For all you Jersey heads, you might want to plan ahead knowing that TURNPIKE and PARKWAY (as well as 1&9, if you take that) can get pretty busy around 5PM especially on a FRIDAY. Just some things to note from the grapevine:

• apparently if you’re coming from West Side & rt 440, the traffic lights are non functional? so thats a traffic prone route if not navigated carefully
• taking rt-22 as a shortcut to parkway south works as along as that underpass doesn’t have construction–merging a two lane into a one lane AT the underpass (if anyone remembers this)

I do believe “Eric” is actually Latin for “Lazy Blogger”, so give me a friggin’ break!!! HE HE HE

No, I don’t actually have those problems. My family decided I was lame a long time ago and just don’t expect anything out of me.

I do actually have the problem of hating being alone for the holidays though. Not that I’m not happy with being single. I really am way too good at being single.

No. What I have a problem with is the holiday kissing traditions! You know, the mistletoe and the New-Years-Eve-spit-swap. I have never actually had the opportunity to take part in any of those traditions! (at least I don’t remember any, which tells you how lame my dating life has been, since I know I’ve had at least one girlfriend during the holidays)

As for advice for you…

I say buck up and deal with it this year. No drinking. No drugging. Just take it and say thank you! Because, the simple fact is that the only people that are bothering with the questions obviously don’t know you or your life. So they don’t f-ing matter! Besides, it will make the flight to London that much sweeter, knowing that you have thousands of miles of ocean between you and the questions!

And heck, if you don’t like that idea, well… I’ll give you my phone number. They can call and talk to me. I’ll be your American lover that met you on an impetuous trip to Mexico City! The distance and family obligations here kept me from making it down there during the holidays.

You can tell them I’m planning on meeting you in London, as I too will be going to University in England. It’s a small Welsh school of animal husbandry (I’m hoping to breed Peruvian Inca Orchids for use as sled-dogs) that you have forgotten the name of. Tell them I am very good with children, but very unsure about my ability to father any thanks to a unicycle accident as a child.

We can work on the backstory more later. I’m thinking Indiana Jones meets Bridget Jones Diary.

Axelrod discusses in his book titled: Terms of Engagement, four approaches to change: i) Leader-driven approach, ii) Process-driven approach, iii) Team-driven approach, and iv) Change Management approach.

Leader-driven change is more suitable for small and medium enterprises with owner-managers. This approach works well when the manager or leader has all the necessary information and knowledge. Leader-driven changes tend to be directive and non-participative. Therefore this approach is less suitable when: a) the workforce is young and/or highly skilled, b) the business environment is complex and dynamic, and c) successful change requires active involvement of a number of people in the organization.

Process-driven changes are led by experts or outside consultants and supported by the leader; these changes are more common in large, bureaucratic organizations. This approach works well when the change requires technical or specialized expertise. Also being directive and non-participative, as in the case of leader-driven approach, this approach is therefore less suitable when: a) the workforce is young and/or highly skilled, b) the business environment is complex and dynamic, and c) successful change requires active involvement of a number of people in the organization.

Team-driven approaches are most common in large, manufacturing enterprises that have skilled and educated employees. Change management strategies—such as TQM, Quality Circles, and Six Sigma—exemplify this approach. These are highly participative change efforts that empower employees and provide them with involvement, participation and ownership of change. Team-based approaches that are properly executed can unleash enormous levels of employee energy and motivation. This can, in turn, lead to innovation and productivity gains. However, using this approach can also cause some discomfort for managers in an organization because they may not be used to sharing their power and authority with workers. Moreover, this approach requires managers to shift from a directive, authoritarian style based on power and expertise to a participative style based on persuasion, coaching and helping. More importantly, the team-based approach to execute change requires the establishment of a ‘parallel organization.’

The fourth approach to change is called the Change Management approach. This is a combination of expert-driven and team-driven approaches. Whereas the former provides a business and technical focus to change, the latter generates ownership, involvement and commitment. So as to gain this commitment, most specialists, experts and change management consultants have incorporated the parallel organization concept in their process-driven approach. The Change Management paradigm is the approach to change that most organizations use today. Although it seemingly seeks to integrate ownership of change with practical business focus, the Change Management approach has shortcomings. Instead of involvement and commitment, this approach breeds cynicism, bureaucracy and resistance. It actually disempowers employees, by reinforcing hierarchical top-down management.

I’ve just read an article on news.com.au, about a proposal to pay people not to breed? This is the first I have heard of incentives being dished out for non-breeders rather than baby bonuses.

AN outspoken Kiwi politician, Michael Law, has proposed a new solution to the country’s child abuse problem – pay the “appalling underclass” not to breed. Mr Laws goes on to write: “it would be far better for this appalling underclass to be offered financial inducements not to have children, given the toxic environment that they would provide for any child in their care.”

I do find some truth in his words. I was quite amazed when before, governments were heavily promoting baby bonuses. Who are we kidding? Who would be more likely to have babies for the sake of the bonus? Answer: Those who need the money to survive – hence lower class people who can’t even support themselves. Therefore, I totally agree with Mr. Law that these measures would be necessary for a class of society where the children are raised in under Parr conditions and left to their own devices from a young age. Kids without proper education and guidance are given no chance of success in life, thus creating a whole new class of “bogans” in place of their parents. It’s a vicious never ending cycle.

Also the amount of abuse and neglect these children receive is downright appalling. In truth it would save the community money in doing so, than to have to cop the bill to deal with homelessness and drug abuse issues constantly in society. Not to say in doing so it will completely curb those problems. However in saying so, how can you be sure that giving out incentives “will” stop these people from procreating?

What is a better measure of doing so? Should sterilization or some more long term measure be considered. What guarantee does the government have when they give out these incentives to these people? But then again, does anyone have the right to make another human sterile based on a decision he or she made at that point in time? What if they regret it later? What would be the course of action from there on? It’s easy enough to just plant the seed of suggestion but the follow up leaves much to be considered.

Yesterday’s Dominion-Post newspaper quotes him as saying: “If we gave $10,000 to certain people and said ‘we’ll voluntarily sterilize you’ then all of society would be better off,” he told the .

I have not updated for a few days. Myself, Ryan, Lauren and Vawn went shopping in Maidstone on Saturday. I had not been shopping there before, and there are some great shops. I bought some new hot-pants from Zara, the ‘Jamie’s America’ cookbook, which accompanies the ‘Jamie’s American Road Trip’ series, my Halloween outfit, some cosmetics and yet another large hot chocolate from Costa. Lauren took some photos, and these are my favourites:
