced to use the ancient Turbo C++ software. Many new C++ IDEs are available but they won’t compile the old-format code. If you want a break from the shitty software use Relo. It looks like a 21st century product and supports everything normal (like Cut-Copy-Paste) which wasn’t in TC++.

1. Download the Borland C++ 5.5 Compiler and install it. (UPDATE: Try my mirror link if you get stuck up in the sign-up process.)

2. Download Relo IDE and install it. During installation, it will ask you for the path to the compiler (usually C:\Borland\BCC55\Bin\bcc32.exe)

3. After installation, open Relo, go to Tools —> Options –> Project and check “Add compiler inc/lib directory”

4. That’s it!! You’re set!! Click on the arrow beside the new file icon and select C++ to create a new file

UPDATE: If you face any compiler-related problems, make sure your Tools –> Options—> Project window and the subsequent “Edit Compiler” window match the ones shown below.

И всё таки давайте хоть чуть-чуть затроним тему программирования, ведь как ни как я программист. Хочу поговорить о таких средах программирования как Borland Delphi и Borland C++ Builder. Думаю, что многие знакомы с этими продуктами и сразу смело выскажут своё мнение. Но для начала выскажу и я своё!

Самый первый язык программирования, который я начал учить – это Pascal (я имею в виду из прикладного программирования), соответственно за ним последовала и Delphi. Поэтому делфу я изучаю порядка 8 лет. За это время насмотрелся там на многое и встречал не мало различных недочётов. Но всё же Delphi мне по прежнему нравится (хотя сейчас немного устал от неё). Всё таки разработчики этой среды неплохо постарались и сделали что-то действительно неплохое. Вот говорят ещё, что Delphi 2009 неплохая система, но я не знаю, поскольку так ещё её и не юзал. Наверное многие хотят меня поправить?! Поскольку с каких-то пор Delphi стала считаться не средой разработки, а отдельным языком. Если кто-то не верит, то загляните в википедию, там вся инфа есть. Я сам был в шоке и до сих пор не охотно в это верю. Ну да ладно, это их проблемы.

Теперь перейдйм к C++ Builder… Мдя… Сказать хочется много, но вот цензура не позволяет. Более или менее серъёзно я начал работать с этой системой в прошлом году и буквально на второй день работы я понял, что нет ничего хуже, чем билдер. Вот если над делфой разработчики хорошо потрудились, то на C++ Builder они много сил не тратили. Такой отстой я давно уже не встречал. Блин, я даже не знаю, что ещё тут можно написать. Вроде бы всё уже сказано. Реально, столько багов, недоделок, косяков и прочей ерунды, не дающей спокойно работать.. Слов нет!

Поэтому, Друзья, если Вы мучаетесь с C++ Builder, то лучше бросьте это дело и поставьте себе MS Visual Studio – самый классный вариант! И программируйте себе спокойно хоть на C++, хоть на C#…

А теперь мне бы хотелось услышать Ваше мнение относительно этих двух систем. Что Вы думаете по этому поводу?! Какие куръёзы у Вас случались?! Ну и вообще, любые Ваши мысли об этом!

Ах да, ещё бы мне хотелось услышать, что Вы думаете относительно того, что Delphi теперь это отдельный язык программирования?!

Já faz um tempo que tenho este blog mas nunca achei um assunto interessante para falar aqui.
mas agora encontrei e apartir de hoje falaremos de COBOL. É isto mesmo, COBOL, esta linguagem tão conhecida e amada por mim e por muitos.
Apartir de hoje irei postar video aulas a principio sobre cobol básico e dialog system mas de acorco com as perguntas que forem chegando eu postarei outras video-aulas. Não somente em COBOL mas em DELPHI, JAVA e MySql.

Então agora é so esperar.

I haven’t been posting a lot recently because with the launch of the iPhone OS 3.0, the WordPress App isn’t working too well for me and I’ve just been lazy.

Here’s what I have written on my iPod Touch for this post:
“I have finally finished the feature of allowing the user to delete a record from the file.
It basically loops through the file and copies the information from the OrderFile to the TempOrderFile. If the OrderNumber matches the one selected in the ComboBox, it ignores that information. It then erases all the information in the OrderFile and then copies the information back over.
Before this, I was trying arrays which was an absolute nightmare because it was only taking information from the last position =.=
Need to work on the graphs now and someone suggested that I should add a feature so they can see how much money they spent in the month and how much they made in the month so they can see how much they owe in tax.
For now, this is version 0.7!”

Now, a version 0.9 exists =D

I was able to make the graphs but I was not able to make them as originally planned (Month, Year with amount of orders in that time) but I have two charts which show the amount of order received in each month (no matter the year) and the amount of completed orders in each month(again, no matter the year).

After that, I made an entire page for the financial side. The user can submit information regarding how much they spent and gained in a month of a specific year. This is then shown on a grid to the left. The user can also alter the amount of a specific entry (just in case they entered it wrong), they can search the file in 3 different ways (by month, by year or by month and year) and they can also delete a record from the file. There are also two graphs on the page. One shows Money In, the other shows Money Out. This reads the file and each bars title is the [Month, Year] used and the amount is the money in/out used.

This is currently version 0.9. If I can get the order graphs sorted then it’ll be version 1.0. We shall see…

If you have installed Starteam Client on your machine and if you are getting these annoying messages during startup of Visual Studio that says something like

“No Interface Found”  -or-

“<ProjectName> not found in Source Control” or something to this effect

And if you don’t intend to configure starteam as your source control with Visual Studio then just un-install “Starteam SCC Integration” package.

Finally, progress has been made. The user is now able to change the status of an order to Complete and I made another box for changing the status to Incomplete (just in case something happens). I’ve been working on allowing the user to be able to delete records from the file but it is proving to be a pain. =/ still, I have all day tomorrow to work on it =]

Made no progress today but had a bit of a scare as the form on my USB stick corrupted (did some work at Alyssa’s house) but luckily I still had the code so it was just a case of altering the form I had at home. Damn thing scared me =.= lol

Alyssa is going to be starting a costume company where she will take requests from customers to make a custom costume.
She has asked me to make a program where she can keep track of what orders are complete and incomplete. It’s similar to my Computing Coursework but with a few changes and added bits.
I have programmed the edit boxes to write to the file and alter the stringgrid so that the information is displayed. When she enters the information, the order number, month the order was received and the year the order was received is automatically altered so it makes it easier for the user. There is also a login screen which requires the user to enter a correct username and password. I’m currently working on allowing the user to alter the status of an order to complete (and specify what month and year it was complete).
I am also trying to work out a way for the user to be able to delete a record from the file.

According to Reuters, Micro Focus, which agreed in May to buy Borland, said on Monday that Borland had received a preliminary non-binding indication of interest from an unnamed financial buyer. The price offered would be $ 1.20 versus the $ 1 offered by Micro Focus. If the transaction is not approved by the shareholders, Borland would have to Micro Focus $3 million.

Borland entered a nondisclosure agreement with the new suitor and it has granted it access to its accounting books. Among the possible buyer, the name of Embarcadero and Oracle are mentioned. Embarcadero already bought last year the CodeGear division and might be interested for some new tools that will complete its current offer… for cheap. Oracle, who just bought Sun, could seize the occasion to create a more complete offer of software development tools around Java. JDeveloper, the Java IDE from Oracle, was originally build around the JBuilder technology from Borland.

Sorry about not posting day 3 yesterday. Just didn’t seem to cross my mind =P
Someone did reply to the post and I was able to progress more with the program. I had to leave another post for some help and the same person helped again which has allowed me to progress even more!
Now, the Battle Order values get sorted and the character portraits kinda get moved into position. If there are no duplicate numbers, they order fine. But, if there are then all sorts of things happen. All I need to do is to get my logic right and the program will be done! =D

I made no progress today on the program. I asked on a forum for some help with the arranging of the character portraits but no one has replied yet…

Before I allowed boredom to ensue, I asked Craig (my ex-ICT teacher, now friend) if he wanted a program made for his RPG Adventure project week. He said he would think about it and for me to come talk to him on Monday (8th).
I went and talked to him today and he had an idea for me. Basically, before any battle, each player is required to roll a d12 and add their Battle Initiative Value (BIV) to the number rolled. They would then b ordered smallest to biggest and do their battle action(s) in that order.
What Craig wants the program to do is to roll a d12 for each character and add the BIV value given and then display it. The tricky thing he wanted though was for the portriats of the characters to move in the correct order. This has proven to be a difficult task and I hope I overcome it well as it’ll increase my skills in programming.
I have attached pictures of the program so far. They show the initial UI, the UI with BIV values entered and the UI with BIV values entered and Battle Order values generated. Now I just gotta get them sorted with an array or something.
I will keep you up to date everyday with how things are going and will also make sure to let you know of any other program I make and I may even provide the source codes =]
