I don’t know why I can’t seem to get this blog started today… I have writtenthe first line and erased the first line more often than I can count. And it really shouldn’t be that difficult – I just want to talk about toys. And Christmas.

Toys and Christmas. How hard can it be?

Well, apparently, today it can be very hard (Maybe it is a Monday-after-a-long-weekend-thing). But I digress…

I was at the library some time ago when I came across this really nifty how-to book for knitting teddy bears. (I really can’t remember the name of the book, and it doesn’t really even matter now – but I mention the book because before I saw it, I never even thought of knitting my own teddy bear.) It was an a-ha moment for sure. Knitting a home-made teddy bear? Never had I given thought to such a thing before! But… wow! What a neat thought!!!

So… I grabbed my knitting needles to make one of my very own. The whole project was a bit of a challenge since I was just learning to knit at the time, but I stumbled through and ended up with a really cute little bear. I named him Samuel.

I suppose I could have stopped there, but I didn’t. It turns out that knitting teddy bears can be quite addictive. Now, at the date of this writing, I have 6 adorable bears – and I am sure that this is only the beginning. (I also have 1 bunny because in one of my more creative moments, I decided that my white bear-to-be would be better off as a bunny. I named her Sabella. She has the cutest pink nose!)

And, because all of us here at Daylilies are encouraging you to give handmade and homemade for Christmas this year (from your hearts and hands), the knitted teddy bear is Creative Christmas Gift Idea #25. Like the other knitted projects I have included so far, this knitting project is good for beginners and advanced knitters alike. Taking approximately 50g of med weight yarn, and roughly 6-8 hours of knitting time (and remember – I am a very slow knitter), the knitted teddy bear is a great idea for your gift giving this year. This is giving from the ‘heart and hands’ at its very finest.

The pattern I designed for my bears is available for download from Daylilies. But, if that teddy bear (or bunny) doesn’t inspire you, check out some other really neat patterns available out on the web – I found this really cute knitted ‘Mr. Bean style‘ bear or try the Brenda bear by Lincraft. And, if you would rather crochet, take a peek at the adorable better bear pattern offered at By Hook, By Hand.

Happy Knitting (oh… and don’t be surprised when you find yourself knitting little bear clothing too. Did I say knitting bears can be addictive?)

All of the religions of the world have their special days. Holy days. They are important to the followers of that religion. The rest of us might recognize the holy day’s name when we hear it, and may even know something of the customs of the day. Beyond that, as followers of another religion, the day has little impact on our lives.

Then there is Christmas. Devised by Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus, and celebrated in December as an ancient alternative to pagan winter celebrations, it is a holiday (holy day) that is observed by millions of every creed. Sadly, not as a religious holiday, but as a commercial one. Merchants begin the day after Thanksgiving to ply consumers with discounts on virtually every kind of item. And credit lenders salivate as consumers spend more than is sensible as they rabidly jam shops and malls in a kind of gift-giving one-upmanship.

On Christmas Eve, many will jam churches and cathedrals to sing carols, say prayers, and ostensibly celebrate the birth of Jesus. We will see them in the pews again on Easter Sunday. You know, the day the big pink bunny hides the eggs.

First off, I just gotta say that I love you so much, Bunny<333 You’re such a cute and awesome person and girlfriend<3

Bunny was here this weekend, and then we told my parents we were together. Dad din’t really react, and mum just… Looked hellofalot sceptical. “What kind of girlfriend?” she asks? What did she think? Have I ever introduced any of my friends as “girlfriend” before? NO. She didn’t really say more, THEN. Later though, Hotaru came home all puffy and angry (he and mum went to the store in Hallsberg to buy food). Guess what mum said to him? That she had a hard time believing in it, that me and Bunny really were a couple, and that it was probably “just like your ‘transexual’-thing” she told Hotaru. Meaning mum says it’s all cuz of the manga? That we’re too young to know such stuff? Hell, we’re soon 18, how old do we have to be until we’re taken seriously? Hell, they still treats us like babies and pure idiots. I wanna move…. but I’m not allowed to… I wanna be 18 now..

So, current plans are like this;
turn 18–>get drivers licence–>finish HS–>MOVE–>BYE FAMILY!
Damn, the only relative I liked except Hotaru is’nt alive anymore. Grandma’ was awesome. I mean, how many old women likes Avenue Q’s “If you were gay”?

Jya, I’ll go continue clean my room and thinking of my darlin’.<3

And ofc, finish with something sweet! CUPCAKE!

Playboy’s Miss November 1986, the lovely and talented Donna Edmondson, was named the Playmate

Playboy’s Miss November 1986, the lovely and talented Donna Edmondson, was named the Playmate of the Year in 1987, fitting given that her high school yearbook predicted she was “Most Likely to Become a Bunny.” (What the hell kind of high school yearbook adviser approves that as a category?!) However, her more lasting claim to fame has been her reknown as The Virgin Playmate.

Photographed by Arny Freytag and Stephen Wayda

She had at least gotten to first base; that was her position on her softball team in high school (rimshot!). Actually, it was, in all seriousness — she played first base for her high school in Greensboro, North Carolina. But back to the more interesting issue. Quite the controversy was sparked by the 20-year-old real estate agent’s vow of virginity, which she discussed in her Playmate interview.

“Men are wonderful, but I haven’t really let one close enough to me that I can talk about sex the way some girls can. Virginity isn’t something you discuss. I’m not ashamed of still having mine, mind you. It’s just not something I really want to talk about — except, of course, with the man who takes it away from me.” (“Sold on Donna,” Playboy, November 1986)

I thought about that when I posed for my layout — imagining the kind of sex I’ll one day have. I don’t know when or where it will happen. But I do know it’ll be with somebody I know and love.”

That’s pretty much all she said, but some fits were pitched and fell back in because of where America was, pornography-wise at this time. Let me bend your ear a tick on this topic, if it is news to you. What Ms. Edmondson accidentally stepped her pretty feet in was a total quagmire of hypocrisy and legal issues which had not much to do with her but plenty to do with the Meese Commission and how entertainment dealt with and tacitly sold the lifestyle of the modern single, the aftermath of the Sexual Revolution including the devastating consequences of HIV, and general assumptions of viewer maturity made by media distribution outlets vis-a-vis sexual morals at that particular juncture. What you had was a total flood of the market with new porn and ever-developing potential technologies for its procurement. So you had morality cops panicking bigtime.

Think about it. There was an explosion of private media possibilities in the 1980’s, and they were readily affordable to Joe Vaseline, which means, no matter where the man of the house stashed them, the chance lurked that Junior, too, would have access. Suddenly you could get porn in a pack of spank-sock’s worth of new forms, an embarassment of riches: direct-to-VHS format, dedicated adult cable channels, and even at the good ol’ liquor store from the more and more competing –and niche– skin magazines all making porn less controlled and more widely sold than ever before. Oh, the heyday! But of course, religion and politics intervened.

Sitcom stars, rock musicians, magazine publishers, freaking everyone was caught by Tipper Gore and Edwin Meese with their dicks in their hands on Capitol Hill, and the religious right was burning Blondie records for moral turpitude. Like, Jesus Jumped-Up Christ-Bananas! That is some ticklish shit to accidentally have come your way! And you’d think they would have all been proud of her …

I will let Ms. Edmondson’s official Playboy biography tell the rest of this interesting story.

The text to my original pictorial announced my virginity — and that created quite a stir. Also at this time, the anti-pornography report of the Meese Commission had prompted all 7-Elevens to pull the magazine from their shelves. I was thrown right in the middle of the scandal! All the talk shows immediately wanted to book the virgin PMOY from the Bible Belt. Joan Rivers made a huge deal out of my virginity on her show, but I just explained that you don’t have to have sex to be sexy.

On Larry King’s show, one caller accused me of not being religious because I let men see my body. But I don’t think that posing in Playboy has anything to do with whether I’m a good person. I knew I wasn’t hurting anyone. I defended myself by saying that God made us nude. We were born that way!

But I don’t regret a single moment. I thought the pictures were beautiful and tasteful, and all the Playboy people treated me very well. It was a great experience that I will never forget.

So how did the story work out for Ms. Edmondson? Seems it worked out smashingly, so in the haters’ faces. Once again, her words:

I took a job as a tax accountant, and on my first day of work I met the man who would become my husband. It was his last day of work; our eyes met, and I just knew he was the one. So I asked HIM out, we had lunch together the next week and we were together from then on.

As for my former claim to fame — as the virgin PMOY — all I can say is: Not anymore! Lots of love to you!

Dig the cover: ironically, Joan Rivers, who gave Ms. Edmondson such “holy hell,” so to speak, over the next several months after this issue was published, was herself profiled in the magazine the very same month. So it’s okay to be interviewed but not to pose? Or is it just for young women, or ones who you perceive as less bright than yourself, that the you-cannot-be-a-role-model-and-be-in-Playboy’s-pages applies? Is it that if a woman wants to be sexy she must want to be sexual? Do you enjoy pointing out hypocrisy only when it is not you, yourself, who is being a hypocrite? Where are the lines in the sand for you, Joanie? Is it not merely the case that you want attention at any cost and have made a career of glomming on to hot button people and topics in order to clutch every possible shred of spotlight in your cruel, manicured claws? Booyakasha!

Sorry, I do not normally take such personal issue with anyone who has appeared on camera with a Muppet, but Joan Rivers literally makes her living by being a mean hag, so screw her. Her career could have been great, she could have been an important special woman in the history of females on television, and she pissed it away to keep the level of fame she was accustomed to, with no integrity. Fuck Joan Rivers.

Anyway, so, Virgin Playmate. Tight, huh!

Another playmate who began as a bunny, 1965’s Miss November was the lovely and talented Pat Ru

Another playmate who began as a bunny, 1965’s Miss November was the lovely and talented Pat Russo, a Connecticut girl who modeled briefly in Manhattan for the famous Barbizon Agency(kind of scammy in my opinion but some real careers have started there, so I’m not going to hate too hard). She hated the cold, relocated to Florida not too much later, and said in her interview that, after one winter in Florida, “‘Autumn in New York’ was just another pretty song as far as I was concerned!” She was scouted for the centerfold while working at the Miami club (“Pat Pending,” Playboy, November 1965).

Photographed by Pompeo Posar

This is kind of a weird one. I believe that Playboy did two different photoshoots (very common), but the stylists communicated poorly … if they communicated at all. Here’s what I think happened with this shoot.

Maybe the people in charge of hair and makeup on the different days this shoot was done were in a fight and not speaking, or maybe they had a conversation about ideas for Ms. Russo’s “look” but came away without a unity of vision, or even maybe some other type of accident or act of God intervened vis-a-vis the two different colored hairpieces, styling, etc. I mean, the girl is blonde one time and solidly ash brunette the next; she doesn’t even look like the pictures were taken in the same year, let alone afternoon.

Whatever happened here, too much time has passed to tell. But the end result is that it appears from some of the pictures, when you take the spread as a whole, as though Ms. Russo could be two almost totally different women.

All pictures are of her, though — I verified it with her Yahoo! groups fan club leader (last post on their bulletin board was in December of 2006, but the moderator still checks his email, bless his vintage-pin-up-lovin’ heart; thanks again for the lightning-fast response time, buddy!).

Speaking of styling, the cover is a blatant and (I checked the table of contents) totally unattributed rip off of the magnificent, incredible, erotic work of photographer and personal patron saint Sam Haskins, specifically his picture book/mystery/western short story Cowboy Kate (1964). I guess imitation is the highest form of flattery, but I am so genuinely bummed and perturbed by the fact that you might mistake the originality and brilliance of this composition –

Totally uncredited rip-off photographed by Pompeo Posar. (Model’s name is Beth Hyatt.) Pompeo, I am hella disappointed in you.

– the parted lips which echo the round opening of the gun barrel, the swinging curtain of blonde hair beneath the rounded black cowboy hat, the always-a-great-idea toplessness — as belonging to some cover designer at Playboy (all respect to their often-clever work) and not to the living god that is Sam Haskins that I do believe, holy shit, you guys, December is going to have to be Official Sam Haskins Month! I will do my best daily throughout December to scrounge up some of my saved photos from his enormous and thought-provoking body of work that are either permissible or I can reasonably say are ads and therefore in the public domain.

Boy, oh boy! Let’s see if I can continue my streak of not getting sued before the year is up!

It’s nice to have goals.

Good food takes time

Well with a slogan like that it seems the food came out the kitchen too quickly then. And it didn’t come out all that quickly either. It took 7 or 8 minutes for my Broad Beans Bunny (BBB) to come out the little take away with 1 table outside.

It took a couple of minutes to order (and there was no one in front of me)

It was quite an expensive bunny at R15. R28 for a Mutton and R30 for Beef/Chicken. R8 for the buddy coke to go with it. I’m sure you can tell by now that I’m not thrilled with this little takeaway. The gravy was too watery and it didn’t have a lot of flavour. It was a good portion of bread and a fair size portion of curry going into that but by no means was it overflowing.

When I’m in the kloof area again I will have to hunt harder for a bunny because sadly homestyle’s Curry tucked away in the same shopping centre as Woolworths on Village road in Kloof, does not cut the grade. (Sorry I did not get the exact address but not to worry you not missing out on much)

on Village road, same centre as woolworths

I actually cleaned today. I cleaned some of my apartment. I cleaned the bathroom and did some vacuum

I actually cleaned today. I cleaned some of my apartment. I cleaned the bathroom and did some vacuuming too. For some reason, I always feel as if I accomplished something whenever I clean. It makes me feel good, weird.

I made a trip to Big Lots too. After my brother called and talked with me this morning. I got a new antenna for my t.v. and found some Chantilly perfume and lotion and just had to have that for myself. I saw a few toys I’d love to have too. But I had to put them back.

I put in one of my DVD’s, “There Will Be Blood”. It’s got Daniel Day Lewis as the main actor. So I brought Pinkie into the bedroom with me and put the big blue comfy blanket on the bed. She spent the movie with me, cuddling. She’s such a cuddler that bunny. She even made little squeeky noises before she fell asleep, all cute. I’ve never heard a bunny do that. I petted her a lot, and every time I’d stop petting her for even a second, she’d look at me as if to say “hey”. And I’d have to keep my hand on her. She grinds her teeth when she’s content. It was funny when Nala came into the bedroom to see what we were doing. She stood in the doorway and mewed a little. Pinkie sat up and looked at her. And the went back to cuddling. And Nala seemed okay with it all, laying down in the doorway until the movie was over.

My mother just called me too. She made a big meal over at her place. My brother and his kids and family went over there and had a dinner. I miss that about my mother, her great cooking.

It was hot today, the weather that is. I even put on my air conditioner for a little while. And I just realized that I’m hungry. I haven’t eaten but a salad and some coffee cake today. But I haven’t got much food.

I’m thinking about going to Bethany this Saturday for dinner. Since Sharon told me that Bernie is having a Thanksgiving dinner there on Saturday. I’ll make something or bring some chips. Ah, now I am craving chips.

I dunno why but… my sister took alot alot of pictures of hunny’s butt and tail.

So today was like… okay. I spent the morning getting fustrated at RE practice questions >.> Rawr.
Then decided it wasn’t doing me any good so I did my nails and watched the Tyra show.
Then really.. from there on I went on a tangent annnd… meh. Did a buncha random stuff I probably didn’t have to do.

But! I did go to target today and got lots of things I needed which included…
Heat protection spray for my hair.
Body wash. Its pink!
And some other items for everyday use.
very productive.
I REALLY wanted some eye liner but im not sure what one is good so imma hold off on it and do some research…

Other than that imma plan for Friday, hopefully I have a car but who knows.

Hey can I get a car for black friday? lol!

Initially when I was studying for a diploma, every time anyone asked me “What’s your plans after this?”, I used answer confidently that I’m gonna work for sometime then continue with my studies. My reasoning was simple, that I would be more matured by then and working experience would help me understand my subjects better.

So now here I am, straight after graduation in the media field – even got a job I exactly wanted. But somehow, I’m not as ecstatic anymore. I have to be honest and say that it was hard for me to accept that I’m working now, instead of having a jolly good time in uni. Suddenly reality set in and the torture of sitting in one place the whole day facing your computer screen began to crush me.

So you hate your job?

Don’t take me wrong that I don’t like what I do as a digital planner. (Okay, doing the excel sheets are bit boring but…) I’ve been exposed to so many new, interesting & challenging stuffs that I would have never known if I wasn’t working. But it’s the flexibility that I need.

Of course, everyone was advising me about it – “any job wouldn’t be easy when you start, you’ve got to work your way up”. In other words, it means you’ve got to sacrifice time that you used to have with family & friends, give up your passion, hobby and literally run of a working treadmill like a hamster.

Observing people around me, it seems like it is the norm, this is how life is supposed to be once you begin your career. Somehow, back to square one – I can’t digest that!

What’s your point?

Reading an article by Alexandra Wong in The Star, I realized that I’m not alone in this situation. Many others feel the same way but have somehow got used to it. Bunny as she calls herself in her blog, is one person who refused to be the average. Instead of going with “the flow”, she swims against it.

I respect her in many ways after reading this article, she definitely made a profound impact on me. How I wish I could take charge of my life too, and follow her footsteps. And that got me thinking, ACTUALLY WHY NOT?

So you gonna quit your job or what…?

I don’t have a plan yet, I dunno what I’m going to pursue after this – digital media, copywriting or perhaps start my own business.

By doing so, maybe I won’t have to image that I’m working in a big corporate company anymore or stand a chance to be titled a manager in the long run, or maybe I won’t be making as much money. There are many maybes, but it definitely seems like a better idea than working my life away.

But till then, I’m gonna do my very best and learn as much as I can in my current job.
