i’ve also encountered a great Lady: Bibi Russel. She is an international former top model of the seventies who has created 

“Fashion for Development”, a project promoting the techniques of Bangladeshi craftsmen. Bibi is also Embassador of the Unesco.

The first time I met her I’ve been so impressed by her beauty and her charisma. She has also took under her protection many children of the streets of Dhaka. I visited her workshop many times. An outstanding place in Dhaka downtown and I’ve recorded there some great Bauls artists.

Typical “Bauls” of Bangladesh are people who attempt to liberate the soul from the body through music and dance.

Bibi set up for me a meeting with Farida Parveen, a notable artist in Bangladesh. 

She also drove me to visit the Dhahka Movies Studio. Something similar to Bollywwod. It is an incredible place. You feel yourself like in a Fellini film.

During my stay, I’ve also visited the country side. I saw rivers, lakes, the water is everywhere. There are so many villages where people have an antique way of life. Bangladesh is 162 millions people and the territory is the quarter of France. 

I’m so scared for their future with the Global Warming.

 I’ve also visited Sonargaon which is the former main city of the country.A bewitching place with a very old Palace located near a lake.

Bangladesh is one of the world ’s fascinating places I’ve visited.

I ‘ll never forget my “Baul Dimension” Experience .

Sylvie Desroches

Eleven years ago, and at the end of a bad relationship, Sylvie looked to running as a way to claim independence and to ignite passion in her life. Life circumstances had other plans and she found herself leaving the relationship, relocating and rebuilding her life. Ten years later, she took the plunge into the world of running by signing up for a Learn to Run clinic at her local Running Room. “Friends had told me that they had registered and so I jumped at the chance,” she recalls. “Of course, the bottle of wine I had consumed might have had something to do with it.”

This past year, Sylvie ran the Chilly Half as her first half-marathon (2:18), then the Toronto Women’s Half (2:09), the Marathon Oasis de Montreal Half (2:17), and finished her season with the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Half Marathon (2:13). “One of the most memorable running moments was definitely Montreal,” Sylvie recalls. “Seeing the Olympic Stadium in distance — I got chocked up seeing it so close and knowing that there was only 6k to go — it gave me a huge burst of energy.”

When not training for an event, Sylvie enjoys mixing up running with friends and running alone. “In true Libra form, I enjoy both. I prefer to run alone for my LSD runs because I like to keep it slow. But for speed work and hills, I really enjoy running with friends.”

Sunday mornings you can often find Sylvie running on the new Martin Goodman Trail, one of her favourites in Toronto. “It’s really beautiful, wide and busy,” says Sylvie. “There are always lots of runners and cyclists, so you’re never completely on your own. It’s also relatively flat with just one tiny hill and the best part is running so close to the lake.”

At 51, Sylvie is not short on running goals. While not looking to achieve a specific time goal, she has her eyes on qualifying for the Boston Marathon, as well as taking her running international to marathons in France, Chicago, Washington and running the Nike San Francisco Women’s Marathon.

“But right now, I’m taking it easy,” says Sylvie. “I will start my training in January for the Toronto Women’s Half Marathon at the end of May, and will probably follow the Running Room training schedule or may even try the Hal Higdon’s.”

In addition to her own training, Sylvie has also helped others to discover their love of running through coaching several clinics through the Running Room, including the Learn to Run clinic that was her introduction to the sport.

When asked what running means to her and how it has impacted her life, Sylvie said, “the one word that keeps coming to mind is ‘everything’. Truly everything. It saved my sanity, helped me deal with an extremely difficult part of my life. It has made me a better and stronger person with the knowledge that I can run races and do well — not compared to others, but to myself. It’s a huge boost to know that I can do what only one per cent of the population does. I’m no longer just floating through life – I’ve found my passion.”

Sylvie has also found a community – membership in a group of people who share that passion. “I can go to any city and find a running group and voila, instant acceptance,” says Sylvie. “I don’t need credentials, reputation, or anything else. I just need to be me.”

Every morning i used to the studio by rickshaw, baby taxi. I remember one day there has been a general strike in the transport  !! 

For my second trip to Dhaka, I ‘ve recorded my samples at “Tones and Tunes Studio”, a funny place located in an accommodation building and equipped with 80’s mixing desk and tape machines .

 Everybody out there was so nice and astonished to be visited by a guy coming from France and making some unusual music !

They told me that they “have never seen European people here to record !! “

Bangladeshi studios are odd places, always full of people: someone for the tea, someone for the food an other one

for opening the door …. !!  Great ambiences and kind people.

I really have had great time to record in Dhaka.

I’m lucky enough to have gone to both the Paris and London versions of the Buddha Bar.  Although the Paris version is somehow more grand (there is a certain level of snootiness that Parisiennes can do far  better than we can), but I really like the London version.  I’ve been twice, both times with girlfriends, and have had a good night out.  The decor is great and the music is fantastic (I’d forgotten how good the Buddha Bar sound is) .  The wine list is really good and the food is very nice, although not amazing.  Its Asian fusion in a sort of posh-Thai kind of way.  Sadly, I note that the toptable half price set menu offer is over as otherwise it is a bit on the pricey side, but if you’re celebrating something and want a bit of an occassion, then it would be a good choice.  Alternatively, just go upstairs for cocktails.

Worked on simple poses with strong alignment, grounding down through the feet, keeping even balance, stillness and breath-work to support an energetic practice.  The cues to ground down through the feet, big toe mounds and outer-edges of back feet really seemed to resonate/work with the students.  The breath was great today and I hope that can carry over to next week.

Low plank to updog transition is still rough and the cues I’ve been using don’t seem to be helping.  Any suggestions for different cues or ways to get students to think about alignment in the vinyasa sequence?

I visited Dhaka in Bangladesh twice . The French foreign Ministry has helped me to setup my trip. Mr Raynouart and Mr Steyer, cultural advisors for the French Embassy of Dhaka, gave me a great support as well.

As soon as i landed the first time in Dhaka, I was chocked by the poverty, pollution, huge traffic, overcrowded city.

However, day after day, moving from place to another, I found out that everybody I bumped into was smiling, warm and friendly.  To understand my impressions be free to watch “Positive Bangla”

 The 2 times I’ve recorded in Dhaka, my Friend Bari Siddiqui gave me a big help for organize the recordings sessions.

Bari is a very famous flautist and singer in the country. He is an incredible artist who has gigs all around the world and he also makes music for Bangladeshi movies. Bari helped me in selecting some of the best musicians on the place: Firuz Khan, Norul Haque, Krishna, Sonil, Rabindra Svatil Paul, Sheik Jasim and some other great musicians. You can listen to all of them through many of my tunes.

I often get friends visiting, that comes to Denmark on a smokers vacation. In the Danish smoking law, it is allowed to smoke in pubs under 40 m2. This is Denmark, so 40 m2 can be hard to define, so there are many places to hold your smokers vacation.  In this post I want to give some tip on how to be on a smokers vacation and at the same time see some of the beautiful Copenhagen I would like to show some of the variations of the Danish pubs. I am not a smoker myself, so I cannot tell anything about the smoking facilities.

The starting point is the Metrostation at Christianshavn. It is an easy place to access. You can walk along Christianshavns Canal to our first stop. Christianshavn Canal is filled of house boats and is full of life. Christianshavn is a very popular area. I guess there has been several tourists there who has smoked a “fat one”

1^st Smokers Break

Eiffel Bar - “Paris askew”

After refreshment and a cigarette, the journey goes over Knippelsbro. You can stop to look at the “Black Diamond” (National library), and the rest of the harbour that is changing fast in Copenhagen.

When you have crossed the bridge, you will pass the old Stock Echange on the left, and you can see Christiansborg and the Parliament further down on the left. We walk further and you can also pass Arne Jacobsens last signature building – the national bank – before you get too thirsty and need a pitstop.

2^nd Smokers Break

Cafe Malmø “Relics from the 7 Seas and a jungle of bottle openers”

After the thirst and the need of a smoke is quenched, the journey goes towards Kongens Nytorv.  You can choose the shortest way through the Norwegian hero Tordenskjolds fade, or a little detour through Nyhavn. I would not recommend the latter, that there is a big chance your journey will end there. When you get to Kongens Nytorv, you will find the National Theatre. To us Norwegians it is a nice gesture that the Danes are honouring us, but putting Holberg from Bergen on a statue outside.

3^rd Smokers Break

Hviids Vinstue “The Norwegian Beer Embassy”

The oldest ”vinstue” – “wineroom” in Copenhagen has to be in this. It is very cosy and has a very social smoking room – a bit on the touristy side though.

Now you can walk up the expensive part of  “Strøget”, take Pilestrædet down to get your throat moist.

4^th Smokers Break

Charlies Bar “For real English Ale”

This is a “half stop”, because it is not allowed to smoke in the summer. They want beer lovers, not only those who comes for a cigarette. If you enjoy English Beer, we recommend taking this stop. I will do the research if you can smoke when the winter comes. Maybe it is a “Winter resort”

When you have gotten your handpumped ale, you can wander further into Copenhagens small streets and alleys.

5^th Smokers Break

Bo-Bi Bar “Copenhagens first New York Bar”

After this bohemian visit, we continue down Købmagergade.

Stop and see the Round tower. Go down Krystalgade, and we are half way.

6^th Smokers Break

Cafe Halvvejen (Cafe Half Way) “A little pearl filled of treasures”

We are now in the old streets of Copenhagen where the artists and authors lived. Look after details. It is not so far to the next stop

Rosengårdens Bodega ”Idyllic Small Faceted Leaded Glas”

You might be at the point now, after all these breaks, that you need to be aired a little bit, so now you are up for a little walk. I recommend that you pass the University, Down Larsbjørnstræde and down Strøget. If you would get extremely thirsty you can buy a Beer at 7-Eleven at the end of Strøget. Sit down on the City Hall Square and enjoy the view!  This is legal in Denmark

Go on down Vesterbrogade, left on Reventlowsgade and enter good place to soothe your sore throat. They even have their own beer.

8^th Smokers Break

Jernbanecafeen ”For the train- and classic enthusiasts”

Jernbanecafeen lays just beside the infamous Istedgade on Vesterbo. The street and the area is changing. Close to the main train station, you can still find the places that made Istedgade famous in Europe in the 70ies. If you go further down, there is now hip cafees, nicely mixed in with places for smokers vacation. We will not go to these at this time, but will walk down Vesterbrogade. A higher experience is awaiting you!

Buddha Bar ”The Spiritual Watering Hole”

Vesterbro has turned into one of the more hip places to live in Copenhagen. Just like other former poor areas has seen the same transformation in other big cities. There have been big changes just in the years I have been living here. After Buddha has helped you with your thirst, you will proceed further down Vesterbrogade.

When you come to Værnedamsvej, it is a little piece of Paris. You are actually leaving Copenhagen, and enter the municipally of Frederiksberg. This little enclave has only borders to Copenhagen. Most people do not notice the any changes.

Vinstue 90 “Have a Waiting Beer”

We hope you have enjoyed this little tour. You have walked 5,9 KM and burnt off 354 KCAL – but how many you have gained – that is up to yourself. If you think this is too long, you can make local smokers vacations in areas like Vesterbro, Børrebro or City. You can find places like Funch’s Vinstue, Café Langebro, just to mention a couple. I will return with more tours later.

Jeg får ofte Nordmænd på besøg, som kommer til Danmark på rygeferie.  I den danske rygelov får man lov til at ryge på værtshuse under 40 m2. Man er jo i Danmark, og 40m2 kan være så svært at definere, så der findes mange steder at holde sin ferie.  I denne post har jeg tænkt, at give nogle tips til hvordan man både kan være på rygeferie, samtidig som man kan se noget af det vakre København.  Jeg vil også prøve at få frem noget af mangfoldet i danske værtshuse. Eller kort fortalt;  dette er den nye dødsrude.  For god ordens skyld vil jeg bare nævne, at jeg ikke ryger selv, så selve rygefaciliteterne kan jeg ikke helt udtale mig om.

Jeg vil starte ved Metrostationen på Christianshavn, da dette er et nemt sted at komme til.  Her kan du så gå langs Christianshavns kanal til vores første mål. Christianshavns kanal er fuld af husbåde og er fuldt af liv.

Christianshavn som område er også meget populært. Det er vel en eller anden Nordmand som også har været i Christiania for at ryge en ”fed”.

Efter en forfriskning og en smøg her, går færden over Knippelsbro. Du kan stoppe og se udover den Sorte Diamant (Nationalbiblioteket), og resten af havnefronten som er i hurtig forandring i København for tiden.

Når du kommer ned fra broen vil du passere den gamle Børs som ligger på venstre side, og kunne skue Christansborg med Folketinget også på venstre side. Videre vil du også passere Arne Jacobsens sidste signal byg – Nationalbanken før du er for tørstig og trænger til et pitstop.

2. Rygepause

Klassiker dedikeret til stedet ” Når en Sailor går i land”

Efter tørsten og rygetrangen er stilnet, går turen så videre mod Kongens Nytorv. Du kan enten gå den korteste vej gennem den Norske helt Tordenskjolds gade, eller en omvej gennem Nyhavn. Jeg anbefaler ikke det sidste, da det vil være nemt at blive fristet, og turen vil ende der. Når man kommer til Kongens Nytorv, vil man finde Nationalteatret. For os Nordmænd er det jo flot at danskerne hædrer os, og har sat Bergenseren Holberg på sokkel udenfor!

Jeg holdt på at udelade denne, da den er så godt kendt.  Men Københavns ældste vinstue skal med.  Det er smadder hyggelig og det findes et socialt rygerom.

Nu kan man spadsere op den dyre ende af Strøget, gå ind i Pilestrædet og fugte ganen.

Dette er et halvstop, da jeg fandt ud at det faktisk er rygeforbud om sommeren. De vil have øl elskere, ikke bare de som kommer for en smøg.  Men er du til engelsk øl, anbefaler jeg og tage stoppet. Jeg vil så undersøge om man må ryge der om vinteren, når denne kommer. Om det er et ”winter resort”

Når man så har fået en god håndpumpet ale, så kan man gå videre gennem Københavns små gader og stræder.

Efter dette lidt bohemeagtige besøg, går vi ned Købmagergade. Stop op og se det Runde tårn.

Gå så ned Krystalgade, til du kommer er du halvvejs.

Vi er nu inde i de gamle gader i København hvor Holberg og de andre boede. Se efter detaljer!  Det er ikke så langt til næste stop!

Nu har dere fået så meget ind at man trænger at luftes lidt, derfor skal vi i gang med en lille gå tur. Jeg anbefaler at man går forbi universitetet, ned studiestræde, Larsbjørnstræde, og så ned strøget.  Skulle du blive rigtig tørst, kan du jo købe en bajer på 7-eleven ved enden af strøget. Sæt dig på Rådhuspladsen og nyd synet! Det er fuldt lovlig i Danmark!

Gå videre over ned af Vesterbogade, og ned Reventelowsgade til et godt sted at slukke tørsten. De har til og med sin egen øl.

JernbanceCafeen ligger jo ved Istedgade på Vesterbro. Gaden og området er i færd med at forandre sig. Nederst mod hovedbanegården kan man fortsat finde de udagerende steder som Istedgadade florerte med i 70erne. Går man længer ned ligger det nu hippe cafeer, flot sammen med rygersteder. Men vi går ikke til disse, men går ud til Vestebrogade og ned ad den. Det venter dig en højere oplevelse

Vesterbro er nu et af de hippere steder at bo I København.  Lidt slik som Grünerløkka har blevet det i Oslo og man kan se det samme i alle storbyer. Arbejderstrøg har blevet transformeret. Jeg kan se store forandringer bare på de år jeg har boet her.  Efter Buddha har hjulpet dig med tørsten, skal vi nu videre ned Vesterbrogade.

Når du kommer til Værnedamsvej, finder du et lille stykke Paris i gadebildet. Du forlader også København, og entrer Frederiksberg Kommune. Denne enklave som kun grænser op mod København.  Der er lidt billigere ejendomsskat, men ellers er det ingen som mærker noget i det daglige liv.

Can you get a spiritual pub. On Vesterbro Torv they are trying. They have 4 Buddha figures, an owner that is a Buddhist and the closest neighbor is Elias Church. It is a little spiritual to enjoy a cold beer isn’t it?

In my view, the old Name Vester Kro is a better name. Buddha Bar makes you think about other cafes around Europe with a totally different style than this.

The pub is relatively small, with a bar that is quite large. There is the 70ies kitch wallpaper on the walls and the bar. Well worn, and is falling of the bar some places. There are benches along the walls and mirrors above the benches. The lamps are nice.

The service is very good, and the atmosphere is good. You can sit outside in the summer. But it is strange that it costs more here than on the other cafeterias on the square.

Kan man få en åndelig bodega? På Vesterbro Torv prøver man. Den har fire Buddha figurer, og en ejer som er buddhist og man ligger ved siden af Eliaskirken.  Er det ikke lidt åndelig over at nyde en kold fadøl?

Jeg synes i øvrigt det gamle navn Vester Kro er et bedre navn. Buddha Bar får dig til at tænke på nogle andre etablissementer rundt i Europa, med en helt anden stil end denne.

Det er et rimelig lille lokale, med en bar som fylder meget af lokalet.  Der er 70er kitch tapet på væggene og på baren. Lidt slidt, og den falder af baren nogle steder. Der er bænke langs væggene og spejle over bænkene. Der er flotte lamper i loftet.

Betjeningen er meget sød. Der er en god stemning. Man kan også sidde ude om sommeren. Men at det skal koste mere for øl her, en de andre cafeterier på torvet er lidt mærkeligt.

”Chil On Air” este un album de execeptie chiar daca este relativ vechi, avand in vedere ca a fost produs in 2005 si a fost lansat in 2006. ”Chill on Air” imbina ritmurile de Lounge si Chillout, garnisite cu influente de jazz. Compilatia a fost realizata in Canada si cuprinde piese prelucrate de peste 20 de artisti ai acestui gen de muzica. Deasemenea pe acest album poti descoperii si frumusetea muzicii latino-americane si cateva acorduri din indepartata asie.

Putina aroma a unor acorduri fine ”trance” face ca ascultatorul sa fie placut impresionat. A inregistrat vanzari record in Canada, Japonia, China si a fost destul de cautat si in Europa.

Albumul poate fi gasit pe ”torrent” sau dc sub denumirea de ”VA-Chill on Air”

Lansat in anul 2005 ”Cafe Buddha- The Cream Of Lounge Cuisine” reuneste instrumentisti din toata lumea iar rezultatul este un album exceptional ce da o buna dispozitie atunci cand este ascultat.

Pe acest album se creeaza o armonie a ritmurilor latine combinate cu acorduri fine de jazz. Un album relaxant dupa o zi petrecuta la birou sau in traficul infernal al unei metropole.

Numele ”Cafe Buddha- The Cream Of Lounge Cuisine” este dat de un renumit restaurant in care unele piese erau interpretate live in timpul cinei sau a diferitelor momente ale zilei. Noi mai avem mult pana sa ajungem sa facem din fiecare moment al zilei o bucurie asa ca traiasca pirateria. Nu de alta dar in Romania nu gasesti niciunde acest gen de muzica.

Destul de scump ca pret, albumul a reusit vanzari de cateva milioane de euro in intreaga lume. A se intelege ca anumite genuri de muzica nu sunt create pentru a fi neaparat comercializate. Dar pentru relaxare sunt la superlativ.
