Aujourd’hui je suis de bonne humeur malgré le mauvais temps mais j’ai décidé d’offrir  les cocos. J’ai quitté les cours super tôt et me voici sur mon vaio entrain d’écouter de la musique à la recherche du morceau qui tue ça mère à foisse les cacahuètes les bananes flambées. En faisant chauffer mon winamp, je suis tombé sur des vieilles retrouvailles planquées au fin fond de mon dossier éléctro (en vrac). Faites chauffer vos oreilles car ça envoie du lourd !

where the hell have you been?!

my first glimspe of the o2. it did fill up.

so i went to spandau ballet in the o2. tony hadley dedicated true to stephen gately (rip). the whole crowd sang along (as much because it’s the band’s most famous song as anything else) and what was amazing was that i could still hear the band properly. maybe that was because i was two rows from the back, but anyway, i was still impressed.

friday night i hit the button factory for the ed banger night – i was hoping so me would be kind of kooky and weird, but he wasn’t that far outside of the ed banger mould. breakbot played some cool tunes, as did busy p. unfortunately i had to leave a little bit early so missed most of feadz’s set, though what i did hear was excellent as usual – such as a bmore version of the tetris theme (!) and bangalter’s outrun.

the following night i paid a visit to oktoberfest at chq, which was, in a word, surreal. there was a big hall, there were lots of benches and long tables, and a LOT of paulaner. that much i expected. i didn’t expect the chant/refrain of german nonsense, or hearing cotton eye joe, macarena and lots of dj otzi.

what was less surreal was jokers of the scene at colortv in wax. that was just great. except for the “random” body search on the way in – i’m thinking of getting this tee in protest. but that aside, it was awesome. the boys played a fantastic set – it was full of excellent techno, most of which i didn’t recognise, but it was expertly peppered with some of their own productions and remixes. it would have been easy for them to close on the unstoppable baggy bottom boys but they just kept on going. excellent stuff.

so today and yesterday i took it easy. i watched some generation kill, some peep show, and finally finished watching let the right one in. i liked it, less than the book (as is generally the case), but i thought it was an interesting and faithful, if hugely condensed, adaptation. i thought the book was exceptional in its detail, while the film was impressive by virtue of its use of vague suggestion and implication – brush strokes rather than minute detail.

this weekend i’m looking forward to the juan maclean, in flagranti and the field at tripod, and then i’m supporting mustard pimp on saturday at transmission. i’d love to be hitting some of the deaf nights, but alas i’m working almost every day so i don’t want to spread myself too thin! i did this weekend and it’s tough going. i’m getting old…

Bacardi B-Live who have previously worked with Chromeo, Metronomy, The Twelves and Breakbot drop another bomb in the form of Drop the Lime (aka Curses!) with his latest track, “Devil’s Eyes”.

You’ve got to love someone with an identity crises – more so when they’re that talented that they can pump out quality tunes ranging from distorted haunted house to rave, jungle and dub step… This latest track however – with its pop friendly vocals and undeniable heavy jungle bass – may just be enough to pull him out of underground appreciation into the realms of “commercial” success.

Rumour has it that DIPLO, CLASSIX and UK grime-kid Kanji will all be turning their hand to remixing this track which can only mean further big things to come.

Nesse sábado vai ter show do Sebastien Tellier no Circo Voador. Me amarro no som do cara. Não é uma coisa muito convencional, fácil de ser ouvida e entendida. O cara tem um estilo bem peculiar.

O disco mais recente, Sexuality, foi produzido pelo Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, um dos Daft Punks. Dá pra sacar na foto acima, usada na divulgação mais recente, o “robô” Daft Punk sobre o ombro do Tellier. Mas o som dos dois não tem nada a ver.

Mais do que nas músicas originais do Tellier, eu me amarro nos remixes. Tem gente boa remixando o cara. Nomes como sebastiAn, A-Trak, Danger, Kavinsky e Moulinex, dentre outros.

O remix do sebastiAn é absurdo de bom. O cara reconstruiu a música, com o seu toque, o seu estilo. E daí veio o Hood Internet e fez um mashup pesado do remix do sebastiAn com a música 100 Million do Birdman. O Danger também pesa a mão no seu remix, sem perder aquele estilo meio video game de terror que ele me passa. Os remixes do Moulinex e do Breakbot seguem uma linha mais disco, muito bons também.

Sorry for the hiatus- I made the unfortunate mistake of placing an ‘empty’ beer can on my windowsill and a strong gust of wind blew through and knocked the can right onto my laptop keyboard. Sucks. The Apple Store  ‘genius’ guy told me the logic board was damaged, so I didn’t touch it until I received another macbook. Got it for a good deal, too. So for almost two weeks of being down, now we’re up & running once again!

I’m sure some of you kids probably heard this last night in LA. West coast party favorite, Them Jeans, threw together a new remix of The xx that has caught my ear the other day, adding to the sizable list of remixes that he’s completed within the last couple years. Like this track? Check out The XX’s single, Basic Space, that came out earlier this month when you have a chance.

The Metronomy remix of Joakim’s “Spiders” became recently available on K7 Records, that is coupled with the original as well as another track titled “I Can See” (Long Lost Demo) that is well worth checking out. Love love love Joakim’s production. For some incentive? Take a listen to Joakim’s rework of the Metronomy track “Not Made For Love.” It’s a nice lo-fi listen that will be sure to leave a smile on your face.

This time it’s another heavily vocalized piece, originally done by Severin, titled “On The Edge of a Sunday” that fits in quite nicely with Breakbot’s previous works. Nobody captures a carefree, bubbley vibe like Breakbot does. Looking forward to the full-length that Breakbot has been working on lately, that will be out later this year on Ed Banger. Also check out “Penelope Pitstop,” another track of his that’s been floating around.

Severin – On The Edge of a Sunday (Breakbot Remix)

David E. Sugar comes off the back of the dance life in London. He writes his own music, regularly produces and is doing one of those “song a week” internet things I always find a bit tacky…
But he’s got a good breadth of music, from chilled symphonic to egdey rock. And sometimes just mental electro trance. Good for spinning in circles. Essentially the best part about this excitable nugget is that he can write a good melody, rather than just relying on beats and experimentation with sound.

I first heard David E. Sugar on the Kitsuné compilations with the beautiful Although You May Laugh and menacing To Yourself.

Of course being a producer his remixes are also a lot of fun. Fortunately like The Twelves and Breakbot, David E. Sugar has posted his own dj set, which can be downloaded for free from his official website.

I’ll be finding more of David E. Sugar’s music in the coming days. Then jivin’ in my socks.

My Friends, lembram do Breakbot, o novo projeto da Ed Banger, pois é, ele fez um master remix para uma faixa do duo mais maximalista do mundo, o Justice.

O remix não deixa de ter em si o maximal pesado e puro do Justice, mas esbanja uma melodia cintilante e harmoniosa a som de contra-baixos, uma coisa de outro mundo.

E pra felicidade de vocês trouxe também outra faixa, agora um remix do Justice para Klaxons, como é de se esperar ele é cheio de contra-baixos superfudidos e batidas na linha de maximal remix mais legal possivel.

Como vocês sabem, ou deveriam saber, os Klaxons são os “pais” do new rave e tem faixas remixadas por diversos projetos músicais do mundo, mas de tantos remixes que já escutei As Above So Below (Justice Remix) foi um dos remixes que mais me agradou, e com certeza agradará muita genty.

Penelope Pitstop, isso mesmo, esse é o nome da track que mais tem me deixado feliz esses dias. Track que foi feita pelo Breakbot e relembra aquele tempo em que eu ficava o fim de semana todo assistindo corrida maluca e vendo Penelope correr com aquele carrinho rosa sintilante, eu sinceramente sempre torcia pra que o Vigarista ganhase, mas isso é outra historia.

Breakbot é mais um dos projetos da Ed Banger e tem um som de excelente qualidade, e os contra-baixos fudidos iguais o do Justice, Breakbot tem tudo pra ficar tocando no seu player durante meses, só espero que Ele também faça uma track pro Vigarista, afinal o Vigarista era quem dava um ar de graça aquele desenho chato do seculo XX, mas marcou a infancia de muita genty, até mesmo a minha.

It was during one of those swelteringly hot days along the French Riviera that I first discovered Breakbot, you know? One of those days you wish you could take off all your clothes but there are people around who might be less than impressed/extremely aroused with a sudden display of flesh. The year was 2007, but the month I cannot remember, I was young, care free and my cherry was ready to be plucked, plucked by the steady beat and slapped up bass of a Breakbot track. The song was in fact Breakbot’s re-interpretation Pnau “Baby” if I recall correctly, more than the D.A.N.C.E wannabe that it was slated to be, It was my gateway into the Bot’s torn up disco universe. There are really no comparaison’s to draw from Breakbot’s style because he’s got the knack of sounding distinctive yet never boring. If I was a lesser person I would say Mr Bot I’d say something roughly amounting to Breakbot = Breakbeat + Disco tendency + Sunny beaches n’ buck naked ladies, being the man that I am I’ll say that the Bot’s tracks are equally perfect for a afternoon of leisure around the pool as for a 3am feet-shuffler in you’re nearest “bar dansant”.

I’ll hedge my bets on Breakbot making it big in the near future, the lad has gone and got signed to Ed Banger! Albeit only shifting from the already quite respectable Moshi Moshi label. Hopefully the move will allow him some much needed exposure and shunt him out of the obscurity of the funk stankin’, disco dust filled, bass bunker of a Parisian basement I’d like to imagine he resides in.

Oh and before you go, here’s a treat courtesy of Breakbot himself, a little mix that is pretty much representative of what he tries to achieve through his own music. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, a bit of fairy powder et voila! Enjoy
