Paa which got raving reviews from almost every critic opened to moderate response of around 35-40% in morning shows.As the day progressed the occupancy went up tremendously and is running at around 80-85% in all leading multiplexes.Paa has been released with limited prints hence needs to have better occupancy to generate good numbers.WOM is good which will ensure good business over the weekend.Its low budget makes it a safe bet at boxoffice.

Radio-It has been rejected on the opening day itself with average occupancy of 15-20%.Its good that producers has earned a table profit but distributors will definitly loose money …

De Dana Dan opened well in its morning shows. The collections for the first few shows were on average in the 70% region. At many places the collections were excellent with full and near full houses while some places in Bengal and South had collections in the 50-60% region.

E Square in Pune had a 77% start with first show having 450 tickets sold from a possible 584. At Wave Ludhiana the film opened to 100% collections in first two shows with collections being 29,680 for each show. Indore opening ranged from 70-100% while Ahmedabad was 60-70%.

The morning start is good at multiplexes but not bumper like a Love Aaj Kal. The collections should get better as the day goes along and evening collections have a good chance of being big.

Humanity Review: Week of November 15, 2009

Ok, so I think it’s time we stopped giving a crap about what movie grosses more money opening weekend. Obviously it doesn’t matter anymore. New Moon beat out The Dark Knight for the best single-day box office revenue. Not trying to come down on all you Twilight junkies, but it’s a shame The Dark Knight was even number one before it.

Seriously though, if anything makes me lose my faith in humanity, this is it. At first I didn’t care, but then I thought about it: There aren’t that many tween aged girls in this world. Nor teen aged girls. So who the hell is seeing this movie? Factor in extra for boyfriends and we’re still not close.

Who the hell is going out and watching this movie? Who? Not me. Old people? Maybe it’s old people. Maybe they thought it was a movie about Ella Fitzgerald. I don’t know.

Apparently, I don’t know anything. There are people out there, lots of them, who are very interested in this garbage. I don’t know why. But either way, they are, and that would put me in the minority, which means I’m wrong.

So, on my review of humanity for the week, we all get an F. Wrong or right, you’re all idiots.

Director-producer Karan Johar is in high spirits as his production house Dharma Productions has just delivered a superhit, ‘Wake Up Sid’. Moreover, Karan has around six films lined up to be released in the coming months.

In his enthusiasm of his successful ventures, he says, “Frankly, I am over and above box office today. With age and some dose of maturity coming in, I truly believe that I have grown as a filmmaker and hence I am not just looking at crores out there.”

Although this Diwali saw three big banner films ‘Blue’, ‘All The Best’ and ‘Main Aurr Mrs Khanna’, but Karan’s movie ‘Wake Up Sid’ kept on hold. “I never ask my directors to give me a film that would fetch me Rs 80, 100 or 120 crores. Once you do that, you only end up putting pressure on the poor guy. Instead, I want them to focus entirely on the subject in front of them and leave the box office in the hands of audiences.”This is what Ayan Mukherji did with Wake Up Sid and look at how he has passed with flying colours, both critically and commercially” said Karan with a tone of admiration.
