OMIGOSH!
This book was one of the greatest I have ever read.
The blurb for the book was:
“Best friends, boyfriends, problem parents, purple hair. Brothers, sisters, fireworks and unexpected babies.
Welcome to Caddy’s World.
The stunning prequel to the best selling Saffy’s Angel.”
I’ve also read Saffy’s Angel. I have to agree that this book was stunning. In fact, it was a beautifully written book that pulled at my heart strings.
It made me one to cry at some parts, and made me want to yell out, “You don’t understand! You useless person, dumping your THREE girlfriends for someone with pink hair!”
*that situation REALLY TOOK PLACE.*
It’s hilarious and heartfelt.
It was so good, I FELT like the character, hurt when the several characters were hurt, jumped for joy when they were happy, and ANYTHING that they felt I felt like I was in that situation too.
This book really has nothing much about boyfriends, just that three of the four twelve year old -main- characters went out with a dude named ‘Dingbat’, but he likes the fourth girl, Alison and dumped all her best friends for her.
The relationships in this book were hilarious and funny.
Everything in this book was filled with pure innocence, some misunderstandings, but mostly a lot of carefully pieced-together views of the kids in this book-ranging from six to twelve years old.
‘Caddy’ is one of the beat friends, supposedlly the bravest of the brave as she is not afraid to nurse sickly animals that she finds. She would cry for them after.
A very funny part was when Caddy found that her father had bought three fish, and then she and her sibilings-Saffy and Indigo-dug graves in the already messy yard.
Caddy’s real name is Cadium.
She lives next door to Alison.
Alison is referred to: ‘The one who hated everyone.’ She was going to move to Tasmania.
She was the most out-going in the group, or maybe the most daring in ways such as make-up. She dyed her hair a ‘shimmering, radiant fuschia pink’, and every boy in school took notice (LOLz if I did thing, everybody would be giving me strange looks)! She applied mascara and lip-gloss and painted her eyelids several rainbow shades. Dingbat said, “Caddy is cute, Ruby is brainy, Beth is sweey! But what about Ali (Alison), the gorgeous one?!”
OMG-daring boy. I mean, seriously, he wanted all of the four girls.
Ruby is the brainiac-she was to got to a ‘Warbeck’s Academy’ as she got a scholarship when she received spectacular scores. Both her parents had died and all four of her grandparents pooled their savings to buy a house, move in together and raise Ruby!
Ruby didn’t want to go to the academy. She stuffed an invitation into her backpack to go and hid it from her grandparents.
Beth is the perfect one. She is resposible, kind and sweet, but later develops an eating disorder. She wants to slim down and stop growing, as she finds herself too tall. She won’t eat anything but Mars Bars, and after eating each one she throws up.

This book had many unique characters, and I’d DEFINITELY reccommend you to read it!
BTW: It’s by Hilary McKay.
Read it!
XOXO,

I’m setting myself the challenge to read all of the books on the long list before the winner is announced. 52 titles in 6 months. That’s 2 a week….. I’d better get reading!

Since my last post I have read….

Artichoke Hearts by Sita Brahmachari

A surprisingly good read. I had expected it to be overtly ‘girly’ but instead it is the story of Mira and the approaching death of her Grandmother. Full of gentle humour, and looking at the close relationship between them, this story is a really good read, and although I didn’t cry I found the moments when her Grandmother says goodbye for the last time to people and friends as she goes about her dasily life poignant.

Quarry by Ally Kennen

A strange tale. Largely unsatisfying. Scrappy – the lead character recieves increasingly bizarre dares via his phone, so he has a go at doing them. The mystery is who is sending these texts and why. Naturally, set against a background of recent parental separation (why the mother doesn’t do more to look after him I reallt do not understand!) he feels he has no one to turn to – apart from the school bully…. The reveal is both unexpected, and yet such a let down.

Caddys World by Hilary McKay

I’m fairly sure that if I had read all the books that this prequal links to then Im sure I might have laughed at the in jokes, and spotted moments of “Oh that’s why….” As it was it was an okay story about four girls as their lives slowly change for a different reasons. If you liked Saffy or Indigos story then you’ll proberably enjoy this book too!
