The cartridge that this drum holds will refuse to let you print after a certain time, alleging that the toner life is ended.

This will fly in the face of the evidence of crisp pages, with evidently a decent amount of toner left. This is not like the old days, where the pages continue to print, and the print quality degrades as toner dissipates. Nope, this is a “We’ll decide for you when you go get another cartridge” move by the manufacturer.

Countermeasures against this ploy:

1. Shake cartridge, replace
2. After a while, #1 won’t work. Then, open cover, Options, *00, close cover
2. After a while, #2 won’t work. Then, get a black Sharpie and cover the laser window on the non-gear side of the cartridge.

Should get you closer to getting your money’s worth.

I’ve had the Brother MFC 4350 for 7 years and loved it.I finally decided to upgrade to a new Brother MFC 7225N.The printer installed very easily.The printer quality is very good and overall, I think I’m happy with the purchase.Two pet peeves:
1) The machine is much louder than the MFC 4350 when its printing.If you have home office, you probably can’t print a large document and talk on the phone at the same time because of the noise.
2) The top and the bottom of the printed pages curl up.For home use, this will probably be ok.If you are printing proposals or official business-related stuff, this may annoy you. (not as professional looking)

These TN-04 cartridges seem a bit pricey, but the rated yield makes them more cost effective than they might seem.(TN-04BK is rated for 10,0000 pages 5% coverage, versus say most HP models of similar size/duty at 2500-7500.Obviously, your choice of toner model was made when you selected your printer or MFC.)

I got this a few weeks ago and I’ve been enjoying beautiful label printing since. While Brother has many label printers, this model is all you really need. It was actually recommended by a Brother reptile at Macworld.

Set-up was easy and I’m using it with both Mac Leopard and Windows Vista and I’ve experienced no problems printing whatsoever. The Windows software has more features than the Mac side and feels “slicker” too.

The QL-570 prints fast and silent. It’s a little bigger than you would expect, but that’s due to the easy-to-change label cartridges, which are a big plus.

Yes, these Brother toners do only count the number of pages printed to determine the amount of toner left. When one of the CMY color runs out, they all run out at the same time. Even though the printer may say its completely out of toner, that might not be the case always. To reset the toner (if you know there’s ample amount of toner still left), unscrew the two screws on the side, pop off the side cover, and turn the gray gear wheal counterclockwise 90 degrees.

This cartridge will disable your printer once it (the cartridge) tells your printer it’s empty. The cartridge has a window that is closed (blocked) by toner. This window runs through the cartridge from one side to the other. When the toner is full, the window is blocked, when the toner is seemingly empty, a laser is able to shine through the cartridge one side to the other thus signaling to the printer to shut down for cartridge replacement. I have found that when you obstruct this window with a simple piece of masking tape, you will have at least 33-50% more toner left. I’ll leave any manufacturer motive speculation up to you.

I have the black and all four colors….only the yellow and red have leaked out on the paper….makes for poor quality printing. These toners are easy to install.One thing though, after the first warning of these toners being low I take them out and check the little round window to see if there is still toner.If there is, I wind back the gear with a peg on it back to its original position.I recently did this with all three colors as it was reported they were going low.After winding back the gears, the printer performed perfectly for another month with a moderate amount of color printing.Finally, the low toner warnings went off again and since there appeared no more toner, I installednew ones.I have a closet full of these consumables and look forward to many great years printing with these printers. Is it true that using a Brother MFC-5440CN printer to ONLY print black text emails and word processing documents will also consume the three color ink tanks?
It seems to be true because that is the case with a friend’s printer: she never printed color and all three color tanks have run dry and, unless the 3 color tanks were replaced, the printer refused to continue printing in simple black.

Unfortunatly the Brother MFC 3240c (and other models also I believe) will not function if any of the inks run out.Also unfortunatly when the 3240c cleans its heads it does so by running ink through the print head, yes it uses ink even if you never print.Again unfortunatly it automatically cleans the print head occasionally.So even if you print you can still run out of ink and the machine shuts down.Fortunatly there is a solution.There is some kind of optical sensor in the 3240c that “sees” how much ink in in the cartridge.You can disable the ability of the sensor to see how much ink is in the cartridge by putting some dark colored tape over the clear part of the LC41 cartridge.The cartridge has one side that you can kind of see through and see the amount of ink inside.That is the side that you need to put the tape over.It is not flat so you will have to mold the tape the shape of the cartridge or it will not fit back into the printer.Once this is done the 3240c thinks you have a full ink cartridge and it will work just fine.This also enables you to use all of the ink in the cartridge.The machine will tell you you are out of ink before it is completly empty.Happy printing!
