Don’t you love singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen? Perhaps you do or perhaps you don’t. People seem to have extreme views both ways.

Personally, I love Leonard Cohen. His songs are, to me, like poetry with a tune added – some would say not much of a tune but, hey, keeping it simple works for me.

So I was pretty pleased to see that Leonard Cohen is appearing at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) in November 2008.

How I would love to go and see him. However, Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast continues to be busy down here in Southbourne, thank goodness, however hard the ‘credit crunch’ tries to knock us hoteliers off course so it might be difficult to get the night off.

However, being busy means I don’t have too much time to get my old guitar out (see picture) and serenade my husband – to his eternal relief!

Who knows. Perhaps there will be some guests staying and visiting Bournemouth or Southbourne who will tell me all about it

Next weekend (28th – 31st August) visitors to Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast guest house B and B will be in for a free display of aircraft and flying or, as the organisers are saying, ‘by the sea and completely free’. More information here.

According to their publicity, there will be air displays, sea displays, fireworks, live music, balloon glows, Red Arrows, RAF Falcons, Battle of Britain Memorial flight past and more.

Many of the displays will take place over the bay between Boscombe and Bournemouth piers, they say. I can’t wait

Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast guest house B & B

Every time I see the hang gliders and parasailing pilots above Southbourne Overcliff, my heart skips a beat. Half of me says how scary it would be and the other half thinks how wonderful to soar like a bird above the beach and the sea.

In any case, it is not likely that I will be offered a quick flight because the Southbourne Overcliff flight point is for members of Wessex Hang Gliding and Parasailing Club only and membership seems to depend on, among other things, completing the appropriate training course at a proper flying school.

However, if you are thinking about taking to the clouds above Southbourne, the Wessex Hang Gliding and Parasailing Club web site will tell you all you need to know.

Why am I mentioning all this about hang gliding and parasailing? Well, Southbourne’s Wessex Hang Gliding and Parasailing Club point is but a short gust away from the Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast and, if you are a visiting pilot, I would be pleased to provide you with a comfortable bed and hearty breakfast before you take to the skies!
