Hoy os voy a dejar con este tema de iconos para Gnome. Es uno de mis temas favoritos y se ve muy bien. Esta sacado del sitio Gnome-look, en el cual encontrareis muchos temas de iconos interesantes, tanto como wallpapers y muchas cosas más para tunear tu escritorio Gnome.

El tema en cuestión se llama Buuf Deuce, y podeis descargar tanto los iconos normales, como el puntero para el ratón. Si no sabeis como intalar un tema en Gnome (nadie nace sabiendo) podeís miraros este completo post de taringa. Os dejo una captura de mis escritorio, con los iconos y el puntero en cuestión.

Mi escritorio con los iconos Buuf Deuce

Hobbes heeft zijn bloedonderzoek gehad. Onze Buuf/dierenarts is zelfs op haar vrije dag naar de praktijk gegaan om de uitslag op te halen. Vanmorgen kwam ze op de koffie (gezellig!) met de uitslag (spannend!).

Gelukkig was alles picobello in orde! Het bleek dat hij een ontsteking had gehad, maar dat dat aan de beterende hand is. Eventueel zouden we antibiotica kunnen gebruiken om het proces te versnellen, maar gezien Hobje verder geen klachten vertoont, was dat niet nodig. Het vele plassen wordt dan veroorzaakt doordat Hobbes zijn afvalstoffen extra kwijt moet.

Grappig en wonderlijk genoeg bleek uit het onderzoek ook, dat zijn nieren dusdanig goed werken, dat we zijn medicijnen weer mogen proberen af te bouwen. Als dat goed gaat (ook zonder medicijnen), mogen we zijn speciale nier-voer ook afbouwen en gaan mengen met normaal voer. Nu ben ik redelijk nuchter en moet ik nog even zien of het ooit zover gaat komen, maar als de medicijnen eraf kunnen zou dat al mooi zijn. We gaan er dus mee aan de slag! We zijn benieuwd!

I remember growing up in small town Idaho where a summer tradition was to get a lawn chair, grab a pitcher of tea or lemonade and just sit back and relax.   Sometimes a neighbor would come on over and say hi, ask about the kids, the job, what you were doing for the weekend…etc.   And you could do the same when your neighbor repeated the tradition.

Now we live in a faster paced world where we can email, IM, text, beam, blog, twitter your contacts.  The problem is the old Front Porch connections have broken down or disappeared.  But according to several sociological/organizational studies we still have a need to belong.

What has happened is that several groups and organizations have gone to what is known as Web 2.0. which is linking like minded individuals through the Internet.   It is a modern version of the Front Porch and can be done where ever you have a live Internet connection and a few free moments.   Technology in its dual headed hydra role can isolate and divide or unify and bond.

One of the things that most organizations need is a database for their information.   Now a database is the electronic equivalent of a filing cabinet, where you keep your business records, personal records, other important information, yesterdays sandwich you forgot about, that pair of socks you couldn’t find..etc (on second thought please ignore the last two there).   The problem is as you grow the two door filing cabinet you have you probably grow out of.   And we are reaching that point with what we have.

Now with the subject of data there seems to be two camps, those who have the brave new world and those who have the terminator approach to the topic.  The brave new worlds crew sees technology as the white knight that can do no wrong.  We are all calling Scotty on our communicators asking to please beam us up.

The Terminator branch sees data and information as evil, dehumanizing and possibly even leading to the end of the world.  They point to survelience technology, nuclear weapons and the like as the examples here.

The important point is to look at the value system behind the choice.  Knowledge and technology are value neutral.  A fire can be used by a arsonist or a cook, but the values behind the usage are obviously different. For a example of knowledge in a positive environment take a look at the barefoot college.

So is either side right or wrong here?  No, the question should be what values are you using for the use of your information?  Look in the mirror and you will have your answer.
