When I first glanced through the spring/summer 09/10 collections I never thought I would discover some ghoulish halloween costume inspiration, but I was wrong. Jeremy Scotts collection, shown at New York  fashion week clearly had a bit of yab-ba-da-ba-d00 about it. Channeling the flintstones, Scott used pre-historic prints on ziz zagged hemmed tunics, modern jackets, dresses and mankinis. The hair and makeup added to the Fred and Barney theme- crimped, braided and sprayed, the hair was pulled back into a top of the head floppy ponytail. Brights of green, blue, pink and orange really made the collection coherently stand out into what was a fun-filled typical Scott show. As a result, I’m putting together my own Pebbles costume for halloween and hopefully will look as chic as Pixie and be a modern stone age goddess.

i still love me the bright nail polishes… yup, all year round.

i’ve got fuchsia on right now and even though it might be grey out side i smile every time my fingers pass my eye line!

Had a wedding on the beach down in La Jolla yesterday 9/12.  I hope to get pro pictures from it.  I do have a couple of pictures that we took before Leslie left for the wedding.

There are so many deals on cool stuff going on this week, I am totally (and happily) overwhelmed. Here’s everything that caught my eye.

Fendi Coat. This is just amazing. Ruffles, a big collar, a wide belt, and a 2-layer effect on the sleeves are incredible enough, but then they had to add the buttons detailed with an organic design and the Fendi logo in the center. Faints*. Currently $190 with just over a day remaining.

Burberry Prorsum Studded Flats. This is an amazing buy if you’re a size 36 (US 6) in shoes. I wish they were a size 8… very tempting. Currently $103 ending tonight. (P.S. you can also check out other studded Burberry shoes on eBay like these awesome studded rainboots or sandals)

BCBG “Ivanka” Colorblocked Slingbacks. This retailed for $240 and are now on sale at BCBG.com for $150, but you can get them on eBay for even less…. $20.50, ending tonight.

J. Crew Gray & Neon Flats. I think I want J. Crew flats in every color combination that it possible, but this has got to be one of the best. Plus it’s a real bargain at just $33.59, ending tonight.

Tory Burch Cluthch/Wallet. I just can’t stay away from neon. $75 ending tonight. A nice deal compared to the $198 retail price.

Is there such a thing as a compact mirror that’s “too posh”? I’m not sure, but I can say that this Kenneth Jay Lane compact mirror, which retailed for over $200, is fun to look at. Maybe I wouldn’t pull it out at a baseball game, but maybe I would at a fancy dinner.

Tory Burch Fringe Necklace. This brings a whole lot of style to an outfit for the easy price of $29.

Marni Cut-Out Wedges. These are really a deal at $126 with no bidders yet and 2 days remaining.

Rick Owens Jacket. This is such an amazing work of art, it’s making me lose touch with the realities of my wallet. I am trying to pretend I don’t even know this on eBay right now. $198 with 2 days left.

I’ve been making a lot of glitters lately. (Surprise!) Although I’m a glitter troll, it has to be a very specific kind of glitter. I’m not crazy about rough glitter and I generally prefer smooth to chunky. My favorite is fine glitter in a jelly base, like China Glaze Emerald Sparkle or Ruby Pumps. They have the formula dead on.  But aside from a couple colors,  there’s not a lot in this formula.  What to do…?

Stop! Frankentime!

The secret is to make a translucent base and to get the right kind of glitter. The base has to be a bit see-through, or else the glitter will clump up and you won’t be able to see it. But the base also needs to be colored, or you’ll have bare spots on the nail.  Try to make a base that is colored but allows light to pass through. You should be able to see your nail line in one coat but with a distinct color on the nail.

After you’ve gotten the base color down, choose a coordinating color of smooth, fine glitter.  Test your glitter first-many glitters will turn silver when they react with the nail polish- the chemicals strip off the glitter color.  The price of the glitter does not seem to be related to the colorfastness. I have had excellent luck with MAC Glitters but they are pricey. 

Here’s an orange glitter jelly that I made with 3 drops Essie Jelly Apple, 8 drops of OPI Lemonade Stand by Your Man, and then mixed. I added about 5 drops of clear polish.  So the mix is 30% red, 70% yellow, and then add half that much clear polish.

I then put in the glitter. Here’s what I got:

The finish was totally smooth. I used two pretty thick coats, no topcoat because I wanted to mattify it!

What a crazy weekend.  I really only have pictures from Jenni’s Friday wedding.  It was held down at the Coronado Community Center.  Her bright orange and green color combo was so fun and looked great at the location.

Can you believe it I only have one picture from the other 3 weddings that we had on Saturday.  What a crazy day.  It started at 7 am when I went to the shop to create Anais’ bouquet.  I left a little after 9 with my daughter and we went to Anais & George’s wedding to start hanging fabric.  This took us over 2 hours and we still were not quite through.  We came back to Fallbrook and picked up the flowers for Anais’ wedding and Ryan’s wedding at Falkner winery.  We first went to Anais’ wedding and finished the fabric, then went out to the ceremony site and set up the vases and the chair decor.  The vases fell once and we filled them full with water to make them heavy.  We waited until just before the ceremony to place them back on the pillars.  After most of the guest were seated we placed the vases back on the stands. While we were in finishing the reception flowers the vases fell again and the groomsmen were tyring to pick them up.  I didn’t want this to happen during the ceremony so I just stood them up against the stands on the ground I was so disappointed.  I have used this set up before and even in the wind and never had a vase fall over.  These were new vases and after comparing them to the vases I usually use they are not as heavy.  I think next time I will have to put rocks in the bottom of them.  

After the wedding had started and we finished the reception set up we drove to Falkner.  I walked in the resturant door and one of the bridesmaids had just walked out of the bride’s room to come and find me for their flowers…what great timing.  Ryan had a beautiful bouquet of all green flowers and greenery.  I hope that I am able to get some pictures.  We then drove down to the ceremony site and set it up.  Then back to the resturant to do the quick centerpieces.  We ended up leaving Falkner around 5:30.

On the way back I called Leslie to see how the wedding she was setting up was going.  She and my mom set up over at Pala Mesa.  We didn’t get pictures of that wedding either so hopefully the bride will let me know where I can get some.

I’m just thankful that last weekend is over and some how I surrvived.

A new spirituality site has launched. It’s like Beliefnet but “more academic,” says a review. But if academic is supposed to mean scholarly and comprehensive, it’s not. It fails to recognize a wider spiritual universe beyond the usual mainstream religious suspects. There is a “pagan” portal about Wiccans and such, but I had to hunt for the barest sliver of attention to humanism. Nothing either on the Brights, or on naturalism.

Our Spring spirituality (and atheism) c0urse clearly has important gaps to fill.
