It will be held from 19^th October 2012 to 3^rd February 2013 in Vienna at the Kunsthalle “Xtravaganza, staging Leigh Bowery”, exhibition, curated by Angela Stief, paying homage to Leigh Bowery, unforgettable persona, celebrated fashion designer and performer artist who featured in the Eighties new-romantic scene as Blitz Kid in London and later in early Nineties as Club Kid in the New York club scene created by the iconic party promoter Michael Alig. The exhibition will include works by Leigh Bowery and Anthony & the Johnsons, Peter Ashworth, Charles Atlas, Nicola Bateman, Bruce Bernard, Boy George, Michael Clark, Cerith Wyn Evans, Avram Finkelstein, Lucian Freud, Padhi Frieberger, Rudi Gernreich, Alex Gerry, Fergus Greer, Richard Habberley, Dick Jewell, Martin Margiela/Marina Faust, John Maybury, Minty, Nick Knight, Jean-Claude Lagrèze, Catherine Opie/Ron Athey, Werner Pawlok, Mr. Pearl, Raw Sewage, Johnny Rozsa, Sue Tilley, Trojan, Donald Urquhart, Baillie Walsh, John Waters/Divine, Fred Whisker, David Wojnarowicz and U.V.A. celebrating the work of a creative who thought about himself as a canvas and acted under the sign of eccentricity, “doing the opposite” – as he asserted – “of what people expected”, an ethic under the sign of humor and subversion of clichés of conformism. Beauty photographer Bruce Soyez Bernard‘s latest story is a deviation from the norm. Well, sort of. We represent Bruce as an expert in beauty and hair photography…and HE IS. But the man is so much more. He shoots a ton of fashion, mixing his beauty skills in for good measure. His latest shoot is for Kurv Magazine – a cutting edge editorial out of Australia.

From Bruce: When Rebecca and I decided to work on a theme of a powerful woman as a goddess for an accessories story, I felt the light and mood would have to be mysterious, poetic, lyrical and translate something supernatural. I had in mind Greek mythology. I wanted the model to be a heroine, a goddess rising from the ground, warring against other gods with sky and clouds being the battleground whilst using her beauty as a weapon. She finally rests and wears the treasures won.

Seems like there’s testosterone in the air…and we aren’t complaining!

Don’t get us wrong, we love a girlie shoot. Between Fusion, Vera Wang, Conair, John Frieda, Essence, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmo…well, we’ve seen our fair share! So when the “dude” work started to pour in, we were a little shaken. Could it be? Do male driven products EXIST? Based on client response, the answer is YES.

Lucian Freud (Part 1)

Just around the corner of the National Portrait Gallery in London is a shop with a triggering slogan above their entrance: ‘Let’s fill this town with artists’ – an art material supplier called Cass Art. In February some galleries thought ‘Let’s fill this town with Lucian Freud’ as three galleries programmed an exhibition on the late artist’s work.

First of all there is the ‘Lucian Freud Portraits’ show at the National Portrait Gallery, which coincides with ‘Lucian Freud: Studio Life’ – a series of photographs by David Dawson exhibited at Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert gallery. Dawson was Freud’s assistant and he recorded the daily goings on in the studio, offering glimpses of portrait sittings and paintings in progress. Blain Southern (Mayfair) presents ‘Lucian Freud Drawings’, a show consisting of more than 100 drawings made by the artist encompassing more than 7o years of his oeuvre.

Also, Christie’s will have an auction in February of Freud’s work: ‘The Printer’s Proof: Etchings by Lucian Freud from the Studio Prints archive’ that comprises 44 lots. Sotheby’s evening auction of Contemporary Art will include five drawings by the late artist.

In this post some of Freud’s work, which can be seen at the Christie’s viewing that aptly demonstrates what a friend of the artist, Bruce Bernard, wrote about his work: “a deepened sense – far beyond the scope of a photograph or any other medium – of how certain human beings looked and felt in the second half of the Twentieth Century.”
