I helped out Gabe and Atom with a few interviews of Temple University professors. I helped by providing lighting and the use of my camera on a day where they were unable to rent one from the equipment office, I followed Gabe and Atom as they posted up in quite a few places around campus. I always enjoy working on a projects with Gabe and Atom because they are very organized on how they preplan their b roll footage around their interviews and have a sense of humor in their projects.

I enjoyed working with everyone and I hope we can work together in the future.

I am thinking of going on the next series of Dragons Den with a toaster actually big enough to take a full slice of bread.

Art Direction is one thing I have always wanted to improve in my movies. I base my movies around cool locations but there’s more to art direction then just finding any location. The mise en scene of every shoot should strengthen the film and give it credibility while every color used in costumes and sets should give commentary to every character. In order to convince the viewer that sets could be reality, the art director must be a master of illusion and works closely with set designer to give the director the best looking environment to film in. Wes Anderson uses art direction in all his movies to make the best of each film element to create a unique world that is full with well developed characters. His art direction constantly reflects conflict in the scenes and matches the momentum in each scene. Each screen shot could be made into a painting they are so alive with color and every detail of the costumes revival something new about each character.

The reason I chose to talk about the Royal Tenenbaums in particular is because Wes Anderson adds an attention to detail that I admire. The movie takes place in a fictionalized New York City and with most exterior scenes filmed in New Work, Wes Anderson goes through great lengths to make sure he does not include skyscrapers. He even has Pagoda stand in front of the Statue of Liberty when filming in battery park. In order to create a fictionalized world, a director must first relate the viewer to something familiar so both the director and the viewer have common ground.

Art direction can be subtle but everything shot in frame is made to look a certain way and therefore even the most basic shots should have every detail planned out to create a new environment.

I’m not sure what it says about the state of my mind grapes right now that this video’s managed to lodge itself so firmly into my subconscious (5 views in the past 48 hours, for one thing), but the levels of crazy she brings per video definitely brings something to the table. (That thing being lots of crazy).

Fighting tiger meets lazy fist

‘If you want peace, plan for war.’ I am not entirely sure who said this quote or what the context of it happened to be, however I always felt that I could relate it to making movies. Its idiomatic among film makers that whatever can go wrong will go wrong during production will go wrong. Its not that I consider myself weak, in fact I am delusional enough sometimes, to think that I could win a fight given agreeable circumstances. However, the plain truth of the matter is I would get technically knocked out during the first round. I considered starting body building but that would only make me look tougher. I need something that can help me out smart my much stronger rival.

There is not one thing about Kung Fu that I do not like. The rapid and precise body movements, the ease that comes with mastering techniques and moves, whats not to like? Last Thursday I drove to Wissahickon  at the corner or Ridge Ave and Manayunk where carefully hidden behind a deli is Ba’z Tai Chi and Kung Fu studio. The studio is nothing short of a hidden jem. Because the first class was free, I was able to enjoy a feel for the class and learned different fighting stances and some kick ass fighting combos. Wearing converse sneakers, a pair of genes and a tee shirt it was obvious that I was not prepared for the class or the fact that I would learn to achieve balance, gain strength, and kick ass all within an hour class. I am still working through the basics of Tai Chi but I believe that I have found my perfect new sport. However I may just go to the gym, Kung Fu classes are not cheap. Ba’z Studio is a great way to learn martial arts but the cost for 8 classes in one month is $125. Oh well, Time to start filling up the old change jar. Until then I will be content to sit around more and watch Kung Fu movies as I continuously get more and more out of prime fighting form.

Yes, being an filmmaker includes many stressful situations that make me question the very reason why I wish to become one. Late nights of scripting, planning and rewriting could be a task on the sole. This morning I got into a full out verbal argument in Annenberg hall right next to the Equipment office with my Cinematographer about our project. But the truth was when I was angrily yelling in my brother’s face, I was simply displacing my anger for some serious pain and suffering…

Ladies and Gentleman, today marks a day of udder despair and in this angst filled note of a post I will explain why. I have understood that the equipment office is very strict here and temple university and that any late equipment must have a charge of 25 dollars for every hour it is late. This makes sense to me although I do not agree with the pricing, the threat allows equipment to flow seamlessly between students who need it. Here are the rules.

1) Equipment rented over the weekend must be returned between the hours of 8:30 and 12 on Monday morning.

2) For every hour the equipment is late the student is charged $25 U.S. dead presidents

This I also understand-

However when a student must finish an examination and is delayed behind their expected return date by 10mins, there should be an exception for extenuating circumstances. As soon as my class ended, I ran the equipment back to the office to find myself 10mins later then the allowed time for returns. In order to avoid further debit to the equipment office I had to miss my next class (which happens to be my favorite science of sound) to return the equipment at 1pm when they open the doors up for rental instead of drop off. Now I am faced with a 25 dollar fee for being an hour late when in actuality I was 10mins late. Would America’s founding fathers let this happen? I assume they would say no although I have not meet any of them personally. So there for I am going to complain! I will take the “Trouble Ticket and Fine Report” and tell them to shove it! GOD BLESS AMERICA
