So there I was, thinking about watching some more children in need, left alone in the living room. Then I heard a familiar voice coming from the TV cabinet. It was the tiny devil like voice of the console collective, staring at me through the (thankfully) toughened glass doors, with the alluring antique stain frames and my DIY strengthening to support the weight of my carefully procures 480p CRT TV. Oh yes, ladies and gentlemen, if one is tired of the pixilation and blurring of your average 40+inch LCD or PLASMA monster, fear not my brave souls for there is phosphorous light at the end of your gaming tunnel. It’s a compromise thing really. I wanted a decent TV for my aging console collection. I wanted something for my Gamecube component cable to get excited about. So, just before the price of an LCD dropped to the same price as the valves and glass monster I bought, I had a 36 inch CRT delivered and installed by a small army of bench pressing techies who seemed to be giggling at me. Did they know something I didn’t?

Yeah, they knew that the Bravia I wanted would be £700 next month.

You live and learn.

Jag passade självklart även på att köpa på mig lite film så jag kan njuta av vår nya leksak direkt. Vi har iof 2st BD filmer sedan innan , Click & Terminator 2, men ändå, man vill ju ändå ha lite nytt när man ändå investerar eller hur?

Transformers 1 & 2 – Mega Edition (4 disc), Rec, Cloverfield, Hellboy 2, Stargate, Inglourious Basterds

Tyvärr är det fortfarande för dyrt att köpa BluRay (BD) filmer till fullpris, speciellt boxar så som det ser ut nu får det bli att rota runt i billiglådorna och kika efter kampanjer ett tag till. Boxar får köpas på DVD så länge tills priserna sjunker. I stort sett alla filmer som jag köpte nu är på kampanj på cdon, men Inglourious Basterds vill jag ha direkt den kommer så den fick det snällt bli till fullpris. Transformers filmerna är dock ett måste så även den fick det bli köp på direkt, dock till ett lockande specialpris på 399.- Så från och med nu kommer jag inte bara tipsa om köpfilm på DVD utan även på BluRay.

Sony’s Bravia Internet Link, seen first as a $300 add-on box and later as a built-in component on some Bravia TVs, will finally support the only movie streaming service that really matters. That’d be Netflix, in case you were wondering.

Last year, YouTube kicked things up a notch by allowing HD video to be uploaded. The catch? 720p was the highest resolution it was going up to. Videos that weren’t in HD to begin with were upscaled to 720p. Remember when the YouTube video box was a square? Then it became a rectangle? That was last year. 720p is considered to be the starting point of HD. But true/full HD is 1080 progressive lines being thrown in your face at once.

What is 1080p? In short it’s any video that complies with the resolutions of 1920 x 1080. That means 1,080 vertical lines being lit up at once. What you will get in your video are ultra crisp details. I’m talking incredibly sharp video. True story: I was at Virgin Megastore a few years back and they had a 46″ Sony Bravia HDTV hooked up to a Blu-Ray playing broadcasting Pirates of the Caribbean 2 in 1080p. I could actually see the little pores on Johnny Depp’s face. That’s how clear 1080p content is. I was sold on Blu-Ray being amazing. I just don’t have the money to get the entire rig.

With more and more HDTVs being sold, YouTube has to continue to provide content that accomodates them. People want their 1080p videos.  Cheap video cameras with 1080p recording are already replacing 720p ones.

All of this is meaningless unless you have the necessary hardware to take advantage of 1080p. I’m talking 1080p monitor or HDTV. Watching 1080p video on your 10” netbook won’t look significantly different than watching it in 720p, because the resolution on the machine won’t pack the pixel density that is necessary to see all the details that 1080p video is supposed to reveal. Really, the best way to take advantage of 1080p content is with big screen. I’d say 32” and up.

1080p videos will be very nice, but with it also comes bigger video files, which equates to longer uploading times. While, I don’t see 1080p fever becoming the mainstream for at least a year or two to come, YouTube is planning ahead. Get ready for longer buffer and loading times, because it’s going to happen!

The display menu cannot be read from 10 ft away (my Chair), The bar across the top is disconcerting, even tho it disappears n seconds. The directions are not clear to me. I doubt it will last the 23 years my previous Sony lasted! However, the tV fits my apt, the color is great, and I am adapting to it. Sooner or later I will figure out the instructions.

The height of nerd rage?

Decades of aggression toward game consoles and peripherals continue today with the release of this rather awesome image depicting a DS console being blasted through plyboard wall. I’ll stand up and admit that in my youth I have chucked a few joypads on the floor in a spate of nerd rage over such titles as Kid Chameleon (anyone else remember that absolute bastard of a chase level with the giant drill wall – nnnnghh!) – but this is something else.

It’s a pretty neat image though, hot on the heels of the recent Playstation 3 VS Sony Bravia advert that was recently shot by Sony of Australia. The clip shows what happens when you launch a PS3 at the television in painfully slow motion.

Although the advert is an absolute waste of money it looks brilliant. Check it out below the cut (Thanks to Gizmag for the clip)
