Sometimes I misplace things. Or, I put them very carefully in special places so that I don’t misplace them again. And sometimes, I have to give up, admit defeat, and re-purchase said items. Last week, I lost my bunny rabbit tails. Here’s a bunny waving a little sadly, trying to cover his bottom with his other paw- to hide the fact he has no tail:

As I’ve been bed-ridden for the past four days I haven’t done a lot of cooking (N has stepped into that role) or a lot in the garden. So I haven’t really got a lot to share, other than that I am bored of sitting in bed.

I decided it would be a good chance to share some recent photos of our lovely bunnies – Borage and Lovage – enjoying themselves come rain or shine…

Borage wondering why his food bowl is empty, and could he please just have a little bit more…

Borage mowing our lawn (he’s very good at it – N is a bit gutted that the bunnies do such a good job)…

This next series of photos are of Lovage, who whilst out in the run encountered a rather heavy rain shower (we’ve had lots in England recently).

Rather than being a sensible bunny and seeking cover under the shelter we provided, he decided he was hard enough to stay out in it. N brought in a rather soggy looking bunny who was treated to a good rub down with a tea towel. Silly bunny…

Lovage wanting to know what we’re looking at…yes…your silly hair-do…

The last bunny was doing incredibly! Eating over his body weight in food on a daily basis, consistin

The last bunny was doing incredibly! Eating over his body weight in food on a daily basis, consisting of grass & clover. He’d doubled his weight since we got him…

Hubby & I had debated over in our minds as we educated ourselves about our Cottontails, and had realized that they will not domesticate. So if we were to make any successful attempt at having a semblance of a bunny meat farm, we should use domesticated bunnies. If we were to try to breed a domesticated bunny and a Cottontail, the result would be wild bunnies.

So, we decided that wild bunnies need to be wild. Not in a cage, and that it was the ethical and moral thing to do. Release the bunny back to the wild.

Yesterday morning, we did just that! We found a grassy area away from camp, down a path we rarely take. The grass was very tall and abundant with wood sorrel. There was a bush that had a little hutch area for the bunny to live. Perfect! We let the bunny go, and it hopped right into the protected area.

We saw it was good and went about our daily business to tending the woods & chopping firewood.

The next morning, we thought we’d check on the little guy- just to see… He was laying cold in the path… No explanation as to why he died, no signs of struggle or fight… I just don’t understand.

I sit here, frustrated, disappointed, confused.

We took the lives of three innocent bunnies into our hands with the “best of intentions”, and for various reasons, killed all of them! What “stuards of the land” we are!!

Ok, so another lesson learned. No matter how bad off you think baby bunny rabbits are in the wild- leave them! Even if you think they’re going to die at your hand or because of your doing. They have a much higher survival rate if you don’t even touch them. It truly is the ethical thing to do – to let nature truly take its course…

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore, Patrick Swayze, Jena Mal0ne Written and Directed by: Rich

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore, Patrick Swayze, Jena Mal0ne

Written and Directed by: Richard Kelly

This is one weird movie. And having seen it for the second time, I mean this in a good way.

It was a friend’s birthday and we got him a mid-sized figure of the Bunny-rabbit Frank from the movie.

For those of you who haven’t seen it, here is Frank:

Don’t worry. You do get to know what’s with the weird suit, where (most of) Donnie (J. Gyllenhaal) ’s troubles come from. You will however probably be left with some questions in your head so I suggest the director’s cut.

The plot is too complicated to give it justice but let’s just say Donnie is a troubled upper-middle class teenager who isn’t exactly on great terms with his family. Things get creepier when he starts to see the images of this man-sized rabbit that talks to him and directs him- it even saves Donnie’s life. So Donnie starts doing things that could get him in trouble. So he has to deal with weird teachers (with the exception of the science teacher and the English teacher (Drew Barrymore), the sexual frustrations of an adolescent, the intensity of his feelings for the new girl, his sanity, questions about the possibility of time travel and his psychiatrist… It’s fun, dark, thrilling and well-shot. The music is pretty cool and the plot is original. At least I haven’t seen the same elements combined like this and have a good result.

Donnie (Jake) and the cool Englih teacher (Barrymore)

What the hell is the rabbit doing with Donnie? I find the answer to be original. I don’t think it is as brilliant and breath-taking as the 8.3 ranking it got from the IMDB voters but I think it is a solid 7.5

Give it a shot. Or just watch it again.

OPERATION: BUNNY RABBIT

by DaJoker

Hey Doc, take a look at this! I think we got somethin' here.

What we’re trying to achieve with Operation Bunny Rabbit is a competent Rodent Defensive Capability (RDC). This will give most human beings a basic idea of how to defend themselves and their loved ones from violent predatory attacks.

The first concept in RDC is that you have a right to defend yourself. The second concept is that you have the right to decide when it is necessary to defend yourself. The third concept is that when you have decided that you need to defend yourself, you should concentrate on the defense and not concern yourself with hypothetical future possibilities related to the defense.

Before we talk about RDC, let’s use an insect defensive response as an example. You can either try this experiment for yourself or you can follow along with your imagination. Go to any body of water, a lake or river and seek out the calm water next to the shore. There, you should find a number of water spiders on the surface. Now grab one and hold it tightly in your hand. You should experience a bite with sufficient pain to make you let go.

Now if the water spider had the mindset of a modern domesticated American Citizen, it would be thinking counterproductive thoughts like, “the human could crush me in his hand, I better not bite him.” The spider’s bite caused the human to let go, so a decision not to bite would have actually opened up the water spider to many unpleasant possibilities. The human could decide to pull the spider’s legs off one by one; he could hold the spider down and burn it with a magnifying glass (a classic maneuver of little boys); or, he could throw it on the ground and stomp on it or crush it with a rock.

Moving on to a RDC response, let’s consider the lowly bunny rabbit down in her hole with her little baby rabbits. If you stick your hand down into the rabbit den and try to grab the mother or any of her brood, the mother rabbit will bite and kick you until the threat stops; i.e. until you
withdraw your hand from the hole. The rabbit isn’t having domesticated doubts about the defense such as, the human could go get a shovel or the human could go get a shotgun, stick it into the hole and kill us all. But even if that did happen the defensive reaction would be helpful to the species as a whole because the human could get hurt and would forever be reluctant to attempt the same thing again.

Most wild mammals will bite and put up a fierce struggle once the threat becomes immediate and unavoidable; once fleeing, freezing or other defensive options are not available. With domesticated human beings, I’m afraid that is just not the case. Somehow, the ability to realize an eminent threat and to defend against it has been bred out of the modern, domesticated human.

It hasn’t always been this way. During the majority of human history, people have been aware that human beings are violent, dangerous and predatory. They realized that it was necessary to be able to fight and to defend one’s community or tribe and their way of life from assaults by other tribal groups. They realized that strength and a show of force was the safest position that they could take in order to prevent an attack from taking place or to successfully defend against an attack.

What are you most afraid of when it comes to violent human predation? Is it criminals or Islamic terrorists? How about the IRS? With criminals and terrorists we are allowed to defend ourselves and the probability of assault is relatively low. With the IRS, stop filing your tax
return and you have an almost 100% certainty that a violent, predatory gang of armed men will assault you. Stop paying your property tax and the same thing will happen only this time it will be the local sheriff.

It’s now much worse than the above examples, folks. As I stated in “Diabolical Paradigms,” the government has now assumed the power to do anything they want to any individual, any group of persons, any city, any state or the whole country at once. We are all in the most extreme danger imaginable. Anyone can be declared an enemy combatant according to the Military Commissions Act of 2006.

There are forms of pain that are much worse than the pain of warfare. Being totally helpless and having all manner of atrocities performed on your children or your wife or mother, while you watch – that’s worse. Everything that has been done to people in Iraq; in Fallujah or in Abu Ghraib prison can now happen here, in America.

So, let’s all try and step up to a Rodent Defensive Capability. Then, perhaps we’ll be ready for the Human Defensive Capability (HDC) the Nation was founded on.

“How we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling in terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood that they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers or whatever else was at hand…The security operatives would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and not withstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!”

So, I’m really fascinated with the world of “softies” and stuffed animal toys. This isn’t anything I have ever attempted to sew though. Until now. I got this pattern for a sleeping bunny rabbit from mmmcrafts. I actually found it in her Etsy shop. I am so impressed with those who have the ability to “create” patterns. When I start a pattern, I always think, this has to be wrong, it will never turn out. After I complete my project, I always think, wow, that was pretty clever. So I ventured out on a limb for this little project, and I had a lot of fun with it. You really have a lot of room for creativity here. You can have eyes opened, eyes closed, short ears, long ears, and of course, any fabric you desire. Making this little bunny only made me want to make more. I’m going to look around for some more really cute stuffed toy patterns. If I find any, I’ll let you know.

there goes peter cotton tail, hopping down the bunny trail! la de da.

ahem.

well unfortunately this Easter, there was one less bunny rabbit hopping around.

…

it was a cold, dark April morning around 5:30am, when Mac & Trin woke up and started nudging me to let them outside. it was as if they knew.

i drug my feet out of bed and staggered downstairs to open the back door, not thinking of the poor bunnies happily grazing in our yard before the sun came out.

as soon as i opened the screen door, Mac & Trin raced out at light speed. i laughed as I thought to myself, “wow they must have really had to pee.”

i was wrong.

my sweet pups instantly turned into hunting dogs and were chasing the frantic bunny rabbit around the yard until it finally gave up with no way out. then Mac instinctively took the first bite and i heard the rabbit squeal. it was the worst sound i had ever heard. maybe. i don’t know, but it was bad.

it all happened so fast, and i felt so helpless as i could do nothing to save the poor little bunny.

i ran upstairs crying and whining. eric woke up thinking i had been shot.

“no, i’m fine” i said, “but the dogs murdered an easter bunny!”

the look he gave me was priceless.

however, instead of being angry that i woke him up at 5:30am, he came to my rescue. eric quickly got dressed, went outside and somehow got the dogs to stop playing “tug-of-war” with the dead bunny carcass. he brought the dogs inside, scolded them, washed them off, and even disposed of the dead bunny. he’s my hero!

…

happy easter!

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you have a lovely day doing all that Easter means to you

These are the Easter baskets I made for my kids this Easter. The baskets were inspired by Makeesha Byl (there is an awesome tutorial on this link) and the bunny rabbit was inspired by Kylie Swain – thanks so much for sharing your talent, ladies!! I did change the size of the basket … my boys have dairy issues (one quite serious) … so no chocolate for their baskets. I bought a plate and other things for the boys … so I needed to upgrade the size of the basket. I used a 12 x 12 sheet and took the handle and a strip for the bunny rabbit punches all from the same 12×12 sheet.

Anyway, the first basket is for my almost 2 year old son. I’ve used the colour So Saffron, some retired Certainly Celery DSP and the Nursery Letters wheel:

And I’ve used the big Designer Brad (Circle) on the handle …

The second basket is for my 3 year old son. I’ve used the colour Ballet Blue, some retired DSP and the Classic Stars wheel:

I made this basket first, so it’s a bit bigger! It only had 1 strip for the handle taken out of the 12×12 sheet …

And I’ve used the big Designer Brad (Star) on the handle … and Josh has already pointed to it and said “I love my star!”. Cool!!

The third basket is for my 4 year old daughter. No dairy issues here – so we have chocolates!! LOL!! I’ve used the colour Regal Rose, some retired paper from the Winter Bright Simply Scrappin’ kit and the Scribble wheel:

And I’ve used the big Designer Brad (Flower) on the handle …

I’m happy to say the baskets are a hit … the kids (especially the boys) are walking around with them everywhere!!

Oh … and here are some Easter hats I made for Easter Hat parades too (and my beautiful models, naturally, my babies!! Josh, Bella and Harry – from left to right) …

Needless to say, the hats were a hit with the kids too!!

Have a safe Easter break … thanks for looking
