Bunker A6 in Astene, ’s Gravenstraat – Kortrijkse Heerweg

Deze bunkers zijn enkele van de vele die gebouwd werden in de jaren dertig om Gent te verdedigen. Rond sommige van deze bunkers vonden ook gevechten plaats tijdens de invasie van het Duitse leger in wereldoorlog II.
Oorspronkelijk werden ze gemaakt om er uit te zien als gewone huisjes met houten daken, vensters etc.

La didascalia lo chiama ancora Cassius Clay l’immagine lo proietta già tra le icone del nostro tempo. È immenso e terribile, piantato a gambe larghe sopra il povero Sonny Liston che è crollato al primo minuto del primo round. L’abbiamo visto mille volte, stampato e duplicato in formati mignon o extralarge. Ma il negativo è uno solo, è datato 25/5/1965, e per tenerlo tra le dita non resta che andare fino a Pittsburgh, prendere l’Interstate 79 e perdersi tra i boschi della Pennsylvania.

Perché qui, nel silenzio della contea di Butler, a 60 metri sottoterra, in un caveau naturale imbottito di roccia calcarea, riposa il primo secolo di cronaca diventato storia grazie alla fotografia: gli eroi della boxe, i primi aeroplani, la lingua di Einstein, il cranio glabro di Gandhi.

Oppure il Vietnam: c’è una ragazzina a braccia spalancate. Abbiamo visto mille volte anche lei, in quasi quarant’anni di repliche è diventata il simbolo dello schifo della guerra, di nuovo e diverso c’è solo la punzonatura sul margine inferiore della pellicola. Conoscevamo le stampe, teniamo in mano il negativo col buco. Era lì quando cadevano le bombe, sempre lì quando l’ufficio di Saigon decideva su che inquadratura puntare. Ora è qui, a temperatura, umidità e sorveglianza costanti. Mentre ce lo rigiriamo tra le dita pensiamo all’androide di Blade Runner e alla sua malinconia per quelle immagini destinate a perdersi «come lacrime nella pioggia».

Nella contea di Butler hanno deciso di conservare tutto. Compresi l’orrore della guerra e la memoria dei buchi. Cent’anni di storia in quasi otto milioni di scatti. Quanto vale il ricordo delle minuzie e delle altezze del Novecento? Per qualità e varietà delle immagini la collezione Bettmann è un monumento a quello che sembrava il primo ed è stato l’ultimo secolo della fotografi a analogica. Nasce europea, diventa americana quando Otto Bettmann è costretto ad abbandonare Berlino con due bauli zeppi di immagini («Ma che si porta dietro l’ebreo?», commentano i doganieri del Reich), è patrimonio dell’umanità da quando basta un clic per richiamare sullo schermo il sigaro di Fidel Castro o le due dita di Winston Churchill.

Fino a qualche anno fa riceveva al terzo piano di 902 Broadway. Poi ci si è resi conto che il caldo e l’umidità di New York ne stavano spappolando i negativi e sbiadendo le diapositive: «Si sentiva puzza d’aceto, come sempre quando stai per perdere delle pellicole d’annata», ricorda ora Henry Wilhelm, il guru della conservazione fotografica che con una relazione di 21 pagine negli ultimi anni ’90 spiega perché è ora di mettere tutto al sicuro sottoterra.

Fortuna vuole che dal ’95 la collezione Bettmann sia entrata in pancia a Corbis, l’agenzia di Bill Gates che in pochi anni si è accaparrata i migliori giacimenti fotografici su piazza: dai diritti di riproduzione dell’Ermitage di San Pietroburgo alla collezione di Lynn Goldsmith sulle stelle del rock, ai milioni di scatti dell’agenzia francese Sygma. Come sempre quando si tratta di proprietà intellettuale, a tanti acquisti seguono altrettante polemiche ma per la fragile collezione sulla Broadway un padrone di nome Bill Gates vuol dire soprattutto volontà e mezzi per traslocare milioni di foto. Detto, fatto. Ecco perché invece che a Manhattan ora siamo tra vacche e scoiattoli, davanti a un’ex miniera che l’ossessione americana per la sicurezza ha trasformato in rifugio a prova di Armageddon nucleare.

L’ingresso è una voragine improvvisa, i controlli sono ferrei e prima di entrare dobbiamo consegnare il passaporto e ritirare un estintore d’emergenza. La contea di Butler è una delle aree meno sismiche degli Stati Uniti, e il suo sottosuolo offre garanzie di cui approfittano in tanti: con l’auto elettrica passiamo davanti ai magazzini blindati di Sony, Cbs, Paramount e altre decine senza nome protetti da portoni senza insegna. È un immenso labirinto di cinque metri d’altezza sigillato da uno strato di roccia immobile da 300 milioni di anni.

Quando si tratta di allestire l’eterno gli americani fanno le cose per bene: i 2300 clienti di Iron Mountain – colosso dell’archiviazione da 20mila dipendenti che dal ’98 è proprietario della miniera – sanno che la sorveglianza armata è attiva 24 ore su 24, che il fire department può intervenire ovunque entro due minuti, e che se domani il mondo là fuori sparisse, qui sotto sarebbe business as usual per almeno una settimana. Lo spazio a disposizione è stato conquistato da centinaia di minatori che per decenni si sono fatti largo a colpi di dinamite: «Per capire la solidità della struttura bisogna pensare che ha resistito a mezzo secolo di esplosioni», spiega Charles J. Doughty, manager che frequenta questi cunicoli da quasi quarant’anni.

Il consumo di energia è ridotto al minimo anche per la presenza di un lago sotterraneo che a breve sarà inserito nel ciclo di raffreddamento degli impianti elettrici e informatici: generatori, deumidificatori e l’enorme data center che assicura il back up di due milioni di computer sparsi in tutti gli States. Negli anni ’60 queste cavità venivano pubblicizzate come il luogo ideale dove trascorrere l’inverno nucleare, oggi si sono specializzate in informazioni senza data di scadenza.

«Il 95 per cento dei dati di aziende ed enti federali ha una vita di 3–7 anni», precisa Doughty. «Noi ci occupiamo del resto». Inutile chiedergli chi e per quanto tempo qui conservi che cosa: oltre il 90 per cento dei clienti pretende l’anonimato, approfittando della coltre di discrezione che avvolge questo luogo. Siamo fortunati, le nostre foto rappresentano una squillante eccezione: di fronte a tanto riserbo fa quasi tenerezza superare l’ultimo pilastro di roccia e trovarci di fronte a due palmette e un’insegna che recita semplicemente “Corbis”.

Ann Hartmann, che dal 2002 dirige la Corbis film preservation facility, ci accoglie con caffelatte, cheesecake e la solidarietà istintiva che scatta tra umani reduci da paesaggi estremi….

Dass Schlagworte scheinbar zusammenhangslos und voller Wut über Tonspuren gerufen und Melodien auch gerne mal am Takt vorbei laufen sind wir von den Goldenen Zitronen gewohnt. Dieses experimentelle Trotzen gegenüber Altbekannten ist ihre Art der Rebellion für die sie bekannt und beliebt sind. Wem die Zitronen ein Begriff sind der wusste also von Vorneherein, dass es kein „Standard- Konzi“ werden sollte. Allein für das Outfit in dem sich die sechs Wahlhamburger am Samstagabend präsentierten hatte sich der Besuch bereits gelohnt. Mit glanzfarbenen Stoffen behangen und Turban oder Hörnern auf dem Kopf wurde das Konzert mit „Mila“ eröffnet. Wie es sich für echte Punkrocker gehört wurde gebrüllt, getanzt und getrunken. Politische Inhalte gab es zusätzlich durch eine Theaterperformance mit anschließender Einladung zur anstehenden Demo und dem Lied „Bürgermeister“ als eine von mehreren Zugaben.

Die Vorband „Station 17“, der Spaß der Bands auf der Bühne und der komplett volltrunkene Koloss der zum Schluss mit überkopfgezogener Kapuze in der ersten Reihe lag machten den Abend zu einem so erfrischenden Erlebnis. (mir)

This will keep you safe and once the swine flu has killed everyone off, you will have the chance to come out of your safe place and get all sorts of cool products at the store cause they will all be free! So as you can see, there is a positive side to this nasty pig flu!

Wrap your home in plastic wrap so the swine flu germs won’t be able to get in and then camp out in your place until the all clear whistle is blown. This may take several years so stock up on food and water so you won’t be found dead from starvation.

Vor vielen Wochen hatte ich uns angemeldet für eine Führung durch den Bunker  der Sammlung Boros – anders kommt man dort nicht hinein. Nur Anmeldung und auch nur am Wochenende!

Wir waren etwas unausgeschlafen unterwegs, weil gestern noch im Theater usw. – aber Olafur Eliasson lässt einen aufwachen – keine Frage! Whow! Einfach spannend! Eine interessante Installation jagt die nächste, man wird gerüttelt und geschüttelt zwischen physikalischem Realismus und Dadaismus, wird konfrontiert mit Geschichte im Bunker, der für 1200 Leute von den Nazis konzipiert und erbaut wurde, indem sich aber 4 bis 5tausend Menschen aufhielten während der Bombardierung. Mit Diamantschneidern wurden Räumlichkeiten für Kunstwerke geschaffen, die immer wieder Bezüge herstellen zur momentanen Herberge.

Beifall für einen Sammler, der es versteht, Kunst in Kontext zu bringen ohne sich anzubiedern.

Wer in diese graue Hülle eintaucht erlebt etwas, was er nicht vermutet …

Hablando de temas apocalípticos (con mi post crítica acerca de 2012), me encuentro con esta pregunta en Yahoo Answers que, al menos al leerla, me parece una maravilla, sobre todo porque el sujeto que la plantea seguro sí está hablando enserio. Y la respuesta no tiene precio…

One at a time, Goober and The Viking will go down the G&VRRF Member “Rapture 2.0″ List. They will make house calls to everyone on the list and convince them to get raptured. How they will do this is a patented trade secret. You may want to bring an extra change of clothes for them when you get raptured, ’cause they’ll really want to throw away their shoes when they finally arrive.

The entire time of both , Goober and The Viking will be performing petty crimes, binge-drinking and sleeping around as much as possible to keep their good-to-bad-karma-ratio in check. This is the sacrifice that they are willing to make to keep your loved ones and your cool stuff safe.

It’s a know FACT that the world will end on December 21st, 2012; the Mayans, Nostradamus, the Bible and MILLIONS of videos on YouTube can’t be wrong.

You’ve spent your entire life making some pretty neat friends and bought a LOT of really cool stuff. It’s too bad that when you get raptured up, your friends will be still be stuck down here in lakes of blood and seas of fire. All that stuff you bought will just be SITTING there while you strum on harps with Jesus and John Tesh in heaven.

If only there were SOME way you could use that stuff to get your friends into heaven too…

WAIT… There IS!

Almost every country has leftovers of wars. Some have still activated mines some have destroyed buildings, some fortification. Albania has bunkers. So what is so special about these bunkers. Actually nothing in particular. They have a round form and look pretty much the same all over the country. Only the amount of these leftovers are outrageous, 750.000! All these bunkers where built due to the “need” of protection during the cold war and sofar never have been in use!

So how are people dealing with them. How is life taking them over? What happend with some of them…? Gyler Mydyti & Elian Stefa are trying to focus on these issues in their upcoming documentary concrete mushrooms. they show in their trailer how people inhabit these monsters and how they are positioned in the landscape. Yeah, I thought that headline might grab your attention. It’s been over a week since Halloween, and I still haven’t blogged about what I watched that night. Usually, for me, Halloween is a time for getting reacquainted with an old favorite, like the holiday’s namesake from 1978. The evening’s viewing, whatever it may be, functions a bit like a security blanket. Comfortable. Dependable. Guaranteed to please. Only this year, I did something different. I unwrapped the crinkly cellophane from the jewel case and popped a movie that I’d never seen before into the player—a movie that’s like a cross between Predator and The Fog.

Behind you!

Outpost is an ambitious little British title from 2008, about an international cadre of mercenaries in some unnamed Eastern Europe warzone. Ray Stevenson, fresh from Rome, is the steely leader of the bunch. Julian Wadham, meanwhile, plays the shifty engineer who hired them. Ostensibly, he’s looking for minerals. Actually, he’s looking for an old SS bunker—on behalf of some shady and very wealthy backers, naturally. The bunker houses a wartime experiment designed to produce invulnerable soldiers, and when the ragtag mercenaries find it, messy deaths follow.

And you!

I enjoyed Outpost very much, due in no small part to the impressively dank set design and lighting. The story doesn’t stand up to too much scrutiny, though. For one thing, the bunker seems to be located a short walk from a well-maintained country road. In all the years since 1945, no one stumbled across it and disturbed the ethereal Nazis who reside in the area? And the ending, in which the survivors decide to draw the undead troops into the bunker, makes no sense, since we’ve seen the specters in the grimy halls and quarters many times already. But these are minor quibbles if the viewer, like me, is just looking for some decent, well-made entertainment. With an orchestral score, no less. How often do you hear that in a low budget horror movie?

The undead Nazis come out to play.

The characters are underwritten at the expense of story progression, but the acting is solid. And all the actors are British, which came as a surprise—Brett Fancy and Enoch Frost, playing Russian and African respectively, are quite convincing. And while the hulking Stevenson is an effective central presence, Paul Blair’s Jordan, the only soldier who dares to occasionally drop the tough guy act, makes a bigger impression. Thankfully, he makes it to the end …  almost. Jordan also has the creepiest scene I’ve seen in ages, when he goes, all alone, to check out a room full of German corpses. They are dead, right? Hey, get your mitts on Outpost and see for yourself. It’s got the OP-dEaD blood-spattered seal of approval.

Istoria casei este una interesantă… Imobilul a fost cosntruit în secolul al XIX-lea. După ascensiunea lui Hitler, Martin Bormann a cumpărat imobilul cu fonduri ale Partidului Naţional-Socialist (Nazist); o mărturie a acestei acţiuni a lui Martin Bormann sunt cele două iniţiale M B forjate în fier, care mai subzistă pe poarta casei. Casa a fost declarată monument naţional. Casa a fost transformată de nazişti într-un centru cultural şi era vizitată de către cei care doreau să vadă locul naşterii Führerului.

La venirea trupelor americane, naziştii fanatici au încercat să o arunce clădirea în aer, pentru a nu cădea în mâinile duşmanilor, dar clădirea a rezistat. După război, casa a fost retrocedată familiei Pommer în 1952. Apoi, clădirea a adăpostit pe rând o bibliotecă publică, o şcoală, o bancă, un institut tehnic şi chiar… un adăpost pentru persoane cu dizabilităţi.

Părerea mea personală este că scoaterea la licitaţie a casei de naştere a lui Hitler nu este deloc întâmplătoare. În vremuri de Criză, oamenii sunt atraşi de ideologiile extremiste.

Here I am again. Lodged in my bunker, thinking about the earthquake last week. I was tired when I came home late from the movies last Saturday night: my eyes were closing in the opening scenes of the film! Anyway, I crashed onto the bed and immediately zoned out into La La land. When I woke the bed was shaking and being somewhere between consciousness and deep sleep, I couldn’t figure out which end was up. Err, the bed is shaking, okay, why would it do that? Maybe those noisy neighbours getting home late are hooning around in a really crazy way, crazier than usual, in that rusty pick up truck, sound system on mega, mega high, transmitting thump-thump music to the whole of the Northern Territory. Well, by the time I roused myself and got out of bed the shaking had stopped – that’s good – go back to sleep. I was back in coma-land pretty quick I reckon.

Now the quake was about 6.4 on the Rickter scale. It’s a bit of a worry when you are so dozy you don’t even know you’ve been through an earthquake! Am I loosing it? she wonders. Haven’t slept through a quake since I was a kid in the Southern Highlands (NSW). They were only occasional then, but when one shook us up a bit, Mum, being a New Zealander, would remind us of how they had them all the time back in New Plymouth, and there’d be ornaments flying everywhere, bookshelves falling . . . These days apparently they stick down precious ornaments with Blu-tack to keep them in place when the Earth Gods rumble around down below. Can you imagine – ‘This is my Limoges porcelain, darling, with matching Blu-tack.’

Queriam construir bunker subterrâneo

O bizarro comportamento dos pais do ‘menino do balão’ pode ter uma explicação ainda mais bizarra: segundo um amigo, o casal Heene inventou toda a história para ganhar dinheiro, de modo a poder construir um abrigo subterrâneo para escapar ao fim do Mundo, que – acreditam – chegará em 2012.

A mirabolante explicação foi dada por Robert Thomas, o amigo do casal com quem a polícia afirmou esta semana desejar falar, que poderá ser uma importante testemunha da alegada fraude. No início do ano, Thomas e Richard Heene reuniram-se várias vezes para falar dos projectos televisivos do casal e aventaram na altura a possibilidade de criar um novo ‘caso Roswell’ recorrendo, precisamente, a um balão de ar quente.

Apesar de ainda não ter falado com a polícia, Robert Thomas já vendeu a sua história aos jornais, e um dos pormenores mais picantes que contou foi precisamente afirmar que os Heene viviam obcecados com a ideia do apocalipse e de que precisavam de construir um bunker para escapar. A família terá, por isso, montado o ‘golpe do balão’ para se tornar famosa e assim garantir um chorudo contrato com uma televisão.

Yo dudes, it’s friday and i’m getting ready for a night with steak, beer and bowling with Wanr and the wives. The last couple of days we’ve been working at the bunker trying to fix it up as good and fast as we possibly can. Here’s a few flicks.

This afternoon we hooked up with Gasque and the Cityfellaz. They’re having a factory outlet today and tomorrow. Go check it out: VESTERBROGADE 91, friday 13-20 and saturday 11-17. Got myself a sweet tee.

Now, off to steak and bowling…YO!
