A veces uno no sabe muy bien como van a ir estas cosas, pero nos pusimos en contacto con el Terrat TV y con mucho morro y desparpajo, y sobre todo gracias a la magna labor de Adrià, hemos conseguido una entrevista, a estas nuevas estrellas supervivientes o murientes del Apocalipsis Zombie!

1) ¿De dónde surge la idea de hacer una serie sobre zombis y siendo vosotros los únicos supervivientes de un Apocalipsis Zombi?

-Rafel Barceló: Los zombis nos encantan desde hace tiempo. Esas caras semi-podridas, esos andares, esos gritos guturales… son entrañables. Lo de que los protagonistas sean dos supervivientes, a parte de ser una de las constantes del género, nos permite hacer humor sobre cosas muy serias: ¿Cómo debe plantearse una nueva civilización? ¿Qué debe pasar a la posteridad? ¿Si se hacen nuevas leyes, cuales se conservan y cuales no? Y así…

- Berto Romero: Desde hacía tiempo nos apetecía hacer algo de este tipo. Una misma situación con dos personajes y una buena excusa para hablar de cualquier cosa. Dos tipos no demasiado inteligentes con todo el tiempo del mundo para pensar, charlar e intentar construir su propio futuro nos pareció una situación muy adecuada.

2) ¿Por qué elegís los zombis y no cualquier otro personaje de terror, como por ejemplo: hombres lobo, vampiros, momias, etc,etc…?

- RB: Los zombis son los que permiten más la metáfora. Son monstruos, pero antes de serlo eran tus vecinos, y en algunos casos tu familia. Eso permite muchas lecturas. Como masa idiotizada estamos muy cerca de ellos. Personalmente odio a Drácula, con su elegancia y sus maneras de noble. Lleva capa, por Dios, será hortera…

- BR: Las pelis de zombis siempre se apoyan en la metáfora. Eso nos gusta, y quisimos trasladarlo al tipo de comedia que nos gusta. Pero tranquilos, que no profundizamos y vamos a hacer caricatura de temas generales. Va por ahí la cosa, sí.

- RB: Las de Romero todas, Zombis Party, Brain Dead, Evil Dead…

- BR: Totalmente de acuerdo. Muertos vivientes power. Recomiendo “Dead Set”, la miniserie de Channel 4. Muy buena.

4) ¿Qué preferís un Muerto Viviente o un Vivo viviente?

- RB: En principio prefiero a los vivos. Pero tampoco muy vivientes. Vivos Tranquilitos.

- BR: Por mi experiencia, vivos vivientes. Quiero decir que nunca he visto uno de los otros. No existen de verdad, ¿verdad? ¿eh? ¿verdad?

5) ¿Tu novia es un zombi? (Si es posible, mientras respondéis escuchad Alaska de fondo…)

- RB: Mi mujer no es un zombi. Aunque si lo fuera yo sería de los que intentaría mantenerla en un cuartucho con vida. Debe ser muy fuerte dispararle a la cabeza a tu pareja.

- BR: Mi novia es muy buena persona, y por lo que yo sé, mantiene sus constantes vitales en todo momento.

6) ¿Necrofilia o Necrofagia? (Tenéis que mojaros!)

- RB: Necrofagia. ¿Cuando quedamos? Tengo un patio con barbacoas.

- BR: Necrofagia siempre. ¿Qué somos? ¿Unos degenerados o qué?

7) Por ahora habéis tocado temas como el amor, la religión, la fiesta,… ¿Y para cuando tenéis pensado tocar la Crisis?

- RB: No lo sabemos. Aunque nuestros planes son tocar temas más universales, y menos de actualidad. De manera que si quisiéramos tocar algo parecido a la crisis sería el capitalismo, o la avaricia.

- BR: Yo creo que estar en un mundo dominado por los zombis ya es bastante crisis. No veo cómo añadirle otra a la situación, la verdad.

Aparte de vosotros dos como zombis, ¿Tenéis pensado hacer alguna invitación tipo Guest Star al Follonero, Andreu Buenafuente,..?

- RB: No lo hemos planteado todavía, pero yo creo que a los dos nos ha pasado por la cabeza.

- BR: Sí, estamos abiertos a todo. Y en cuanto a la serie, también.

9) Al igual que las pelis de George A. Romero conllevan una moraleja y una crítica social, ¿Cuál sería vuestra función social?

- RB: Yo creo que esta: “si no queda otra persona en el mundo, más vale que te lleves bien con esta”

- BR: Yo tengo otra: “Si todos los demás están muertos, tú siempre estarás en la flor de la vida”.

10) ¿Por que elegís Internet a través de El Terrat TV como vía de promoción de vuestra serie?

- RB: De una manera natural. Nosotros teníamos en la cabeza esta serie desde hace tiempo. El terrat empezó a hablar de una tele por Internet. Nosotros colaboramos con el terrat y estamos a muy a gusto.

- BR: Yo la quería para prime time en la Sexta los domingos, pero cuando se lo propuse a los directivos se echaron a reir y se fueron a otra sala.

11) ¿Zombies o Infectados?

- RB: Creo que es lo de menos. Lo que importa son los resultados. Aunque personalmente soy un romántico y me gustan las explicaciones que incluyen contaminación atómica.

- BR: Zombis, zombis. Que infectados son los de la Gripe A.

Zu Halloween wollten meine Freundin und ich einen stimmungsvollen Gruselfilm anschauen. Unschlüssig standen wir vor den Regalen unserer Videothek und überlegten, ob wir „Braindead“ oder „Dawn of the Dead“, „Dead by dawn“ oder „Dead before dawn“, „Evil Dead“ oder doch lieber „Night of the living Dead“ nehmen sollten. Bei dieser Titelvielfalt fiel die Wahl natürlich schwer und außerdem hatte ich an diesem Tag für meinen Geschmack schon mehr als genug Horror hinter mir. Allein bei dem Gedanken daran lief es mir eiskalt den Rücken hinunter. Um mich abzulenken, durchforstete ich panisch die Regale nach Splatter-Klassikern, doch auch das half nichts.

„Mehr ham wa nich, nur was da steht“, blökte das Videotheksmädchen und schmatzte weiter an ihrem rosa Bubblegum. Meine Freundin hatte es unterdessen zu den Romantic Comedies verschlagen, während ich schon ein zweites Mal die ganzen Gruselreihe durch hatte. Mir wurde klar, dass es keinen Film geben konnte, der nur annähernd so schrecklich war, wie das, was ich nachmittags im Radio gehört und später in der Sportschau gesehen hatte:
Das Spiel HSV gegen Gladbach – für jeden Rautenfan ein knallharter Schocker, der gegen Ende sogar zum Tanz der Untoten mutierte. Jerome Boateng humpelte wie ein angeschossener Zombie über das Feld – ebenso wie der Rest der Hamburger Elf. Die Jungs keuchten über den Rasen und schlurften nur noch dem Gegner hinterher. Viel lebendiger spielten die Gladbacher. Ihr Verteidiger Dante preschte von hinten heran und schleuderte seinen Schädel gegen den Ball. Er hatte leichtes Spiel, denn die Abwehr der Hanseaten war wieder einmal kopflos – zweizuzwei. Später wurde es dann richtig gruselig: Der Fohlen-Joker Rob Friend zeigte seine Fratze – nicht Batman, sondern dem HSV – und zerschoss die Träume der Hamburger von der Tabellenführung.

Mittlerweile hatte ich mich in die Erwachsenenabteilung verlaufen. Und dort irgendwo zwischen Titten und Mösen grinste mich ein Voodoo-Priester vom Cover eines Zuckerhut-Pornos an. Es war kein geringerer als José Roberto da Silva Júnior – Zé Roberto! Schon wollte ich in Ehrfurcht niederknien, da flüsterte mir eine Stimme leise und zärtlich ins Ohr: „Was machst du denn in der Pornoabteilung?“

Auf einen Schlag war ich wieder in der Realität: Meine Freundin hatte mich gerade noch rechtzeitig vor den Untoten gerettet. Sie hielt mir ihren Filmvorschlag entgegen: „It’s alive“, ein Streifen über ein eifersüchtiges Monster-Baby, das alle auffrisst – nur nicht seine Mutter.
Heute kennen wir dieses Ungeheuer als Maik Franz, Knochenzertrümmerer von Eintracht Frankfurt. Fortsetzung folgt…

Horror Month 2009 welcomes into its ranks quite possibly the goriest film to ever grace the big screen!

I realized as I was about to start my review for Braindead that every introduction I was thinking of I had either used recently or quite often. Talk about how the movie just wants to have fun, wait, used that a few weeks back. Okay, how about Braindead’s straight forward nature and its simplicity, wait, used that about a week ago. Hmmm, what about my spiel where I convey the fact that I am having trouble thinking of what to say about a film? Never mind, the whole reason that’s my spiel is because I use it far too often. I don’t know how the heck to handle the introduction paragraph to Braindead, well, I guess that’s not true since this is the introduction paragraph in question. That takes care of that, oh, I am a sly dog indeed!

Now that that my less than clever attempt at a humorous intro is out of the way I have to talk about the actual film, clearly it’s only downhill from here. Braindead is a cult hit for a number of different reasons, most notably because of the fervor that came attached with its more than the norm gore. However, if that were its only claim to fame it probably wouldn’t have garnered the attention it has through the years. In my humble opinion the main culprit behind Braindead’s longevity in the cult department is its director, Peter Jackson. Long before he became a world famous and well respected director of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy he micromanaged this ghastly entry into the horror genre.

Once you get past the director Braindead takes shape as its own beast, but it never quite loses the flashes that let you know you are watching a Peter Jackson film. I wasn’t lying when I said Braindead is possibly the goriest film to ever grace the big screen, it is certainly the goriest film I have ever seen. With the amount of gore that Jackson tosses at the viewer it would have been easy for Braindead to get lost in said gore. The key difference between Braindead and a movie like Hostel that I have decried for its depiction of gore is the fun that Braindead has with the gore. It is over the top but it revels in its over the top nature, and it has fun with the gore. At a certain point Braindead becomes a gore only movie, it drops any pretense of being some other type of movie and drives at the viewer full force with as much gore as possible.

There honestly isn’t much to Braindead beyond its fun nature, that’s not a knock on the film, it’s a realization of the type of movie Braindead wants to be. It is the type of film that throws everything it can think of at the viewer in the name of fun. For the most part Braindead succeeds, although I did find myself becoming disinterested after kung fu priest and before the zombie party. That stretch of the film doesn’t last all that long however, and the zombie party is something to behold. For gore aficionados Braindead has to be paradise, for the rest of us it’s anywhere from a good to a very good film. Braindead plays with its audience and has fun, if you decide to check Braindead out you should have fun too.
