早前上網看見Blur將會把今年7月2、3號在Hyde Park開的兩場音樂會各自獨立完整地出版成唱片時，本能反應是「嘩使唔使啊」。然後，兩秒後的自己極速打敗了兩秒前的自己 – 當然值得出，好話唔好聽，這兩場音樂會「可能」是Blur最後的公開演出了 (除非他們好像達明般，每5年10年reunion一次)，為什麼不好好的、完整的為它們留個紀錄？他們自96年以後便沒有推出過live recording，即是說脫離brit-pop時代後的作品甚少收錄在唱片中，今年的音樂會算是樂隊一個非常完滿的總結。而且，我幾覺得這個決定是為當日在場的觀眾而下的。沒有出席的人可以求其買隻，他們也不會介意輯錄的歌曲是何地何月何日的音樂會收錄的，好聽就是了。但對於身在現場的歌迷，尤其是跟了Blur好一般日子的歌迷來說，這張live cd，就是很珍貴的回憶了。

你看我post這張相，就知我是有份在現場吶喊的其中一粒人頭了。今年其中兩件超難忘的事，一是到了Glastonbury朝聖，終於親身見識mud & rain和與數萬人在星夜下合唱Tender；二是7月2日有份出現在倫敦Hyde Park，在Damon當日寫下Parklife的地方，跟幾萬人一同喊「all the people/ so many people/ they all go hand in hand/ hand in hand through their PARKLIFE」。音樂會中，Damon說了幾句話，大概是說他們非常感動，一隊「haven’t done anything for years」（9年冇一齊玩live，6年冇出碟）的樂隊無啦啦開show，竟然有這樣的反應。那一刻，我是有點眼濕濕的。從上網訂票的一刻起，我常常懷疑自己是否真的成功買了票、會不會到了倫敦後拿不到票、會不會「有突發事件看不到音樂會」。簡單點說，我覺得整件事 (失驚無神去Glastonbury，隔幾天又有得看Blur)很超現實，6月25日早上登上往Worthy Farm的巴士那刻，我還懷疑自己是否真的去緊Glastonbury。

然後，那個旅程的一切都發生得很快，我病倒了，MJ突然死了，又憂心著工作上的事情。最老土但貼切的說法是，好像發了一場夢。直至這幾天。找了好幾間唱片店都見不到7月2號的版本，包括早幾天到過的HK Records。今天朋友叫我再入去行吓，我都只是抱著「行吓」的心態，竟然找到。已經很久沒有試過「執到寶」的興奮，就當是送給自己的聖誕禮物。剛剛從頭到尾聽了一次，感覺很奇怪。這幾年其實很少拿Blur唱片出來聽了，但音樂會的每首歌響起前奏時，感覺又是這麼熟悉、但又有點陌生。然後想起，中學的時候我還試過把(已執笠的)Select雜誌送的Damon & Graham海報貼在課本封底。那時身邊的同學較少聽外國樂隊，會聽的也多數是喜歡Suede，我想是因為Brett較有型吧。Damon的mod look，有點薯。

這套唱片好像證實了今年暑假發生的事都是真實的，某些感覺也是真實的。二手的錄音竟然比一手的現場目擊感覺真實，多諷刺。今年是非常奇特的一年，因為小時候訂下的那個「25歲前要完成的事」，要做的都已經做了，所以有點徬徨，好像需要急著找下一個25年要做的事。就當Hyde Park的音樂會錄音是這個交叉點的註腳吧。

How are the Pet Shop Boys not more popular?  Maybe they are.  I have no idea actually.

Not to contradict the legions of intelligent and insightful music critics who have commented on the worth and wonder of Color Radio’s newest EP Be Safe, Be Aware, but the best you can do is compare these kids to Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, Doves, Travis, and Radiohead?! Let me set the record straight, if they must be compared to something or someone, let’s talk about Matt Johnson, Morrissey, and Tim Kasher smoking reefer in an alternate universe where 1984 and 2009 collapse into an eternal nightclub in Manchester. In this sense I can see why some might compare them to Doves, but not necessarily because they sound alike, but because Doves actually used to hang out at The Haçienda in Manchester in 1984. Some may say Tim Kasher, really? And I say yes, he is there, at least for a moment or two. But that would only be if I wanted to compare them to anyone at all.

Color Radio’s music is modern-it is heart felt-it is a topographic tour of dreamscape melody. Jonathan Ifergan and Tohm Ifergan, are an excellent guitar drum duo charmed by the familial fact that they are indeed brothers. The two are only increased in beauty by Matthew Thomas and Joel Chasco who in infuse the intense ambiance with their respective contributions of keys and bass. I would be excited to have this group meet and pair up for a couple of nights in New York City with another great Midwestern band Eagle Seagull. Color Radio are what their band name says they are. They pulse with color, attitude, and passion. Better yet, they are having a three date stint next week in New York,  so December calls people, let’s go…

Okay, so seriously, you don’t need me to tell you how phenomenal and amazing George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass is, but in case you need a reminder: this is a phenomenal and amazing album. With some of my favorite songs like “What Is Life” and “My Sweet Lord,” this is an outstanding album. Hell, even if you’re just a Goodfellas fan, listen to this album.

I like a woman with a throaty voice, which is why I love the likes of Etta James and Janis Joplin; so it should not be a surprise that I adore The Heartless Bastards and I listened to their album All This Time and it’s still a sexy piece of rock. I whole heartedly recommend any album by The Heartless Bastards. Go Ohio!

Sometime over this summer, I went on a contemporary Brit-Pop extravaganza and fell in love with Kate Nash, The Ting Tings, and Lily Allen. Alright, Still is a fun album. It’s not brilliant (at least not to me at the moment)  or life altering, but it’s a nice album to drive-about with the windows down and sing along with.

Okay, so in this case, it’s not the band that’s weird per se; it’s the way they’re working on their latest project. Dogs Die in Hot Cars is an awesome band from Scotland that first surfaced in 2004–a somewhat unfortunate time, as they got a bit unfairly lumped in with other similar-sounding Scottish and Brit-pop bands of the day like Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Futureheads, etc. After releasing just one EP (Man Bites Man) and one full-length album (Please Describe Yourself), the quintet decided to call it a day, abandoning work on a follow-up album in 2007 and going their separate ways. Or so we thought!

Last year, the band resurfaced, releasing demo tracks from their second album one at a time on their website along with the “stems” or individual elements, i.e. vocals, guitar, keys, etc., which they encouraged fans to use to create their own remixes or alternate versions of the songs. They’re calling the whole project “Dogs Die in Hot Cars is making Pop Nonsense.”

Bands releasing stems for fans to create their own remixes is nothing new; artists from Nine Inch Nails to Radiohead have launched similar projects. But here’s where it gets interesting: DDIHC is promising to release their favorite fan-submitted mixes in an album sometime in the near future and split the royalties 50-50 with the contributors. It’s band 2.0!

We did a lot of digging on the web and have been unable to get the full backstory on this project; it doesn’t seem like the band has discussed it at all with the press, or if they have, any stories about Dog Dies in Hot Cars, the band, tend to get buried under “Dogs die in hot cars!”, the public service announcement. Either the members of DDIHC couldn’t agree on the final mixes or arrangements for their songs, or they got bored, or they got hosed somehow when their label V2 Records, dropped its entire artist roster in early 2007, which would have been right around the time they were in the midst of recording the tracks that make up Pop Nonsense. Also, a few months ago, the band announced that it was no longer taking submissions for the project and pulled all the downloadable tracks and stems off their website. So most of the music is no longer readily available at this point, unless you’re lucky enough to know someone who downloaded all 17 songs.

There really isn’t anything from Pop Nonsense available on YouTube, and the band’s earlier material, while fabulous in its own XTC/Madness way, isn’t really all that weird. But here’s a link to a stream of the title track. (We were really hoping to find this one track called “Serious,” which has a sort of drunken, impending-pub-brawl chorus that goes something like “Serious! I’m fookin’ serious! Serious! I’m so illy serious!” But alas, we came up empty.) The band may be calling these “demos,” but they sound pretty polished to us…in a good way. Here’s hoping the full Pop Nonsense project, original tracks and remixes, finally gets a proper release, because these guys definitely deserve to be rediscovered.

Afternoon Naps es una banda afincada en Cleveland, Ohio, en los Estados Unidos, la banda se formo en el año 2006 y esta compuesto por 6 buenos amigos, su música nota influencia de bandas como the smiths, beach boys, teenage fanclub, the turtles, the wedding present, y alguna otra mas que me estaré olvidando seguramente, su música es una especie de twee pop, o el indie pop mas dulzón, inspirado mas que nada por the smiths, a pesar de todas las otras bandas nombradas. su único álbum hasta el momento se llama Parade, y salio hace unos meses, en este 2009, disfrútenlo por que  a pesar de tener muy poca fama, el álbum esta muy bueno…

Quick intro: So we’ve done 100 years of fashion at uni, and now on Monday 3oth November 2009 we have to dress up. We’ve all been given a decade- and as you may have guessed from the title- I’ve been given the 90s. (For the record I’m going grunge) Was hoping of the 70s but oh well, here goes; I hope I do it justice.

 First let’s get the ego part out my system; the best thing about the 90s was me being born in the middle of 1990. I know being a 90s child I should like it, but I don’t. I look back on photos and wonder what on earth I was thinking.

The best fashion moments from this decade are hard to pick and I only have to choose three. It was all about minimising and looking back. There where so many different trends, it really was the start of being an individual. I managed to pick three though and those are: Grunge, Brit Pop and Punk. It’s my blog therefore I can choose what to write on, you may think about hip-hop, the start of sports wear as fashion and all those other things, but I don’t. I shudder at the memory of jelly shoes and a union jack dress and I still feel track suits should be for the gym and that showing off your stomach for your holidays.

Grunge was really a less political version of punk. Charity shop buys was the way forward. Like punk it was a lifestyle not just a fashion and I think that is what draws me to all three. You’re not just making fashion choices, your making a lifestyle statement. The effortless, comfortable feel makes this one of the best things about the 90s. Mixing a floral dress with a men’s baggy checked flannel shirt, add Converse on the bottom and you where dressed. Music came along and joined with bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Who needed the hype of the Take That and dare I say it, the Spice Girls?

Brit-pop or a cheaper Mod you make the decision. Like grunge this had a music scene. Bands like Oasis, Blur and Pulp bought Brit-pop to the mainstream. If you look at photos of Mod’s then look at a photo of Brit-pop don’t you see something similar? Smart straight leg jeans, short jackets, baby t’s and a pair of Chelsea boots. Seriously if you add the scooter and a parker you’d get a Mod. Looking back and changing it to fit the current time really get’s proven here.

Skip to the late 90s and we start to see punk emerging. Admittedly not 70s punk, there was nothing political about it. It was just youths dying and spiking their hair, adorning themselves with body piercings, band t-shirts and black jeans. Both sexes would wear black make-up, bringing back the ‘goth’ look.  Compare this to today’s fashion and I think we call it emo.

Hace un tiempo les había presentado esta banda Inglesa, que esta afincada en Londres, y en esos momentos apenas tenían un par de singles, pero ya estaban en proceso de grabación de su álbum debut, el cual ya a salido a la venta el pasado 19 de octubre, y se a llamado simplemente “The Brute Chorus”, el álbum a recibido muy buenas criticas por parte de la prensa, a mi personalmente su sonido todavía no me convence, o sea, me gusta, pero se me hace que no aportan nada  y sus canciones están casi en el limite de lo aburrido, así que lo voy a seguir escuchando a ver que pasa, mientras, prueben ustedes a ver que les parece…

The Bravery es una banda Estado Unidense que a ganado bastante fama por su 2 discos que tiene hasta el momentos,y por sus continuas peleas y discusiones con sus compatriotas The Killers, que cave destacar que tienen un sonido que siempre se ha dicho que son similares, ahora “The Bravery” luego de un descanso bastante largo a decidido lanzar su tercer álbum que tendrá de nombre “Stir The Blood” y saldrá a la venta el próximo 1 de diciembre, y según el cantante de la banda, si bien las letras tienen un toque mas oscuro su música sigue siendo bastante optimista, y por eso hoy les dejo el disco para que ustedes mismos, lo juzguen, a mi personalmente me parece que tienen un toque mas electrónico, y les queda muy bien, no son una maravilla pero, para pasar el tiempo, están muy bien…

Jeez.  I hope no one from Metronomy ever has a thing for me.

Y siguiendo con los segundos discos de bandas Irlandesas (que realmente me tienen fascinado con la calidad de ellas), hoy me encontré con este disco “Tony Was An Ex-Con” justo después de encontrar el segundo de Delorentos, y justamente, este disco que encontré es el segundo disco de The Coronas, amigos de bandas como delorentos, director, the flaws, y varias mas provenientes de Irlanda y en especial de Dublim, y ya hablando un poco mas de lo musical, este álbum ya salio a la venta el 25 de septiembre pasado (e increíblemente no me había dado cuenta a pesar de revisar su myspace bastante seguido) y continua en la misma linea de su álbum debut “Heroes Or Ghosts” con el cual ganaron mucha fama con temas como “San Diego Song”, ahora lanzaron este que me parece que incluso supera la calidad de su debut, sigue ganándose la alabación de la critica, y recibiendo varias nominaciones a distintos premios, así que espero que lo disfruten tanto como yo…

Este disco supuesta mente salio a la venta hace ya mas de un mes, ya que salio el 9 de octubre, pero recién ahora, después de tanta busqueda lo e encontrado, les podría decir que es en exclusiva del blog, pero eso no es lo que me importa, lo que me importa es que puedan disfrutar de este disco, que la verdad, esta muy bueno, manteniendo la linea de su debut, y arrasando con las criticas en Irlanda y en toda Europa, disfruten de “You Can Make Sound” el segundo álbum de delorentos, de lo mejor del año…

Hoy les voy a hablar de Two Doors Cinema Club, banda que es proveniente de Irlanda del norte y ya se la había presentado aquí en mi humilde blog, el motivo por el que hoy hablo nuevamente de ellos es por que les veo mucho futuro, ya que seguramente son el nuevo hit en los blogs, ya que en casi todo aquel que se refiera a música (música de verdad) ya han hablado de ellos, y el otro motivo es que acaban de sacar un Ep mas, y el proximo mes de febrero se espera su álbum debut, y un poco hablando de música, se puede decir que se parece un tanto a Los Campesinos, y algo a foals, ya que tienen las melodias dulzonas de Los Campesinos, y los toques electrónicos de Foals, y por ultimo el frenetismo y la locura de las dos bandas, así que espero que a ustedes amigos, también le guste esta música, y les dejo el Ep llamado “I Can Talk” que justamente contiene el hitazo llamado así, disfrútenlo…

TWO DOORS CINEMA CLUB - I CAN TALK(2009)

This is an egg cooking method I learned from my bff (who is currently doing a semester abroad in Ghana!). It’s really simple and it’s like a cross between poached eggs and over-easy eggs. It’s really simple:

Put a little bit of water in the bottom of a non-stick skillet. Add a little bit of butter for the sake of preventing sticking. Turn the heat up high so the water reaches a simmer. Crack an egg into the pan and immediately cover it with a lid to keep the steam in. It will only take 2-3 minutes for the egg to steam. You want to cook it just long enough that the white part turns opaque but that the yolk stays runny. As soon as it’s done cooking take it out of the water with a slotted spatula (so you don’t take the water out with the egg).

You can eat these eggs with toast or hash browns. Personally, I think they go well on top of leftover rosemary roasted potatoes and onions. Maybe with a little bit of catsup. Mmm.

Yay Brit Pop! Lily Allen is really fantastic. After being rejected my multiple record companies, she grew to popularity via myspace. Her cynical lyrics in conjunction with the happy tunes of her music are an unexpected and wonderful surprise. I can never decide if I think she’s cute or hardcore. You tell me. Also check out the video for The Fear.

Glass Pear es el nombre bajo el cual se esconde el cantante-compositor, llamado Yestyn Griffiths, el cual es proveniente de Cardiff, en Gales, aunque reside en Los Angeles, Estados Unidos, al cual tambien lo suele acompañar los siguientes musicos, Alex en las teclas, Tom en la guitarra y Tasha en la batería. Y también hay casi siempre un piano, aunque no se quien lo toca, este chico recaudo cierta fama por ser hermano de la cantante “Jem”, por que sus canciones fueron ocupadas en varias series, y también por que su productor y aveces guitarrista(ya mencionado) es Tom, pero no cualquier Tom sino Tom Welham, guitarrista, 2da voz y aveces compositor de la famosa banda thirteen senses, y de ellos este chico en su musica tiene bastante parecido, ya que a su trabajo se lo podria definir como brit pop, acoustic pop, o algo asi, hay casi siempre o siempre guitarras acústicas, piano, y aveces bajos y batería, la verdad a mi me encanta la música de “Glass Pear” ya que a pesar de tener claras influencias y comparaciones como son coldplay, travis, keane, radiohead, thirteen senses y otras, Yestyn intenta encontrar su propio estilo, y asi es como logra canciones con letras y música realmente memorables como “Last day of your life”. A principios de este año, lanzo su álbum debut al que le puso de nombre “Street Of Love” y es completamente imposible encontrarlo por la red, pero después de un gran esfuerzo lo e conseguido, y vale la pena el disco, muy bueno, disfrútenlo, ah y quiero aclarar que el tracklist que arme contiene todas las canciones de Glass Pear, pero no conozco el tracklist del disco así que posiblemente este desordenado…

The Dodoz es una banda Francesa con sede en Toulouse, y la han formado en el año 2006, esta integrada por Geraldine Baux (voz, bajo), Jules Cassignol (guitarra), Vincent Argiolas (guitarra) y Adrien Cassignol (batería). Su música es bastante entretenida, y toma elementos del indie mas clásico de la ultima década , así como también bastante post punk, y algo de garage y punk, que por lo menos a mi me termina sonando a “The Strokes con cantante femenina y un poco mas oscuros”, hasta el día de hoy tan solo tienen un album Lp, llamado simplemente “the dodoz”, el álbum acaba de salir a principios de este mes de noviembre y esta muy bueno, por lo menos en las primeras escuchadas, después ya depende de ustedes si se aburren o no…

The kabeedies es una banda Inglesa presentada hace algunos meses en mi blog, y desde que se formaron empezaron a llamara la atencion por sus muy buenos conciertos, por su cantante femenina, y por su entretenido pop, que tiene toques punks teen(por decirlo de alguna manera) y mucho pero mucho power pop, ahora luego de bastante tiempo de esperar, lanzan su álbum debut, que tendrá por nombre ” Rumpus” y sale a la venta este mes, no es ninguna maravilla, pero por lo menos son divertidos y te hacen mover los pies, espero que lo disfruten…

Luego de casi 4 años sin noticia alguna, la mítica banda Danesa, “Kashmir” a dicho que su proximo album sera lanzado en febrero del año que viene, mas precisamente el 1 de febrero. Aunque todavia nisiquiera se conoce el nombre o el tracklist, lo unico que se conoce es el primer sencillo de ese futuro álbum, el sencillo solo esta disponible para comprar en Dinamarca, y se llama Mouthful of Wasps, la verdad una muy buena canción, con algunos toques mas electrónicos de lo que nos tenían acostumbrados…
