benefit’s powders are tiny dress-up trunks for your cheeks. over the years, they’ve created one for everyone from pale ballerina pink to sun-kissed bronze and they call their latest creation, sugarbomb, a “sweet rush of gorgeous.” the combination of rose, shimmering pink, soft plum, and peach gives a pretty, customizable flush that’s impossible to achieve with a monotone blush. while the colors may be a bit intense for some, benefit’s finely milled formula means you can start out with a subtle swipe or two and really build to whatever suits your skintone. as with all multi-shade products, you can concentrate the brush in one area that flatters your face or catch an all-over sweep for a unique glow. gotta have it? these four pretty shades for the price of one can be found at the candy shop of beauty treats that is your local benefit counter for $28.

Either E.L.F. (eyes lips face) will soon love me or hate me. I recently put in a huge order (36 items, mainly studio) during their cyber monday sale. I wanted to try one of everything, and if it’s great, it’s going into the kit – and I will purchase more. Now, I’d like to think I have realistic expectations for products that cost $1-$3. But I’m sincerely hoping that a good, quality and ridiculously cheap makeup product broke into the over the counter market. I really do. I think this company has a lot of potential, and they’ve done a good job so far. As far as aesthetics go, I think their website is functional, efficient, eye pleasing, user friendly, and honest. Nothing bothers me more then photographs of flawless, over processed and photoshopped women with long luscious lashes due to ABC mascara. It’s fake. I’ve pointed out the strip of fake lashes glued on in so many mascara ad campaigns and model’s skin looking like plastic. But I like ELF’s approach. They assembled a really clean, and honest website with stellar product photography. They don’t try to pretend an HD loose powder will make an already flawless model look flawless. It’s a quiet confidence. I even like that customers can write an honest and uncensored review about the product.

I know I’m hyping them up, but they can still disappoint me. I still haven’t tried most of their products or any really. But what I am trying to say is I like them so far. I like their marketing direction, their approach to the everyday woman, and their affordability.

Beijos,

Foundation: These days I very rarely use a traditional foundation unless the subject has particularl

Foundation: These days I very rarely use a traditional foundation unless the subject has particularly bad skin. I prefer instead to use a very light, sheer base or tinted moisturiser. Many of the tinted moisturisers now on the market contain high levels of pigment, so you still get a good even tone on the skin, without the heavy coverage. Then if any areas need slightly heavier coverage, e.g. blemishes, I use a good concealer and match it to the skin tone. I like to be able to see the skin’s natural texture, especially when shooting close-up beauty, and tinted moisturisers are perfect for this. Many also have the benefit of added SPF. My favourite tinted moisturisers are Bobbi Brown’s, which has a fantastic range of shades for all skin tones, Laura Mercier’s, and I also love Giorgio Armani’s Hydra Glow Foundation, and Face Fabric. Stila also does a brilliant tinted moisturiser, but sadly you can only buy this in the U.S now. I felt slightly bereft when Stila closed in the U.K.

Concealers / Correctors: I have tried just about every concealer on the market in search of the perfect ratio of consistency to coverage, and I found that most, including the brands that other make up artists rave about, somehow came up short. Call me fussy, but concealer, to me, is probably the most important item in my kit and I want it to blend perfectly and smoothly, whilst covering the most stubborn of dark circles. In my humble opinion, the best concealer on the market is by a little-known professional brand called Supercover. You can buy individual pans, but I prefer the Colour Wheel which contains 5 shades that can be blended to achieve the exact skin tone. These are substantial enough to cover tattoos and birthmarks, but creamy enough to blend easily without dragging or looking heavy.

If there are areas of the skin tone that need correcting or balancing, I use Bobbi Brown’s correctors underneath the concealer. The peach tone is excellent for correcting bluish under-eye circles. Occasionally I also use a light reflecting pen underneath the eyes and in the lines either side of the nose, and my faves are Guerlain’s Precious Light and Chanels’s Éclat Lumiere, I think these have better shades than most on the market. Note: go easy with light reflecting pens, over zealous use leaves a panda-like white cast under the eyes that’s not very attractive.

Powder: I have quite a wide range of powders in my kit for various purposes. Chanel’s Poudre Universelle in Peche is probably my favourite for setting foundation lightly and translucently. It is super sheer, with the tiniest hint of shimmer, and the warm, peachy tone suits most skin types. I also love T. Le Clerc’s powders because they come in a wide range of shades including yellow and lavender to correct certain skin tones. These are pricey, but worth it. If I can’t get hold of T. Le Clerc, I use Ben Nye’s in Banana. For T.V work, I tend to use a much heavier powder, usually MAC’s Studio Fix which can double up as a foundation. This provides a very matte, even base and controls shine well. Im often asked what I think about mineral powders and foundations, and for the most part, I don’t carry them in my kit because they often contain high levels of Titanium Dioxide which is very reflective under studio lights, and can leave a white cast on the skin. However, I do think these are great products. Anything that allows the skin to breathe while you are wearing it is a plus point in my eyes.

Bronzing Powder: What did we do before bronzing powders came along? This humble little compact can transform a face from pasty to sunkissed in seconds. It can shape and shade a face, giving you cheekbones where there were none, and is probably top of the list of desert island must-haves for most women. I reckon I have tested every single one on the market in the search of the perfect bronzer. Most are too orange, too shimmery, or both, and many are simply the wrong texture rendering them hard to blend. Here is a list of my favourites:

Guerlain. They have a huge range of bronzers for different skin tones. They even created a shade called ‘Make Up Artist’ which was jolly considerate of them.

Bobbi Brown. I particularly like their matte bronzers.

St Tropez. Good for darker skin tones. Go easy with the brush and build colour gradually.

Chanel. These have a very subtle shimmer, and they have a great shade for very pale skin tones, in fact it’s the best I have found.

MAC. I really like their Mineralize Skinfinish powders to create an uber sheeny, bronzed look. These have a high frost, metallic finish. Great for cheekbones, shoulders, decollete, in fact, anywhere that requires gleam.

Hydrator: After applying powder, I tend to spritz the face with Supercover’s Hydrator Spray or Avene’s Thermal Spring Water Spray. This not only refreshes the skin, leaving it dewy, it also helps to ’set’ the make up for a longer lasting finish. Particularly useful if you were a little too enthusiastic with your powder brush.

12. M.A.C Dazzleglass na cor She-Zam

A must have product for all, I use this as a face bronzer, blush, eye shadow and lip colour. Such a versatile product that provides a fabulous glow to the face. Great for a girl on the go, you can easily create a ‘work to bar’ look with this. Apply over the face as a bronzer and choose your desired colour for your eyes. The shimmer brick has so many different colour strips, I also like to apply the pinky colours to my lips and then top them up with a nice glossy gloss!

Easy and simple, great product to carry in your bag to create different looks.

XOXO,

Not wishing to gross you out further with the details of my cold, I’ll fill this space with a bit of makeup archiving. A giant posts of pictures of makeup I’ve done over the last year, that hasn’t made it’s way onto this blog yet, woohoo, and enjoy.

Yes fake tan! Now, I know what I said at the beginning, that (I quote) “I have always been fascinated with beauty, but it has to be NATURAL.”, so, ok it may not be a natural, but I strongly feel there are huge benefits to fake tan which I have listed below:
You won’t get skin damage
It makes you look younger & healthier
It’s sliming
You can where less make-up

It is true that if you have any problem areas to your skin a tan will hide them. BUT! if you have any outer skin ailments don’t just hide them away, get to the underlining problem to find out what is causing your particular concerns. (please read ‘You are what you eat’ post).

Be wise when choosing the right fake tan! some can have too much iodine in them and this can cause you to turn orange.

Disaster Story
The funniest fake tan story I have ever heard, was in actual fact my Nan! When tan first arrived in London (around the 1950’s), my Nan was on it. I those days if you had a tan it showed wealth, which meant you could afford to go abroad for a holiday. Anyway she put it on just before bed (this is a big NO NO people, it will stain your bed sheets, or just put old bed sheets on) anyway she woke up next morning and with orange bed sheets, think that was the worst of what happened, until she went to the mirror and to her horror she was completely orange from head to toe. My Nan had two weeks off work before it wore off. ALERT! THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN TO YOU! tanning products these days have come a long way and most come with a tan corrector or remover if you go wrong! alternatively you can read ‘Opps! How do I fix that?’ post, for a more natural remedy.

Step by Step to applying fake tan
1.Exfoliate: Buy a good exfoliator or body brush and concentrate on joints and
dry areas. I usually do this while in the shower or the bath.

2. Moisturize: Buy a light body lotion and like before concentrate on joints and dry areas.

3. Tan Time: Now…before I apply my tan I always put some latex gloves on this will stop you from getting orange hands, (don’t bother buying the tan mits they are no better, they are just more expensive). Apply in a downward motion and only keep brushing one way. Wait until dry before putting on your clothes, too!

Some of my top tanners
St Tropez Bronzing moose
Lorea’l
Zen Tan
Some are expensive, but if you only want to use it for your face these are a good investment and you will get more of a natural, streak free tan. I only use St. Tropez on my face, which lasts me ages!

If you do use it on your face, just dust a little bronzer across the face a little mascara and blusher and your good to go!

I want to know your on tanning…take the poll or leave a comment!

I’ll never have that luxury, but I can come close with the new BeneFit Celebutante kit ($34). It stocks everything a woman needs for a full face of glamour.

Some of BeneFit’s most classic products are housed within this kit, including High Beam, the brand’s amazing highlighter, and BeneTint, the classic rose lip and cheek stain. Also included is Dallas bronzing powder, lipstick in Lady’s Choice and No Competition, Velvet Eyeshadow in Dandy Brandy and Leggy, and lipgloss in I’m With the Band, a shimmering pink. As if that weren’t enough, BeneFit also included a double-ended eyeshadow brush, a bronzer brush, and a booklet of tutorials and looks for applying all your new makeup.

It’s like your own personal makeup artist in a box. What more could a girl want?

Dica devidamente copiada do Lady Rasta

__________ xxx____________

I never cease to get excited when my new product orders arrive. I’ve always loved trying new things, and nothing brings the girlie girl out in me more than testing out a product that will potentially end up in my own range of cosmetics. I finally got the chance to test a few today, and I am blown away by how amazing they are! I can’t wait to get the samples out to you all.

WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE FREE SAMPLES - PLEASE SIGN UP TO OUR NEWSLETTER AND RECEIVE AN UPDATE INFORMING YOU OF FUTURE OFFERS, BEAUTY ARTICLES AND PRODUCT LAUNCHES. WE WILL OFFER A CONVENIENT SAMPLE SYSTEM AT A LOW PRICE VERY SOON!

Sign up here now!

A sneak peak at some of the products making their way into the Karma range

This Mineral Bronzer is by far, one of the best I’ve tried and is simple to use. It contains all natural ingredients, and is safe for face and body. It is a very pretty coppery bronze lotion which actually looks natural on the skin. Extremely low shimmer, no oiliness and little shine. And, most importantly – NO TANDOORI colouring! I think you are going to love this one. I look forward to hearing from the bronzer obsessed for honest feedback on this bronzer

With summer well on the way here in Australia, the need for a daily sunscreen is a must for everyone with skin! It’s only natural that the Karma range include a product to protect the most sensitive skins from our harsh, radiant sun. This zinc sunscreen is void of the harmful chemicals present in many leading brands, is SPF 15+ and makes a great primer underneath your foundation. Goes on a little white, but easily covered with make-up or bronzing lotion. No greasy residue. I definitely like this one.

Mineral eye shadow – OMG, the new colours are just amazing! I have already been using these shadows on myself and my make over clients, for months, but have not yet introduced them to the range, for sale. They are truly amazing, both in shade range, and wear. I usually suffer from oily lids, making my eye shadow disappear in no time, but not with these shadows. A variety of these will be thrown into your sample packs. And then, very, very soon, they will be launched into the Karma line - stay tuned!

When most people think of bronzers, they tend to envision a model with tan skin, looking as if she just stepped off a plane from the Caribbean Islands. The common idea among women of color is that bronzers are only for pale white women who want their skin to look a shade darker.

THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!!

I am an avid user of bronzer. It makes my entire face seem to glow. I don’t wear blush at all, so a bronzer is my best friend when it comes to color on my cheeks.

There are many different types of bronzers. From doing much research and testing, I’ve found out that cream-based bronzers usually work well for normal to dry skin, but if your skin is oily, try a liquid-based bronzer. The oil in your skin can break down the cream in the bronzer. Powder bronzer tends to be too glittery for most people. For a natural, everyday glow, mix your bronzer into liquid foundation. Doing so makes it looks as if your skin is naturally bronze, and not like you have a layer of it on top of your skin. This is something you’ll need to experiment with to get the right mix. You have to find the perfect neutral foundation for your skin; the added bronzer will enhance the color.

Basically, the key to finding the right bronzer is looking for one with lots of pigment. It takes time to find out what bronzer is just right for your skin tone. Finding the perfect match will result in a beautiful, glowing look, suitable for all season.

Black Voices features a list of some of the best bronzers for all skin tones.

If you’re an organic, all-natural makeup junkie like me, or just want something that won’t irritate your skin, then look no further. Korres‘ beauty products are all natural and they are among the most environmentally friendly and skin compatible products available on the beauty market these days. It’s nice to know that some companies actually care about what you put on your face! They have all natural extracts with antioxidants that are proven to transform your skin. Don’t believe me? Try it yourself. All their stuff is available at Sephora.

If you’re not sure what to try out, here are a few of my favorites:

Not only does it lightly hydrate your skin so it doesn’t appear all flaky and dry, it provides a light shimmer to give you that sunkissed glow.

It makes taking off makeup so easy and fun. Not to mention they offer antioxidant protection and smell delicious!

Wild Rose Foundation: This foundation is light, provides a dewy look yet gives the coverage that you need.
Lindsay Lohan's face in 1998. This week Americans read these apparently important headlines: Boy

Lindsay Lohan's face in 1998.

This week Americans read these apparently important headlines: Boy Trapped in Flying Saucer, Kanye West is Not Dead and WTF is Up With Lindsay Lohan’s Face? I learned from pop culture this week that subjects such as a celebrity’s face deserve as much coverage as the President’s press conference on health care.

Many “news” Web sites (or tabloid sites and blogs, I should say) wrote articles and produced photo slide shows that compared an older photo to a newer photo of Lindsay Lohan’s face. They questioned her new appearance, simply asking readers, “What happened?” No actual news accompanied this story –she just looked a bit different, so these sites reported that.

I became rather curious as to what really happened, so I thoroughly studied www.USMagazine.com’s 12-photo slide show that featured Lohan’s face through the years. Here is what I found:

The solution is rather simple. She’s older, she wears a lot of make-up -everything from bronzer to a generous amount of eyeliner and eye shadow- and her weight fluctuates. Of course Lohan’s face looks different than it looked when she played the lead in The Parent Trap in 1998.Make-up also changes the way anyone looks, especially when you wear a lot in one photograph and less in another. And here’s news for the web sites covering this “subject”: weight gain and loss affects the face. When Lohan appeared heavier her cheeks were fuller and now in her rail-thin phase, her cheeks are more sullen.

Lindsay Lohan's face in 2009. Notice the difference?

If I took anything away from my mini investigation it would have to be that people look different in photos taken at different times. But doesn’t everybody already know that?

Product that quite often catches my eye: Shimmers. From my angle while doing eyelash extensions I ha

Product that quite often catches my eye: Shimmers. From my angle while doing eyelash extensions I have noticed various types of body shimmers applied to the decollete, highlighters dusted along cheekbones, upon the brow bones, and sparkly lip glosses trying to compete with the stars in the sky.

Some body shimmers include pigment, either as a self tanner or as a straight up bronzer. My advice on any bronzer–watch out for the orange tones. I can not calculate how many women we have seen walking through the door at The Lash Spa resembling the OJ they drank that morning. It takes a particular skin tone to carry off orange, it most definitely does not complement all.

Lorac’s TANtalizer Baked Bronzer is one that carries a nice shade. Bobby Brown’s Body Brick is another fave of mine. La Bella Donna’s for face comes in a cream or powder, gorgeous. These products have a micronized shimmer. Some of the less expensive shimmers are not only pumpkin toned, they have larger shimmer particles. We do not want to look like we have spilled a container of glitter. We want the light to reflect off of us, creating the luminosity we carried as a child. Although the Bobby Brown Body Brick was not suggested for the face, I use on my face, as well as my decollete. It has 3 tones in one grande compact. It runs about $75.00, but I am guessing I am going to have it in my drawer for a while, due to its size. Check out Lorac’s whole line of TANtalizer products at www.Sephora.com. Verrrry easy on the eyes.

Bottom line: Look for shimmers, sparkles, and bronzers with micronized particles and avoid orange tones. All of the products we buy, try and apply have one common purpose–to bring out our beauty, not detract. Let’s make 2009’s Holiday Season shine and bring on 2010 with lots of sparkle and promise.

Peace from the Lash Lady.

I think it is the cutest thing i have ever seen! also on the side of the brush it is printed with an arrow indicating what kind of brush it is….from concealer brush to eye shadow brush. I’ve tried them already. i think i love the eyeshadow brush and the blending brush.
