Gated Check In Build Fails - File Locked

Working with gated check-ins can save you time by verifying your changes before committing them to the repository. This is great in terms of keeping your code base healthy and enabling team development. Recently I’ve seen teams start to use this feature and struggle with a consistently breaking gated check-in build. What I noticed was common across these builds was the cause – a locked file.

Gated Check In Build - Locked File Failure

This occurs when your check-in involves a binary file, which TFS automatically forces into a locking check out. This means that when your gated build goes to ‘get’ the file into it’s build workspace it clashes with the lock you have locally.

The fix here is to un-check the “Preserve my pending changes locally” option on the gated build initiation screen. This will undo your local changes and allow the build to get the binary into it’s workspace. The thing to remember here is if the build breaks, you’ll need to know the name of the shelve set to get it back down locally and fix the issue. Luckily it’s right there on the build initiation screen for you, and you can either screen shot or copy it out for later.

Your other option is to use the dialog that pops up with the build results to un shelve the changes…

What Strategic Planning is not?

Clearly, strategic planning is no panacea. Strategic planning is simply a set of concepts, procedures, and tools designed to help leaders, managers, and planners think and act strategically. Used in wise and skillful ways by a “coalition of the willing,” strategic planning can help organizations focus on producing effective decisions and actions that further the organization’s mission, meet in mandates, and satisfy key stakeholders. But strategic planning is not a substitute for strategic thinking and acting. Only caring and committed people can do that. And when used thoughtlessly, strategic planning can actually drive out precisely the kind of strategic thought and action it is supposed to promote.

Furthermore, strategic planning is not a substitute for leadership. There is simply no substitute for leadership when it comes to using strategic planning to enhance organizational performance. At least some key decision makers and process champions must be committed to the strategic planning process, or any attempts to use it are bound to fail.

In addition, strategic planning is not synonymous with creating an organizational strategy. Organizational strategies have numerous sources, both planned and unplanned. Strategic planning is likely to result in statement of organizational intentions, but what is realized in practice will be some combination of what is intended and what emerges along the way. Strategic planning can help organizations develop and implement effective strategies, but they should also remain open to unforeseen opportunities. Too much attention to strategic planning and excessive reverence for strategic plans can build organizations to other unplanned and unexpected—yet incredibly useful—sources of information, insight, and action.

The discipline necessary for strategic planning can be of two sorts. The first harkens back to Latin root of the word “discipline,” emphasizing instruction, training, education, and learning. The second embodies later interpretations of the word, emphasizing order, control, and punishment. Emphasis should be placed on education and learning, although there clearly are occasions when imposing order, taking control, and enforcing appropriate sanctions are appropriate. Certainly, key leaders, managers, and planners can best use strategic planning as an educational and learning tool, to help them figure out what is really important and what should be done about it. Sometimes this means following a particular sequence of steps and preparing formal strategic plans, but not necessarily. The ultimate goal of strategic planning should not be a rigid adherence to a particular process or an instance on the production of plans. Instead, strategic planning should promote wise strategic thought and action on behalf of an organization and its key stakeholders. What steps to follow, in what sequence, and whether or not to prepare formal plans are subsidiary concerns.

Vietnam needs to build brand name in ICT

Vietnam needs to build strong brand names in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in order to make it a strong ICT nation, according to the National Council for Scientific and Technological Policies (NCSTP).

At the council’s second plenary session in Hanoi on November 25, Minister of Information and Communications (MoIC) Le Doan Hop proposed four strategic measures to make Vietnam a strong ICT nation including improving infrastructure for broadband services, training human resources in ICT for the development of the e-Government and e-citizen models, completing the e-Government project and focusing on ICT production.

Mr. Hop also emphasised the two main targets of setting up ICT corporations to meet the country’s demand and penetrating the global market in order to make Vietnam become one of the world’s top ICT nations in the near future.

Many experts wanted the MoIC’s project to be carefully considered before submitting it to the Prime Minister for consideration.

Although the ICT sector has had great achievements in recent years, hardware production does not meet the domestic demand and this is considered an obstacle for the development of Vietnam’s ICT industry.

Dr. Do Trung Ta, NCSTP’s chairman, said Vietnam should attach greater importance to building brand names in ICT as well as promoting the images of Vietnam’s ICT with high-quality products and services.

“The Best MALAYSIAN BAND ever….!” hmm…. You decide…

Read our CYW Blogs just recently and was overwhelmed with the response that we get as a “band” part of a “Nation/World Changing Event”.

We definitely came a long way from where we were but we feel like its still a long way to go.

I don’t dare to claim that we are the BEST or any BETTER then the bands out there who we know personally but feel honored, in fact humbled by the response mentioned about us.

Again, It’s not about us but its what God can do through us. I’m not getting religious here, just being real.

We CHANGE because of who He is in our lives day in and day out. Our songs are real because of the seasons we have gone through with Him in our daily lives. We don’t just sing the songs but live the songs that requires us to die everyday.

I am blessed to be part of RELENT and CYW that so desire to see CHANGE take place in every aspect.

We want to thank you people on-stage, off-stage, crew, new friends, old friends, families, etc for all your support, love and respect in what we do. Its just a matter of time we’re gonna see great things take place in this Nation and together “WE” not just the BAND, can make a difference! ~nb

See - Cure - Tee

Love this verse. It’s comforting for me.

See – Cure – Tee or in other words “Security” Get it? Corny? Well I need a title anyway.

Hmmm… Let me elaborate using the verse.

See – Sometimes we get to caught up with the things around us that we forget to see things the way God sees. It takes faith!

Cure – God is the only cure of whatever misery you get yourself into.

Tee – Acc. to the free dictionary, one of the many meanings of Tee is “A device used to stand a football on end for a kickoff”

Personally, I’ll have my conversations with God in the area of finance, work, ministry, people, relationship etc. I have to admit that sometimes I’ll have my lows but my trust is in the Lord always.

I remember a few weeks ago a lady ask me “How’s life so far?” and I replied with confidence that “Everything is ok… Great infact!“

Obviously I had to elaborate what I had just said.

Well the reason I replied that way is because of the confidence I have in God. I know my God, I know He heals, protects, He provides. He knows my needs, He know our needs.

Life may have its challenges but as long as we call unto God and be confident of who He is in our life, our life here on earth is secured.

There is a lot, a portion, a cup that God has for each and everyone of us. We may not see it physically in our eyes as of yet but God does.

Let that not our worries be our focus, let the will of God in our lives be the main focus and our priority.

So what do we do? Where do we start?

Stop thinking of what you need coz God knows them and will provide. Start thinking of what God needs you to do coz people needs Him.

Be secured!

A new project: Joomla book

I’ve always been a “writer”. Not in the strict money-making sense of the word, obviously. But I do like to write alot. That’s why I picked up on blogging again. And, if I look at my visitor stats for the past two months, it seems like I’ve found the subject that I can write about while getting at least some feedback. Joomla, Open Source in general and other computer-related items seem to be doing well.

I’ve decided to use that knowledge to start on a new project. (Or, technically an old one I never got around to). When I started working with Joomla, about two years ago, I knew literally nothing about it. My only source of information was a book on Joomla 1.0.x. Looking back, that book was pretty much… crap. I ignored mostly everything in that book, and started to experiment on my own; and started to read stuff here and there on the internet. Today, I know my way in Joomla (still far from a Joomla expert, I still look for the easiest way to do anything) , and I believe that it’s my turn to give something back to the community.

That’s why I’m planning on writing a Joomla Guide (or a series of guides, it depends on the inspiration). It’ll be a long process, and I’m not quite certain on how I want to do things. One part of me screams “POST IT ON YOUR BLOG”, which would make perfect sense. The other part of me tells me to create some sort of book; which I then distribute trough my website. I’m not sure on the payment system, either. Making it free would be the “open source” way of working. But I’ve got to put my time and knowledge in that book – and I’ll probably do some writing on the job. So, a financial compensation of sorts would come in handy. But I don’t know if my work is “money-worthy”.

So, nothing is set in stone yet. For now, remember that I’m working on a Joomla book. Oh, and I finished the first page. For now.

Shedding light on Healadins

I’ve done a total of three healadins on hardcore Diablo II. I enjoy the build because of its unorthodox nature, not to mention it is generally extremely strong against undead. My first two focused on Holy Bolt + healing aura (either Cleansing or Meditation with Prayer maxed, Salvation and misc. auras on switch) and a healing A2 merc. First one got to hell (where I never proceeded onward thanks to the lack of decent parties), second to NM end. Neither died in battle or via PK as of yet, but technically they’re as good as retired already.

My third healer was a more experimental build. It was melee-oriented, using Charge as main attack. Not much Holy Bolt use or investment. All healing, if needed, was done using Cleansing (salvation, vigor, etc. on switch). Main weapon was Insight (lvl req 27), which effectively doubles prayer bonus. +59 healing aura to everyone, plus the benefit of a healing merc (who brought the total figure closer to +65 healing.) Another bonus with this build is that Meditation goes very well with Charge (compensating for that big mana cost.) I just love playing like this. Almost hard to return doing builds that have no regen healing at all (which is the norm, sadly.) Unfortunately even +65 regen healing starts to get somewhat lacking at mid-way of Nightmare, but before that, you and your party are kept very safe. With twinking you could get almost +200 total regen healing aura, which sounds completely ridiculous… (currently at NM end, but might not continue becuse hell is like it is…)

It’s a build that is a different one and also very cool to play. I might do a new one in near-future.
