So here we go…. (be prepared. Honest me is honest again)

The Good

  The entire book of scoring online. Tomorrow I will be downloading this:)

   Nastia Liukin NOT being allowed on the floor. She was seen throwing a hissy fit and crying when she couldn’t try and steal the girl’s attention away in the AA. Gotta love it.

Marian Dragulescu won two event finals Gold medals. His two best events (vault and floor) and I was thrilled to see him come back. Last years Olympics must have sucked for him (with the injury) so it was nice to see him not only back but back and even better then before. I do question the execution scores he got on vault though:)

The Chinese. I am going to lump them all together because even though they aren’t perfect they do have some beautiful gymnastics is some area’s and it was nice to see them clean up like they did a year ago (The men)

: He Kexin She rocks. She is the only BIG reason I am not calling these Worlds a total waste of time.
: Deng Li Lin, After a really rough meet in the AA she hit beam to win in a very weak final but you can only beat who competes so congrats to her
:Yang Yilin It wasn’t her best meet. It wasn’t even a good meet but it was clear she was competing injured. She looks like a different gymnast this year (she grew quite a bit) so in the future I expect her to come back and be the gymnast she is capable of being. I even think she was underscored with all her mistakes here and she and He Kexin are the only gymnasts I will say that about.

Beth Tweddle After falling on her best event in prelims (UB) she was heart broken but she made up for it in the Floor final. No one will ever accuse Beth of being artistic but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something appealing about her routine. So congrats to Beth for over coming the disappointment and winning her first Floor World title.

Lauren Mitchell She was so happy with the two silver medals she won. They weren’t gold and she even could have a case for the Gold medal on beam over Lilin Deng but she didn’t whine. She didn’t cry age discrimination and she was the first gymnast up to hug and congratulate anyone around. It was nice to see that genuine smile on someones face and not the camera hogging phony smile that some of the American girls in the past 8 years have done.

  Koko Tsurumi AA Bronze medal (under scored on floor) and a UB silver is nothing to scoff at when you are from a Country that doesn’t really get much credit. That means you won these medals on your merit

Kohei Uchimura Everything he does

The Women’s AA winning without a fall. Great job Bridget Sloan!!!!

Marta Karolyi not injuring the whole team before they got to compete

The Judges and the execution scores for bad gymnastics. MUCH better then usual.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Unfair…
Koko Tsurumi falling in beam finals. IMO the best routine of the competition if she had not fallen on beam.
Rebecca Bross in the AA. I am not a fan but she was more impressive at Worlds then she was at Nationals and falling and losing that way must suck even if winning an AA medal with a fall is a joke.
The 2009 UB final missing Yang Yilin and Beth Tweddle.
Bridget Sloan not making Floor finals. Her AA performance would have won silver or bronze.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Bad…..

Jonathon Horton He should have known better then to come to Worlds not giving 110% in practice. He just didn’t have enough training to compete with the best in the World. Next time he will realize this and come prepared with enough training. I expect this to leave a bad taste in his mouth and he will do really well next year.

Ksnia Smenova’s entire Worlds.

Double backs in TUCK position in floor routines in 2009. They weren’t good enough in 1992 to make floor finals. While you are at it the double pike’s are just as bad.

PINK leotards on AMERICAN gymnasts?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Ugly….
    Ivana Hong beating Kim Un Hyang in the beam final for the bronze medal. Both had questionable form. Both had a lot of bobbles and both started with 6.000 difficulty score but only one gymnast had a real skill in her routine and it wasn’t Ivana. I have given Ivana a lot of credit on this blog one of the few gymnasts I have given credit but this routine was not worthy of a medal.
China Not sending Jiang Yuayuan to Worlds. She couldn’t be any more injured then Yang Yilin was. Maybe if you had rested her a little this year she would have been fine for Worlds.
That annoying screeching sound they used to let the gymnasts know they had only a few second to get off the apparatus. OMG it nearly knocked me off my chair at my computer. It must have been horrible at the arena.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The sad….

    Ana Porgras is a lovely gymnast and yes she has more style then a lot of gymnasts competing at Worlds this year but if this is what passes for “elegant” and “beautiful” then the sport is in trouble (which it is) I am not taking away ANY credit from her because she is pretty good gymnast and very young but come on people lets not overreact here. Oh and could she smile a little? This is as close as we got to a smile this week.

Jessica Gil Ortiz Falling on her head in floor finals and what a good start to her routine.

When Nastia Liukin won the gold medal in all-around at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, everybody in

When Nastia Liukin won the gold medal in all-around at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, everybody in America knew it. But when Bridget Sloan took the gold medal in the women’s all-around competition at the World Gymnastics Championships in London on Friday, just her family members, friends and some extremely close followers of the sport probably knew of the result. (Sidenote: Every newspaper used a different style for “World Gymnastics Championships.” Whereas all three words should be capitalized, some newspapers didn’t capitalize any of them, some capitalized one and some two.)

When I searched the story online, only the Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times and San Francisco Chronicle carried something that was at least 50 words regarding it. Funny how that works. When Liukin won, it was the biggest sporting news in the world. It was just the opposite when Sloan won.

It’s very interesting to me when a story like this is so dormant for three years, and then all of a sudden it’s like all of the press cares about it. I actually believe some of the most interesting Olympic sports content comes during the off years, when amateur athletes are trying to overcome challenges, lean on their families for support and battle injuries and nerves.

That’s what makes a story move readers and produces an emotional response. And that’s what Olympic sports reporting is typically all about.

This is a must read. Couch gymnast has a blog and she was sitting neat Marta during the World Championships. Read what she over heard.

Couch Gymnast

Or about Peggy Liddick and Lauren Mitchell’s beam routine. She kind of scoffed at the 6.5 difficulty, and then said ” 6.5? I vould not expect a 6.5 from Peggy”

Anyone else find it hilarious that Marta is mocking Peggy Liddick for difficulty on beam? An obvious dig at Shannon Miller I find it ironic that the women that created Kim Zmeskal’s 1992 routines has the gaul to question anyone’s difficulty on any event. Karolyi gymnasts are known for noo difficulty.

To be honest, though, I really got the feeling that Marta was totally gunning for Bross to win over Sloan. Or perhaps it was that she expected, after Sloan’s not great qualifications. When Sloan performed bars and vault she was kind of quiet, or just nodded and yelled no support, and then before beam, when Bridget didn’t get right up on the podium the minute before the girl before her climbed off, she was bitching at Sloan and Sharps, “Vot the hell are zey dooing?” Whenever Bross was up, she yelled and cheered, and called out reassuring “Eeet’s alright Rebecca!” as the little girl waited her turn. It wasn’t until the tide turned, and Bridget hit beam, that Marta started cheering and yelling for her too. It was weird.

Yep this was obvious from the start and I didn’t have to sit next to Marta to know that Bross is getting the “Nastia” special treatment. She can fall. She can tank and she is still treated like the Queen.

Read the blog it has a lot of insight in to just how ridiculous it is to have Marta in charge of USA- Gymnastics.

Couch gymnast gossip. A great read about why Marta is a biatch It also says a lot about how Marta is not checking out the competition. I knew about Lauren’s beam and she didn’t? plus her bitter comments about Peggy show she is still bitter about the past and her gymnasts being owned by Miller.

I am not even commentating on day one. Besides He Kexin and Koko Tsurumi the two women’s events were a joke. A piked vault getting credit for a layout an being awarded a Gold medal is a joke. The bad form or Pogras who is actually a joy to watch on beam and maybe floor getting a bronze medal on bars is just something I want to forget happened.

By the way I finally saw Beth Tweddle’s UB in prelims and besides falling she also hit her feet on the floor and did not repeat the move she fell on which is why her score was so low.

This is the official list for the event finals on day two and it should be noted that earlier the list had Ivana Hong out of Beam finals and Bross in her place. All I have to say to that is this isn’t fucking Russia Valeri Liukin. It’s the United States of America and Ivana earned her spot she better well get to compete in it.

LOL they just forgot Bross on the Podium. She just sat there with a dirty look.lol

First time I wasn’t impressed with Bridget Sloan. She look dis-interested in bar finals. If she had done her AA routine she could have won a medal but she just acted like she was bored to be there. Champions want to win Bridget.

Here are the start lists for the women. I will look for the men. Should be noted that Bridget Sloan improved her bar score by over two tenths in the AA. Koko Tsurumi by almost 4 tenths and Bross by a .25 in the AA from the qualifying score. IMO Bridget was underscored.
Congrats to the 2009 World All Around Champion, Bridget Sloan! Sloan captured the title with 57.825

Congrats to the 2009 World All Around Champion, Bridget Sloan!

Sloan captured the title with 57.825 ahead of Silver Medal Winner Rebecca Bross (57.775) by a tiny margin of .050 after Bross fell on her final tumbling pass. it was the last routine of the meet.

A surpise bronze medalist, Japan’s Koko Tsurumi showcased some of the cleanest gymnastics of the meet. She lead the first two rotations, huge scores on beam and bars. (14.850 and 15.050).

Unfortunately, Romanian Ana Porgras fell off the beam into a 7th place finish. She was up on the podium a long time before the green light, so I think she just got a little unfocused perhaps. She will be a force to be reckoned with once she upgrades vault.

The highest score of the night was rebecca Bross’s 15.300 on balance beam.

Sloan improved her beam (though with wobbles tonight) to a 14.000 from her Prelims score of 13.825. her bars also went up two tenths to a 14.800 and vault also improved from a 14.550 to a 14.825. Her final routine of the night, floor, Bridget had an amazing performance….nice landings and a stuck double pike end. Her score of a 14.200 I actually thought was low.

hates off to 4th place Lauren Mitchell of Australia. .050 also separated 3rd and 4th places, and Mitchell’s OOB on her last event, FX cost her the bronze. Mitchell received a 15.100 for her amazing beam set. Look for this girl in both event finals Sunday.

Way to go everyone!

I thoroughly enjoyed this competition, I thought Bross had it in the bag. I love both these gymnasts, and I thought Sloan demonstrated some amazing sportsmanship today, running off to comfort her teammate before celebrating her own victory. Nice.

Oh yes I have something to complain about.lol

Bridget deserved to win. There is no question in my mind that the scores should have been closer before Bross fell. The fact that Bross fell and is still in second is disgusting. I don’t actually hate Bross though I know it sounds like I do. She showed a lot of class tonight and Alicia Sacramone should take lessons for the way Rebecca acted tonight with a disappointing loss. I have nothing but praise tonight for her beam that was the best of the night but I hate the fact watching the podium made me feel sick to my stomach.

The winner and deserved winner looked miserable. It wasn’t a look of I won I am excited I might burst into tears. It was a look of being scared. Like she was afraid of what might be coming her way next. Heck maybe she expected Bross to pull a Nastia to run around whining that she was robbed of the World title. (That is what Nastia did to Chellsie and then some in 05)

Bridget deserved to have her moment celebrate the World AA title she earned tonight and she didn’t get it.

She didn’t get it from Nelli Kim the supposed leader of our sport who practically ignored the world champ when giving her the flowers even though she made sure to hug Bross and give her two hugs.

I’ll be back later with the scores and a report I just wanted to put how I felt after it was all said and done on paper.

WOW! So many unexpected happenings! I can barely organize a single thought, so I will go through each individual gymnast….

Rebecca Bross- 1st after qualifications WITH A FALL! Considering that 2nd place Romanian Ana Porgras did not fall….this is definitely Bross’s title to lose Friday. No major mistakes should give her the win. An unfortunate over rotation on her Patterson beam dismount made Bross just miss beam finals (14.150). Too bad because the translation of that score would be enough to get the gold. I thought Bross could make UB finals (which she did, qualified 2nd) but I thought there would be no way she would medal. I was wrong. Bross also qualified 8th into FX finals (13.950). Should someone scratch from the beam final, Bross is the 1st reserve. I am excited, because gymnastically, Bross is my favorite right now. I love her style, the way she hooks her hand as she goes into round off. I am conflicted though, because I believe that if Bross is the 2012 champ, WOGA will rule the world in gymnastics, and I would absolutely loathe that.

Bridget Sloan- Had a bit of an off day, qualifying 5th into finals. I feel like Bridget is a 2nd day gymnast…should do better Friday. She did not made FX finals (rough landings) which I expected, and made bar finals, which I actually did not expect. I love her bars though, that piked toe on Tkatchev is awesome! She also fell on beam. But this is kind of like Nationals….hopefully Sloan will pull it all out for Friday….

Ana Porgras- Hats off to the Romanian of the future! She qualified 2nd into the AA, 1st on beam, 3rd on floor, and 7th on bars! I completely expected her to be top 3 on beam, and MAYBE qualify for FX, but wow! Porgras also shows a form and style not typically seen from the Romanians. I now predict that Porgras is to be the new Romanian star of the quad….I will go as far as predicting that she will be back in London for 2012. After watching some videos on youtube, I must say the potential for Porgras is immense. Furthermore, this is her first major meet and looks how she comes out on the first day! This will be a force to be reckoned with, mark my words.

Kayla Williams- QUALIFIED 1ST INTO VAULT FINALS OVER THE OLYMPIC CHAMPION!!!!! Enough said right there. This girl will medal on Saturday. Unfortunately, teammate Bross took over her FX spot for finals.

Anna Myzdrikova- An amazing floor routine qualifies her first. I predicted she would be on the medal stand. She also qualified 3rd into VT finals! Whoo-hoo! Anyone following this blog knows that I am hoping upon hope that the Russians are about to emerge again as a gold medal force to be reckoned with this quad.

Ksenia Semenova- The disappointment of the day for me. She didn’t qualify to any event finals, and is 10th in the AA standings right now

My heart goes out to Beth Tweddle. A large mistake left her from UB EF. She does have a really great floor set, and a stumble on her first pass tells us that she may well take the gold on this event…it is definitely possible.

My official predictions for Finals:

AA

Bross, Porgras, Sloan. I am hesitant between bumping one of those names out and putting in Lauren Mitchell.

VT

Hong Un Jong will pull it out and score gold. Williams will be second, and I think Ariella Kaeslin will end up 3rd over Anna Myzdrikova.

UB

He Kexin is a sure bet for first if she doesn’t fall, it is impossible to catch her if she hits. I think Bross will be second, followed by Koko Tsurumi. Who knows though. Cha Hyong Wa will medal if she goes as clean as she did today. If something happens, and Bridget does not get an AA medal, for some reason i think she will throw the routine of her life and get a bronze.

BB

I think Ana Porgras will be first, Deng Linlin second, and either Ivana Hong or Lauren Mitchell for bronze. We shall see. Keep in mind that 2nd through 8th place are separated by 5 tenths of a point. Deng got penalized for overtime, Hong and Mitchell did not perform their best routines (Mitchell had a bigger mistake I believe–so more potential to score big)

FX

I think Tweddle will rally and pull off the gold for a wonderful close to the competition/her career. I hope she does. I am hoping for Myzdrikova to place second. I think Sui Lu or Ana Porgras will take bronze.

What I have learned this day:

China has the power to rule the world in gymnastics. I am also hoping against hope that as the quad progresses (and juniors become seniors) that Russia will emerge as the greats they once were. Scoring is bizzaro low to me, I can only hope that gets better with the quad. And obviously the scoring tweaks have done nothing to eliminate those who can win with a fall, as Bross is in first with a fall.

As with the Nationals this year, it is such a different experience to watch without super favorites and root for so many people! It is so much fun.

I cannot wait for Friday!

Click here for live updates. I will update this post all day long. Turmoil for Bridget Sloan so far

Click here for live updates.

I will update this post all day long. Turmoil for Bridget Sloan so far, fall on beam and messy floor has her behind Kayla Williams for FX! Rebecca Bross can probably take away the FX Final spot. Ivana Hong is currently 3rd on beam with a good routine (think she had a fall on bars) Deng Linlin also had a good beam set but Romanian’s Ana Porgras leads beam so far!

UPDATES

Beth Tweddle fell and will not be in bar finals Awwww, and neither will Ksenia Semenova

Even with a bad beam set, not her best floor, Sloan is 3rd in the AA with 2 subdivisions left. Deng is in second, Porgras 1st.

Sloan may be making bar finals (yay!) And He Kexin received the only score in the 15’s with a 15.975 on her bar set. (As a poster on wwgym said; Kexin could stop in the middle of her routine, go have a smoke break, and still qualify, hahahaha).

Yang Yilin will not be in bar finals

Fabian has withdrawn from Worlds. The competition just lost a huge threat. It’s to bad he can’t even compete just high bar

Here is what went down at Podium training today at Worlds. The below links are the places I got the info from plus there are some highlights I have provided below from these links.

The All Around forum or what I like to call Nastia fans only

Gymnast Twitter

Sometime today or tomorrow check out gymanstike.com for a preview of the women’s AA. Right now it has a preview of the men’s AA

Bridget Sloan will not be in the 5th rotation and IMO Martha dropped the ball on this. Bridget is the NATIONAL CHAMPION and there is no debate that she has earned the right to compete in the last subdivision. All she has done all year long is win every AA she has entered and Marta not giving her this spot is a slap in the face.

Maybe Marta should take over Woga because it is pretty obvious she only cares about them right now. Rebecca Bross can be the nicest kid in the world but she did NOTHING to merit the last sub division of competing.

Now here is some highlights of the above pages.

  Yang Yilin

: had a clean floor routine but struggled on VT- landed her DTY to her knees.

:struggled with her full in dismount off bars and needed help from her coach on the last giant.

:The rest of the routine was clean, but not as fluid as last year. She kept falling on the dismount in her three attempts.

YYL- sheep jump, onodi to flic – back tuck, switch leap – wolf jump, rulfova, turn with leg at horizontal, free aerial, side somi, switch ring leap, nice ro – 2 ½.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
:Gabriela Dragoi
  n beam performed a front somi, free aerial – flic – layout, turn with leg at horizontal, side aerial, side somi, double turn, ff – ff – 2 ½ off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Chelaru

: handspring front tuck. And straddled DTY, low landings.

She tumbled a full in tucked, 3/1 (crossed legs), clean triple turn, double back, double pike off. She warmed up a double layout.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ivana Hong
: on bars, problems on the overshoot, low Tkatchev, double layout (tucked down). As first contact with the apparatus. Not a full set from her yet.
: on beam, onodi – sheep jump, ff – ff – double pike off. Troubles on the turn in the second beam set of the rotation, falling out of it. Clean gymnastics. Last beam routine, press mount, aerial – flic – layout, turn with leg at horizontal (big wobble), switch leap – back tuck, onodi – sheep jump, free cartwheel, switch ring leap, side somi (wobble), Martha claps…, split jump – wolf jump, ff – ff – double pike off (low chest).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kayla Williams

: warming up some underrotated triple twists.
:double layout, 1 ½ through double pike (fall backwards), 3/1 (a bit underrotated), piked full in.

  n vault did a piked Rudi. It’s not layout, the second attempt looks the same but with a big step back. Huge DTY. She vaults a piked Rudi again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bridget SLoan
:started on beam, front tuck – flic – layout, turn with leg at horizontal. Free aerial – free cartwheel (wobbly), switch leap – back tuck, sheep jump, ro – double pike off. In her last routine, 1/1 split jump, split jump – wolf jump, front tuck – flic – layout, turn with leg at horizontal, free aerial – free cartwheel, switch leap – back tuck, sheep jump, ro – layout off.
:started floor with a 1 ½ through 3/1 (short and low), piked full in (stumble forward), front – front layout,  double pike.
: timers are FTY. Good DTY, without effort.
:problems on toe-on 1/1 on HB. Full twisting double layout, a bit piked down but good. The second one was not that good though.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Deng Lilin

: timing layout Yurchenko several times. Fall on three DTYs attempted. Changes to a 1 ½ Yurchenko, but she falls

:talder to overshoot, endo, endo ½, – Tkatchev, giant 1/1 (bad and lose rhythm), Pak, full twisting double layout (piked down). Not good. Second attempt, labored kip to HS, problems on pirouettes to Jaeger, and piked down again full twisting double layout.

:front pike, flic – ff – layout two feet, free aerial – back tuck – sheep jump, slow on connections, switch leap to Rueda, split jump – wolf jump, side somi, ff – ff – double pike off. A bit wobbly today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kensia Semyonova
: on beam had a big wobble on the onodi – flic combo.
  n beam. Roll mount, switch leap, free aerial – flic – whip, side somi, free cartwheel, turn in attitude, sheep jump, onodi – flic (problems again), onodi – flic – layout, ro – double pike off to crash. Semyonova up one last time since she’s had problems with beam. On her last dismount, she slipped the foot off and landed to her back the double pike off.
  n floor, full in (oob), 2 ½ punch front, 1 ½ punch front, double pike off.
:Yurchenko 1 ½ tucked down at the end to land it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Beth Tweddle

Here is also an article about Beth

  n floor, 1 ½ thourgh double Arabian (stuck), double Arabian piked (big stumble forward), had problems on it in practice too, 2 ½ -1/1.

: on bars fall on Shaposhnikova ½. Piked Ray. Also struggling with the Bi, had to stop the routine twice.

Other rumor that I read somewhere else is that Beth peeled off bars pretty badly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He Kexin
  n bars, her usual routine with legs apart on the Pak and a bit struggle on the dismount. Her second routine much better with only a slight problem on dismount.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sui Lui

:had solid routines on beam, only some minor wobbles on a wolf jump. Front pike to flic – layout, turn with leg at horizontal to full turn, switch ring leap, side somi, free aerial, ro – double pike off. A bit slow at connections.

  n floor, whip – 3/1 (short), 2 ½, triple turn, 1 ½ -1/1, double turn with leg at horizontal, low double pike to finish. Sui Lui warming up 2 ½ punch 1/1 after her routine. At her last attempt, she full rotates the whip 3/1.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ana Porgaras
: free aerial – flic – layout, switch leap,  ff – ff – layout to 2 feet, free cartwheel, switch leap – back  tuck, ff – ff – double pike off (low landing and low chest). The layout to 2 feet is rather inconsistent.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yana Demyanchuk

  n bars toe – on 1/1 – Tkatchev – Pak. Full in dismount.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hong Un Jong
  n vault did a DTY. Tried the amanar but fell, pretty good on the air though. The second one was a bit better. The third attempt also resulted in a fall. The fourth try was higher but slower. Attempts the Cheng but it’s too piked and falls.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Vasiliki Millousi from Greece

: on beam, a solid performance without hesitations; double pike off. Switch leap – back tuck – sheep jump, turn with leg at horizontal to full spin.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rebecca Bross
: toe on 1/1 straddled overshoot, stalder 1/1 – Tkatchev, stalder ½ – Jaeger, endo 1/1 to Pak (fall), to simple dismount. Second set hit, with full in dismount. Another hit routine for Bross. (umm you fall that is not a hit.lol
  n beam, Arabian, free aerial – flic – layout, switch leap – back tuck, sheep jump, side somi, front tuck, ro – double Arabian (fall). So far, she is the gymnast looking more consistent and ready. In her last routine, she only had a small hesitation on the side somi.
: on floor, front handspring – front layout – double front, 2 ½ – barani.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Anamaria Tamirjan

: piked full in, tucked full in, 1 ½ – 1/1, double pike. Uncontrolled landings.

:giant 1/1 – Jaeger, Tkatchev, undershoot, overshoot, double layout.

:vaulted a DTY straddled.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lauren Mitchell
:stalder ½ – Jaeger, toe on – ½ – double front off.
  n beam, her best event, flic – flic – layout to 2 feet, back pike, problems on split ½ leap, attempt of Humphrey, free aerial – front tuck. Swdouble turn in attitude, switch ring leap – back tuck, ff – ff – double pike off low,
  n floor, double Arabian to stag jump, piked full in (a bit low), double pike.
  TY (crossed legs) and big steps to the sides.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Elsa Garcia

  n beam, recovered from injuries, side aerial, side somi, free aerial – sheep jump, flic – whip, switch ring leap, turn with leg at horizontal, ro – double back,

:stuck double Arabian, triple pirouette, 2 ½ punch front (low), double pike.

:1 ½ Yurchenko (bent knees). Podkopayeva.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Becky Downie
  n beam, front tuck, free aerial – flic, full turn with leg at horizontal, switch leap – wolf jump, free cartwheel, side somi,  switch ring leap, ro – double pike off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Not a lot of great dancers will be mentioned below. It is mostly how you tumble these days.

Those with  a  chance:

:Beth Tweddle ( Has huge D score (6.1) and is the current European Champion on floor.)

:Bridget Sloan ( if she nail’s her passes like she did on day two at Nationals.)

: Ksenia Semyonova: (probably too injured 5.4 D score)

: Ksenia Afanasyeva: (6.0 D score)

: Anamaria Tamarjan:  (5.5 D score)

: Sui Li

: Kayla Williams: I hate adding her name because her leaps should keep her out of any medals but she can tumble plus worlds is weak.

: Anna Myzdrikova (kind of sloppy sometimes)

Here is the word on the street… -Bridget Sloan has been rocking the DTY’s couple stuck,

Here is the word on the street…

-Bridget Sloan has been rocking the DTY’s couple stuck, the full twist on the DLO looks great too.

-Kayla Williams doesn’t appear to have thrown the Amanar yet, Rudi is being thrown, legs a bit messy. Changed around floor, triple twist isn’t a a side pass.

-Rebecca Bross is looking well, good DTY, a little trouble on bars, but good releases and stuck landings.

-Ivana Hong- late bar turns, low Tkatchev, what’s new? I must say I love Ivana though! I will be rooting for her on beam. Hopefully she’s fixed up that full turn!

Training Photos can be viewed here

Also, a really great preview can be found here

I am insanely excited! I will be blogging all throughout Worlds, and I think it is safe to say….”I’m back.” One of my grad school classes is Internet Technology/Instruction and I am learning A LOT! I have to make a customized search engine, and I am going to make a gymnastics one! It will be posted on my site when I am done with it, which will be before midnight on Sunday because that is when it is due!!!

I am not linking where I got this stuff from because it is too many places but here you go.

Rebecca and Ivana are having a tough time hitting their handstands for bars.

Ivana is training a DTY so maybe her AA hope is still alive.

Kayla is not used to the equipment and is having a hard time on everything especially her leaps that just aren’t any good anyway.

Bross looks the best of the American girls. One person said Bridget was having a little bit of a hard time but another place reports she looks greats so we just don’t know.

Nastia will be at Worlds trying to steal the spot light from the girls as usual.

Full twist back in Bridget’s UB dismount

Daria Zgoba looked good.

Kayla Williams is now doing her triple full into a diagonal instead of a side pass.

Sorry baseball season is at an end so I am slow on the updates. Later tonight I will have World rumors from different places.
Here is a short opinion on beam chances.

Now this is a wide open event. If any of the Chinese hit I expect them to win out right. With this event you just never know who can hit and win.

Some of the people with chances to make the event finals are:

Sui Lu
Deng Lilin
Yana Demyanchuk (European Champ on beam. 5.9 D score)
Vasiliki Millousi (from Greece led prelims at Europeans this year. 5.9 D score)
(2 of the 3 mentioned below)
Bridget Sloan
Ivana Hong
Rebecca Bross
Anamaria Tamarjan (6.0 D score)
Ana Porgras
Ksenia Semyonova (5.7 D score)
Lauren Mitchell (alleged 7.0 start value. Bobbles a lot)
(Some random Ukraine gymnast that likes to hit once a competition)

The US announced Sunday that the World Team will be Bridget Sloan, Rebecca Bross, Ivana Hong, and Ka

The US announced Sunday that the World Team will be Bridget Sloan, Rebecca Bross, Ivana Hong, and Kayla Williams. The alternates will be Kytra Hunter and Mackenzie Caquatto will be the alternates.

A few interesting notes:

-Although placing 1st on bars and 2nd on floor at the Final Selection Camp, Cassandra Whitcomb was not even announced as an alternate.

-Kayla Williams will perform an Amanar and a layout Rudi vault! In my opinion, if she puts both to her feet, that is a guaranteed medal. And those vaults can DEFINITELY challenge for the gold.

-Bridget put her full twist back into her bars DLO dismount, and added another jump on beam, and a turn on floor. I am still wanting her to throw the triple front full if she gets to FX finals (which she should with a clean prelims performance).

-I am wondering if Ivana and Rebecca have upgrades. I would very much like to see Ivana’s double front back on floor. She has lost a bit of time to a sore ankle and a bout of the flu.

Can’t wait…Prelims in a week!

My opinion:

Bridget won AA at camp both days (camp 2) Good for her. She has done some upgrading adding the full twisting dismount on bars and a dance combo on floor.

If Marta knows that there are new artistry rules in place why is she sending Kayla Williams for floor?

According to Marta nothing is set in stone for who will be competing what. Makes my comment above a none complaining, for now. EXCEPT the fact that I would still use Ivana for the AA and see what she can do. You just never know.

Kayla competing for one event when she won’t even be around in 3 years (IMO) makes no sense.

What a boring team. and it it exactly the team most people thought it would be.

Bridget Sloan, Rebecca Bross, Ivana Hong and Kayla Williams.
The alternates are Kytra Hunter and Mackenzie Caquatto.

Bridget is the National champ so I get her. If Bross hits she beats Bridget but apparently it is okay if she falls all the time she still makes the team because she MIGHT hit.

Now we have Ivana who IMO after Nationals should have been on the team but she tanked the first camp and was even behind Mackenzie Caquatto in the AA and Mackenzie still placed third after falling on beam. Can you imagine how much Ivana tanked to be behind her? Ivana has no shot at an UB medal even if the top gymnasts fall and her beam while pretty decent a routine she has not hit it cleanly once this year. She bobbled through the entire routine at Classics and Nationals.

Cassie Whitcomb won floor at camp one and was second at camp two. She won bars at camp two and was second or third at Nationals on bars and for hitting all she gets is not even an alternate spot?

I am sick of the pretense of even having a camp. Marta sends who Marta wants to send and it doesn’t even matter that Kayla Williams can’t hit even close to the right degree with her dance on floor. If she wins a medal then it just proves how far the sport of gymnastics has fallen.

The line up maybe? Ivana makes more sense on floor then Kayla (she can tumble but has no presentation)

AA Bridget and Rebecca
VT and FL- Kayla Williams
BB and UB- Ivana Hong

Some good news for poor Cassie she will be going to the DTB World Cup in Stuttgart GER in November. Mackenzie will be going with her.

Kytra and Jana will be going to the Croatia World Cup Osijek in November.

Wouldn’t you think the big competition would get the alternates not going to Worlds? Only Mackenzie is going.

Back to the World team. Until we know who is competing what event for sure you can try and figure out who will compete in what sub division. The US has spots in subdivision 2, 3 and 5.

The spot in Sub division 2 starts on Bars, the spot in Sub division 3 starts on Beam and the spot in Sub division 5 starts on Vault.

Starting on beam is tough so it might be best to put Ivana in sub division 3 since that is her big event.

Not a good idea to start Rebecca in that sub division.

Bridget is the National champ I would put in her in the 5th sub division. She deserves that.

Oh so many decisions:)

Here is a little credit for Memmel. Yahoo sports put her picture up in their Olympic section.

Chellsie Memmel has taken herself out of the running for the World team. Makes little sense to me that she flew down to the camp only to turn around and leave and call it a day (for now. She will be back next year)
Her father’s facebook was always positive about what she was working on. Maybe something was said to her or maybe she was smart enough to see the writing on the wall herself. Chellsie’s gymnastics might be a mess sometimes but the girl is tough.

IMO the team will be 4 of these 5 girls though I would not take one of them.

Bridget Sloan
Becca Bross
Ivana Hong / Cassie Whitcomb
Kayla Williams

Jana could be a gymnast taken if she some how competed at camp like she is capable of but highly doubtful. NO ONE can read Marta’s mind.
