I’m going to go out on a limb and say any song worth listening to has meaning. The latest song with meaning that I have came across “Emotional” by Brad Real and Jason Brown. I got a chance to get some words from Brad Real on exactly what this song means and why he wrote and here is what he said in his own words.

Jason Brown, the singer and guitar player on the track was in an Indianapolis rock band back in the 90′s called Push Down & Turn. They were a great band and made a lot noise locally and regionally. My Dad and I followed them around quite a bit and they were the first reason I can remember as to why I wanted to be in music. Jason is now in a band called Cousin Roger and they play around the city. Jason and I stayed in touch over the years and I contacted him in hopes of doing a collaboration and he agreed.

I wanted the song to be a gift to my Dad and a song dedicated to all the Fathers and Father-figures out there. Nick J produced the beat and Jason played guitar and sang the hook.

One thing I can definitely say about Brad Real is that he works real hard. He is one of the few artist in the past couple years that really takes his craft serious and is always keeping me in the loop of his moves. So its only right that I show the homey some love with the release of his new album “Letters To The Editor” which is out right now at BradReal.com

This album shows definite growth and maturity and showing another side to the hip-hop scene that is right here in Naptown. I got a chance to talk to Brad about his album. Then afterwards check out some video of some of the producers that were in attendance for the release party!

We are honored to be a part of this huge event and are hosting a showcase @ Local’s Only, one of the hippest venues/pubs in the area. Our event will be a night of innovative independent hip hop featuring performances from 9 diverse acts including special guest Chicago MC and Anticon recording artist, Serengeti. Doors open @ 8pm w/ DJ Deadrisk on the decks. Show starts @ 9pm sharp!

Heavy Gun Hip Hop Stage / Beat Battle Round 2

Our friends @ Heavy Gun Blog will be hosting their 2nd annual producer Beat Battle and an all ages Hip Hop stage @ Savvy Salon starting @ 1:30pm in the afternoon. So, we encourage you to go out and get your BRMF wristbands, which will get you into all of the participating venues for BRMF.

Throw all of your misconceptions about local music / hip hop out the window. Right now there are some amazing sounds coming out of our often forgotten state! Our 2 showcases combined will make for an entire days worth of dope hip hop music right here in the heart of Indiana! This will be an epic event to say the least. Please come out and support the artists that are working hard to represent the midwest in an original and artistic way.
