Best Buy has been getting a lot of flack from conservatives who are upset that their Black Friday advertisement included a “Happy Eid Al Adha” message…

Incase anyone with a pulse has not noticed that basically from the week after Halloween in the United States stores become adorned with Christmas trees, play Christmas music, and have Christmas sales. Neighborhoods display Christmas lights, nativity scenes with the baby Jesus, and everywhere you look you clearly know – it’s Christmas. No biggie, right? People wanna celebrate their holiday, what’s wrong with that?

Conservatives are upset that Best Buy is acknowledging the Muslim Eid holiday in their Black Friday advertisement.

So at some point, the Jewish community got Hanukkah on the radar of businesses… and some companies started wishing customers a Happy Hanukkah… in ads, on TV… some stores even sell blue Hanukkah cookies. Cool. Along came Kwanzaa… same thing. Ads on TV, the occasional print advertising piece. No biggie. So…. some people seriously have an issue with Best Buy just printing Happy Eid Al Adha? C’mon now… I don’t have problem with Christmas overdose every year, so ease up on the Eid ad (ONE FRIKKIN AD).

It was interesting reading the comments on the Best Buy community forum, where people referred to Eid as a “goat-slaughtering festival”… yikes! Maybe they didn’t realize the lamb’s meat was to be distributed to the needy (a la soup kitchen?)… or maybe they’re just hardcore vegetarians? I guess all the turkeys and ham that are served during the holiday season just magically appear without head and feathers from Tyson’s foods…

In all fairness, I can see how some are ticked that in an overly politically correct world, some stores have moved away from using Merry Christmas all the time. Fair enough. However, that doesn’t exclude people from other faiths from having their holidays celebrated and acknowledged publicly. It’s not a zero sum game. In fact, the case for a Eid Al Adha or a Happy Ramadan advertisement only strengthens the case for a Merry Christmas ad, a Happy Hanukkah ad, a Happy Kwanzaa ad, and a Happy Divali ad… again, a rising tide raises all ships.

Personally, I appreciated the ad. So I went and bought the new Jay Z CD and a spiffy video game from Best Buy! They clearly wanted my business!
