The Obama administration announced today that it will not seek to arrest medical marijuana users and

The Obama administration announced today that it will not seek to arrest medical marijuana users and suppliers as long as they conform to state laws, under new policy guidelines to be sent to federal prosecutors Monday 19th October. A 3-page memo spelling out the policy is expected to be sent Monday to federal prosecutors in the 14 states which allow some use of marijuana for medical purposes, and also to top officials at the FBI and the DEA.

According to officials, the memo is designed to give a sense of prosecutorial priorities to U.S. Attorneys in the states that allow medical marijuana. It notes that cannabis sales in the United States are the largest source of money for violent Mexican drug cartels, but adds that federal law enforcement agencies have limited resources – It emphasizes that prosecutors have wide discretion in choosing which cases to pursue, and says it is not a good use of federal manpower to prosecute those who are without a doubt in compliance with state law.

And while the policy memo describes a change in priorities away from prosecuting medical marijuana cases, it does not rule out the possibility that the federal government could still prosecute someone whose activities are allowed under state law. Two Justice Department officials described the new policy to The Associated Press, saying prosecutors will be told it is not a good use of their time to arrest people who use or provide medical marijuana in strict compliance with state laws. The new policy is a significant departure from the Bush administration, which insisted it would continue to enforce federal anti-pot laws regardless of state codes. Fourteen states (Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington) currently allow some use of marijuana for medical purposes with more States expected to follow suit in the near future. California remains unique among those for the presence of dispensaries – businesses that sell marijuana and even advertise their services.

Attorney General Eric Holder said in March that he wanted federal law enforcement officials to pursue those who violate both federal and state law, but it has not been clear how that goal would be put into practice. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss any legal guidance before it is formally issued. Officials were keen to stipulate that the government will still prosecute those who use medical marijuana as a cover for other illegal activity. The memo particularly warns that some suspects may hide old-fashioned drug dealing or other crimes behind a medical marijuana business. In particular, the memo urges prosecutors to pursue marijuana cases which involve violence, the illegal use of firearms, selling pot to minors, money laundering or other crimes. Medical marijuana advocates have been anxious to see exactly how the administration would implement candidate Barack Obama’s repeated promises to change the policy in situations in which state laws allow the use of medical marijuana. Shortly after Obama took office, DEA agents raided four dispensaries in Los Angeles, prompting confusion about the government’s plans.

David Beckham was out celebrating with his England teammates after beating Belarus 3-0 at Wembley last night.

But while he was England’s man of the match, it seems the footballer is less than popular across the Atlantic.

In a sign of his dramatic fall from favour, he has been named one of the biggest sporting flops ever seen inAmerica.

The Los Angeles Galaxy star came in the top ten of what one U.S. magazine called the biggest ‘busts, choke artists’.

U.S. based Maxim magazine said Beckham’s move to the Los Angeles team was nothing short of a ‘catastrophe’.

After all the publicity about his £125m move, it said the former Manchester United star has failed miserably to make football – or soccer as it is called in the US – more attractive to fans.

It said: ‘Three seasons into what was supposed to be the magic bullet that finally made soccer relevant ( i.e. profitable, interesting, televised) in the U.S., David Beckham’s much publicised move to MLS and his grotesquely huge contract are nothing short of a catastrophe.’

The magazine highlights the recent pitch confrontation between the 35-year-old former Manchester United star and fans who were angry at his part time move to AC Milan.

Beckham was jeered and booed when he returned to the team after a spell on loan to the top Italian side.

Happy Thursday everyone! And what a beautiful Thursday it is. After three days of gloom and doom,

Happy Thursday everyone! And what a beautiful Thursday it is. After three days of gloom and doom, we are back to bright sunshine and clear blue skies. But my, how cold it’s getting in the mornings here. It was a nippy 45 degrees this morning while Nik and I were standing at the bus stop. Fall is definitely in the air.

Look at this fun art project Nik brought home for homework today. Didn’t realize you could have clay homework, but I guess I have a lot to learn.

Looks just like her, doesn’t it? This is Nik’s self-portrait bust. I don’t totally see it, but she did capture one thing perfectly. She almost always has a piece of hair hanging in her eyes, which drives me crazy but doesn’t bother her in the least. I think it’s completely precious that she has portrayed that characteristic of herself in this sculpture.

I’ve been piddling today. Decided I wasn’t really happy with how my Halloween mantle was looking, so I’ve been moving things around and re-arranging, and adding, and subtracting all afternoon. I tried a couple of radical alterations, but ended up keeping things pretty similar to before except for adding a few more pieces to make it look a bit fuller. I also added a black scarf for a touch of softness. Here’s how my mantle looked before.

And here it is after all my fussing.

Not really much different……but I think I’m happier with it now. What do you all think?

And now I have a couple of cards to share. The first is for the current challenge over at the Cardalicious blog. You are to make a birthday card using the colors red, blue, and yellow.

I used mostly old goodies from my stash for this. Patterned paper by MAMBI, chipboard letters and flowers by K&Co., blue chipboard tag by American Crafts. I also added a stick pin, some ribbons, and a enamel sentiment piece from Marcella by Kay. Part of the greeting is a stamp by SavvyStamps. It always feels good when I break out those stamps and put them to use.

My second card is my Halloween share for today’s 31 days of October.

This card has a combo of papers from Martha Stewart, Target $1 Spot, and K&Co. I glittered a wooden BOO die-cut from the craft store in green and added a simple bow with an owl cut-out. This one was quick and easy, yet fun.

Thanks for stopping by! I always love to hear from you!
