I always enjoy a bit of lace here and there, but like it even more when it’s unexpected.  This shirt looks so normal in front but all lace in the back.  Perfect for a nice twist on a casual outfit.

Enjoyed a beautiful evening by the Malibu shoreline for my last night in LA.  It was so nice to watch the sun set and hear the waves crashing.

I missed Howl so much that I got a website, Zhopped.com, to photoshop her in for me!  Although, I do feel a little bad that she replaced the awkward head of  a dear friend.

This weekend I discovered the Brandy Melville store in Sloane square which was pretty cool. BM is an Italian brand modelled of L.A. style. Think Coachella meets American Apparel. Although the exchange rate kinda screws people over it’s still very well priced for what it is (similar to H&M prices).

My life has been a flurry of stress and parties lately; a good mix if I do say so myself! I have a big AP exam this Thursday and every spare moment of free time has been spent stressing studying. This weekend though was full of Sweet 16′s aka the perfect opportunities to de-stress and let all my stress out on the dance floor.

Today I almost decided to be lazy and throw on this top with a pair of cutoffs and sandals, but then thought, why not dress up? This top looks way cuter when mixed with a neutral skater skirt anyway! Because of the earthy tones, I added all of my rose gold jewelry to compliment the colors. I finished the look with my lace up sandals. These are my favorite shoes I own, but I’ve been wearing them less lately to make sure they last longer–I would hate to retire them one day!

I’m off to go study for a midterm and work on some floor plans at my favorite coffee shop (which happens to serve my favorite veggie sandwich as well, yum!) Nothing like a good environment to get your through some hard work!

If you’ve been following our blog for quite some time now, you may have realized that the trends we have mentioned have been revitalized once they went out of a style a few years ago. You may not remember the time when you wore t-shirts with slogans or sweaters with catchy phrases on them, which is why I’m happy to say that graphic tees are back!

Ashish’s Spring/Summer collection featured a shirt that read “I’m serious” on it, whereas Acne just bannered the simple word “music” on it. With expressionism at its finest, these shirts openly state “say it loud and proud.” Whatever you never had the nerve to say, I’m sure you can find it at stores like Esprit or at designer shops like Vivienne Westwood.

I know that I have always felt less feminine and boxy when wearing one of these shirts. That’s why I got rid of my graphic tees as soon as they went out of style a couple of years ago. However, I bought the occasional shirt at Brandy Melville or the famous Coco Chanel No. 5 shirt. Now, I realize that there are many ways to wear a slogan shirt without losing shape or looking like a dude.

1) Don’t buy a shirt that you don’t feel comfortable in. Not agreeing with what it says on your shirt can make you feel less confident. 

2) Wear a tee with layers. Pairing a fun sloganed shirt with a similar toned hue jacket can change your look instantly. Add a pop of color (ie a colorful belt or a cute bag) to freshen up the outfit.

3) You can wear a graphic tee with either skinny heels, or boyfriend jeans. Celebrities have been sporting the slouched look, wearing really baggy boyfriend jeans with ankle booties. Just make sure the shirt isn’t an XL, because you don’t want to look frumpy.

4) DO NOT wear a graphic tee with patterned pants. The tee already draws a lot of attention to you, so you don’t want to clash with over-the-top pants as well. Fun colored pants are fun with a grey slogan shirt, thought.

5) I wear my graphic tees with leather pants and booties. You can wear this outfit almost anywhere, but this is my go-to look when I go out to the trendy Venice bars. 

So there you have it. Graphic tees are back! With that, I hope I gave you some valuable tips that will make you want to dig out your old slogan tees or buy new ones.

the new trend… double finger rings.  I saw this beautiful exemplar today at Brandy Melville, a very nice store for trendy fashionistas. This shop deserves to right an own blog about. But this is the ring blog .

When friends saw it today at the dinner table they said: “Can’t you move your fingers anymore now”? It seems to look very uncomfortable but it isn’t. You can’t really spread the two fingers, that’s obvious, but you are not limited in certain movements such holding a fork or glass.

Moreover, I thought about the ring in a more metaphorical way. Imagine, you could wear this ring as a wedding ring. Isn’t it romantic that the two fingers are connected as a “couple” by means of this double finger ring? I liked this thought a lot . Maybe one day I can wear is with the same personal meaning as well.. who knows…

This past Friday, I went to the opening of the new Brandy Melville in Montreal with my friends straight after school. The amount of people that were in the store was pretty insane but it was manageable considering the store is huge. It’s taken a while for the famous store to hit this side of Canada but now that it’s here, I can assure you that Montrealers will be seeing a lot more girls wearing the recognizable clothing from Brandy Melville.

Here’s a trend that is out of this world: Futuristic Fashion!  We can always find retro-styled clothing in vogue but, lately this fashion trend has an extra-terrestrial flare.  The addition of  ”outer-space” prints and patterns updates the mod-retro look like it never has before.  For example, you find star-light patterns on leggings, skirts, and t-shirts.  This burst of colors and optical allusion on one article of clothing is so outstanding that is enough to make just enough of a  statement.  The great part about this trend is that it can update a casual look or make any staple bold.  Other ways to complete this retro look is with the popular wedge-sneaker paired with circular sunglasses and a loose t-shirt.  Here is how you can get the look:

If you must know, I think dogs > cats. I own both, but it’s evident I favor my dog. Doesn’t mean I don’t love my cat, but he is definitely moody at times, whereas my dog lets me be the moody one without complaint.

Cat motifs and graphics have been popping up everywhere and I’ve adopted a few ‘cats’ myself like this sweater. The other day I purchased a cat t-shirt and remembered I have another cat sweater from years back that I plan to take out again to wear. Cats are definitely having a moment, and for now, (at least in the fashion world) cats > dogs.

Today’s #coasttocoastchallenge tested me to go out of my comfort zone a bit with their challenge “Headbands and Hairwraps.” I normally would have just reached for my staple spiked headband, but have seen some of my favorite bloggers (cough cough Alyssa!) wearing their headbands more like a head wrap, and decided to try it! This one was a gift from my best friend Courtney from Forever21. I was scared at first and planned to only wear it for blog photos, but I actually really like the look and am going to wear mine out to the grocery store right now!

I also dyed my hair again over the weekend! This is the color I used last time and I was anxious to have it again. I’m still using the natural ammonia-free dyes and love that I can change my look without damaging my hair!

Summer is creeping up on us quickly, although it may be hard to believe by looking at the weather forecast for this Thursday and Friday (snowstorm, anyone?).  A couple of exciting things have been happening in the last few weeks, and I’m just dying to share it all.  Let’s go.

First, I just got my internship placement for this summer at Lands’ End.  I found out yesterday that I’ll be interning in the men’s department and I am unbelievably stoked.  I was really hoping to get placed there, so I’m outrageously excited to get this party started.

Second, the spring issue of TREND came out last week.  This issue was particularly special to me because I wrote, edited, and modeled in it.  It turned out great and is definitely our best issue so far.  If you’re an ISU student, you can still pick them up in Hamilton, otherwise, here are a few sneak peeks!!

Lastly, I finally got my birthday present from Abby in the mail last week.  What’s sad is that her birthday is before mine, yet I only sent her present out yesterday.  Oops.  She got me a ton of awesome things, most of which are BCBG, since that is where she got her first big girl job!  Among these included a cute Generation blouse, a Generation sweater, a MAXAZRIA wine stopper, an Herve Leger cosmetic bag, a Brandy Melville MEOW cutoff (<<<<dying), and my favorite, a Generation denim vest.  First of all, let me take a second to say, “holy smokes, that is a ton of presents.”  I know.  My gift to her is pitiful in comparison.  But, I am absolutely obsessed with this denim vest.  I keep wearing it no matter what the weather.  Even when it doesn’t make sense to wear it, I’ll do it anyway (denim vests are acceptable gym-attire, right?).  It’s so perfect, you’ll probably see it in another twelve blog posts.  See for yourself.

It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve posted anything, I have been extremely busy with my job, just finishing our annual Global Training Conference which had almost 15,000 people in attendance! The entire week I was bound to black slacks, tennis shoes and T-Shirts, not the greatest uniform, I almost went crazy wearing the same outfit multiple days in a row! As a treat to myself for working roughly 68 hours I purchased my Unif Vapor Moto Jacket. This is such a great piece, while it does feel a little odd when you first put it on you quickly get used to the material. I would however not recommend wearing it on a hot and or sunny day, the material does not breathe very easily. This jacket is perfect to throw over a body-con dress in the evening to spice up your outfit!
