Hip Hop no es un estilo de música, es una forma de vida. Tiene sus propias melodías, su propio estilo de vestir, sus costumbres y su lenguaje. El Hip Hop está presente, está en la calle para todo aquel que quiera compartirlo.

Pero os diré lo que no es Hip Hop. No es violencia, a pesar de que ciertas bandas callejeras hayan usado esta identidad para definirse. No, Hip Hop es una música que libera, es una forma de vida en la que se busca el respeto (y para que nos respeten es imprescindible respetar aunque eso no nos guste tanto).

Quizás con estos principios claros en Ecuador varios artistas se han reunido para grabar un disco, “Rapsurreción”, en el que intentan con letras contundentes denunciar el consumo y tráfico de drogas o denunciar el maltrato, así como alentar contra el trato de personas (es decir, vender seres humanos como esclavos antaño o el tráfico de mujeres para forzarlas a la prostitución).

El disco, que cuenta con 12 temas, será distribuido de forma gratuita y estará acompañado de charlas educativas para jóvenes en Quito, la capital de Ecuador.

Orígenes del Hip Hop (grosso modo)

El Hip Hop tiene como antecedentes la música africana occidental y afroamericana (como los poetas y cantantes nómadas griots de África), así como los discursos rítmicos que se ayudaban del jazz para transmitir mensajes contundentes (como The Last Poets).

Como tal surgirá en 1970 con las ‘Block parties’ (o fiestas callejeras que se daban principalmente en el Bronx de Nueva York) acompañadas de soul y funk. Más tarde los primeros Dj’s comenzaron a aislar la percusión que conseguía ritmos más bailables (algo que ya se usaba en Jamaica).

DJ Kool Herc será el responsable, junto a otros Dj’s, de la creación de los MC’s (originalmente “maestro de ceremonias” que comenzó a recitar sobre los beats) y el baile (el mejor movimiento se reservaba para el break o el parón momentáneo de la música de donde surgirá el breakdance y el b-boy o break-boy).

The dancers are from all around the Big Island, many from Hilo and Puna. Full disclosure: one of the kids in the video is my son. But I love ‘em all like they’re my own. Check out how good the little kids are.

I am currently at Isko at the UP shopping center. I still have over 16 items on my to-do list for this week, and among them is making this blogpost. Unfortunately, Globe Broadband is down in the Metro Manila area, and I cannot do this from home, however much I want to.

Last Monday, I went to the dermatologist for the first time. (Yes, my skin has lost its virginity!) People have told me how painful it was, but I never paid them any mind. If I could survive a laceration on my foot being sown shut without anesthesia, then I could survive a couple of pinpricks to the skin. Goddamn, was I wrong.

It started out okay, I suppose. I was falling asleep when they started with my forehead. I really didn’t feel much of what they were doing at first. It was when they got to my nose that I really started to get, to say the least, flustered. This brings back the memories of that childhood injury. I accidentally jumped on a broken beer bottle, heavily lacerating my foot and big toe. I was losing quite a lot of blood, and I was rushed to the hospital. When I got there, they said that they had no time for anesthesia now, and began stitching up my foot, after they had staunched the bleeding with some pressure. I WOULD REPEAT THAT EXPERIENCE GLADLY IF I WILL NEVER HAVE TO FEEL ANOTHER BLACKHEAD REMOVED FROM MY FLESH AGAIN.

It wasn’t actually that painful. It was an excruciatingly irritating sort of pain that made me want to punch the dermatologist for every little prick on my nose. Unfortunately, I’ll have to come back someday, for the sake of vanity. And when I do, I really hope that I have less or no blackheads. Fuck blackheads.

I attended my first breakdance competition last Saturday. It was at an event called “Upshot 3.1″, a charitable event hosted by the Baby Girls Crew Productions at Club Phi, of which my sister is an affiliate and member. It was also her birthday that day, and I say, it was a fine way to spend one. It was an awesome experience, and I’d like to congratulate the New System Dance Crew on their amazing performance. Unfortunately, they don’t have a website, but they have vidos on YouTube, should anyone like to watch.

On Friday is my own birthday, and I’m quite excited about that. More about that soon enough. Right now, I have to go home and do 3 reaction papers.

A couple days ago I shot the Instant Noodles Crew, a bboy crew based in Los Angeles (it’s Rob’s crew). If you haven’t heard of Instant Noodles Crew, they have members in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, but they are all originally from Taiwan. Crew members are Geo Lee, Rob Tsai, Chuck Maa, Tom Tsai, Chris Kuo, Mike Yang, and Charles Lee. They performed at KIIS FM Summer Dance Crew Competition as well as at World of Dance in the bay. Keep a look out for more performances by them!

Ora ai está uma grande maneira de passar o tempo (Ver video abaixo)!!…

Bem para ser sincero esta não é de todo a melhor maneira de passar o tempo no entanto é sempr engraçado depararamo-nos com cenas / pessoas originais e esta é mais uma dessas situações.

 Uma agilidade manual fora do comum que “encanta” os curiosos por cenas “para-normais”!!! 

Initial nu stiam ce sa fac cu pagina asta, insa stiam ca trebuie sa am o pagina Rock On Crew! Iata ca acum o si am…”de-adevaratelea”! Dupa un indelung proces de gandire de…hmmm…3 minute…m-am decis si care va fi scopul ei. Asadar, in Home o sa vorbesc despre de toate, despre evenimente, despre ce-am facut, latura exterioara, un fel de “after party” si…despre mine…asa, cand ma mai bantuie talentul.  “Rock On Crew” va deveni, astfel, un fel de pagina a trupei, pe segmentul de informare, istoric, membri, fun facts, intamplari de pe la sala…si altele. Toate astea…bineinteles raportate la timpul disponibil. Asadar…pe curand!

Lately I’ve been trying out all sorts of new stuff. Today, I had my first go at breakdancing and I soon discovered that it is much harder than it looks. My friend and I started (and I guess ended) the night with some pretty basic stuff but give it a few months (years) and I’ll be bboying like a pro. Also an interesting thing I noticed while at breakdance club was that everyone there (my friend excluded) was a minority. There were no white people there, which is strange considering it’s Wisconsin and well it’s a widely known fact that 99.9% of Wisconsin is white. Guess I found the 0.1%.

Other than my amazing new dance talents that I am about to unleash onto the world, not much else is new. School is still school. I did find out today that apparently no one on my whole floor is an econ major so no one can help me with my homework. How is that even possible? One of the most popular majors and not one person on my floor is in it. Just my luck.

Here lies the weekly blog about blogging. Last week we had a talk by RBI head of blogging Adam Tinworth, who paced up and down the room telling us about something quite interesting, called the hierarchy of interesting (look, I didn’t invent the name). Just as an experiment, I thought I’d put it into practice. Let’s see how it goes.

Essentially, the way it works is by saying there are different ways of making plain, unappealing, uninteresting text – you know, such as that written by TS Eliot, William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, JK Rowling et al -  “hyper”. Apart from simply using amphetamines, that is. These methods are ranked by how interesting they make a piece. So let’s choose a topic. Panda bears.

First off is the simple link.  It doesn’t do much; but it takes you to a forum which isn’t just me babbling on. Netxperts used to think this would draw you away from my lovely blog; they later realised they were wrong. Instead, giving you corroborating evidence and interesting titbits makes you trust me – and more likely to come back for reliable, ‘cool’ information in the future. So that’s pretty interesting.

More interesting is the humble photo.

All pretty self-explanitory. So then, one more level up and pretty near the top, is context. So far, I’ve just been chucking stuff at you. And you’ve been clicking, like a fat lemming. So to make all this assortment of info extra-specially interesting, Mr Blogger should say why it’s all there, taking the role of the editor on a newspaper.

What makes a smoker so special? Why do they get to take breaks more frequently than the rest of us?
If I smoke cigars, do I get a cigar break? That would be about a 30 – 40 minute break mid-day. That seems fair, doesn’t it?

What about a hookah pipe? Suppose I smoke a hookah pipe as per my local custom, my tradition, our tradition [roll the 'r' to generate Fiddler effect.] Does that mean I get to sit down outside the office, fire up some charcoal briquette (sp?), whip out the ‘ole apple flavored ‘bacci, and bubble away? (Bubble away as per the sound of the inhalation and water reaction to that inhalalation.

And what’s up with the spelling of briquette? How did we get from brick to briq, to bricket to briquette? Why didn’t we completely usurp that word from the French?

El hip hop es un movimiento artístico que surgió en Estados Unidos a finales de los años 1960 en las comunidades afroamericanas y latinoamericanas de barrios populares neoyorquinos como Bronx, Queens y Brooklyn, donde desde el principio se destacaron manifestaciones características de los orígenes del hip hop, por ejemplo, la música (funk, rap, Blues, DJing), el baile (hustle, uprocking, lindy hop, popping, locking) y la pintura (aerosol, bombing, murals, political graffiti).

Afrika Bambaataa acuñó el término hip hop en aquella época, aunque años más tarde KRS One, originario del Bronx, quiso unificar en cuatro los elementos del hip hop: el MCing (rapping), el DJing (turntablism), el breakdancing (bboying) y el graffiti. Hizo esto con la idea de simplificar la definición de hip hop; pero para muchos esto puede resultar incompleto, ya que existen otras manifestaciones que quedarían excluidas de esta clasificación, como el beatbox, los murales, el beatmakin o producción de fondos musicales (‘beats’), el popping, el locking el uprocking etc. e incluso otras manifestaciones no relacionadas con la música, como el streetball (baloncesto callejero).

A partir de 2005, las ventas relacionadas al hip-hop como música en los Estados Unidos comenzaron a menguar de manera muy severa, incluso llevando a la revista Time a preguntarse si el hip-hop dentro de la corriente principal musical estaba comenzando a morir, mencionando que “el hip hop está colapsando debido a que ya no pueden engañar a los niños blancos, hay demasiada redundancia”^[9] La revista Billboard encontró que desde el año 2000, las ventas de rap bajaron en un 44%, descendiendo a un 10% de todas las ventas relativas a todo tipo de música, lo cual indica que mientras que aún sigue siendo una figura principal al ser comparado con otros géneros musicales, es una caída muy importante del 13% de todas las ventas musicales donde el rap normalmente estaba ubicado.

En el documental de Byron Hurt de nombre Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes, afirma que el hip hop ha cambiado de “rimas inteligentes y ritmos bailables” a la “promoción de la corrupción personal, social y criminal.”

Para no hacer un flood de entradas sobre Google Street View, voy a poner lo capturado el día de hoy por PegMan en una sola entrada.

#1.- Motociclista VS automóvil: El primero para llamar la atención de todos, es un choque entre una motocicleta y un automóvil en México, en pocas palabras… ¡Un pinche accidente! Que solo ocasionó una motocicleta desmadrada, una puerta de automóvil abollada y un cabron inconsciente con pantalones rotos.

Bueno… la neta se cayo sobre su sobrina, nieta o hija… que se yo.
