Have you ever thought about how your workplace affects your mood and even your productivity?  Many employers don’t realize that a freshly updated work space can inspire almost any employee to do their best.  Here are a few focus points:

Space – Make sure there is plenty of space for employees to do their job.  This isn’t limited to their actual work area, but also be sure that all walkways are clutter free, and furniture is designed and set up to allow an “open feel”.  Organize and store office equipment and supplies so that they are out of sight.

Color – When choosing a carpet for your office, select the same one for the entire office.  Don’t pick different colors and patterns for different areas.  The same carpet will make the office more uniform and not allow any area to be more or less appealing than another.  Keep the paint light in color and pleasing to the eye.  Lighter colors make people feel happier and in turn, they will be more productive.

Light – Use as much natural light as possible.  If you have the availability of windows, try to position desks near the windows so that they will benefit from the natural light.  Sunshine lifts your spirits and makes most people feel good.

Break Area – Create an inviting spot for employees to get away from their work for a few minutes and take a break.  Make the area comfortable and encourage employees to take their breaks in that area.  Try playing some relaxing music to help them clear their heads so that when they return to work after the break, they will feel refreshed.

Plants – Have some live potted plants around the office.  The greenery will give the office a cheery feeling.  And occasionally, put some fresh flowers around the office.  The color and light scent will brighten just about any mood.

These few simple ways to freshen up your office can increase productivity and create happier employees.  And remember, happier employees enjoy coming to work and stay at the same job longer.
