Since being the 1998 US Junior National Downhill Mountain Bike Champion, Melissa Buhl has been riding bikes fast and winning races in both downhill and 4x. She was the 2008 4x World Champ, and is off to Australia this week to compete in both disciplines yet again. Martha Hucker caught up with her for a quick Q&A before she left the U.S.

Hey Melissa! Only two more big races left for 2009… how’s the season been for you?
It’s been a really busy season doing all the races and both events. Some are better than others:) But overall it’s been ok. I would liked to have done better this year in the DH, but those Frenchies have been pretty tough:) Hopefully I can go out with a bang in Canberra. It will be my last race of the season as I started Fall semester this week.

How did you get into racing mountain bikes, and did you always think you’d get this far in the sport?
I started racing BMX and my Mom, who owed a bar and restaurant at the time, had customers come in that welded mountain bikes. She would always brag about my BMX racing as a proud Mom does. They suggested me to try mountain bikes. The man was Frank “the Welder” Wadelton who built bikes for many companies and racers over the years. He lent me his kids Yeti to do some local XC racing, and then later built me a bike.
Our local XC series was sponsored by Cannondale and one of the reps got me hooked up with Missy Giovie’s Team Amazon. It was a womens pro developmental program that Missy put together to help women in DH. From there I got into DH racing.
No I never thought that as a little kid I would be doing it as an adult, as a career, traveling to cool places and racing every weekend!

Congrats on winning the US National Champs (results are here). How did your race go?
The race was a close one between KP (Kathy Pruitt) and I. It has been like that for years between us.

There was a bit of drama there about some very big jumps in the course. Can you tell us what went on?
The jumps were a new challenge for a lot of the racers. The first day of practice not everyone was hitting them and it was windy. So I guess there was a discusion at the first meeting, I wasn’t at the first meeting, but I guess the officials were going to close the jumps if it got too windy and put go arounds in.
The weather was fine and all turned out fine they kept them open, but put go arounds in so people could progress through each of them and pull out if a mistake was made.
I think most of the drama was not really the jumps, but the 4-X gate which got changed last minute from a drop off to the alternate gate which was similar to a typical UCI straight. The decision was based on the fact that it was a selection for worlds race, and the officials thought that the course should be as close to Worlds starts as possible. Which makes sense, but the course builders were really disappointed after all the hard work they put in.

You’re riding for KHS. How long have you been riding for them, and what bikes/setups are you on?
I have been riding for KHS since 2001. They have been a great sponsor. I race my DH-200 in DH and mostly my hardtail DJ 300 for 4-X, but sometimes I will race my full suspension (XC Team) depending on the course.

What’s the best and worst things about being a pro mountain biker?
There are a lot of great things. The best is to do what you love the most in the world while getting paid. You get to travel to so many great places and some of my best friends I have met, I have met through mountain biking. Mountain biking trains you for life. The adversity you face while racing, makes it seem like you can hadle anything:)
The worst thing….maybe the pain from crashing, but that happens. I guess being away from my boyfriend and doggies all summer make it tough sometimes, but it’s all part of the job.

Click to watch the 4x and an interview with Melissa Buhl from Thomas Paatz, IBC

There seem to be a lot of women gravity riders in the US, but the race numbers are as low as many smaller countries. What do you think could get more women to take part in events?
Women’s racing in the US has dropped off a bit. Not form lack of talent by any means, just the depth in entries at the events. I think a lot of it is b/c it is so costly for them and there is lack of support. Some of the race promoters don’t give enough incentive for pro racers to make the trip. We are racing for free or next to nothing at a lot of the events, and that’s unacceptable for any pro. There are so many talented riders here, but you’ll find them doing other events and other types of riding and racing they enjoy more. I hope we can get a consistent series going that offers that kind of enjoyment in racing again and bring tham back.

Are you looking forward to racing in Canberra?
YES! I have never been to Australia before and I am really looking forward to it.

Anyone you’d like to thank?
I would like to thank my boyfriend Dave, my family, my sponsors KHS Bicycles, Adiddas, Azonic, Kenda, Manitou, Hayes, Sunringle, Gamut, and ODI.

Cheers Melissa, and good luck in Canberra!

In southcentral Idaho, contained by the larger ‘Magic Valley’, is the Hagerman Valley, a truly special place in many ways. Often called the Banana Belt of Idaho for its mild winter climate, it has much to offer as a vacation or home site. As a vacation site, it has a number of opportunities for outdoor activities and is close enough to the city of Twin Falls and the Nevada Resort town of Jackpot to satisfy many tastes. One of the nicest homes in the valley is an exceptional 3BR, 2BA, 3GAR single level home on 3.19 irrigated acres, which backs up to Salmon Falls Creek. It is laid out for easy living, immaculately maintained, and has both privacy and access to all Idaho has to offer. For information on this and other homes, contact me at franksells@cableone.net

The Following was given to me by Rick Martin from the Free Will Baptist Church in Buhl, Idaho. It is a History of their church. You will find in it the names of a few Oklahoma FWB preacher’s who were instrumental in the founding of the church.

Such as Jake Gage, Virgil Florence, Wade Jernigan & Joe Grizzel. Also mentions Greenbrier FWB Church in Adair,OK. It may have been the same time that Jake Gage’s son, Howard Gage, was pastoring Greenbrier.

Reverend Jake Gage

NOTE:

Reverend Howard Gage

Howard, who was also a missionary, had said that Virgil Florence and Jake went to Buhl, Idaho for a revival. A farmer in the area heard an Arkansas preacher was coming , so he came to the revival and got saved, then he started preaching. At one point his son, Roy Thomas became Director of the National Home Mission Department for Free Will Baptist, he also became a preacher. This farmer Thomas had other son’s surrender to preach as well as grandsons.

Below is the History of those revivals from the Buhl FWB Church:

IDAHO HISTORY OF FREE WILL BAPTISTS

At the time that the Free Will Baptist work in Idaho got started in 1951, there were no Free Will Baptist Churches between Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and California. It would not take long before several Free Will Baptist Churches would fill this void. The first church established in this void was the Free Will Baptist Church in Buhl, Idaho. To try to establish a definite time when God began to first move in Idaho would be difficult.

One would have to consider that years before, during hard times, families had been up-rooted and moved to Idaho from such states as: Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. These families for the most part had no church affiliation, and would be considered a mission field. This was not only true for Idaho, but almost all of the mission work established in the West came about because of displaced families placed there in advance by God. They were just waiting for the hand of God to bring His Word through the willing pioneer preachers who would establish Churches.

It is easy to see the miracle working hand of God in establishing the Idaho work. For example; we have Jake Gage from Kingston, Arkansas, now Pastoring in Pryor, Oklahoma and we have a group of un-churched families from Arkansas that needed to hear the Gospel. How God brought this together is best described by Owen Bennett, who was only twelve years old at the time. The following is his description of what happened.

…IN THE BEGINNING… BUHL FREE WILL BAPTIST CHURCH

It was Springtime 1951, and there was an old fashion revival going on in the very small town of Filer, Idaho. A Pastor by the name of Jake Gage from Kingston, Arkansas, had come to the area to visit some friends. At this time, Brother Jake was pastor of a Church in Pryor, Oklahoma. His host and friends were some of the faithful at The United Baptist Church in Filer, Idaho. Brother Jake was invited to speak and ended up preaching a two week revival. The building was quite small, and filled to overflowing every night. People were there from Castleford, Buhl, Jerome, and Twin Falls to hear the fiery preacher from Pryor, Oklahoma. Brother Jake Gage boldly delivered God’s word for an hour or better, seasoned with verse upon verse of memorized scripture. Brother Gage anticipated a brief visit to Idaho, but God had something else in His plan.

The Gordon Bennett family was invited to come and hear the exciting Brother Jake. We went with my mother’s parents, Archie and Effie Owen. Gordon and Martha Bennett thought that was the best preaching they had ever heard. Martha said, “He wasn’t polished, but he didn’t stutter either.” She explained, “He just spoke plain truth.” People were becoming radically saved as they sang those Southern Gospel Songs from their limp-back “Stamp Baxter’ type song books.

I am the oldest son of Gordon and Martha Bennett and I was twelve years old at the time of the first revival Brother Jake preached. I can still remember how they loved to sing “/ Feel Like Traveling On\” As the meetings came to a close, there were quite a few saints interested in “traveling on.” Rue, Mary, and Pauline Thomas, Ada Wright and Wilma Brawley, just to name a few.

After the revival, for the regular church services, we met at the United Baptist Church. There were four doing the preaching. Brother Charles Matthews, Brother Logan Yingst, Brother Ernst Hayhurst, and Brother Loren Blades. There were two Sunday School Classes for children, but only one room, class met in the same room as the adult class, which was in the back of the room.

There was an invitation for Brother Jake to come back and he brought with him, Brother Virgil Florence, his wife Mae, and youngest son Carol Wayne. Brother Florence and Brother Jake took turns preaching Wayne, only thirteen years old, played the piano for the meetings.

Brother Jake and Brother Florence spoke at Deep Creek School, west of Buhl for two weeks. Several of my siblings; Herschel, Laura and Nadine, were saved in the meetings. On night the lights went out while Carrol Wayne was playing the piano for song service. The congregation just kept on singing and Carol never missed a lick, just as though nothing had happened. I was very impressed by Carol. Then for two weeks, we moved to the building used for the movie theater in Castleford. From Castleford, were moved to the United Baptist Church in Filer for one week. My Father, Gordon Bennett, farmed and we only missed one night of the five weeks of meetings, because the cows got out. Perhaps the demons got tired of the pigs and got into our cows!

The revival blessed and encouraged many. A number of people came forward to be saved and were ready to follow the Lord’s example in believer’s baptism. Two separate baptismal services were held over the five week period of the revival. In Deep Creek, we used the canal just east of Castleford as the baptistery. Some of my siblings were baptized along with others, like Bob and Ron Thomas, and Bob Cornie. In Castleford, the First Baptist Church was gracious to lend us their building equipped with a baptismal. We packed the building that Sunday afternoon.

Some of the people who attended the revival expressed interest in establishing a Free Will Baptist Church in Idaho. Brother Florence accepted the call, and Gordon Bennett and Rue Thomas went to Oklahoma in Rue Thomas’ green Studebaker farm truck. They moved the Florence family to Buhl, Idaho. Rosa Lee Florence, their only daughter, was finished with High School when they moved. Rue Thomas, feeling she might be lonely in a new area, told his son, Bob, to befriend Rosa Lee. They were the first couple married in the Buhl Free Will Baptist Church in November 1952.

This would be the First Free Will Baptist Church in the Northwest. The only money received from Home Mission was $50.00, and we did not have any wealthy backers to underwrite the cost of building a church at the time. Property was purchased that had just been surveyed and divided for sale. The property was two and one half lots of pasture with the fence still around it. I believe the land was around $740.00. Rue Thomas, Gordon Bennett, Logan and Freeman Yingst were among the founding committee. Bee Webb loaned the fledging church $1000.00, $300.00 from other donors was added to it and they got right in with diggin’ the basement. The easy diggin’ came to a halt when they ran into black hard rock. It was like a shelf of rock ran

every inch of the basement site. So they blasted to level the rock shelf and poured the foundation. My dad used a small Formal Tractor with a loader to haul the “blasted rock” up out of the hole. They did not get a deep as they wanted, but the foundation of the Buhl Free Will Baptist Church has been built on the Solid Rock. The windows of the basement were almost completely above ground. While the construction was going on, we met in the Deep Creek School that was a few miles west of Buhl, until the first part of December 1951.

Now we had the land, so we blasted, scooped, shoveled, and prayed. Now we needed lumber to get this infant Church off the ground. Then as God had planned, Ray Barsness and Luke Parnell, two fellows who did not even attend our Church helped us. The two of them were trying to start a lumberyard with one problem, no yard. So Ray and Luke bought bunks of lumber and unloaded them on the Church property with only a promise to pay. God Is Good!

Brothers’ Virgil Florence, Logan Yingst, Freeman Yingst, Rue Thomas, and Dad did most of the work on what became a basement church. They put a center partition in the cinder block walls and cement floor. The partition was six inches higher than flat and the rafters were 2xlO’s or 2xl2’s that would become the floor joist when the upper part was added. Then sheeting for the roof that was a tar and tar paper roof. It was the east half they used for preaching service and had two or three classes and bathrooms in the other half.

Brother Florence was a humble, giving, Godly man with a real love to see people come to the Lord. He also had musical talent and was (of all things) a carpenter by trade. Brother Florence was a “tentmaker minister” for sure! Brother Florence came without any promise of salary, so I can remember there would be questions asked like who would pay the coal, rent, and electric bills for the Florence family. The first house they lived in was small, so small in fact, the living room had to double as a bedroom and the rent was $25.00 per month.

The first Sunday of December 1951, only two months from the time that Brother Florence and his family arrived in Buhl, Idaho, these hard working dedicated people had constructed enough of a building to hold their first Church service. Roy Thomas was home on a month long furlough from the

Air Force visiting his family. Roy was the first person saved in the new basement church. Before Roy left to return to the Air Force, he was baptized on January 2,1952, in the icy waters of Deep Creek. I was thirteen years old and Roy had just been saved, but was going back into the service. I didn’t know how he would be able to grow in this kind of environment and be so far from home. I prayed earnestly for Roy that year.

It had not been quite ten months since the visiting preacher from Oklahoma-Arkansas, ended up preaching the revival that would bring Brother Florence and Brother Jake for a second revival in July and August. From the time the second revival came to and end and the new church was having its first meeting in the new basement was about two and one half months. Praise The Lord!

One of the faith lesson of this episode is God has and is preparing each of His believers for His work, small or great, and as we are obedient in doing for Him. God blessed our efforts and worked far beyond our realizations and it will only be in heaven when we get a glimpse of the “down-wind” effect of what is accomplished for the Kingdom of God. There have been a lot of accomplishments in Fifty years: Six churches in the State of Idaho and a Camp Program. If the church in Buhl had not been planted, there is a good chance that none of the other five churches would be here today.

Brother Owen’s account, sure established the fact that those were exciting days for Free Will Baptist in Idaho. In the history of the work in Idaho, there were many of these exiciting times from the very beginning. The church was set in order Sunday night, November 4, 1951 at Deep Creek School House….

The meeting started at 9:00 PM. The Organizational Council consisted of:

Virgil Florence – Chairman

Logan Yingst -Moderator

Rosa Lee Florence – Clerk

Ernest Hayhurst – Minister

Freeman Yingst – Deacon

There were seventeen charter members:

The Florence Family; Virgil, Mae, Rosa Lee, and Carroll Wayne

The Thomas Family; Rue, Mary, and Bob

The Webb Family; Bee and Mary

The Bennett Family; Gordon and Martha

The Yingst Family; Logan and Flora

Addie Wright
Bob Cornie

The Yingst Family: Freeman and Goldie

The church elected Virgil Florence as Moderator, and Martha Bennett as Clerk. On November 12, 1951, five more joined the church; Owen, Laura, Herschel, and Nadine Bennett. Then Ronnie Thomas made the fifth.

As Owen Bennett stated in his account, the church bought property, dug a basement, and held service in the basement until the building was finished in 1956. Rue Thomas and Gordon Bennett were ordained as deacons in a “special service”, on May 4, 1952 with Virgil Florence officiating. The first recorded communion and feet washing was June 22,1952. The first revival was held by Bill Ketchum for two weeks evidently the last of August and the first of September 1952. He was given $211.04. Bob Thomas and Owen Bennett were the first ushers elected at the first anniversary, November 1,

1952. Building expenses for the first year totaled $2,627.02. January 4,

1953, the first visitation committee consisting of Logan Yingst, Ernest
Hayhurst, and Gordon Bennett was elected.

In September 5, 1953, the church bought a building from the Assembly of God Church in Buhl, Idaho for $900.00. They paid to have it moved to its present location and it became the church parsonage. Jason Bennett had loaned the church $1200.00. He wrote off $200.00 and on June 2, 1954, they voted to pay him $20.00 a month and he charged no interest. The first insurance for the parsonage was for $4000.00 for three years, the premiums were three payment of $12.16 with a $4.00 refund if no claim was reported.

October 2, 1954, a Men’s Brotherhood was established and would meet the first Tuesday of each month.

Earnest Hayhurst had started a church in Jerome, Idaho, in a rented commercial building – some remembered it had a log front and 1×4 fiat pews. On January 1, 1955, Maryfeonnie Thomas were given letters to the Jerome church. Sister Conde was the Jerome Clerk. The Jerome and Buhl churches in fellowship with each other and were participating in a Fifth Sunday Fellowship that continued for awhile.

Roy Thomas had started a church in Artesia, New Mexico and on February 5, 1955, Brother Florence was in Revival with Roy in Artesia. September 4, 1955, Pauline Thomas Richardson was given a letter to the Artesia church. There was some discussion on what to do when Brother Florence would be gone from time to time. They decided to pay visiting or fill-in Preachers $4.00 a service.

The church through out its history would be concerned with the needs of the people in the community.. A good example occurred June 4, 1955, when David Smith had a tractor accident and his foot was amputated. The church was much in prayer for him, and helped him with groceries and money, etc. This would not be the only time the church did this kind of thing.

Booker Harvison was elected as Assistant Usher in June 1955. He was to be a faithful man of God. At the time of this death, he was faithfully serving the Rupert Church as Deacon.

The church would receive help through out its history from churches in Oklahoma and Arkansas. The Greenbrier Church in Oklahoma, was given of “letter of thanks” on February 4, 1956 for their help. On February 16, 1956, plans were presented and okayed for finishing the church building.

Rosa Lee Florence Thomas had been elected Clerk in December 1956, and on February 2, 1957, she resigned as she and her husband Bob were moving to California. On August 3, 1957, the were given a letter to the Paramount Free Will Baptist Church in California.

Otho Brown, Fred Smith, and Booker Harvison were ordained as Deacons on August 4, 1957. Brother Florence brought the message and the charge. They had been on trail since November 3, 1956.

There were many revivals through the churches history for many years they had two revivals a year, lasting two week each. There were too many Evangelists who came to begin to list them all. But, one exceptional revival was held November 18, 1957, with Wade Jernigan. It was a ten day revival, with eighteen conversions and rededication’s and eighteen joined the church during the revival. Eleven joined on the night of the 24th and seven joined on the last night of the revival the 28th.

The Youth has always been important to the church. On November 30, 1957, a Youth League was started. Owen Bennett would be involved with the Youth Group for several years.

The first member to pass away was Eva Mitchell on January 27, 1958. The church was deeply affected. Another sad event for the church occurred in 1958, when brother Florence resigned as Pastor on May 4, effective date would be July 6,1958.

July 30, 1958, Harvey Butler was voted in as Pastor. In those days the practice was for a Minister not to be ordained until he was Pastoring a church. Harvery Butler’s ordination was held November 27, 1958, with Wade Jernigan officating.

One of the on going problems, has been the church parking lot. The church property is located close to what is now referred to as the “truck by-pass” on the West side of town. In recent times, the church has had problems with trucks, RV’s (some even hook-up to the churches water and electricity without asking), and neighbors using the parking lot. It has become a drive-through for the alley, and a parking lot for the neighbors parties. This certainly has interfered with “special church” services. This is not a new problem however, on August 31, 1960, Pastor Harvey Butler brought before the church the need to do something about it. The community (mostly teenagers) was using the parking lot during church services for, and I quote, “parking, courting, and playing.” In forty years, the only thing changed is that too many people live around the church for them to use the parking lot for “courting.”

Roy Thomas communicated with the church March 29, 1962, about the new work in Colorado. He and his brother Bob would maintain close ties to the church until the present date.

September 27, 1961, the church reported a membership of seventy-four. On the 1Oth Anniversary of the church, November 1, 1961, Harvey Butler resigned. The purpose seemed to be as desire to start a work in Wendell, Idaho. Rudy Johnson had been present at the church for awhile, and either Harvey or Rudy was going to Wendell. It seems that Harvery went, and Rudy was elected as Pastor the same night that Harvey resigned.

The mortgage with John Barker was paid off and recorded on May 7, 1962. In May of that year, Rudy Johnson resigned and Harvey Butler was again the Pastor. The change would take place August 1, 1962. With the mortgage paid off, a celebration was held, May 20, 1962. After the regular service, there’was fellowship in the basement and at 2:00 PM the dedication service was held. Logan Yingst and Harvey Butler spoke and Gordon Bennett gave the church history. Founding Pastor Virgil Florence preached the dedication message and delivered the charge. June 13,1962, it was confirmed that the transition between Rudy Johnson and Harvey Butler would take place. Harvery was re-elected as Pastor for the record.

Another historic event for Idaho happened on March 20, 1963, when the church voted to join with Rupert to form an Association. This happened July 9,1963 at the Rupert Free Will Baptist Church. Wade Jernigan was to come and help organize the Association. The church delegates were Brother Yingst, Gordon Bennett, Owen Bennett and Booker Harvison. The rest of this is recorded in the following history of the Association.

The years 1964 through 1966, brought some more historic events and some unusual ones. The record shows on April 15, 1964, that the church was without a Pastor. The church voted to call Wade Jernigan as Pastor. Wade did not accept the call, but offered to come August 16, 1964, and stay until the church found a Pastor. Harvey Butler was called for the third time as Pastor, August 21, 1964.

January 20, 1965, Buhl’s loss became Rupert’s gain as Booker Harvison was granted a letter to move to the Rupert church. Jack Johnson and Owen Bennett were put on trial as Deacons and Martha Bennett resigned as Clerk and Treasurer.

Joe Grizzel, from Oklahoma, had come to Wendell to establish a Free Will Baptist Church and Gordon and Martha Bennett were going to help him. March 31,1965, Mary Johnson was elected Clerk and Otho Brown was Treasurer. November 10, 1965, is the first mention of the Twin Falls Free Will Baptist Church in the Buhl minutes. Owen Bennett was to be ordained November 14,1965, at the Twin Falls church at 3:00 PM. According to the Associational Minutes, Jack Johnson was also to be ordained in this service. December 1, 1965, a Mission offering was sent to the Twin Falls church and on February 2, 1966, ten moved their membership to the Twin Falls church. Nine were Johnson’s and the tenth was Wilma Elam.

March 23, 1966, the baptistery was almost completed. The church voted to install lights and drapes. The Summer of 1966, the church had an unique opportunity, a young man by the name Carl Hinz, came and used the church for Pastoral training experience. Brother Butler allowed him to Pastor for the Summer. Brother Buder was wanting to resigned, but agreed to stay until a new Pastor could be found.

By the end of 1966, Gordon and Martha Bennett and Owen and JoAnn Bennett had moved to the Twin Falls church.

The church called Junior Ussery as Pastor on February 12, 1967. The Ussery family; Junior, Velma, Wanda, Wilma and Wendell moved to Buhl from Marshall, Missouri, leaving one son, Wayne behind. Soon after their arrival, Jack Johnson was sent to the Association to be licensed as a Minister. Brother Junior was to serve the church in times of need through out its history, even to the present. He resigned October 13,1968 as Pastor.

Jack Johnson was elected as the next Pastor on November 13,1968. The Sunday School average for October – November and December of 1969, was twenty-three. June 2, 1971, during the election of officers, Orval Brown was elected the adult Sunday School teacher. Brother Orval and his wife, Jewell brought their grandchildren to church, some of whom were saved at the Buhl church. Brother Orval taught the Adult Class off and on until his death in September 1998.

The church stopped having yearly Pastoral elections and went to a bi-annual in June 1972, and finally for an indefinite time period in July 1973. It was May 1973, that Jack Johnson resigned.

Preachers that filled the pulpit were:

Everet Hopkins

Ernest Hayhurst

Logan Yingst

Harvey Butler

They filled in until October 24,1973, when Bill Johnson was elected Pastor. A bus was rented to start a Bus Ministry in April 1974, and was soon followed by a van. May 1, 1974, Bill Johnson praised the church for the increase in attendance and offerings for the month of April. The church voted in Jack Stephenson as Assistant Pastor, August 21,1974. Jack was then called to the Jerome Free Will Baptist Church as Pastor, March 1975.

There is a report in 1975, that the church had sixty-three members. Sunday School enrollment was sixty-five with an average of sixty-seven. Bill Johnson resigned January 25, 1976, with an effective date of March 1, 1976.

March 10, 1976, Garry Terrell was voted in as Pastor. It would be a few months before they actually moved to Buhl. August 4,1976, the Terrell’s joined the church; Gary, Sharon, Vicki and Tony. There was a need for class room space and the church voted to install permanent partitions in the basement creating seven class rooms.

The church was growing and as a result, October 6, 1976, the church installed an Advisory Board to handle new business. The October average for attendance was seventy-one and November’s was fifty-five. August 31, 1977, former Pastor Junior Ussery, his wife Velma and son Wendell joined the church. Several years later Wendell Ussery and Vicki Terrell would be married. They are still with us at the present. Vicki plays the piano and Wendell leads the choruses, is the sound man and serves on the Financial Board. Their children are: Joshua, Jessica and Caleb.

August 1978, the church voted to put white aluminum siding with brown trim on the building. There was to be a rock face from the ground up to the top of the old siding. If you drove by the church today, that is exactly what you would see with the addition of brown metal roofing. The church recently also added a wheel chair ramp, more sidewalks, and steel doors on the front.

September 16, 1979, the minutes of the church mentions a Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Pocatello. September would also end Gary Terrell’s tenure as Pastor.

October 17, 1979, The church called Lavelle Reeves as Pastor. He Pastored the church until late July or early August 1981. Until the next Pastor was elected, Gordon Bennett, Ernest Hayhurst and mainly Junior Ussery filled the pulpit.

June 14, 1982, Delmar Hopkins was voted in as Pastor. In July, Delmar, his wife Shirley and daughter Mellody were received in the church. September 22,1982, the church with-drew from the Free Will Baptist Association. Delmar resigned April of 1983. Gordon Bennett, Ernest Hayhurst, Junior

Ussery again filled the pulpit with Jack Johnson, who did most of the preaching until Lee Roy Walker came as Pastor on April 15,1987.

It is a little difficult to piece the church history together from November 7, 1979, until 1991. The church either did not have a regular business meeting or the Minutes have been lost. These years were filled in by memories of those affiliated with the church.

Lee Roy Walker and his wife Laura, Pastored the church until late Fall or early Winter possibly in November 1988. The church closed for the Winter of 1988. Brother Walker came back out in the Spring of 1989. He preached Goldie Yingst’s funeral in July of 1989 and left shortly after that.

Brother Ussery again filled the pulpit for the church from 1989 – March of 1992. On June 27,1990, the church was back in the Association. Larry and Wanda Ussery Bird moved to Buhl from Missouri. The parsonage was being remodeled. Disaster struck February 4,1992, when the city’s sewer backed up. Almost everything was a loss in the basement. The city refused the liability. It took a while to repair and replace everything. The insurance would not cover anything either.

June 28, 1992, James Edwards from Arkansas, was called to Pastor the church. James and his wife Mary Lou arrived sometime in late July or early August. It did not take him long to get to work. On September 1992, the remodeling of the church was underway. Churches in Arkansas donated the carpet and Harvey Butler laid it on April 19,1993.. Brother James did a lot of work on the church and his handiwork is still evident today. January 8, 1995, Brother Edwards resigned. His last service was February 1, 1995.

The church brought Earl Jenkins from Artesia, New Mexico out for a few services to candidate in early February 1995. The church called him to Pastor February 26,1995. He is the current Pastor.

The Jenkins family; Earl, Wife Brenda, Steven, Brent and Jaccette arrived Memorial Day weekend. They arrived in time for Sunday School and church, but Brother Ussery held the service to give the Jenkins family a chance to catch their breath.

The whole Jenkins family joined the church June 11, 1995, as well as Vicki Terrell Ussery, which was a pleasant surprise for the church. The church had been running around fifteen and during the last five years, growth has been up and down. 1997, saw the church begin to steady growth that continues to date. Loresa Cox, Elsie Hamilton, Larry and his wife Pam Gore joined the church in 1997. Larry and Pam help with Sunday School and work with the Youth Group. Just recently Larry just came back from a Teen Fishing trip. No fish, but nine teenagers and Larry had a great time.

Six more folks joined the church in 1998. Among those were; Luther Brown and Wendell Ussery. Luther had been coming for about a year and what a blessing he is to all of us. Wendell was another blessing a pleasant surprise for the church.

Kid’s Bible Club started in late Spring of 1999 by Sister Brenda. What a wonderful ministry that has been. The church bought a van in June 1999 just to haul all those kids. “Praise the Lord!”

1999, brought some changes to the church building, a new metal roof and gables in May. June saw a wheel chair ramp installed just in time for the Jones Family Singers to come from Hartville, Missouri and bless us with their Ministry in music and testimony. We had ninety-five the evening for the concert. In October, we had a concert with Liberty Quartet from Boise and had one hundred-thirty in attendance. The church was packed. We baptized fourteen from June to August 1999.

Scott and his wife Jo’n Laird joined the church on August 29, 1999, and they have been great help. Brother Scott was an ordained Pastor/Minister with Church of God Anderson, but after studying Free Will Baptist Doctrine and History, (J. Matthew Pinson’s book, A Free Will Baptist Handbook, was a great help), Scott easily accepted Free Will Baptist beliefs, even feet washing! They lead the Joy Group and the New Beginnings Fellowships and Bible Studies.

The church average for July through December 1999 was forty-eight. The year 2000 has been exciting so far. A new sound system has been bought. The number of baptisms since June 1999, has gone to nineteen with several waiting to be baptized. We have had twenty-seven saved since June 1999.

The current church average is fifty-two. Jo’n Laird directed a play over Palm Sunday week that saw one hundred-twenty pack the church for Palm Sunday. Brother Junior Ussery has been a real blessing and a great help for the church.

Brother Freeman Yingst, the only one left from that beginning in 1951, is still faithful to the church and Christ. Since the baptisms and salvations, and church growth, Brother Freeman has been shedding a lot of tears of joy. We hope there are a lot of tears of joy to come!

Some of the church ministries are:

Sunday School

Bus Ministry

Women’ s Auxiliary

Mission (two Home Missionaries and one Foreign)

Youth Groups

Kid’s Club and King Kids Choir

Drama

New Beginnings (outreach for new believers and Bible Study)

Joy Group (Just Older Youth Senior Ministry)

Finanzamt 2009 erledigt!!!

Wohlbefinden: sehr gut

This Barbie now comes with a stroller and 2 infant dolls. Optional accessories include a GED and bus pass. White boy Gangsta Ken and his 1979 Caddy were available, but are now very difficult to find since the addition of the infant.

She’s perfect in every way, mainly due to the high levels of antidepressants in her system. We don’t know where Ken is because he’s always at church meetings.

We just setup a Bite Size display in our very first gift shop — the Lynwood Gift Barn! Located at The Lynwood Shopping Center in Twin Falls, ID. The Gift Barn is well-known for having items for sale that you can’t get anywhere else in the area. Unique gifts, collectibles, and jewelry. Evy Rollins, the owner, was eager to add our one-of-a-kind pendants and necklaces to her inventory of other unique gifts. We hope having a display in her boutique will help all the shoppers in the area who don’t have internet access, or need a special gift right away.

View of Evy Rollins storefront

To keep things interesting, we also added pendants to the Gift Barn inventory that you won’t find online. This way shoppers can find something special and unique both on and off-line. This allows gift shop owners to provide products that are exclusive to their area, while also being able to refer customers to our online shop if they don’t find what they need at the shop that day. It’s a win-win for everyone!

We’ll be setting up a display in Evy Rollin’s second shop in Buhl, Idaho very soon as well. We’re looking for retail outlets in other areas that would be interested in selling our very unique jewelry. If you, or someone you know, would be interested please contact Jed or Brandy Steen at info@bitesizejewelry.com

Our wholesale pricing and minimums are low so even small boutiques can carry The Bite Size line of jewelry. Like the Gift Barn, we’ll also provide your shop with unique items that can’t be found online. We’ll post more info about wholesale ordering on the main site and this blog as soon as we can.

It looks like things are off to a good start so far! Now only 6 days to go!!

One of the three women qualified in the 92nd Inidianapolis 500 is Milka Duno together with Danica Pa

One of the three women qualified in the 92nd Inidianapolis 500 is Milka Duno together with Danica Patrick and Sarah Fisher. Admittedly, racers are unnoticed once they are on track but last year’s Indianapolis 500, Milka Duno had the chance to get attention from people for being herself as Mila Duno. She said that she never expect to have so many fans since she was only new in the Indy 500 but it was a great surprise for her.

With the fans following Milka everywhere, she truly fascinates everyone. Some hung around the fence by her pit just to draw Milka’s attention and some keep on waiting outside her garage to see her Venezuelan beauty.

Milka has gained more and more respect in the industry. She wasn’t just a beauty trying to take some laps in the world’s most famous race. She wanted however to return to open wheel racing, where she had been competing in Europe.

Milka is presently with Dreyer and Reinbold Racing. She has an 11-race schedule. Buddy Rice, a former Indy500 champion is her teammate. Milka said that she have an advantage now because her team has wide information about the cars. Likewise the racing experience of her team co-owner Robbie Buhl, who is her driver coach, is another great advantage for her and her team. Since the start of their team up, they have a good communication, which is truly important in any partnership. Milka had pointed out that not everybody knows how to transmit information effectively but Buhl definitely knows how and that’s what Milka needs, she admitted.

Milka, like all the qualified racers for this season, greatly hopes to win. She wants to join Danica in the Victory lane. It would be interesting for Danica to win but if she wins, it would be more interesting for her.

->18 Je me retrouve seul.
