Don’t take the title too literally.

Hahaha it’s funny how everything ends up in a cycle, couture becomes second-hand becomes vintage becomes antique becomes couture. French fries become fat become gym membership become skinny become french fries. And now runways become teen-blogger talk become designer talk become runways. Yes, this season the designers went back to (their interpretation of) childhood. We saw backpacks, kittens and birds and dogs, chunky heels, mary janes, pre-adolescent models (and A-lines, ruching and layers to accommodate their underdeveloped bodies), jackets, peacoats, collared shirts, peter-pan collars, lots of bows (in the hair) and hearts and polka-dots, pleated skirts, braids, afro’s, tweed, ruffles, awkward layering, pink, navy, orange, thigh high socks and even a ring binder inspired clutch at Miu Miu

With a (thank god!) injection of…sexy! At Miu Miu we saw an artistic naked print all over the dresses, shirts and skirt…(who doesn’t want that!), conservative dresses were updated with not-so conservative panels, fabric were sequin and crystal sprayed, there was transparency, a lot of it, hems were chopped short and sportswear was made out of revealing netting. All hail Muccia Prada who does Miu Miu, she reinvented the 14-year-old, kept her geekyness and laughter but made her sexy, sophisticated and professional. “I was questioning innocence, questioning youth.”

But is it really surprising? No! What was Nicole Phelps talking about when she reviewed Miu Miu? “They didn’t quite fit into this season’s naïf narrative. But they did make playing grown-up look like a lot of fun.”(she’s right about the second part!) With teenage bloggers rising to new heights (think Tavi Gevinson from Style Rookie on the cover of Pop, Bryan from BryanBoy at Marc Jacobs -got a bag named after him- and Vogue Russia, Jane Aldridge from Sea of Shoes at Elle and Crillion dressed in Chanel Haute Couture and Noa Leijdesdorff from Brains and Beauty at London Fashion Week and NET-A-PORTER.com) “Talks to her friends on the phone like an Editor in Chief talks to her PA, stomping around like mini Editors shooting street-style pictures like Mini Sartorialists and getting press passes confiscated by security for being underage” (a not so kind but humorous piece) written by Isaac Lock about Noa Leijdesdorff for the LFW Daily. It’s teenbloggers that constantly push designers boundaries, we have no needy publisher to satisfy or important advertiser to hold on to…we can say exactly what we think. We’ve gone back to having total absolute fun something lost sometimes in the commerciallll environment these days.-

One word about Louis Vuitton ss10, yesyesyes when you separate all the fabrics and pieces and accessories -I mean come on, you can recognize Marc Jacobs styling in 1 second…horror horror- you can see beauty, but lets not get carried away shall we? Marc Jacobs is a genius, and he likes to have fun, and go crazy, and wear skirts…and we love him! But Louis Vuitton is bought by le riche! And the 14 year olds we know don’t shop Vuitton, it’s the 44 year olds…maybe he’ll have to rework this one slightly for the hanger. Marc we’ll forgive you for this one, the music, starting two minutes early without half of the front row arriving and “so wrong they’re so right” clogs made up for some lost points.

XX Brains + Beauty

You name them, we follow them. Whether it’s the self-imposed muses at Kingdom of Style, or the king of street stalking Sartorialist, fashion bloggers are the future.

We’ve shown our admiration for the Susie Style Bubbles, Bryan Boys and Tommy Tons, and Journalists from industry fashion bibles continue praise the mantras of those already on top. But fashion leaders must always be on the lookout for what’s new – what’s hot. Especially when a majority of the fashion bloggers shop at the same places.

The creme de la creme of High street retailers: American Apparel, Urban Outfitters, H&M, and Topshop are forever indebted to the fashionistas who consistently create looks on their blogs that inspire a growing batch of followers. Without this new school of “unofficial” spokespeople, fashion retailer’s net profits would plummet at jet speed.

This post is an ode the new generation of bloggers. They’re young, fashion-forward, and proudly Canadian.

Regardless of how different they are in content, the selected fashionistas have three things in common: high street style, thrift shops and character.

The Dreamer: Rachel, 16, Serva Me, Servabo Te.

This young blogger loves pretty floral print dresses and far away places. In July 2008, Rachel founded  Save me, And I Will Save You. With piercing green eyes, fiery red hair, and a direct sense of fashion, Rachel updates her followers about fashion finds at Toronto’s vintage shops, and has a knack for binding art, fantasy books and music into her fashion entries. Though she has a passion for fashion, it’s easy to see her cultivating a career in the literary world, maybe with Penguin Books.

The Fashion Creator: Katia, 17, Blinding Bright Lights.

Whether Katia’s venturing european countries or strolling NYC, this Montrealer/Student  is a self-proclaimed “fashion-obsessed vegetarian with extremely high hopes for the future.” Fashion through her eyes is a cluttered barrage of colour, and putting looks together is much like changing underwear – she does it often. Her posts garner a legion of responses, which means she’s becoming a prominent voice within Canada’s fashion blogsphere. Maybe she’ll launch her own line, land a job at Colette or French Elle.

The Fashion Editor: Lea, 13, Lea Likes Fashion.

Don’t be fooled by the pouty demure in this picture; there’s nothing emo about Lea’s blog. In fact, it’s along the lines of UK’s Grazia. At just 13-years-old, Lea’s one of the most underrated yet promising personalities in Canadian fashion – literally. She’s a woman of little words but high on visual content. Noting Alexander McQueen as one of her favorite designers, she’s quick to post pre-season haute couture collections and one-on-one guides of her own daily looks. She’s got the look that will land her in front row of fashion weeks, and she’s got lifestyle flair; she posts food recipes and tips making her a well-rounded blogger. Word to the wise Lea, have you seen MCQ’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection of to die for bags?

The Society Girl: Olivia, 21, Stylestruck.ca.

She’s got a cute cropped cut and kick ass heels. And when she’s not giving the low down of what’s in her closet, Fashion Blogger Olivia does her own rendition of street stalking. She’s all about who’s who in the Vancouver’s (and abroad) fashion scene. She’s got a positive attitude and wears a bright smile to match. She’s definitely one of those fashionistas you’ll see working the PR circuit for a well-renowned fashion house, maybe Diane Von Furstenberg?

The Glam Girl: Abbey, 16, Abbey Karson Blog.

Abbey’s got enough style to be apart of the team behind über-fashion mags like Pop, or Katie Grand’s Love. Note the british mags mentioned; that’s because she’s cool, maybe too cool to be in Canada. With her doll-like features and semi-beehive hairstyle, Abbey is essentially Britpop to-the-max. The quality of the images on her blog are stunning and the fashion-girl-against-rural-backdrop (except when she is in front of her magazine poster plastered wall) is fresh and exciting.

The Indie Fashion Maven: Siân, 23, Good Stuff Here.

Out of all the bloggers, Siân would probably be the most anti-mainstream, though she genuinely is the most avant-garde. This Makeup Artist from Toronto’s style resonates throughout her blog; she’s one of those personalities you can see getting in with weekly indies like Toronto’s Now! Magazine, or working her magic through commissions from Creative Agencies. She’s an unapologetic blogger, not afraid to voice her dislikes which gives her platform a niche following. And, considering a lot of the fluff bloggers tend to do (myself included), that’s not such a bad thing. If all else fails, she can always become a spokes model for Carri Mundane’s Cassette Playa collection.

Wow, who would’ve thought?

There was a time when it was blasphemy for fashion blogs and print magazines to be in the same room together. Now, the Fashion Blogger has become the dominant voice in the industry, with invites and mentions in the world’s most prestigious press outlets. The most recent blogger to make the headlines is the Philippines-based Bryanboy, in a Financial Times article respectively titled: “Style bloggers take centre stage” by Deputy Fashion Editor Nicola Copping.  In the headlining image  is Bryanboy sitting next to the world’s most renowned fashion voices (those include Anna Wintour and IHT’s Suzy Menkes).

Bryan Boy’s personality is quite reflective on his blog; he’s a very sweat guy. I wish him so much success as he has become one of the most influential style voices out there.

This -ahem- week’s style icon had to be really epic to make up for the weeks that I have skipped this section of my blog. Therefore I thought it would be appropriate the author of one of my favorite fashion blogs; None other than the fabulous BryanBoy himself, the Marc Jacobs-rocking fashionista who has been photographed strutting around elite Paris fashion shoes in much higher (and more expensive) heels than I will ever wear. WERQ!

Having reached virtual popularity of global proportions, fashion blogger Bryanboy was out and about during Milan’s 2010 womenswear week showing the fashion world, he’s more than just an avatar. Swide caught up with him to quiz him on how he started, how the fashion houses have changed in their attitude’s towards him and importantly – what he was wearing. Watch the video above….

It’s been a day since the start of Fashion Week and while browsing through Duckie Brown’s S/S 2010 collection, I found another use for my Bryan Boy addiction. I thought to myself, “Wait, wait a minute, didn’t I see a bow last year on Byran Boy?” Feverishly browsing through Bryan Boy’s archives I confirmed my suspicions and now I’ve presented it for all you fashionistas to see. Daniel Silver, Steven Cox, and I are not too different in some respects after all — we’re all addicted.

Hello darling! I’d just like to say I much I love BryanBoy ! I’ve been reading BryanBoy’s blog for ages, ever since I saw the pictures of models backstage holding “I love BryanBoy” signs. And my love has just soared since he’s currently here in Melbourne for Spring Fashion Week and to open the Marc Jacobs films at ACMI.

 I’m naming this dress I made the ‘B.B.’ dress after the blogging master himself!

The 170-year-old  Canadian department store (70 years older than Selfridges London) has dedicated each window display to a number of notorious fashion blogs, including; The Sartorialist, Bryan Boy, Garance Dore, Sea of Shoes, Jak & Jil and I want I got. Really really clever.

Tonight at midnight Holt Renfrew will pay tribute to six fashion bloggers with a national window installation.

“BLOGGER WINDOWS: Holt Renfrew is the latest fashion player to catch social media fever. The Canadian department store chain is preparing a series of blogger-inspired window displays for nine stores, including the Toronto and Vancouver flagships. Due to be unveiled Friday, the windows will salute high-profile names in the fashion blogosphere, notably The Sartorialist’s Scott Schuman, Bryanboy, Tommy Ton (Jak & Jil) and 17-year-old Texan Jane Aldridge (Sea of Shoes). Engineered by Holt Renfrew’s creative director John Gerhardt — and apparently with no direct input from the bloggers themselves — the windows will include captures from the blogs and possibly mannequins dressed as the bloggers. The windows won’t be the first retail hookups for Schuman and Ton. In 2006, Schuman inspired a similar visual merchandising project at Saks Fifth Avenue and he has shot advertising campaigns for DKNY Jeans and Australia’s SABA chain, while Ton recently shot a campaign for Hong Kong’s Lane Crawford. And retail isn’t the only industry courting fashion bloggers. Last Thursday, in a temporary art gallery in Munich, Absolut Vodka unveiled “Visions in an Absolut World,” an exhibition of 121 artworks created by 11 bloggers — including Bryanboy, The Cobrasnake, Facehunter and Les Mads.” [SOURCE]

         I feel Cream, el nuevo disco de la canadiense Peaches ya está a la venta, around the world, desde el pasado 5 de Mayo. Talk to Me ha sido su primer single cuyo vídeo podéis ver aquí; oscuro, siniestro, misterioso y muy punki, como ella misma. A mí me encanta, todo sea dicho.

        Aunque no he podido evitar sentir cierta inquietud nada más ver entrar en escena a las chicas éstas ataviadas con pelucas enmarañadas cubriéndoles la cara a lo gore nipón. De pronto me he acordado de Margiela para este verano, y de Kate Moss vistiendo su abrigo para una de las portadas del Summer Issue de V Magazine, y del corto presentación de Mareunrol’s Private Detective que vimos en el último 080 Barcelona Fashion (galardonados, por cierto, en Hyères hace unos días)… y yo me pregunto: No, en serio ¿qué pasa con todo este pelo*?

         I feel Cream, the brand new album of the canadian singer Peaches was finally released worldwide last May 5th. Talk to Me has been its first single which video you can see in here; dark, creepy, misterious and really punk, as herself. I really like it, I must confess.

        Though I couldn’t help feeling some kind of restlessness when I first saw all these girls wearing tangled wigs covering their faces, very japanese gore like. All of a sudden I thought of  Margiela’s collection for this summer, of Kate Moss wearing his coat in one of the V Magazine Summer Issue covers, of Mareunrol’s Private Detective short-film that we saw in last 080 Barcelona Fashion (awarded, by the way, in Hyères some days ago)… and I wonder: No, really, what’s going on with all that fur*?

        * Not fur like fur coat. Fur like hair, I mean.
