Gata. Sunt.Calma.

Greeting doesn’t take much time. Most greetings are just one word or two, and is easily done in just one breath. Some greetings may elicit a smile from the other person, and a few may spark a conversation. Oddly greetings are seemingly fading in our modern world because many of us fail to realize that this civil act is the first step in breaking the ice between strangers and in creating a welcoming environment. Shop owners should uphold this principle when training their shop assistants. Absence of a greeting when a customer walks in cannot be excused…and likewise as customers, give due respect to the manager of the space and round up your peruse with a thank you and a goodbye.

I had the pleasure to attend yet another POF, Plenty of Fish, local meet and greet at Brew City Gril

I had the pleasure to attend yet another POF, Plenty of Fish, local meet and greet at Brew City Grill by New Port Richey a few Saturday nights ago now. A return to my very first venue….and I had a blast!

It’s so fun to watch the dynamics of people intermingling, to be able to make new acquaintances, to meet the “faces” and actually talk with those that have taken the time to write profiles on “Fish” as the long term and Forum members refer to the site. It’s a great way to meet other singles, men and women and to kindle friendships, that otherwise might never be experienced.

The music was a great mix of 60’s and 70’s and some swing and hustle too….it appeared the best place to dance in the county last night….The dance floor packed….yeehah!!!!! We even have the pictures done in a slideshow with music on you.tube, check out the link below . I haven’t danced so much in eons. And a phenomenal thing, women were dancing fast in huge groups and then a guy would just pop in and dance too….it seemed as if everyone was having a great time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdpxJ5oOjK4

Women beware tho…..it’s not like it was “back in the day”….If you expect a man who catches your eye or turns your head to approach you first and break the ice, so to speak, it’s just not probable. It appears that if you want to chat or meet someone, it’s up to the female to “take the lead” in these golden years. Why? I really have no clue but would love to know…..so if any of you out there could fill me in, I will post your comments….

I sure hope as women we have not intimidated most men, it would be such a shame…..both sexes have undoubtedly had difficult experiences and the lack of attention, companionship and laughter and touch has affected all of us, different stories, same emotions and fears I would believe. It’s uncomfortable for some to just walk up to someone and start talking or introduce your self….but for me it’s ideal. I can actually spend a few minutes assessing the other person and whether there might be a touch of that elusive chemistry many of us hope to stumble upon. At least in person, you meet the “real deal“, it’s not photos from 10 years ago that are often posted online, you get to see the eyes of another, peek into their character and soul if you will and spend a few minutes laughing, smiling or dancing. And the nicest part, unlike going to “bars”….is that you are pretty certain the majority of folks are in the same life raft….single…wanting a few moments of unexpected attention and laughter and smiles and the chances of building a true friendship so much more likely. We all know that anyone can be anyone they choose online, from Nigerian scammers….oh yes, had that experience too, but thats a whole other story. To the unhappilymarried who is seeking solace on the superhighway to escape the situation they refuse to deal with…..to the “new kid in town” who wants to develop friendships and is naive enough to believe the person on a site and all they seem to share. For me, the face to face meeting is so much more…..I adore it.

There's plenty of fish in the sea.....just need the right bait!

In fact, on Halloween, in Bradenton there is a huge state wide gathering….a “tasteful Toga Party”, that in itself might be amazing….to be held at the Marriott there. A roman style hotel near Sarasota too….and 8 hosts from all over the state are encouraging their local fish to attend….There’s a bunch of us from the far western side of Florida that are staying over night so we don’t have the long ride back, but who are looking forward to meeting the folks we probably wouldn’t likely meet that are single and spread out over this awesome state….The hotel is giving the “Fish” price breaks on the rooms and we can dance until we drop! It should be fun and entertaining and a festive way to celebrate the Halloween Holiday! I am geeked to go….and would love it if you might consider it as well. You don’t have to be a member of POF, check out the site under events for all the details….I guarantee, now that I have been to 5 different events in venues here, you’ll have a blast….different folks, different personalities, different stories….all in one place.

SEE COMMENT BELOW AT THE TIME OF PUBLICATION THE BRADENTON ‘TOGA PARTY’ HAS BEEN CANCELLED….BUMMER…READ THE COMMENT!

You really will feel you aren’t alone at all…..there are Plenty of Fish in the sea.….and once in a while we have the opportunity to swim in schools we never thought possible. Thank goodness for online dating sites….and for gatherings of the minds and bodies…..Come on out and join us….it’s just over the bay and across the bridge and who knows, that ”Grouper” or flirty little “angel Fish” you’ve been seeking, just might be there too!

Bring your bait ( your best smile, with or without a toga but puleeeeze wear something!), your rested feet to dance and let’s get out there and swim in the big pond…..because “strangers are friends we just haven’t met yet”. After all, our lives are NOT a dress rehearsal, they are the real thing, venture out from the reeds and move your fins to the music and delight in each moment……

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away”…..try it for your self….it’s a gift worth giving and receiving. It’s sharing ourself with those we meet…..the best part of living your life to the fullest. I will see you there! At Brew City Grill on Saturday, October 17th and also a halloween “toga” party on Friday, October 23rd….check out the details in Plenty of Fish under Events! Or choose your own state and see what kinda fishing is going on there! Regardless, it’s worth the bait to see who you might just meet.

By: Britney Spears

It’s been a while
I know I shouldn’t have kept you waiting
But I’m here now

I know it’s been a while
But I’m glad you came
And I’ve been thinking ’bout
How you say my name
You got my body spinning
Like a hurricane
And it feels like
You got me going insane
And I can’t get enough
So let me get it up

Ooh, looks like we’re alone now
You ain’t gotta be scared
We’re grown now
I’m a hit defrost on you
Let’s get it blazin’
We can turn the heat up if you wanna
Turn the lights down low if you wanna
Just wanna move you
But you’re frozen
That’s what I’m saying

Let me break the ice
Allow me to get you right
Let you warm up to me
Baby I can make you feel
Let me break the ice
Allow me to get you right
Let you warm up to me
Baby I can make you feel

So are you warming up yet?

You got me hypnotised
I never felt this way
You got my heart beating like an 808
Can you rise to the occasion?
I’m patiently waiting
Cause it’s getting late
And I can’t get enough
So let me get it up

Ooh, looks like we’re alone now
You ain’t gotta be scared
We’re grown now
I’m a hit defrost on you
Let me break the ice
Allow me to get you right
Let you warm up to me
Baby I can make you feel

I like this part
It feels kinda good
Yeah

Let me break the ice
Allow me to get you right
Let you warm up to me
Baby I can make you feel
Let me break the ice

I want to be next to her.

But I cannot do that as her friend.

I do not know how to share my life to her,

And share from her life too.

I cannot become one of her friends.

Well this is unselfish love, I am now sure.

And I cannot ask more than what she gives.

I love her more now and questions never end.

From now, how can I better live?

Forget and suppress this crazy feeling.

Maybe to offer her lovely things,

And wait her fall so I can love her forever.

I’m so sick of love.

Time bends and it cannot make decisions.

My brain is paralyzed, it makes no precision.

A Pianocktail is a piano that creates cocktails. Every key is connected to a certain type of drink. So we can make a drink from every melody played. It doesn’t exist. Boris Vian wrote about it 50 years ago. But it would be cool if they do one. Anyway, there is always a way to break the ice. Or explode it. This one is less harmonic, but it makes a lot of noise. You can get a splash instead a nice to meet you. But they say that good endings start bad. Is bar bullshit, but we all know that it’s what’s all about. See scientific demonstration on Wired.

He made a game called Rhythm Heaven and it’s for the DS and the commericals have Beyoncé stari

He made a game called Rhythm Heaven and it’s for the DS and the commericals have Beyoncé staring them. Yes. BEYONCÉ!!! I mean, I’m not a huge fan of hers or anything, but she is HUGE!!! (not size, but as far as Star quality) I think that’s huge. I mean, think about it. The Amazingly popular Utada Hikaru makes a Debut in America and I didn’t hear about it, I only knew about it because… well.. I know everything.. soo not true. And then BoA got some commercials.. but then Tsunku.. who’s group isn’t all that popular (let’s face it, they aren’t that popular in Japan anymore T_T ) and they get BEYONCÉ!!! It’s awesome… I mean, I feel bad for Hikki (but she never should’ve tried to go Mainstream with her music, it sucked, I adore her, but she should never try to be something she isn’t. And BoA rocks, there was actually a dance project and my friend and I danced to one of her songs and EVERYONE ADORED the Song. They were like “OMG WHO DID THE SONG??? IT’S AMAZING!!!” so I helped her. Clearly I adore BoA) but TSUNKU gets Beyoncé?
I’m conflicted… I apologize….
BoA and Utada are HUGE in Asia… not just Japan, not just Korea or China… ALL OF FREAKIN’ ASIA!!! Meanwhile H!P is more of a middle school fad, and while they’ve expanded into Asia (AKA creating a Taiwanese Momusu and adding some Chinese members to the Momusu group) it’s not nearly at popular as BoA or Utada… separately, I’m not adding their star quality together, a 1/955500 if their star power is more than H!P (don’t get me wrong, I enjoy H!P, but as far as popularity goes, it has nothing on BoA or Utada)
Here’s the order of popularity
BoA
Utada

H!P

(Yes, the space WAS needed)

Here’s the order of who got the most promotion in the states:
H!P

BoA

Except that it wasn’t H!P who got promotion it was the guy who is head of H!P who thought of a game, which is tapping… and from what I know, that’s pretty much the whole game, tapping in Rhythm. I didn’t put Utada on the list, because I didn’t hear a WORD about her on the Internet, on the TV ANYWHERE. It sucks, of course Utada tried to go mainstream on this Album, of course without help of people who are experts at mainstream and she only made one decent song. She clearly didn’t think this through, she debuted before and she had people who were excellent with mainstream help her then, but she got no promotion and she was pushing to do music that she wanted to do, clearly there was conflict and she didn’t put her heart into the music. This time around she got people who weren’t into the whole mainstream thing, people who were used to letting the artist do what they wanted to, which is really cool, but Utada was trying to make mainstream music with people who weren’t used to doing that, hence her terrible album. She has amazing vocals, which aren’t even mildly relfected on this album and it’s such a shame, because she IS amazing and this album is just trash. Utada! NEVER GO MAINSTREAM AGAIN!!! And if you do try, get people who know how to play the mainstream game.

Meanwhile BoA ended up getting a really Shitty PV. THANK YOU AMERICA FOR CRAPPY PVs. Thank God the company that she’s under allowed for her to use the Asian PV in America instead of the American version. Really, look at what America did to BoA’s Eat You Up PV, it looks like a terribly made fan-vid, except by someone who clearly wasn’t that much of a fan to spend time actually trying to make it look good. The Moves are just perverse without reason, it’s not sexy, it doesn’t make sense, it’s like, “How awkward can we make this dance” not to mention they had her hair back in a weird pony, I love ya BoA, but NEVER EVER let anyone do that to your hair EVER AGAIN!!! Not to mention they put this really weird make up on her that aged her AT LEAST 20-25 years, she looked like she was 50 or something, it was ridiculous, compeltely unflattering. Just look at the asian version of her EAt You Up PV, it’s clearly superior, and it’s not because it’s from ASia. It’s the fact the producers know the power that BoA has. she’s not just a Siren, she’s not just a sex-object for men to drool over./ she someone who actually can sing and not to mention an amazing dancer. As far as the make up what concerned, because they did a freakishly awful job on Utada hikaru’s make up as well (I don’t know if it was the same people, I’m assuming not) it must be this American thing where they haven’t the slightest idea what to do with Asian faces as far as make up goes. It’s like they put it on for a German face or something, it looked terrible. It’s nothing against Germans at all, I find them AWESOME!!!! But the fact is, you can’t use the same make up tricks on everyone, because they don’t work for everyone. It’s the same thing with colors, some people can pull off certain colors that others can’t. I just happen to have a very agreeable skin type quality and tone, so I can wear any color I want to. Meanwhile I have friends who can’t pull off the same colors I can, I can pull off any colors, it’s true, but when my friends find the perfect color, it shows and although I’d look good in that color too, it isn’t nearly as powerful as some of my friends can play it up. Yay for babbling.

Point is, Utada made a mistake (in my opinion) SM Entertainment SAVED BoA from that humiliating PV (if that was only possible for Utada as well) and Tsunku drives me insane, I hope he gets lots of money from this game and I hope all of it goes into helping H!P.

Anyone heard of Ice Creamusume? There was a huge thing about them, they released an album… and then… what? I need to look into that…

P.S. I put in a lot of unrelated Tags, just to see what would happen

Today’s blog is about job interviews, something a lot of us will (hopefully) be doing a lot of

Today’s blog is about job interviews, something a lot of us will (hopefully) be doing a lot of as the economy gets back on it’s feet. It specifically pertains to actors and auditions. Interviews are something most of us see as a necessary but very stressful part of getting a job. They definitely have that sweaty palmed, I need a drink! factor to them. But they don’t have to!

Meet Neely Gurman.

Neely Gurman

She casts TV, movies, music videos and more. She has a friendly face and seems very welcoming and nice, right? But we actors (including me!) can get pants wettingly terrified going in to meet with casting directors for auditions.

Auditions are really just job interviews. Have you ever had a job interview for anything that didn’t leave you a little damp under the arms? We want a job, sometimes so badly we can taste it, but between us and that job are other candidates and someone in charge of deciding if we are the right fit for it, better than any of the other people available.

We spend eons learning to do the jobs we apply for, whether its actor, rocket scientist or Johnny Knoxville sidekick but we rarely get taught how to interview for jobs. That’s one of the reasons we need more deodorant on the days we interview.

Strong enough for a man... but it can it stand up to a job interview?

The funny thing is we forget that those people in the position to hire us know what we’re going through. They had to interview for their jobs too. They want us to do well, it makes their lives easier.

So I thought I’d ask Neely for some tips on auditioning. If you want to know more than what you read here and also get a little practice at it – she’s teaching a seminar on these very things (see bottom for details).

Neely didn’t set out to be a casting director. No casting director I’ve ever talked to started out dreaming of that career. They fall into it. Some were actors, some, like Neely, wanted to be doing something in the entertainment industry and some started in other areas and found their calling in casting.

She absolutely loves casting, when she has work – “I love the rush, the high intensity of trying to get things done on deadlines. It’s a high stress job but its fun and I love auditioning actors and meeting new people.”

So when you audition with Neely for a role you are meeting with someone who is excited to get to know you and see what you can do. She says, “I try to make actors feel as comfortable as I can and I’ve actually gotten feedback from actors that they felt comfortable in my room. I try to talk to them for a second before and break the ice.”

They don’t all do that. The important thing to remember is that just because someone doesn’t take the time to make you feel comfortable doesn’t mean they don’t like you. Sometimes they seem cold but they may have a million things going on at the same time, they can be overwhelmed and just don’t have time to hold your hand and tell you that you’ve made their day with your presence. (no doubt they’re thinking it, though. I mean, how could they not be? Its you!)

Usually we take it all personally. The interview is for them to see us so anything that’s off has to be our fault, right? Right!?! No. Its good to remember that its not all about us. And sometimes we’re awesome and we won’t get the job because we just aren’t the right fit. But if we performed well and were professional then that casting director will have us back for something we’re better suited for. So its a victory wrapped in a loss inside another shift at that restaurant, right? Well, it is a process. If you want to skip it then you have to make your own movies/shorts/sketches/plays, etc. Lots of us do. You can always be working if you’re always creating work for yourself. That’s also a great way to learn.

Here are a few words of advice from Neely on what to do and what not to do when you audition for a role. If you are looking for any kind of job you can use this as good advice on interviews of any kind:

1. Don’t soothe your nerves with the sauce. “One time I was casting a movie and an actor came in with a 6 pack of Zima or Smirnoff or something like that. He brought alcohol to my audition. He was drinking with his girlfriend outside. That didn’t make me too happy.” Really, only bank officials should ever consider it okay to drink before or during a job interview because they clearly don’t require qualifications for what they do. Save that BS for AIG, people.

Remember Zima?

2. Headshots should look like you. You wouldn’t use a picture that didn’t look like you on your dating profile, would you? “Keep headshots as updated as possible. If you use a headshot that’s out of date and you come in to an audition and you don’t look like that then you’ve wasted everyone’s time.”

3. Speaking of lying on your resume: “Don’t lie about who you are on your resume. Don’t put languages you can’t speak, etc. because if we call you in because you can do something you’ve put on your resume and you can’t do it then you’ve wasted our time again.”

4. When you submit yourself for work read all of the details of the job: “Only submit yourself for work you are available for. I think actors get excited when they see projects online and they submit but nothing is more frustrating than calling them for the role and they aren’t available.” This is like Bernie Madoff throwing his resume in for a job anytime in the next 15-20 years.

5. And be punctual: “If you’re going to be late just have your agent call. We don’t want to wait for you. You should wait for us.”

So those are the don’ts. Here are some do’s that are professional, pro-active and will help you get work:

1. Come in to auditions professional, prepared and with your headshot and resume stapled together. You should have at least 10 headshots in your trunk. I don’t care how famous you are, if you’re coming in to see a producer or director don’t think we’re going to have your picture.”

2. Send postcards every other month or so to keep casting directors up to date on what you’re doing. Don’t send them every week, its just too much. And when you get a new headshot send that on over too.

Casting is a nomadic profession and casting directors are always moving offices. The best way to keep up with them is through subscription sites like castingabout.com. For $9.95 a month you can get up to the minute addresses for casting directors. And for those that are members of the Casting Society of America you can always send stuff to them at:

c/o CSA

606 N. Larchmont Blvd .

Suite 4-B .

Los Angeles, CA 90004-1309 .

Tel: 323 463 1925 . Fax: 323 463 5753

Want more? It is ‘who you know’ in every business a lot of times and sometimes the best way to get to know casting directors is to learn from them and show them what you can do.
So finally it’s here! Three months after her last music video for “Circus”, Britney Spears has released the video for “If U Seek Amy”, and I’ll give you a heads up, it’s nothing like “Womanizer”, and it’s nothing like “Gimme More” because the days where people have constantly chanted “Britney’s Back” succesively are over, there are no awkward moments in the video, no blank empty looks on her face, this is who she is, and the reason it comes off so well is because the video relates around the concept of how the media can redefine and manipulate who you are, but they can never change who you are behind closed doors.

The dancing in this video is pretty decent, in fact the best since Toxic, but to be honest it’s one of those video’s where it focusses more on perspectives and emotions, than choreography. I commend them on that, because her dancing isn’t as good as it used to be, and it’s better to sway away from that for the time being and to play to her strengths.

The video fixates on the new Britney, the mature adult Britney, the one that has brought her public image more down to earth in many peoples minds. Before she was this teenager who could dance and sing, she was talented and sweet. But now her persona is full of dimension, she’s hit rock bottom, she’s become a mother, she’s reached the extremes of fame and infamy, something not many other’s can claim to such a magnitude. She is the archetypical celebrity, she has been the one who has been at the complete mercy of the press, obsessed with bringing somebody down until there is nothing to do but to talk them back up to the top again, it’s sadistic, and that’s why Britney’s vocals in the song express “All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek amy”, everybody is out to fuck her over.

Britney and the exterior

In the beggining she is surrounded by faceless people shrouded in the darkness of impropriety, and suddenly we see her face, in clear focus and bright lights, she lifts her head up and sings right into the camera it really is raw. She walks seductively (something she seems to be doing more than dancing in her tour, but at least she does it well…. right?) to the window, as she contemplates what she already knows, the reality she faces on a daily basis, that outside everyone is seeking this identity “Amy” her public identity, which as the video progresses we learn is nothing like who she really is.

There are people watching her in the video in every scene, until she is shown in pools of white light as she dresses herself up into “Amy” the ideal conservative, woman. As she slowly makes her way ouside holding a pie, we see jump cuts between Amy and Britney, showing the bitterness within what lies beneath, and the eerie confidence of this picture perfect housewife on the outside. We see the house is used as a metaphor to capture the essence of how we all want to seem, and how horrendously different we usually are.

Amy and the media

At the beginning and end of the video we see short fox “news” (And I think we all understand why I used inverted commas there…) clips, the first, a bitter yet “virginal” news reporter who in a real “news” broadcast mocks the songs title saying slowly “If…. You…. Seek…. Amy” and then she dons a bitchy little smile. However at the end of the video she says stupidly “It doesn’t make sense, does it!”. This is executed by the editor so well, because it mocks her for not understanding the hidden meaning of the song.

Great work from Britney and her crew, they have exceeded expectations, and once again proved that whilst the new mature Britney is different from the old one, she is better in more ways than one.

This video recieves 4 stars, it would recieve more if the editing was a little better, there are a few moments that could have been improved. But overall what drives the video is the idea of the underlying message, from the interior of ourselves to the polished and surreal outside, that strives to stifle realism.

You have nothing to worry about! I’m home and well. On our drive back home, we sang songs from the 80’s like “Girls just wanna have fun” and “It’s raining men” with some Britney Spears. Alfred (who’s my homegirl’s little brother’s best friend, Michelle) knew all the songs and that was a bit scary at first but then I loved it. I JUST HAVE TO SAY, THAT I SMELL REALLY BAD!! The car was hot as hell and my legs crossed Alfred while we were singing “Break the ice”… my hair is greasy too haha ughh I’m so gross seriously.

Well, after about a week or so of thinking/praying/planning/choreographing we have decided to hold off on the dancing. (I still dance in my kitchen sometimes) but as far as planning a dance for our contribution party, we feel like we need more than just six weeks to plan it. (i 4 one have never choreographed a dance with strong intent in less than 10 weeks…it takes a bit longer than that)

The thing is we wanted to create a dance program for anyone to be able to improvise and choreograph based on things going on in their lives, and encourage them to use scripture to show that. If we, as the organizers, are not organized, then the program will not work. It is easy to just start dancing and coming up with stuff, but that is not the point. i 4 one want Jesus to be celebrated in everything we do, and if we are too focused on our own wants and desires, that won’t happen and won’t be clear in our choreography. We want God to speak to us through our dance, so feel we should continue to pray and ask God for direction.

We might still give a brief description of our mission and idea and having a little solo improv section by Tay and Cameron, but it seems like God is saying “wait” on the big stuff. Sometimes God says “wait” and that is A-OK with me!

We want people to come on board who share the same passions and yearning to share Christs’ love through dance and hip hop. We are so excited to see what God does in Tay and Cameron’s lives. They are fabulous dancers and I really hope that they continue to pursue dancing with us for Christ.

Dance to me is a form of worship. It is giving your WHOLE self to God and saying “THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.” What should stop us? Fear? Our jobs? What others think? Forget about that! We worship God through the way we live our lives and as long as we are honoring HIM, it doesn’t matter how we worship. I would like to leave you with a couple things to look at in the bible about dancing and about worship:

We are to praise God with dancing- Psalm 150v4; Psalm 159v3

References in the Bible to lively worship include DANCE.

Hebrew words that have meanings related to physical movement were translated into English as “rejoice.”

There is to be dancing (and joy) when Israel is restored- Jeremiah 31v4

I have been looking for ways to organize this and have found some awesome prayer exercises. Here is an example i found at this website: http://www.dancingforhim.com/prophetic-dancing.html

; )

MINISTERING TO INDIVIDUALS

Beginning with ministering to individuals, break up into pairs. This is a good one to “break the ice”, so to speak.

Each person, in the pair, ask their partner for permission to minister to each other. Once they have agreement, they close their eyes and pray in the spirit. Encourage them that those who don’t have their prayer language to simply pray with their understanding.

After a short period they should go silent and LISTEN to hear God’s voice, or LOOK to see a vision, or FEEL to sense an impression for that other person.

Once they have obtained something special from the Lord, they should (one at a time) dance out through simple interpretive movement, what they heard, saw, or felt. When one person is finished, and with out talking, the other one then should begin to interpret what they received from the Lord (for their partner).

Once both partners have finished “dancing it out”, they then whisper to the other one about what they meant by their interpretation. It is important to whisper, so they do not disturb the others, in the room, who are still receiving ministry.

Ha ha! doesn’t that sound great! ; ) Anyone wanna try it?

Today I’m updating the blog with some songs by Britney. It includes some remixes and of course Break the Ice. Written by Nate “Danja” Hills, Marcella “Ms. Lago” Araica, Keri Hilson and James Washington, it was produced by Danja for Spears’ fifth studio album, Blackout. The track was released as the third and final single from the album in the first quarter of 2008. The accompanying music video is completely animated and features an Anime version of Spears.

3 years & up. Tap out ice blocks one by one. To win, the bear must stay on top. One wrong block, and he’ll go ker-plop! For 2 or more players. No reading required.

A polar bear is happily skating across the ice. He’s gesturing thumbs up. A big smile stretches his face. Uh-oh. What’s that tapping sound? A block of ice just disappeared from his pond. And there goes another one. The polar bear is running out of room to skate. In Don’t Break the Ice, two to four players take turns wielding plastic mallets and tapping out ice blocks. The goal is to keep the polar bear skating for as long as possible. But as the game progresses, ice blocks start falling faster and faster. And then, there goes the bear! Luckily, these ice blocks don’t melt. The game can quickly be reassembled and soon the polar bear is skating again. This bear might lose his footing, but he’s always got his smile. –Wendy Slotboom

So one of my close friends at uni started asking about my love life, and I answered honestly but som

So one of my close friends at uni started asking about my love life, and I answered honestly but somewhat evasively (as the “gay” thing hasn’t come up yet, and it looks like it’s going to be up to me to break the ice) that I’m not really focusing on that, I’m just concentrating on doing a good job of the course (which is going so so well so far!) and getting myself stable and sorted. I mean, after my events this year where I realised I wasn’t into L when he was so into me, and then I fell for D too quickly only for his ex to snap him back up, and then R thought… well I don’t know what he was thinking, but I am not going to be anybody’s bit on the side; after all of that and more, I definitely am not eager to just run into somebody’s arms.

Nevertheless, I think that a lot of us can relate to the feeling when you’re on your own late at night, and you just wish that you could rest in somebody’s embrace and have them hold you until the morning. At uni with all of the straight older guys on my course, it’s really quite maddening because I know that girls have had crushes on me and find me attractive, and I can appreciate that all the guys on my course are older but they are really solid and normal and genuine-seeming and nice – their partners are really lucky! Gay guys, by and large, are the total opposite of this – trying too hard to be something they are not, or abiding by the laws of a stereotype or rebelling too hard against it. I guess maybe it’s a maturity thing (I’m the youngest by a fair bit – the average age of the students on my course is 30 or thereabouts), and I’m certainly a work in progress too, but I just want a guy who feels comfortable in his skin and can give me his all and accept my all in return without either playing games or clinging too much to me.

I was on msn the other night and suddenly B comes online. By this point, it’s been a month since we even spoke, and I just presumed that he had gotten bored of me or wanted his own space or had better things to do. After all, I have better things to do than just wait around for him to be in the right mood, so I guess our drifting apart was natural; I had moved on. So he tells me that he has been meaning to contact me for a while and had felt bad for leaving it so long (what, was his phone broke? He had been online at the same time as me on other occasions in the interim, and I had noticed his online profile on the dating site I’ve been frequenting a lot less recently), and that he is currently seeking a diagnosis for adult ADHD. He asked me to google it, so I looked it up, and I don’t for a second think he is lying – he’s been fairly upfront from the jump about his emotional and psychological instabilities. His current difficulties with a new job at his local salon (he was previously a mobile hairdresser so it’s a promising progression for him) and what I know of his previous problems all tally up – it makes sense to me, and I try to be as supportive as I can without crowding him or suggesting that he can rely on me – after all, although at one point it looked as if things were gonna get popping and that I was developing strong feelings for him, it fizzled out because he kept disappearing on me. I mean, with a condition such as depression or ADHD, it is understandable and I can accept his excuses and reasons… but the question remains, What am I supposed to do about it? What does he want from me? Does he want just a friend? Does he want something more than that? Does he think that I am just going to wait around patiently while he sorts himself out and decides?

I don’t know what to do about it, but I guess the best thing is to do nothing. I have uni to concentrate on, I have driving lessons to buy, I have my part-time job and my weight to keep down (still don’t know where the gym is going to fit into my current schedule :S) and my friends and family and my music. I don’t need to worry about whether B is ok, when he’s going to talk to me next, and what he’s going to tell me. I sincerely wish him the best, and maybe in the future something could work if our circumstances mesh and he comes correct. Until then, I’ll chill with my new friends at uni, and wish that I could meet someone who was real and mature and funny and cool like them, but who would also like me back without being the wrong gender!
