Το Buzzer Beater υπερήφανα ανακοινώνει την επιστροφή του!

Δεν μπορούμε να δώσουμε μεγάλες υποσχέσεις, αφού ο Ελληνικός Στρατός μας κρατάει ακόμα δέσμιους. Αλλά σίγουρα θα ξεπεράσουμε τα hits του google και φυσικά θα μεταφέρουμε όσο είναι δυνατόν, τα τελευταία πιο ασήμαντα αλλά και άκρως ενδιαφέροντα νέα από το μαγικό κόσμο του ΝΒΑ. Η αλήθεια είναι πως το blog θα μπορούσε να ανοίξει πολύ νωρίτερα αλλά η Art & Design Team δούλευε πυρετωδώς για τη δημιουργία του νέου header.

Η επιστροφή του Buzzer Beater θα ανεβάσει ακόμα πιο ψηλά τη δημοτικότητα του ΝΒΑ, κάτι που φαίνεται να χαροποίησε ιδιαίτερα τον David Stern.

Βλέποντας τους Nenad Krstic, Carlos Delfino, Carlos Arroyo, Jannero Pargo, Earl Boykins, Primoz Brezec, Brandon Jennings κ.α. να επιστρέφουν άτακτα στο ΝΒΑ αφού γνώρισαν από πρώτο χέρι την έλλειψη οργάνωσης στην Ευρώπη (συν πολλά ακόμα που θα τα αφήσουμε καρφιά για άλλα posts), δε θα μπορούσε να μη κάνει come back το Buzzer Beater από τη παραμεθόριο.

Κατ’αρχάς, έχουμε ηθική υποχρέωση να αφιερώσουμε το πρώτο βίντεο σε έναν από τους πρωτεργάτες για την επιτυχία του Buzzer Beater, τον Ron Artest. Αλλά και να ευχαριστήσω όσους συνέχιζαν να μπαίνουν κατά καιρούς στο blog και να το κρατάνε ζωντανό. Το επόμενο κομμάτι  της Celine Dion είναι αφιερωμένο και σε εσάς…

This is one most Raptors fans will remember quite vividly, but with a date against the Clippers Friday night, there’s never been a more appropriate time to pull it from the archives. From what I recall, this was one of a few game-winners Vince hit over the span of a few weeks back in early 2001. Ah, a great time to be a Raps fan. Little did we know how he’d do us in.

Also, on the subject of buzzer beaters to break the poor Clippers’ hearts at Staples Center, here’s a look back at T.J. Ford’s of a couple seasons ago. Personally, I’ll be happier if we wrap tomorrow’s game up by halftime and not let it get that point.

I’ve watched a bit of sports in my day, but I have to say this was the closest call I’ve seen in my life. It really could’ve gone either way, so I’m guessing the savvy, motivated crew of NBA refs had their money on Denver from the get-go. Hey, I’m not gonna fight it — any loss by a mediocre Eastern Conference team benefits the Raps.

In the spirit of the opener, here’s a look at some of Crazy-Eyez Killa’s greatest hits from his days in Orlando:

L’accoppiata basket e fantascienza non e’ del tutto nuova per quanto riguarda il Giappone. Viene subito in mente il manga Buzzer Beater di Inoue Takehiko successivamente trasposto in anime.
Tuttavia la recente serie di animazione Basquash! presenta numerosi punti che la rendono uno dei prodotti piu’ innovativi dell’ultimo periodo, al contempo essendo un ottimo lavoro di SF.
E’ innegabile che lo scambio di esperienze tra animatori giapponesi e francesi e’ riuscita a dare un tocco decisamente differente da quello che si vede in altre animazioni. Salta subito all’occhio qualcosa di famigliare ai lettori di fumetti d’autore europei (soprattutto belgi e francesi). I palazzi e gli sfondi non sono quelli delle citta’ ultramoderne giapponesi dagli alti grattacieli di acciaio, ma invece le basse costruzioni tipiche delle citta’ europee in mattoni. Thomas Romain e la sua equipe che si sono occupati dell’ original concept, art director, mechanical concept design e key animation hanno infatti infuso in Basquash! il meglio della tradizione del loro paese quali la grande paesaggistica presente nei cartonati francesi. Inoltre il regista Itagaki Shin ci ha messo del suo. In Basquash! c’e’ un atmosfera internazionale in genere meno presente nei manga e negli anime giapponesi dove la presenza di protagonisti stranieri e’ sempre limitata di numero e ridotta a un ruolo secondario (anche se poi ci sono notevoli eccezioni come Michiko e Hacchin). Qui invece abbiamo un personaggio come Miyuki Ayukawa che, a dispetto del nome, e’ chiaramente di origine africana o come Sela D. Miranda che ha le caratteristiche di una ragazza sudamericana. Man mano che gli episodi proseguono la psicologia dei protagonisti viene delineata con estrema cura svelando particolari, come per Iceman Hotty, che spiegano i loro atteggiamenti. Nel frattempo quella che pareva una storia relativamente semplice si amplia in una serie di colpi di scena ognuno dei quali apre una nuova dimensione costruendo cosi’ una costruzione affascinate e piu’ complessa di quello che inizialmente si poteva supporre e dando vita ad un bizzarro mondo sostenuto sull’essenza del basket quale origine della vita stessa in quanto giocato dagli dei stessi nell’atto della creazione dell’universo. In bilico tra space opera e steam punk con punte nell’hard SF, altalenante tra intrigo e racconto romantico, le avventure dell’impaziente Dan JD e dei suo compagni ci ricordano in qualche maniera la versione moderna dei personaggi delle storie di Salgari e di Verne. Come non vedere nel sistema di viaggio verso la luna che consiste letteralmente nell’essere sparati all’interno di una palla verso il satellite un divertito omaggio al Barone di Munchausen e a Viaggio nella Luna? Strizzatina d’occhio poi allo street basket americano, qui dagli esiti esageratamente distruttivi e al contempo comici visto che viene giocato con robot alti diversi metri chiamati “Big Foot” i quali altro non sono che delle automobili a cui sono state aggiunte braccia e gambe. Indossano enormi scarpe da ginnastica disegnate appositamente dalla Adidas per questa serie divenendo forse il primo esempio di sponsorizzazione di un prodotto all’interno di un anime.
Ottima CG poco invasiva si accompagna ad un azzecato uso di colori pastello per i personaggi. Il tutto arricchito da un’eccellente colona sonora che varia spesso durante l’intera serie. Le stesse sigle di chiusura sono una sperimentazione in quanto, dopo i primi episodi, variano struttura in maniera considerevole.
Basquash! rappresenta un’evoluzione importante degli anime con apporti maggiormente internazionali rispetto al passato e un promettente preludio verso il futuro dell’animazione. Qui e qui un esempio per farsi un’idea piu’ concreta.

In the 2004 NBA Playoffs, the Spurs and the Lakers squared off in the western conference semi-finals. When they played game 5 at San Antonio, the series was tied 2-2. Late in the fourth quarter, Kobe hit a shot with 11.5 seconds remaining in the game to put the Lakers up by one. When the Lakers thought they had the Spurs beat, Tim Duncan answered with a ridiculous jumpshot from the top of the key to put the Spurs up by one with 0.4 seconds remaining in the game.

Duncan’s shot was absolutely impossible. He was fading away from the basket with a 7 foot Shaq in his face. The San Antonio fans celebrated as if the Spurs had just won the series even though the win would only give them a 3-2 lead in the series. But they had no idea what was about to happen. They had no idea that one of the greatest buzzer-beaters of all-time was about to occur.

After a timeout, the Lakers attempted to get a good, quick shot. However, they couldn’t even get the ball in and were forced to call a timeout. The Lakers walked back onto the floor with a lineup of Kobe Bryant, Shaq O’Neal, Gary Payton, Karl Malone, and Derek Fisher. Gary Payton took the ball out with 0.4 seconds still remaining on the clock. The Lakers again ran a play. The first option was an ooop to Shaq for the quick dunk or tip but the Spurs and everybody in the world watching the game knew that would be the first option. The second option was Kobe Bryant who desperately tried to get open at the top of the key. However, the Spurs double-teamed Kobe and he never had a shot of even getting the ball.

Then out of nowhere, the smallest man on the floor sprinted across the lane to receive a pass from Gary Payton. Payton found Fisher on the wing and fed him the ball. Fisher caught the ball with his back turned to the basket. With no time to square his shoulders or feet, with no time to think about any other option than shooting, with no time…period, Fisher threw up a shot that seemed impossible to make yet it was dead on. He was fading away from the basket with Manu Ginobili in his face. It looked good from the moment it left his hand. That perfect shot came from the third option, of a broken play, with barely enough time on the clock to even get a shot off. But he made it hitting nothing but net. As they say in Watchmen, “It was like turning air into gold.”

The best part of the game for me was looking at the facial expression of the Spurs after the game. I reacted by jumping as high as I could in front of the TV. My dad jumped so high that he hit his head on the ceiling fan. However, the San Antonio players couldn’t move. They were stunned. The life was simply sucked out of them. They couldn’t believe what happened. They actually challenged the shot a day later. Who could blame them? They were about to take a 3-2 lead in a best-of-seven series. Their despair was accompanied by my laughter in the living-room of my house. I loved every second of San Antonio’s misery.

The Lakers won the series in 6 games and beat the Timberwolves in the next round to get to the finals. However, they lost to the Pistons in 5 games.

It was fitting that both teams kept hitting clutch shots until the clock stopped them. Both have dominated the league in the past decade. Since 1999, the Lakers or the Spurs have been NBA champions 8 out of the last 11 NBA seasons. Each had four. Lakers( 2000, 01, 02, 09) Spurs(1999, 2003, 05, 07).

BUZZER BEATER for Derek Fisher.  This game was so close all the way through, but there was a high number of fouls that were not called.  Sometimes the refs just called the ball “out of bounds” rather than give the earned foul.  Kinda crazy, but Los Angeles squeezes through and Magic is troubled with the lost.  If Magic would of won, they probably would of had momentum going into the next game. Now, Lakers are sitting lovely with another game to clinch the championship.  Check out the buzzer beater shot on video above:

On May 24, 2003, a certain knucklehead entered the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception a deacon. He left the building a priest.

…Last night, LeBron got his revenge. He beat the clock.

The man IS amazing.

I went bananas when that shot went down. I thought they would run some sort of alley oop play going to the rim. CLUTCH.

It was absolutely amazing.  It was unbelievable.  Something that the NBA has  needed since the 90s…

… a travel to be called late in the game on a super star.

Oh, whats that you say? Big Game James? Oh yes!  That reminds me:

The Chosen One has arrived and its time for the world to bask in his glory!

The world will remember what happened May 22, 2009 for eternity.

LeBron’s last second shot. Few things in life are achieved in such little time and none are as glorious.

With this, a new era has begun.   Basketball has been changed forever.  With this shot the name LeBron James will forever be remembered alongside Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill  Russell… and whoever else you may put him against, yes even Michael Jordan.  Basketball finally has the star its needed since Jordan hung it up.  The NBA has found someone to fill the void.  Its something that Kobe, Shaq, Carmelo, Iverson, Nash and any other player couldn’t do.  The reign of King James has finally and officially begun.

The images will be iconic.  The momeries will last forever.

2009 seems destined to be the year of the King, as Lebron has been pulling out all the stops. Last night was just another example of his greatness, with LBJ somehow resurrecting his Cavs after Hedo Turkoglu had seemingly stuck a knife in Cleveland’s heart. A 2-0 hole would have been tough for even the Lebron’s to climb out of, so these end of game heroics are even more special. Lebron’s three will be one of his greatest career highlights, similar to MJ beating Craig Ehlo and the Cavs back in ‘89. Friggin’ unbelieveable.

Lebron’s shot also made Nike happy, as it kept their dream Kobe v Lebron final on track. They’ve been pimping the 24 v 23 in a new set of commercials, and I must say, Most Valuable Puppets is great marketing. I pray for Lakers v Cavs every night before I go to sleep, and so does Phil Knight.
