Så där ja, svårare än så var det inte. Jessica, den fiktiva forskaren, monstret som egentligen vill lämnas ifred men tvingas att gå i kamp mot omvärlden.

They sent him to another universe, they tricked him, and they lied to him. They sent him to another world, they claimed he would find peace but instead he found war. Planet Hulk is one of the best graphic novels I have read since the Watchmen, real talk bee! My man Jay let me hold it at work and I fell in love with the story. Basically it involves Reed (Bitch) Richard, Doc Strange, Black Bolt and Ironman. These 4 bitch niggas tricked the Hulk to leave Earth then BOOM sent him to another world where he would become a slave. On the new planet Hulk is very weak and must regain his strength over time, but we all know the angrier Hulk gets the stronger! If you into the graphic novel thing or not, It’s an all around good read. Oh yea IT’S THE HULK BEE!!!! HHTT APPROVED

Worth Noting:

• Even though NC State isn’t playing at home this week, expect the turf at Carter-Finley to need reseeding following the massive U2 concert taking place Saturday night.  Unless, of course, the band decides to skip town like they did back in ‘97.  Which probably wasn’t a bad thing since Pop Mart sucked IMHO.
• As mentioned earlier, Miami will be facing an Oklahoma team sans QB Sam Bradford.  His replacement, Landry Jones, isn’t exactly up to par when it comes to going long.  But it is an area Hurricanes QB Jacory Harris does quite well, despite struggling against a potent defense at VT last week.
• Given UNC’s poor performance against Georgia Tech last week, you have to wonder if UVa picked a bad time to travel down to Chapel Hill.  However, a bye week and history may be on the Cavaliers’ side, holding an 18-6-1 edge over the past quarter century.  Then again, most of those wins were in Charlottesville …
• Split Personality?  Well, it appears to be the case for Florida State so far this season.  Andrea Adelson from the Orlando Sentinel reports of an unusual transformation taking place amongst Bobby Bowden and his players.  Good thing it doesn’t involve Bruce Banner, though.

Some Thoughts Before The Review: I’ll be honest and admit that I’m pretty torn about the conclusion of Old Man Logan before even reading a single page of it. Why? The $4.99 price tag.

The Story: Logan gets revenge against the Hulk clan…

What’s Good: As far as violent, brutal confrontations go, Logan’s strike against the members of the Hulk family is top-notch. The blood flies early and often as Logan’s rage is let out in full force. It’s entertaining as hell and suitably epic from start to finish.

While Mark Millar tosses in some cool dialogue here and there (“People piss themselves when I get angry.”), the majority of Giant-Size Old Man Logan is almost entirely a showcase for the talent of Steve McNiven and his art team. McNiven’s pencils are nearly flawless and do an excellent job of detailing the carnage that Logan unleashes. Simply put, the gore is something to see for those that like it bloody. Also, thanks to Morry Hollowell’s colors and the inking done by Dexter Vines and Mark Morales, nothing gets lost in all the chaos. Everything pops off the page in a way that really shows what McNiven is capable of.

The action is what you should buy Giant Size Logan for, but that doesn’t mean that action is all the book has to offer. Mark Millar wraps his tale up rather well and leaves the door wide open for more exploration of the universe that he’s created. In addition, a few of the slower moments of Giant-Size Old Man Logan deliver what I like to call “poster-worthy moments,” courtesy of Steve McNiven and his team. Wolverine staring at the Hulk kids, claws out… quite badass and iconic if you ask me.

What’s Not So Good: The biggest problem I have with Giant-Size Old Man Logan is how quickly it’s over. For $4.99, the comic is one hell of a fast read. Sure it’s pretty satisfying and damn impressive looking as a whole, but the extra padding that is supposed to help justify the price tag (cover images and pencil/ink work) just simply isn’t worth the extra buck.

Another complaint I have is that, occasionally, Steve McNiven’s storytelling seems to be a bit off. There’s either a jump in the action or the panel/page is a bit hard to follow. The best example of what I’m talking about comes when something tears through members of Hulk’s family. I’m still not entirely sure exactly what takes place in that scene or even how that scene came to be.

Conclusion: The great-looking Giant-Size Old Man Logan definitely caps Millar’s Wolverine arc well. That said, I’m not entirely convinced it’s worth the price tag. Check it out, but just be aware that, outside of the visuals, you aren’t getting as much as you might think for your five bucks.

No es un secreto que durante la producción de “El Increíble Hulk” de Louis Leterrier, el actor protagonista Edward Norton tuvo diferencias creativas con el estudio sobre la visión del personaje, lo que le provocó numerosos enfados con los directivos de Marvel Studios.

Es por ello que siempre que es posible se le pregunta sobre su futuro en el mundo de los superhéroes encarnando a Bruce Banner, y aprovechando que se pasó por el Toronto International Film Festival se le cuestionó sobre si realizará algún cameo en las futuras producciones marvelitas como ya viene siendo habitual con otros personajes y siguiendo la idea de crear un universo de superhéroes interrelacionados que culmine con el ambicioso proyecto “The Avengers” en 2012.

«Lo he oído. No sé de donde ha salido eso. Por lo que sé, no estoy en “Iron Man 2”» contesto Norton cuando se le pregunto por el cameo en la secuela de la taquillera “Iron Man”.

Así que por ahora nada de nada, o no quiere soltar prenda para que sea una sorpresa o simplemente no esta en ella. Ahora mismo que Norton vuelva a encarnar a Bruce Banner en la pantalla grande es una incógnita, pero este hecho no quita que el gigante verde aparezca en “The Avengers”.

Edward Norton has had a busy filming schedule this past year, with the scheduled release of three movies: Iron Man 2, Stone, and Motherless Brooklyn. These three films will showcase completely different artistic styles of Norton, and all of which I am extremely excited about.

The first to be released will be Iron Man 2 on May 7th, 2010. In this film he will be continuing his role as Bruce Banner (The Hulk) as he joins co-stars Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) and Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Ramanoff / Black Widow). This film will be the most publicized role of Norton’s this summer, even though it will be the only film in which he is not the lead.

Stone, Norton’s second film of the summer, will be released around the same time as Iron Man 2 and will be co-starring the one-and-only Robert De Niro.  After watching the trailer for this, I am worried about the lack of a solid plot. I hope that the sheer brilliant acting these two can produce will make this film worthwhile to see. Judge for yourself, the trailer is over at The Movie Blog.

The third film of Norton in 2010 is  Motherless Brooklyn. Norton co-wrote, directed, and starred in this film about is about a New York detective with Tourette’s Syndrome whose mentor is murdered. In which he then feels compelled to go and find the killer. I am excited that Norton has finally branched out once again into the directors chair, and I cannot wait to see this film. It is expected to have an early fall release.

Here’s a funny clip from the amazing Incredible Hulk Tv show where Banner is trying to use the pay phone. It seems he’s just not getting the results that he hoped for and well you can guess that makes him ANGRY!! Usually you have to kick the shit out of him to get him to change into the Hulk. But as you can see here all you have to be is an irritating phone operator to get him into a complete maniacal rage!! Next time just dial 911 maybe?! Oh yeah and not having enough change at the payphone always sucked but really banner-calm the hell down already!

Stories To Tell Before I Forget:
“My Deadliest Weapon”

I have absolutely zero shame in saying the following statement: I’m a 32-year-old man and I still think farting is funny.

Of course, I can hear my mom’s eyes rolling as she reads this, but it’s absolutely true. I mean, just stop and think about the pure math of gas:

The world’s population is approximately 6.7 billion people. The average person passes gas fourteen times a day, emitting around a liter of gas every 24 hours. That means, on any given day, 93.8 billion farts take place all across the globe, shooting almost 7 billion liters of stink into our atmosphere.

And that’s just humans! That’s not including gaseous cows, elephants, or Mr. Fabulous, who I’m quite sure produces far more than a liter of gas a day.

And yet, with all of this gas being passed, with nearly 100 billion farts going on in the world every single day, the topic remains taboo. Instead, we choose to ignore or lie about them, burying ourselves deep in our seats to ensure that not one whiff of an embarrassing odor leaks out into a room to perhaps–gasp!–silently make its way to someone’s nose!

My Grandpa Hi-Guy (nickname, not his birth name) was a very funny man. When it came to comedy, my grandfather knew just what to say and just how to say it to make an entire room of people crack up. But one item not in his comedic arsenal was flatulence.

I remember passing gas in front of him once and reacting as if it had been the funniest thing I had ever done, or probably ever would do. Hoping to get a laugh out of the old man, I instead found myself getting yelled at. Not because I had passed gas in front of him, but because he didn’t appreciate my shtick.

“It’s too easy,” I remember him telling me. “It’s just a sound gag. Everybody does it, which makes it not funny at all.”

Over the years, I took a lot of what Hi-Guy taught me to heart. I learned a lot from him, including what was funny and what wasn’t. Yet, as much as I learned from him, I can’t stress this enough: When it comes to the comedic value of passing gas, he was wrong.

What makes passing gas funny is the very thing that Hi-Guy said made it unfunny: Everybody does it.

If just one person in the world passed gas, he or she would be labeled a “freak.” If only ten people did it, they’d be a “rare case” and Discovery Health would do an hour-long special on them. But the fact that all of us are roaming the earth and tooting along the way makes it hilarious. At least it does to me.

Maybe it’s because I never outgrew it. Maybe it’s because I have an innate talent/curse when it comes to flatulence. (My friends can attest to that.) Or maybe it’s just because, whether we like to admit it or not, it actually is funny.

One night in the late-eighties, my mother had made my sister Bethany and me what I’m sure was a delicious home-cooked meal. (I’m trying to win points with her here, since I’m sure this particular story isn’t her cup of tea.) The exact details of the meal remain hazy, but its after-effects have, over the years, become a thing of Shady legend.

As usually was the case after dinner, Bethany and I went into the living room to watch TV while our mother cleared the table and did the dishes.

That night, I was in rare form. I’m not exactly sure why it was so atrocious; possibly because of the dinner we had just finished, or maybe because of the remnants of a cafeteria lunch from earlier in the day. Whatever the suspect meal, it had caused some inner turmoil inside my bowels that rumbled through me like thunder through a canyon.

It began innocently enough: Bethany and I were sitting next to each other on the couch when all of a sudden–FIRF!

My sister reacted pretty intensely to that first one. To this day, I firmly believe that if she hadn’t reacted in that way at first, she probably would have saved herself from a world of smelly pain. But the fact that I had gotten a rise out of her made one thing abundantly clear: It was on.

Just as soon as a thick cloud would dissipate, I’d be cocked and ready to fire with brand-new ammunition–FIRF!

Bethany began to move away from me, which only solidified in stone my goal of doing it near her.

She’d move to the love seat; I’d move to the love seat–FIRF! She’d move to the floor; I’d move to the floor–FIRF!

This scenario repeated itself for probably a good ten minutes. Of course, to my tortured younger sister, I’m sure it felt like days.

It went something like this:

1.) Bethany moves to a new area of the living room.

2.) I chase after her.

3.) FIRF!

4.) Bethany screams.

5.) Our mom yells at both of us from the kitchen.

6.) Go back to #1. Repeat.

Finally, our mother had had enough. With Bethany’s chest pinned underneath my behind, our mother stormed into the living room with a wet plate raised in her right hand, dish soap dripping down it and onto the carpet.

I was laughing maniacally. Bethany was sobbing softly. Our mother was dead serious.

Ma Shady: “JUSTIN ROBERT SHADY! KNOCK IT OFF!”

Bethany: (quietly crying)

Justin: “What?!? I’m just farting!”

Ma Shady: “You are not just farting! You’re using them as weapons! Do not use your farts as weapons!”

Up until that moment in my young life, I don’t think I had ever laughed harder. I spent the rest of the evening in my bedroom of course, but A) I kind of deserved it, and B) it was worth it.

That night, my gas had surpassed being merely squeaks of offensive odor. Instead, they became WADs: Weapons of Ass-Destruction.

From that point on, everything was different; I was a changed boy. I felt like Peter Parker after being bitten by a radioactive spider, or Bruce Banner after being exposed to the radiation of a gamma bomb. What would I do with such power? Would I use it for good throughout my life, or evil?

Sadly, I must admit that I’ve been a villain far more than a hero when it comes to flatulence. But I stand by what I’ve always said: It’s still damn funny.

Sorry if I let you down, Hi-Guy.

Catching Up: HULK SMASH Puny History

     First of all, that’s Fantastic Four #569, not 469.  Twits.  At long last, the mind-bendingly horrible final storyline of Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch’s run on this series is over.  And for all intents and purposes, aside from the plot and that atrocious cover, neither of them even worked on this issue.  Instead, Millar’s collaborator, Joe Ahearne, wrote the script, and Stuart Immonen did the art.  Stuart is a good artist, but it’s frustrating that these guys can’t even have the self-respect to finish their own storyline.  Anyway, Mr. Fantastic’s back.  The F4 realize that it’s him, and the Thing decides to go kill Clyde Wyncham to stop the Marquis of Death and his army of Fantastic Fours.  Reed and Valeria work on creating a technological deus ex machina, and Clyde convinces the Thing to let him help.  Clyde and the Marquis “duke” it out, and the F4 use the deus ex machina to drain all the alternate universe people’s powers and use them to defeat the Marquis.  In the end, his apprentice reveals himself as Dr. Doom, who survived the megalodons and all those millennia by the sheer force of his malice.  The Marquis is dead, Dr. Doom has a pointless power-up, and now he claims he doesn’t care about Reed anymore.  Then, the Thing decides that he can’t marry Debbie Green because he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if she died.  So she, as a character, served no purpose.  There’s some moments that are supposed to be sad, and it’s over.

     Holy crap, this was crap.  The whole last issue fell apart even more than the previous ones.  This was one of the single worst issues of a comic book I’ve ever read.  The Marquis of Death and Clyde Wyncham were pointless characters that ultimately served no lasting purpose, and now Dr. Doom is more powerful, even though that doesn’t seem to be reflected in any of the other Marvel series.  And seriously?  “I survived because I hate him so much?”  That’s just stupid writing.  The only thing worse than killing off Dr. Doom in that manner was pretending to kill him off in that manner because Millar didn’t have the guts to actually do anything that meant anything.  And the whole wedding thing was stupid.  For one, Spider-Man’s identity is in the closet again, so I don’t know how anyone knew that he loved Gwen Stacy.  Then, I think the mysterious fourth person is Bruce Banner.  But that subplot served no purpose, since Ben hasn’t changed at all as a character.  In fact, all he did was cause this woman grief.  And the very idea that Ben would say that he’s not much of a hero is so idiotic.  Ben is probably the biggest hero of the Fantastic Four, and the idea that he would be willing to kill Clyde is just a bad attempt at creating conflict.  Stuart Immonen’s pencils were fine, but goodness knows that his talents were wasted.  At least we don’t have to read anymore of this waste of paper.  Jonathan Hickman is coming to save the day from Mark Millar’s all style writing style, and everything will be fine once more.  We can pretend like none of this ever happened, since, aside from the new costumes, no other series seems to care about it.
