Je me demandais d’où ma fille tenait cela : cette attirance si prononcée pour les histoires de princesses. J’étais pourtant persuadée que mon discours de femme moderne était bien loin de toutes ces considérations royales. Et pourtant ! Je me suis récemment rendue compte qu’une princesse vivait en moi sans que je m’en rende compte !

Pour preuve, il a fallu que Brabantia m’invite à une soirée dans un palais pour que je fonde complétement. Faut dire que j’en avais entendu tellement parler de cet endroit magique ! Depuis qu’Electrolux avait annoncé son ouverture, je ne rêvais que d’y aller. Brabantia a donc accompli un de mes vœux (j’ai des désirs simples voyez-vous)

Des désirs simples en effet : une tour eiffel illuminée, une nuit claire, les toits d’un musée parisien, un restaurant très, très privilégié et un repas succulent pris en compagnie, entre autres, de E-Zabel. Qui a dit que j’étais snob ?

Mais venons-en au pourquoi de cette soirée, parce que je n’oublie jamais pourquoi je suis à ce genre de soirées, même la bouche remplie de toasts au foie gras. Brabantia venait nous présenter sa nouvelle collection d’ustensiles : Kitchen Today. Sa particularité, déjà existant chez d’autres marques, étant de proposer une gamme entiérement pensée pour être présentée sur un rail mural. Et vu la taille de nos cuisines modernes, c’est pas du luxe.

On imagine pas à quel point un rail mural peut changer la vie, voire nous la sauver. Rien que chez moi par exemple, il existe un tiroir des horreurs, un tiroir dans lequel il vaut mieux jeter un oeil avant d’y jeter sa main au risque de la sortir ensanglantée. J’y fourre tout ce que je ne peux pas mettre ailleurs : couteau à pain, hachoir, couteau à fromage, roulette à pizza, brochettes à barbecue, brosse à dents (pour voir si vous suivez),presse-ail, j’en passe et des plus coupants. Bref un système mural c’est pas con ! (et dire qu’on a jamais voulu de moi dans la pub).

En plus Brabantia m’a permis de tester ses ustensiles puisque j’ai reçu ça.

Mon avis (sans lequel vous seriez perdu) : on est dans le très classique niveau design, rien qui ne sorte de l’ordinaire que ce soit dans la forme ou dans les couleurs. Par contre on est assurément dans le solide. Dans la prise en main des ustensiles, la finition, je remarque bien que ces outils vont faire un long bout de route avec moi !

I’m the kind of cook who has to know where everything is.  I’m a visual sort of person in general, so seeing where my supplies are is important to me, as is organization. I’ve got a large family, and I enjoy (very much) cooking big meals for them, but it can turn into a major hassle if I spend any amount of time trying to lay my hands on a particular ladle, or knife, or see how much flour I have left.

I’ve been shopping with CornerOne for a few years now, and was always eyeballing the Brabantia line of products.  When I have a little bit of money set aside, I invested in my kitchen happiness! With free shipping, it made the decisions easier, knowing I wasn’t going to have to throw part of my budget away on exorbitant online shipping costs.

I went first for the Brabantia Wall Rail, with 7 moveable hooks.  I’ve got my whisk, ladles, spatula, peelers, and manual can opener hanging up there now, the things I use most.  It’s pretty, too.  It looks a little like a piece of abstract art, hanging on my wall, and that makes me almost as happy as the efficiency the set-up offers me.

To hold my cookbooks up and out of the way, I got the Brabantia Cookbook Holder.  It’s got a small profile and is chrome-finished, so it looks nice with my other things, and it’s so handy to not have a cookbook taking up counter space.

My Herb Jars Organizer is cool too.  It’s chrome, and looks like an old-fashioned condiments caddy.  It works well with the Kitchen Tools Organizer; both have a T-handle on top to move the organizers around easily.

I got the Wall Rail Shelf (two come in the case) and it’s easily one of my favorite additions.  I’ve got all the things I use most (spices, small containers of flour and sugar, olive oil, red wine vinegar, etc.) up on the wall where I can see it.  More importantly, it’s away from the heat source of my stove and ovens, so the spices and oils won’t have their shelf life shortened.  I can see when I’m getting low on something, so it makes life easier to know I’ve got to go to the store before I make…whatever. I like the look, too, of the color of the spices and the oils and vinegars, openly displayed against the wall, on the shiny chrome shelves.

My family is happy that I’m happy. Given that I’ve rarely had a failure at the dinner table; it shows that I’m more efficient, and a less-harried cook, when something comes out fabulous (especially that I may have never tried before).  The look of the kitchen now is like that of a professional chef’s kitchen, with the chrome and black, my good knives on display like you’d see in a restaurant. I’m very happy with everything about what I’ve done in there, and only have Brabantia and CornerOne to thank for it.

Ah ! J’en vois qui ricanent dans le fond de la blogosphère : Electroménagère a reçu une poubelle ! Cette bonne blague ! Ça va être dur de lancer la mode du bikini poubelle cet été ! (Oh ça va hein !)

D’abord c’est pas très gentil de se moquer, je m’attendais à plus de mansuétude de votre part ! Ensuite il faut savoir qu’il s’agit d’une Brabantia, la Rolls-Royce de la poubelle !

Ça ricane déjà moins (et moi par contre je ricane beaucoup plus).

D’ailleurs j’ai eu la même réaction hier au travail quand j’ai annoncé que je recevrais une poubelle. Et puis ils l’ont vu ma poubelle. Énorme, 45 litres (de quoi épargner la descente de poubelle quotidienne). Enfin maintenant c’est décidé, ma (future) cuisine sera bleue !

Each time you visit the grocery store, doesn’t it always seem as though you come away with too much bread? Well, that’s no surprise, considering how hard a good loaf is to resist. With all the interesting varieties of bread that are available in the supermarket, I often find myself with extra, just because I want to try that honey berry ground wheat loaf. My real problem arises when I get home, and have to face storing my new purchases in a place where the humidity won’t have my bread moldering in under a week. It’s true, I am a bit old fashioned. I just can’t stand to toss my bread on top of the fridge when I bring it home. It goes over so quickly there, and there’s just no real presentation. When guests are over, It’s embarrassing to show a kitchen with plastic sacks poking out over the top. I’d be lost without my Brabantia bins.

The Brabantia bread bins do an amazing job of keeping my bread fresh for much longer than it does out in the open air. I waste less bread, and I end up not eating it as quickly, because I don’t have that urgency to finish off the whole loaf before it spoils. Objet du quotidien mais particulièrement sinistre niveau décoration. Même une chaise Eames ferait une dépression en sa compagnie.

Le problème c’est qu’on ne peut s’en passer (enfin si j’en connais, de plus en plus nombreuses d’ailleurs). Je rectifie donc : le problème c’est que certaines irréductibles parmi nous ne peuvent s’en passer.

Ainsi, si je ne suis pas aussi rapide à l’ouverture de porte quand vous décidez de me faire un petit coucou surprise, ce n’est pas pour me remaquiller que je vous fais attendre mais bien pour aller planquer ma table à repasser (et donc manquer de me casser la binette).

Heureusement Brabantia a peut être trouvé le moyen de me réconcilier avec l’esthétique de la planche à repasser. Oewie. Wat zat er vandaag in mijn brievenbus? Pakjes! Pakjes voor mij zelfs! En het is niet eens Kerstmis

Pakje 1… een ijskrabbertje van Marco Borsato. Euhm… ja. Laat ons zeggen dat ik mij eens heb uitgeleefd op allesgratis.net ;-)

Pakje 2 heeft niets te maken met die website, maar alles met Brabantia. Remember this?
Vandaag zat er een wasknijperzakje van het merk bij de post! Waarom? Omdat ze willen dat ik ze knijp voor concurrentie bloggers. Maar, no way! Ik laat mij niet doen hoor… kom maar op bloggertjes

Het zakje zelf komt anders wel van pas. Nu hebben wij een mandje om onze wasspelden in te leggen. Een roos mandje met gaten in. Alhoewel… roos? Eerder wit, omdat het al zo afgeschenen is. Dit lijkt me wel een handiger zakje. Er hangt een musketon aan die je aan je wasdraad kan hangen zodat je het tasje mee kan verder slepen.
Oh, en weet je wat? Het wasknijpertasje heeft een garantie van 2 jaar! Ik wist niet dat er garantie stond op wasknijpertasjes!

Wat ik echt leuk vind aan het pakje is de opdracht die bij het wasknijpertasje was geleverd. De missie? Je postbode zo goed mogelijk soigneren. Je moet het vastlegen op foto of op film.
Er staan enkele voorbeelden in de brief: de rode loper voor hem uitleggen, hem trakteren op een smoothie of de brievenbus versieren. Leuk… maar ik wil origineler zijn! Wat ik ga doen weet ik nog niet… daar zal ik dit weekend mijn hoofd eens over breken – de postbode komt toch maar terug op maandag. Suggesties zijn altijd welkom.

Ik las er over hier en hier. De “er” in vorige zin is de campagne van Brabantia. Je kent dat merk ongetwijfeld!

Ik vind het een leuk initiatief, en een leuke, originele marketing strategie. Het is leuk voor Brabantia: zij krijgen gratis reclame. Tenminste als je positieve dingen schrijft. Het eerlijke is dat je lekker je eigen mening schrijft. Vind je een product minder goed, so be it. Zelfs dat is nog positief voor hen want er wordt dan zowiezo over Brabantia gepraat.

Fijn is ook dat ze zelf ook een blog bijhouden. Op de blog kan je je trouwens inschrijven. Als je wil meedoen: klik hier.

Anyway, deze morgen kreeg ik een mailtje dat ik mee op hun bloglijstje stond. En dus ging ik eens een kijkje nemen in onze keuken. Ik ken het merk wel, maar aangezien ik niet de persoon ben die bij ons thuis keukengerei aankoopt, was ik niet helemaal zeker of we wel producten van Brabantia hebben.

De Brabantia vondst in onze keuken bleek goed mee te vallen. Dit keukenprinsjes ownt keukengerei zoals een pizzaroller, spaghettilepel, spatel, pureestamper, bakspaan, soeplepel, voorraadbussen, broodtrommel,… van het merk.
Van de spatels en lepels en dergelijke heb ik niet echt een mening. Ze doen dienst, ze doen dat goed, maar ik gok dat elk ander merk dat ook wel zal doen?
De broodtrommel en voorraadbussen doen ook dienst, maar daarnaast zijn ze ook mooi! leuk designtje!

Update: na op hun site te zijn gaan neuzen kwam ik te weten dat Brabantia ook badkamer- en wasgerief heeft. Who knew?

Deze ochtend op StuBru: een onderzoek bij “de jeugd van tegenwoordig”. Of ze materialistisch zijn? Nu, ik kan enkel voor mezelf antwoorden en op die vraag zeg ik volmondig ‘JA’. En iedereen die me kent, zal dat beamen…

Ik hou er nu eenmaal van om mij te omringen met ’the latest & greatest’. Nintendo Wii? Check! Sony Vaio laptop? Check! PSP? Check! iPod Video? Check! Nokia GSM? Check!

Nu, ik let er wel op dat ik niet overdrijf. Er bestaat àltijd erger. Zo heb ik ’slechts’ 999 euro betaald voor mijn laptop terwijl mijn eigenlijke favoriet er 2000 kostte. Ik ben ook nooit ‘de eerste’ met iets. Mijn PSP kocht ik als de hype al wat over was. Mijn Nokia is mooi en handig, maar niet hét topmodel. Mijn Nintendo Wii heb ik nog maar enkele weken. En mijn iPod Video heb ik nog steeds niet omgeruild voor een iPhone of iPod Touch. En néén, ik heb (nog) geen Macbook!

Maar sinds Jo en ik shoppen voor onze uitzet, betrap ik mezelf erop dat ik zelfs voor praktisch keukenmateriaal voor ‘the latest & greatest’ kies. We kijken wel altijd uit naar promoties. De Makro-folder is onze bijbel. Wat dacht je van een potten- en pannenset van Demeyere aan -40%? Een Brabantia TouchBin aan de helft van de prijs. Dyson stofzuigers aan interessante prijsjes. Een designlamp van outlet store Dépôt Design in Brussel (een geweldige winkel trouwens!). Onze Siemens droogkast konden we op de kop tikken in een uitverkoop.

Snobisme? Integendeel! Nu zien onze bankrekeningen even af, maar met onze meubels en materialen kunnen Jo en ik nog jààààren verder. En da’s, boven alles, ons doel.

Mijn volgende snufje? Een HTC Touch Diamond. En die ga ik wél als allereerste kopen, als ‘t effe kan… Handig als zoiets gelanceerd wordt, enkele weken na je verjaardag!

However, I have reason to do the opposite. We bought a Brabantia bin a couple of years ago. It cost a few bob but it broke under suspicious circumstances.

Anyway, Jeana went to Macro to buy a new one, ‘cos it’s a great bin.

While she was there she spotted that they had a 10 year guarantee. So, rather than buying a new one (she was in an odd mood) she phoned Brabantia and explained the situation.

“No problem madam, we’ll send you a new one.” They said.

It arrived today.

No receipt, no bullshit, no questions, no bother… just outstanding customer service.

I rather think I may never buy a bin from another bin-maker in my life and I would suggest you think likewise.

Perhaps Mondial UK might like to pay them a visit.
