Power Thursday (26/Nov/09)

Power Thursday

The chaotic mess in Cleveland continues. The Detroit Lions beat the Browns 38-37 in Detroit on Sunday proving that the Browns are a horrible football team. Just when you thought the Browns were going to win, they blew it. Sure the Browns were leading 24-3 in the first quarter, but it didn’t matter. Sure Brady Quinn threw four touchdown passes, but it didn’t matter. No matter what the Browns did against the Lions, it didn’t work. It was a game that the Browns should have won, but they found a way to lose. Quinn moved the ball well and gave the Browns a 21 point lead in the first quarter, but sure enough the defense would blow that lead. After the Browns had the lead they were outscored 27-3, which in my opinion pretty much tells the story of why the Browns lost. Also the Browns allowed the Lions to go 88 yards in 1:46 to score a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Plus in that 1:46 the Lions had NO timeouts! That is horrible defense if you ask me. The Browns had a chance to eat up more clock in the fourth quarter, but they decided not to. The Browns had the ball 3rd and 5 with about two minutes to play. So the Browns decide to throw an incomplete pass rather than run the ball. Now why wouldn’t you run the ball and use up the clock? I don’t understand that poor decision, but it doesn’t really matter now. One other play that drove me nuts was the play where the Browns ran a fake field goal on fourth down only to get the first down and kick the field goal after all. Mangini was lucky that the fake worked and they got the first down because they could have blown another three points. Once again it was another stupid play call. It was nice to at least see the Browns put up a fight against the Lions, but can this offense continue playing well against a good NFL team? The Browns had nothing to gain from winning this game in my opinion. Does it really matter if the Browns are 1-9 or 2-8?
This week the Browns will battle the Bengals in Cincinnati. Earlier in the season the Browns lost to the Bengals in overtime, but the Browns have gotten much worse since that game. Personally it is tough to say how the Browns will play against the Bengals. Keep in mind the Oakland Raiders beat the Bengals last week, which shows you anything can happen.

Q: Can the Browns win any more games?
A: Sure the Browns can win more games but I don’t see it happening.
Q: Will the Browns go 1-15?
A: I have no idea but I think there is a chance it could happen.
Q: What do you think of Brady Quinn?
A: I like him. He seems like a good quarterback when he has time in the pocket and receivers that can catch the ball.
Q: Are the Browns the worst team in the NFL?
A: The Rams are also 1-9, but the Browns are near the very bottom.
Q: Is Eric Mangini a good coach?
A: NO, he is horrible.
Q: Why is he horrible?
A: The statistics show that the Browns have gotten worse this season rather than better. The main reason is the lack of talent, but Mangini is horrible at play calling.
Q: Will Mangini be with the Browns for the rest of this season?
A: Most likely, but he is in hot water.
Q: Will Mangini be around next year?

Week 11

1. Colts – they remain unbeaten and have had a tougher schedule than the Saints.
2. Saints – Big game this week in fact make it a huge game this week and I have to say I think they will go down to their first lose of the season.
3. Vikings – This team is not getting alot of attention which is surprising with Favre in it but they continue to win and win well.
4. Patriots – Pretty much sealed up the division this weekend and can now look forward to ruining the Saints perfect start to the season.
5. Bengals - They are praying the lose to the Raiders doesn’t hurt them too much.
6. Chargers - Looked good beating up the Broncos and should win the division now.
7. Cardinals – This team still seems to surprise people even after last season.
8. Cowboys – Warning signs are up since they struggled to beat the Redskins.
9. Packers - How could would this team be if they could protect Aaron Rodgers?
10. Giants - Got the win they needed after the bye week even though they tried their hardest to lose it.
11. Eagles – The Bears game was closer than it needed to be.
12. Steelers - Must stop losing so silly teams like the Chiefs.
13. Broncos – Simms was so bad he made Orton look like Elway.
14. Jaguars - Nearly losing to Buffalo shows how bad this team can be at times.
15. Falcons – Not surprised by the news they are seeking a new kicker.
16. Ravens - They need to win a game against a good team to be taken seriously.
17. Dolphins – Still winning even with all those injuries.
18. Texans - Things looked so good a few weeks ago but know they look like the .500 Texans we all love.
19. Titans – Being winless seems like a long long time ago now.
20. Panthers – Run the ball in the red zone please.
21. Bears - They are only this high because there are so any bad teams right now.
22. Jets - Looks like a team coached by a rookie head coach and with a rookie starting QB. Nice to see the disrespected us quote coming out this week.
23. 49ers - Smith looks ok at last.
24. Chiefs - Big win last week.
25. Raiders - Finally they have a QB who can throw the ball.
26. Bills - When do they move to Canada now?
27. Seahawks – Time to start worrying about next season.
28. Redskins – See above.
29. Lions - How do you lose so many yards and points to the Browns?
30. Rams - I still feel sorry for Steven Jackson.
31. Buccaneers - Man this team is bad.
32. Browns - and this team is even worse.

Some Festive Games and Some Turkeys

We’ve arrived at Thanksgiving week, and the NFL season has become one of haves, have-nots, and mediocre teams. The haves (New Orleans, Indianapolis, Minnesota, Cincinnati, San Diego, Arizona, and New England) figure to be the eight teams playing in the second round of the NFL playoffs.

The have-nots (Cleveland, Detroit, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, Washington, Kansas City, Oakland, Seattle, and Buffalo) have nothing to play for at this point. To wager on these teams, one must find a reason to believe these teams’ players will have a reason to give everything they’ve got.

The 15 mediocre teams remaining are the ones competing for the final four playoff berths. These are the teams that must be watched carefully as the stretch drive begins. Be careful playing against one of these teams when they are playing a have or have-not. They can be dangerous.

This week presents some interesting contests. On Thanksgiving night, the Denver-New York Giants game features two of the aforementioned mediocre teams. A match-up of two mediocre teams in essence becomes a playoff elimination game. The loser of this game has very little chance of recovering to make the playoffs this year.

Indianapolis plays at Houston, and the Texans find their backs up against the wall. After losing a close Monday night game, Houston is in a must-win position.

Arizona plays at Tennessee, and if the Titans win this one to get to 5-6, they would have to be considered a dark horse candidate to finish 9-7 and sneak in as the final AFC Playoff team. No NFL team has ever started a season at 0-6 and finished 8-8 must less 9-7. The 1970 Cincinnati Bengals began the season 1-6 and won seven games in a row to win the AFC Central Division at 8-6.

Baltimore and Pittsburgh face off in a blood and guts battle that could easily be a playoff elimination game.

The Monday night game is the best MNF game of the year. New England plays at New Orleans. It could easily be a preview of the Super Bowl.

Holy Sh*t! That pretty much sums up my feelings to week 11 of the NFL so far. The AFC North collaps

Holy Sh*t!

That pretty much sums up my feelings to week 11 of the NFL so far. The AFC North collapse in unbelievable fashion with the Steelers losing to the mighty Chiefs, the Bengals losing to the mighty Raiders, the Browns losing to the mighty Lions and the Ravens losing to the highly impressive Colts. And that is only one division!

Things got crazy in other places with the Redskins holding the Cowboys to 7 points with half a team, the Bills beating an improving Jacksonville and the Giants trying their hardest to throw a game away. Yes it really has been a special weekend.

Lets start with the AFC North, out of the 4 teams that lost only Baltimore can have any pride in itself since they at least lost to an unbeaten team. If you ever wondered about the importance of Peyton Manning then watch this game. Yes he throw a couple of INTs but when he was in the red zone the Colts came away with TDs and not field goals something Baltimore failed to do. The Bengals managed to give up 10 points in 33 seconds which defies logic. Pittsburgh managed to allow the Chiefs to score 27 points and Cleveland scored hundreds but still lost with no time remaining. This game proved yet again how important Troy Polamalu is to the Steelers, he actually defines what an MVP player means to a team. He plays they win, he doesn’t play they lose to some awful teams.

After watching the Colts beat the Ravens I settled down to watch the Chargers destroy the Broncos. Three points struck me from this game, 1) Simms is only on rosters because of who his father was 2) McDaniels likes to try his luck, which is something I don’t have a problem with and 3) Orton truly is the leader of the offense, as soon as he stepped onto the field the whole attitude of the team changed and he was unlucky not to get some points on the board before the rookie fumbled on the goal line. Denver needs Orton fit for Thursday or they are going to get thrashed again.

Yes I really did enjoy the NFL this weekend and I think we could be in for an even better game tonight between the Titans and the Texans.

I know many of you out there are football fans (both American and European styles). Well being from the Midwest I have always been surrounded by the madness at this time of year that is football. Yes I root for Ohio St. although I did not go there. Living in such close proximity to the university with family and friends who either attended or worked there. I grew up in a family of women and today have a family of women, but the men (heads of household) are die hard Ohio St. and Cleveland Browns fans. And die hard is putting it mild.

It is one thing to be a fanatic when your team does well which is and should forever be the case at Ohio St. , but for the plight of the Cleveland Browns fan, I think it has to be worse than being a Chicago Cubs baseball fan.

To be honest, I’m glad that I did not become a super fan and went to strictly academic schools that were not Division 1 sports crazy schools. I have enough vested in concern in my own husband’s well-being! Yes during football season my husband paints his face on Saturdays and on Sundays adorns floppy dog ears while planting himself in front of the television.

That brings us to today. For me, the season is a lost cause for the Browns. So I ran to do some errands and left my husband to scream at the TV by himself. Yes, sitting there with no shirt and his silly floppy ears. So silly but I love him! Well when I left him the Browns were winning 24-3 and the smile that had been missing for so long was back. All was good! Daddy was going to be in a good mood for a week!

Two hours later I came home and watched the final chapter, a heartbreaking loss that never should have been. A last play gut wrenching loss that just took the life out of my husband. I could only imagine the 2 hours of agony and anguish that I missed as I went shopping! My husband is still siting there with his ears on. He looks like the sorriest puppy in the world!

Are Matthew Stafford and Brady Quinn the most poised quarterbacks in the NFL or what? Okay, well maybe they’re not, but they did pretty well when their brutal teams matched up this afternoon. After trailing 24-3 in the first quarter, Stafford led the Lions back, winning 38-37 on the final play of the game on a one-yard hookup with Brandon Pettigrew. The touchdown, Stafford’s fifth of the game, came after a Hank Poteat pass interference call on a desperation hail mary the previous play.

Stafford, who came in with six touchdown passes on the year, threw for 422 yards. Quinn, who took back Cleveland’s starting duties from Derek Anderson last week, threw for 304 yards and a career-high four touchdowns.

Elsewhere, the Colts and Saints stayed undefeated, with Indy winning a 17-15 grinder in Baltimore and New Orleans cruising 38-7 in Tampa Bay. Peyton Manning threw for 299 yards and a touchdown for the Colts and Drew Brees had 187 and three for the Saints.

Other scores from Sunday: Dallas 7, Washington 6 (Game of the Year?); Green Bay 30, San Francisco 24; Kansas City 27, Pittsburgh 24 (OT); Minnesota 35, Seattle 9; NY Giants 34, Atlanta 31 (OT); Jacksonville 18, Buffalo 15 (Terrell Owens had 197 yards receiving — quadrupling his season output to this point); New England 31, NY Jets 14; Arizona 21, St. Louis 13; San Diego 32, Denver sans Orton 3; Oakland! 20, Cincinnati 17.

Clearly the Browns fans are frustrated. This year, the Browns have hit a new low. We just faced the Detroit Lions and we were both 1-8 going into the game and some have tagged the game Bad Bowl 2009. Two of the worst teams in the NFL right now were playing head to head to see if one of the teams can salvage their reputation. I was nervous to see the this game. The first quarter started great and The Browns were winning 24 -3 at one point. I thought to myself, “wow, maybe we aren’t such a mess of a team.” Boy was I wrong. The Lions came back slowly but surely and with 8 seconds left in the game, we were up by 6 points. No way. We aren’t going to lose this game. We can’t lose to the LIONS! Oh yes we can. The Lions scored a touchdown and got the extra point. Detroit Lions 38 – Cleveland Browns 37.

Thank you Browns. We are now an embarrassment and Sundays are getting more and more depressing. I HATE losing and I’m very frustrated. I am and will always still be a Browns fan, but wow, it is difficult.

Thanks for letting me vent. Good thing I’m also a Buckeyes fan!

Two horrible teams will face off in Detroit today. So what can we expect out of each team? It seems right now the Browns are unable to score any points, so I don’t see the Browns scoring. Sure there is a chance the Browns might win this one, but face it were playing the Detroit Lions.
Here are a few things to consider:
> Browns are 1-8
> Lions are 1-8
> The Browns cannot find the end zone at all.
> The Lions have players that can make plays

I think the Lions will win this one 17-0, and the Browns horrible season will continue.

Kickoff is at 1:00 on CBS

Power Thursday (19/Nov/09)

Power Thursday

Indianapolis Colts to beat the Baltimore Ravens This will be another tough game for the Colts but th

Indianapolis Colts to beat the Baltimore Ravens
This will be another tough game for the Colts but they have the offence to cope with all the schemes that the Ravens will bring. They will need another huge game from Manning and either Wayne or Clark but these players are capable of producing big numbers every week.

Dallas Cowboys to beat the Washington Redskins
For some reason I think that this will be a lot closer than many people think since I was impressed with the Redskins last week and totally unimpressed with the Cowboys offence last week. Plus the Redskins have a pretty good record in recent years down at Dallas. Look for Santana Moss to have his usual big game versus the Cowboys secondary but I still think Dallas should be good enough to win this game.

Detroit Lions to beat the Cleveland Browns
Surely even the Lions can beat the Browns, since they are easily the worst team in the NFL right now.

Green Bay Packers to beat the San Francisco 49ers
The Packers showed they still have enough quality to win against tough opposition last week and the 49ers are nowhere near as good as the Cowboys are. So I will be looking for the defence of the Packers to have another big game and for Rodgers to get some more points on the board.

Jacksonville Jaguars to beat the Buffalo Bills
The Bills finally did the right thing and fired Jauron but that isn’t going to instantly make this team any better though you may get the odd player uping their game to show off to the new coach. Not so sure about them signing Brohm either but I’ll wait a while before passing judgement on that. MJD and the Jags should have more than enough to beat the Bills.

Pittsburgh Steelers to beat the Kansas City Chiefs
This is an ideal game for Pittsburgh after their huge loss to the Bengals last week. Playing the Chiefs should allow them to get ahead early and let their defence have some fun. I will be looking for big games from Mendenhall and Roethlisberger.

Minnesota Vikings to beat the Seattle Seahawks
Favre and co will be looking for another win this weekend versus a poor Seahawks team. Percy Harvin will also be looking to impress yet again.

Atlanta Falcons to beat the New York Giants
Matt Ryan and Roddy White will have been looking forward to playing this banged up Giants secondary all week and I just don’t see things getting any easier for Eli and the Giants.

New Orleans Saints to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Yes Josh Freeman has played well so far but the Tampa defence is still not good enough to cope with an offence like the Saints. Well done Reggie Bush last week who showed so of the magic that made him such a high draft pick.

Arizona Cardinals to beat the St Louis Rams
Kurt Warner will show the Rams fans why his new team has been compared to his Rams team in the past. Fitzgerald will look to have a big game. Only question remain is whether or not the Cardinals can slow down Jackson who is playing great.

San Diego Chargers to beat the Denver Broncos
Denver is in free fall and the Chargers are on the charge. Then you add in the fact that Orton is unlikely to start and this looks like an easy victory for Rivers and co.

New England Patriots to beat the New York Jets
The Jets early season form is a thing of the past and they just don’t look like a team that can go to New England and get a result.

Cincinnati Bengals to beat the Oakland Raiders
Finally Tom Cable did something right in Oakland and that was to bench the biggest draft pick for ages, JaMarcus Russell. Yet again Russell has shown that arm strength just isn’t that important in the NFL. Cutler and Russell seem to be fighting to be the next Jeff George. The Bengals while beat up will easily take care of this poor Raiders team.

Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Chicago Bears
Cutler is a joke and the Eagles are playing well so this should be an easy win for the Eagles plus all of Cutlers bad games have come during evening games.

Tennessee Titans to beat the Houston Texans
Now if the Titans wear their old uniforms for this one will the locals know who to support? The Titans are on a roll and I expect them to keep it going with a win versus the Texans. Though this could turn into a bit of a shoot out.

This Sundays Browns game against the Detroit Lions may be Eric Mangini’s last game as head coach of

This Sundays Browns game against the Detroit Lions may be Eric Mangini’s last game as head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Even though Randy Lerner says he will stick with him for the rest of the season. There are a few factors that just may get Eric Mangini fired early next week. I have a feeling if the Browns get shutout by the Lions then Mangini will be fired. If the Browns at least score a few points then his job will be safe for another week. Also if the Browns were to lose like 27-3, he will be fired.
Don’t hold me accountable if this doesn’t happen, but I have a feeling this is most likely how it will go down.
So just how good are the Detroit Lions? The Lions are 1-8, but don’t let their record fool you. They have played a lot of good teams and put up good fights against all of them. Detroit was only shutout one time this season and that was against Green Bay. In all the other games they have scored at least 10 points. They even put up 27 points against the 9-1 New Orleans team. Detroit has players that will make big plays unlike the Browns. The Browns and Lions have the same record, but the way the Browns season is going I have a feeling the Lions are going to beat the Browns big. I’m not even sure if the Browns will score any points against the Lions. If they do it will be a couple of field goals. There is no way the Browns are going score any touchdowns any time soon unless they start calling better plays. Get ready Browns fans for another horrible game this weekend. It sure looks like 1-15 season is in the near future for the Cleveland Browns.

Damn, my bad ATI. I basically had to let passion drop it in my draws this week so I could take next

Damn, my bad ATI. I basically had to let passion drop it in my draws this week so I could take next week off for Thanksgiving. One of the sacrifices I had to make was delaying my weekly Browns post. I know I’m a few days late but its finally that time, and I’m gonna hit you with the “highlights”:

After watching the “highlights” I pose this question, if the Ravens and the Browns play a Monday night game and there’s a second half, does anyone besides the players know it? I think the answer is yes, but ONLY because of sportscenter highlights the next morning. Honestly, if you stayed up to watch that second half after the 0-0(which was the first scoreless half of this nfl season)first half then either A you’re a jerk or B you have no life. For the sake of this post I managed to battle and forced myself to make it to the 2minute warning in the 2nd quarter, then I suddenly realized i was slowly reaching for a rope to strangle myself and had to turn it off. Because of that, I missed this

That Cribbs hit didn’t look bad, but apparently he had to go to the hospital and stay over night, you never want to see that happen. Hey Brady, if you stop chop blocking dudes after you throw interceptions maybe the only play maker on your team wouldn’t have had to spend the night in the hospital. There’s not much more to say about the game itself, it was pathetic and possibly the WORST Monday night game ever(for some reason, week 13 they get a Thursday night game. WHO IS BOOKING THIS TEAM FOR PRIME TIME TELEVISION??????). This is the real news

Apparently Eric “I’m only going to last one year” Mangini made some flattering remarks about Lebron after Lebron said he could probably help the Browns win some games. 1 Mangini said nicer things about King James than he has ever said about a single player on any of his teams. 2 Sad to say, but Lebron really probably could help this team win. Maybe that’s how the Cavs will keep him in the worst city ever Cleveland, they’ll give him the opportunity to play two sports. Yea right, for all those Crazy New York fans let me tell you this. Lebron isn’t going anywhere. He’ll visit, he’ll make it look like NY is the place to be, but he will stay with the Cavs. Fact.

This Sunday we have the Wow This Game Is Actually Happening Bowl between the Lions(gross) and the Browns(yuck). The question I asked earlier was if the Browns and Ravens play a 2nd half on Monday night, does anyone watch. Well here’s a better question, if the Lions and Browns play, does anyone watch? My guess is no. I’d rather be at work suffering from high amounts of passion than watch this game
