The issue is how best to do it.

I wrote a while ago about Swizz Beatz’ work for Jaguar. And I’m now writing again about Jag, this time regarding Damian Lewis. Now. Do get it twisted Damian Lewis is one of the best actors to come out of the UK for a long, very long, long time. And I get when a brand approaches you and supports a solid looking script with a big cheque and a life supply of cars for you and your family, really I do.

But the Jag piece, a film behind the launch of the F Type looks try hard and feels it. I can feel my shoulders tense watching it. Lets see how many times we can mention ‘car’ in the script guys. Its shot well, it looks visually lovely and it’s a great way of pushing a new car to the masses – I mean literally what else can be done to market cars!

It’s not even just a debate about the content its whether working with actors makes this right. Does it make it more interesting for a consumer? Sure they watch it cause their favourite celeb is in it, but would they buy it due to him? I doubt it. Damian Lewis isn’t really much of a jag man anyway. I saw his interview on Top Gear…..

The FTC says it is unlawful, while the generic and branded drug makers disagree.

So why does this matter?  Everyone knows that generic drugs are cheaper than branded drugs.  As the NY Times reported, “73 percent of consumer spending” is spent on branded drugs.  When a generic drug, which costs about 15% of the branded drug cost, enters the market, branded drug makers lose about 90% of their profits.

In FTC v. Actavis, Inc., the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals held companies holding the patent to the branded drug could make those payments to the generic drug maker.  In this case, the generic drug maker challenged the patent of the branded drug maker in court.  Both drug makers came to a settlement, whereby the generic would get some payment as long as the branded drug maker could continue to sell its branded drug exclusively for a time period.

In sum, the 11th Circuit reasoned, “absent sham litigation or fraud” when the anticompetitive effects of a patent fell within that scope, there is no antitrust claim. Further, since there was a settlement, the 11th Circuit stated that it would be hard to predict what the effect would have been.  And since the settlement was with one generic drug maker, this did not impact other generic drug makers from selling the generic version of the drug.

Now, the Supreme Court has to decide on this issue.

Clarke was astounded when he learnt that India had dropped Gambhir

Australia captain Michael Clarke has admitted that he was shocked by India’s decision to omit opening batsman Gautam Gambhir for the ongoing four-Test series, stating that his absence has taken some of the strain off his bowlers.

Clarke noted that India would soon start to miss the left-hander and it would only be a matter of time before he regains his form and spot in the Test roster.

“I expected him (Gambhir) to be in the Test team,” Clarke said. “He is a wonderful player and has played for India for a long time now. I think there are a few bowlers in our team who are happy he is not playing.

“He is a wonderful guy and I really like him and I get along really well with him. If he scores runs, I’m sure he will get his chance with the Indian team again.”

Australia have tried to use their sledging tactics against India throughout this series, but Clarke believes the game revolves around on-field performances and making an impact with the bat or ball and in the field as well.

“It’s not about what you say,” Clarke said. “It’s about what you do. As a player, as the Australian cricket team, that’s our goal. It’s no good making statements and comments and not backing them up. I’d rather want people to say less and do more, so that’s our goal. Perform well on the field, that’s all we want.”

Even though Clarke was branded as the top Test batsman coming into the India series, he stated that “reputation is irrelevant”.

“Reputation is irrelevant, to be honest, especially when it’s my reputation,” Clarke added. “I start on zero like everybody else. My last tour to India wasn’t anywhere near as successful as I would have liked. I really enjoy the challenge of facing spin but it still gets me out, like it does every player.

“I’ll tick every box off the field in terms of preparation and training and then I will go in and enjoy myself.”

The Australian captain also refused to say what his sides weaknesses have been throughout the series.

“[The] Australian team has no weaknesses at all,” he said chuckling. “I don’t think it will be right for me to sit here and tell you what the Australian team’s strengths and weaknesses are and I don’t think it will be fair to give you the Indian team’s strengths and weaknesses either.

“We have to be really focused just on us and on the areas we need to get better at and not worry too much about our opposition.”

However, he did admit that the current side lacked the experience of the team he toured with last time.

“When you look at the team now compared to when I first came in, we had so many experienced players, so many great players; probably seven or eight players in the team when I made my debut were as good as any seven or eight players in the world,” Clarke said. “We are a lot less experienced now.

“Yes, every one of us has the same goals, the same commitment, the same work ethic. We know that to be successful, we need to perform well as a team. It’s not about individuals making a hundred or a two hundred or taking five wickets. That’s not going to give us the success we want over a long period.”

Clarke also took some time to reminisce about his career, from the time he was an arrogant youngster to captaining the country today.

“I guess – some good times, when the team has had a lot of success and I have scored some runs, and some tough times, when I have been dropped from the Test team and I didn’t know if I was going to get back into the team,” Clarke said. “Now the positive is that the team is playing well and I am able to captain Australia.

“So there have been plenty of ups and downs through my career – some moments that I will cherish forever and some moments in my career that have made me the player I am today. When I was dropped from the Australian Test team, without going through what I went through at the time, I don’t think I would be the player that I am today.”

The Australian captain has also taken on the burden of being a mentor to many of the youngsters that have been included in the squad.

“Being a senior player, not just the captain, it is part of your responsibility,” he said. “As you get older, as you play more cricket, the responsibility is on some of us who have played a lot of Test cricket to stand up and lead from the front, make sure the youngsters are taken along.

“I was lucky when I came into the Australian team that there were so many senior players around to answer the questions I wanted to ask and help me with advice and keep my feet on the ground. Now I am a little bit older and a little big greyer, so it’s part of my job to make sure I do the same to the young guys coming in.”

When asked about his thoughts towards the fact that the Decision Review System (DRS) had not been implemented throughout the series, Clarke said: “To me, it’s about consistency. It’s the same for both teams in this four-Test series. Here in India, if we use it, great, if we don’t use it, great; It doesn’t matter to me as captain of the Australian team. It doesn’t bother any of the Australian players.”

A couple of weeks ago, I had always thought that pretentious was a word for something that was trying to be all artsy and send a message but end up losing track of whatever the hell that it was trying to comment on. I’ve thus figured out that pretentious is a term reserved for when someone who is trying to convey a message but only has one route for conveying that message and can’t stop banging the listener’s/viewer’s head with the same goddamn message. Be forewarned that I will only be talking about some films as examples for now and I may be splattering hate upon films that a lot of people like. Why am I using these films as examples? Because they embody either bits and pieces or every single thing that I hate in pretentious films. And what do I start with? Why with a film that killed a director’s career that I’m starting to attain hate for. Southland Tales.

I’m not going to tell you the director’s name. Google this movie and you’ll find him. What you should be caring about right now is the movie Southland Tales and the fact that it is pretentious to a point that the word pretentious feels that it needs to back down before it is overwhelmed by pretentiousness and- GOD! THE RABBIT KEEPS GETTING BIGGER AND BIGGER! I’m not going to explain the plot of this film or the reasons why it’s stupid but I will tell you that this is a movie that shows that no one is exempt from pretentious bullshit. You’ve got (These guys are famous. I just suck at naming people) the Rock, the girl from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the guy from American Pie, the guy from Cheers, Justin Timberlake, and another dog-pile of Hollywood’s b-list who prove why they will never be a-list. No one is safe. Especially, the viewer.

Then you’ve got something like The Matrix that hides its pretentiousness with a whole lot of fighting and a whole lot of shitty special effects. I like fighting. I like shitty special effects. But, it’s when the people start talking that I feel as if I need to take a shot of the brownest and dirtiest whiskey in red-neck Southern USA in order to bring my mind to the same echelon of the people who wrote the script. Wait, the people…Oh, I mean, THE FUCKING MONKEYS! There are so many things that don’t make sense but, then again, I was one of the people who liked this film and even said that I liked the second one. The third one can burn in hell because that had a whole lot of talking… Talking from a film that I yelled NEEDS TO STOP TALKING! The Matrix is a great example of a great way to hide pretentiousness. That’s why god made Wikipedia so the summary can allow you to know the sheer amount of stupidity that you just witnessed.

And, now, it’s time to climb all the way to the top of the bullshit mountain to talk about a movie from a legendary filmmaker who I have never found a reason to like which is Stanley Kubrick. Yes, I think that Kubrick is pretentious and I hate 2001: A Space Odyssey from the bottom of my heart but, guess what? That’s not the film that I’m going to bash on. Instead, I’m attacking A Clockwork Orange. I hate this film. I hate the message that it is trying to send. I hate the method that it is trying to send it and I hate the fact that people hold it to such high regards. I think that this film is complete trash with absolutely no redeeming factors whatsoever. I know that there is a book that this movie was based off of and I will never touch it because of this film. People have said that it is one of those films that you need to grimace at in order to get the full effect of. FUCK THAT! FUCK THIS MOVIE! AND EVERYONE WHO LOVES IT, that’s your business. Not mine. This film is the perfect example of a film that is so pretentious that people hold it to very high regards.

Pretentious films can exist. I’m okay with their existence. I just don’t want it to be constantly pushed into my face. If you want to make a pretentious film then make sure that nobody sees it and keep it for yourself so that you can stroke your own self to it. Pretentious work should never see the light of day.
