Thinking back on my dating history, that seems to be about as much of a game changer as “Freedom Fries” – especially by the fact I’m not basketball material. And that Rachida Dati thing… It wasn’t me!

Egypt: Brotherhood MP condemns ban of burkini from beaches

CAIRO: A Muslim Brotherhood Member of the Parliament rejected what he described as the “infringement of the veil and veiled women and the promotion of vice and fighting virtue among young people” over a recent decision to ban the burkini – the Islamic swimsuit that covers the entire body – from Alexandria beaches. Mohsen Radi argued in a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister and Minister of Local Development, that they must clear the “unambiguous infringement of liberties” at a number of Egyptian beaches.

He said that in many beaches in Agamy – a popular elite getaway in Alexandria – veiled women are barred from entering the water, being forced to don a proper bikini for swimming. He reported that the Paradise, Mika and Oxygen beaches have implemented the ban, putting up signs that read: “no for veiled women.”

He called the move a “serious violation of veiled women’s rights and the right to wear the veil.”

He added that this has led to resentment from many veiled women who regarded this as an explicit encroachment on their freedoms and against Islam. “How do we find people who sacrificed their lives in defense of their veil and religion in European countries, which are far from Islam and Muslims, and then find that preventing the veil and the spreading of immorality are basic slogans applied in a Muslim country?”

The MP revealed another incident that took place in a hotel in Marsa Matrouh – on the northwestern coast of Egypt – where officials from the ministry of tourism gave instructions to prevent the entry of veiled women into swimming pools, conditioning that the two-piece bikini is the only swimming suit allowed at the hotel.

He also pointed out to the incident of preventing a Muslim Norwegian woman from using the swimming pool in the hotel while wearing her veil .

The MP pointed to the displeasure of the tourist from this behavior, especially as veiled Muslim women in Europe are free to enter the swimming pools with their veil.

The burkini has received much attention in recent months, with many advocating its ban from public swimming pools. Most 5-star resorts in Egypt have already barred women from wearing the Islamic swimming suit, which has led to a backlash from Muslim women who demand the freedom to wear what they choose.

Mr. James Delingpole Britain’s Sunday Telegraph wrote a delightfully ignorant article about how the burkini (a swimsuit designed for modesty) is part of the never-ending Muslim Crusade to rule the world. Think Pinky and the Brain. Read the article – it’s so ridiculous you’ll spend half the time convinced he’s speaking in irony. Alas, no, this guy is for real- at least he thinks he is.

Delingpole claims that the burkini shouldn’t be viewed as a fashion story. Why, then, does this cosmo-wannabe spend the first three paragraphs of his article discussing how ugly it is?  It’s actually rather entertaining how colorfully racist one journalist can be.

The article, entitled “How the West Was Lost: the Burkini” rambles in a quasi-revolutionary style to proclaim that the burkini is a form of militant Islam that every Muslim is brainwashed into believing by their “extremist Imam.” So be afraid. Be very afraid – the Muslims are coming!

In the article, there are complaints about the fact that some swimming pools have Muslim-friendly hours where swimmers are required to dress more modestly. Somehow this is threatening. Nobody is asking you to wear a burkini (thank God … or rather, Allah). Would you stop all pre-natal swimming classes because they are open to pregnant women only? Muslim-friendly swimming classes aren’t “religious apartheid” as Delingpole claims; they are just another step in catering to the diversity of Great Britain.

The term extremism is only ever used by people who have no understanding of the topic they are dealing with. It enables the user to brandish jargon to disassociate themselves from the issue at hand. It implies that the ‘other’ (in this case, Muslims) are irrational and abnormal, thereby excusing us from truly understanding the situation. The oldest trick in the book is to call someone crazy to excuse ourselves from having to engage with something that scares us. Besides that, terms like “extreme” and “radical” are utterly subjective and serve little, except as a subliminal expression of one’s one viewpoint.

Delightful Delingpole believes that “when most of us think of militant Islam, we tend to think in terms of suicide bombs on London buses, planes flying into Twin Towers and 19-year-olds getting their limbs blown off by Taliban IEDs.” Let’s overlook the fact that Delingpole’s vocabulary has clearly been dictated by the Bush Administration- personally I find it disgusting that murder is being associated with a religion at all. There have been so-called terrorists (another subjective term that should be rejected if we truly wish to understand the situation) of just about every religion. I know that the above is not what I think of when I hear the term “militant Islam” but maybe that’s just because I’m a logical, thoughtful human being, if I do say so myself.

We Muslims are using the consideration and tolerance of Britain to plan our take-over. We have meetings to discuss our next steps. A lot of our actions have actually been inspired by the movie 28 Days Later. This is what Delingpole would have you believe…and our ultimate goal? A converted, Sharia-adhering army of Britons. Forget the fact that Delingpole clearly didn’t speak to the Muslim community, for if he had, then he would have realized that regardless of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s support, most British Muslims have little interest in implementing Sharia Law in the UK. Isn’t it basic journalism to actually interview or at least have some kind of contact with a community that you are writing about? More than that, doesn’t Delingpole feel that he has a responsibility to create a true picture of some 2 million people?

The fact that Mr Delingpole considers it appropriate to curtail the basic freedom to wear what we want demonstrates that he must value freedom about as much as Saddam valued democracy. Pretty ironic considering that it is his own freedom of speech that enables him to insult just about every group of people in the UK.

This kind of hypocrisy is exactly the type of attitude that incites Muslims to wear the hijab just out of rebellion. Right now, the teenager in me wants to do everything she can to spite Mr Delingpole. If you want to live in a free country, clearly a concept that still hasn’t been completely understood by him then you have to allow freedom for everyone; not just for yourself. That is the whole point of freedom.

Delingpole claims that “the reason for home-grown Muslim suicide bombers is that British Muslims are constantly encouraged to think of themselves as being different and apart from mainstream British society. Heaven knows it’s a message they hear often enough from their Imams.”

I have to wonder whether Mr Delingpole has ever met an Imam? For that matter has he ever even been inside a mosque? With respect, who is Mr Delingpole to be writing articles about a whole section of society, apparently without even attempting to understand the very people he is demonizing. Mr Delingpole ought to exercise a little bit of humility over a topic that, at best, he knows little about.

Fritidsnämnden i Oslo har beslutat att det är tillåtet för muslimska kvinnor att bära heltäckande baddräkt, “burkini”, i den norska huvudstadens samtliga kommunala simhallar.

Tidigare har flera badhus nekat kvinnor att använda burkini, men nu har kommunen fastslagit att heltäckande baddräkt inte strider mot några bestämmelser.

Questa volta ho staccato davvero, complice una pessima connessione al web e 2 piccole pesti (a dire il vero soprattutto uno, povera Marta). Ma pare non mi sia perso granché in questo agosto, almeno a vedere i blog che giro di solito.
L’Italia però, devo dirlo, mi sembra sempre più allo sbando: immigrati che muoiono in naufragi sul mare abbandonati a sé stessi, tra gli scarica barile di Italia, Malta, UE (angoscianti il reportage di Ezio Mauro su Repubblica e l’intervista sul Corriere a Titi Tazrar, una sopravvissuta), mentre quelli che sopravvivono sono indagati per immigrazione clandestina grazie alla nuova legge; omosessuali aggrediti e picchiati (dal blog di Scalfarotto); polemiche sul tricolore, l’inno (secondo Luca Sofri è una non notizia) e i dialetti (e se invece insegnassero seriamente l’inglese??); divieti di indossare in piscina i così detti burkini e di aprire negozi di kebab…un’Italia sempre più intollerante verso ciò che appare come diverso (tra i commenti: Piero Colaprico su Repubblica e di Francesco Costa sul suo blog).
L’informazione sempre più sotto controllo come raccontano in molti (ancora Francesco Costa e Massimo Mantellini) che quest’estate hanno visto il tg1 sotto la nuova direzione di Minzolini (anche a me è capitato….non sarà regime, ma insomma…)
E poi è anche morta Fernanda Pivano (la ricordo con il suo ultimo articolo per il Corriere, e due articoli su di lei su Repubblica e il Manifesto).
I numeri (questa volta il rapporto di Banca Italia, dal blog di Andrea Sacchini) come sempre dicono che gli immigrati sono indispensabile a questo paese e che l’integrazione, sarà faticosa, ma sta avvenendo nei fatti: per dire la nazionale italiana di cricket (under 15) vince i campionati europei ed è composta solo da figli di immigrati stranieri (tanto per chiudere con una bella notizia, un post altrimenti troppo negativo. Che poi, al di là di tutte le polemiche (leggetevi l’esilarante post di leonardo, da cui ho estrapolato l’illustrazione): la scusa dei bambini è proprio una vigliaccata.

E’ vero: alcuni bambini possono spaventarsi di fronte a qualcosa che non conoscono (oppure incuriosirsi: io, per esempio, ero del tipo che si spaventa). Tocca al genitore (o all’adulto di turno) spiegare al pargolo turbato che non c’è da aver paura, perchè quello che ha visto è normale e blablablabla, così il pupo si tranquillizza e sono tutti contenti. E’ così che funziona, ha sempre funzionato e dovrebbe funzionare: fa parte del processo di apprendimento e di crescita, credo. D’altra parte, un bambino potrebbe aver paura di qualsiasi cosa, o persona: di qualcuno troppo grasso o troppo magro, o troppo brutto o troppo peloso, di uno vestito strano, o magari di un portatore di handicap o di invalidità. Quando vado in spiaggia e scopro la mia gamba (che è piena zeppa di cicatrici), mi accorgo che a volte certi bambini fanno una faccina un po’ così… A me sinceramente dispiace (avevo anche pensato di coprirla), ma che ci posso fare? (Se me lo chiedono, in genere rispondo che ho lottato con uno squalo: funziona un casino). Ma nessun amministratore sano di mente si sognerebbe di proibire, che so, a un portatore di handicap l’accesso alla piscina comunale (anche perchè si beccherebbe, giustamente, una querela grande come una casa). Insomma: è compito dell’adulto spiegare al bambino che nella vita esiste la diversità, che non tutti sono fatti come si vede in tv, eccetera eccetera. E se il bambino ha paura dei tuoni, dei lampi, del buio, della panna montata, delle antenne paraboliche, che si fa? Si vietano per legge? Ripeto: questa di nascondersi dietro alle paure dei bambini è veramente una posizione squallida e di comodo.

Entrando nel merito dei burkini: io non vorrei che un credo religioso mi imponesse di vestirmi in un certo modo, ma siamo in un paese teoricamente libero e se a loro sta bene – se è una libera scelta – facciano pure. In fondo, saranno anche un pelino cazzi loro, o no? Voglio dire: ci sono dei membri dell’Opus Dei che usano il cilicio. Quello non fa paura ai bambini? Qual’è il problema allora? Offendono la nostra sensibilità? Beh, anche certi miei abbinamenti improbabili offendono la sensibilità di chi si sa vestire decentemente – probabilmente spaventano anche i bambini – e la mia ragazza vorrebbe una legge più restrittiva sulla scelta del mio abbigliamento. Piuttosto, farei notare una cosa: se vedo un manifesto di propaganda fascista, io mi sento molto offeso nella mia sensibilità. Ma quelli vanno bene, no?

A proposito della polemica scatenata sul burkini avrei voluto scrivere uno di quei post coi pipponi liberali bla bla che tanto piacciono a quelli come me (cioè lo 0.00001% della popolazione italiana) ma Leonardo mi viene in aiuto e credo di poter sottoscrivere il suo di post.

Legato alla polemica del velo mentre in Italia si verrà costretti ad andare in giro senza velo (con buona pace di islamiche, suore cattoliche, donne hindi e vecchiette sarde) nella Striscia di Gaza le bambine verranno costrette a mettere il velo in classe, come in una Mogadiscio o Kabul qualunque. Non solo ma verranno istituite “ronde del pudore” che vigileranno perché le donne in spiaggia e nei posti pubblici indossino il velo. Due mondi paralleli insomma: per il senso del pudore una donna in Europa deve stare in bikini, in medioriente coperta.

Insomma trattasi di specchio culturale in cui, a mio modesto parere, a rimetterci è solo la libertà di vestirsi come si vuole.

Quando qualche anno fa’ Massimo D’Alema arrivò finalmente a Palazzo Chigi, primo esponente del fu PCI a ricoprire quell’incarico, diede subito prova di essere un grande statista; violando lo Statuto delle Nazioni Unite e la Costituzione italiana, partecipò ai bombardamenti NATO contro la Yugoslavia. La propaganda dipinse quella guerra come “missione umanitaria” e si aprirono cosí le porte ad una serie di conflitti che – dietro falsi pretesti – hanno lasciato milioni di morti, di feriti, di vedove, di orfani e interi paesi distrutti. Parlare di “missioni umanitarie” fatte di bombardamenti contro la popolazione civile – come sta’ da troppi anni avvenendo in Afganistan – è come dire che si deve trombare per rimanere vergini. Bertrand Russell diceva, “War does not determine who is right – only who is left” (la guerra non decide chi ha ragione – ma solo chi rimane).

Ma D’Alema conosce la ragion di Stato, come ha recentemente dimostrato quando s’improvvisò valletto alla corte di Gheddafi in visita in Italia; non solo, da fine politico e profondo conoscitore della storia patria, non mancò di notare qualche anno addietro come la Lega fosse “una costola della sinistra”. Immagino Mussolini e il Fascismo siano anch’essi parte della stessa anatomia.

Se però si mette il naso fuori dall’Italia per cinque minuti ci si accorge che in Europa i partiti che hanno posizioni xenofobe, razziste e omofobe non solo non sono corteggiati dalla sinistra ma nemmeno dalla destra conservatrice; nel Regno Unito per esempio, il BNP (British National Party), su posizioni fotocopia a quelle della Lega, è tenuto a debita distanza anche dal Partito Conservatore mentre i mezzi d’informazione non vanno certo alla ricerca delle battute di demagoghi e populisti, come sciaguratamente avviene in Italia.

Non credo ci sia qualche membro del Parlamento britannico che sarebbe lusingato dai complimenti del capo del BNP. In Italia invece Pierluigi Bersani, il candidato che sembra essere favorito alla guida del Partito Democratico, rispondendo ai complimenti del leader della Lega ha sorriso, “[Bossi] e’ uno da combattimento, si capisce che preferisce avversari tosti”.

Come meravigliarsi allora che esseri umani, nostri fratelli e sorelle, siano abbandonati e lasciati morire in mezzo al mare, quel Mediterraneo che invece di unire popoli e culture sta’ diventando una fossa comune; come meravigliarsi di fronte a coloro che uccidono la propria umanità e compassione attraverso agghiaccianti “giochi” su internet.

La Chiesa Cattolica sembra alzare la voce ogni tanto sul problema dell’immigrazione, rimproverando al governo o a questo o quel ministro la mancanza di carità cristiana; ben vengano le reprimende dei vescovi ma perché allora si ostinano a sostenere attivamente e indefessamente il governo Berlusconi-Maroni? Pecunia non olet, come sanno bene al di là del Tevere.

Intanto si continua a vedere un criminale in ogni immigrato, specialmente se di pelle scura o di altra religione, si impedisce che i musulmani abbiano loro luoghi di culto e si arriva al ridicolo di mettere fuori legge il burkini e dare la caccia al kebab. In quale altro paese un ex Presidente della Repubblica – un uomo serio e di misurate parole – può affermare che il “vero scopo della Lega e’ la secessione” senza che nulla accada? Magari Bersani e D’Alema ce lo diranno al prossimo congresso del PD.

Ovviamente non credo che ci siano persone che intimoriscono così i loro figli (o quasi), tuttavia a in una piscina di Verona, dei bambini alla vista di una donna che faceva il bagno con un costume che le copriva tutto il corpo, a detta dei loro genitori, si sono spaventati, immagino pipì collettive nell’acqua di questa piscina, genitori occupati a calmare i tremolanti e incontinenti bambini.

Tralascio le motivazioni che hanno portato all’allontanamento della donna con quel particolare costume da bagno, anche se sono sicuro che se un giorno decidessi di farmi il bagno in quella piscina con un costume da bagno vintage  anni 30, per intenderci quelli a mezza gamba con le bretelle, probabilmente più che paura susciterei ilarità, ma mi farebbero stare ugualmente….

Quello su cui vorrei soffermarmi è sul fatto che i “genitori” abbiano usato come pretesto i loro stessi figli per far allontare una donna che per motivi che sfuggono alla normale inteligenza, non aveva il diritto di farsi il bagno assieme a loro.

Ecco cosa dovrebbe far discutere, non una donna che fa il bagno con un costume che le copre tutto il corpo, ma che per giustificare le proprie tesi razziste certi genitori non si fanno troppi scrupoli a sfruttare i loro figli.

Questo si che fa paura.
