Scott Krokoff is an independent singer-songwriter from Queens, New York, and a former tax attorney who recently took the bold step to pursue his dream to have a career in music.  Largely influenced by 60′s and 70′s artists, Scott plays alternately mellow and energetic folk-rock in a pop voice, or what you get when you mix Paul Simon and Lindsay Buckingham.

 

Back in his college days at Binghamton University, Scott began his music career as a singer and songwriter in a band called Equinox, which later became a frequent performer in the New York City scene during the 1990’s.  Like many others before him who took the responsible and practical route, Scott completed law school while he was still a member of Equinox, and began a promising career as a tax attorney with some of New York City’s largest and most prestigious firms.  Scott never gave up his dream, however, and in February 2008 resigned from his full-time law position to more seriously pursue a music career.

 

Music blogger Annie Reuter of You Sing, I Write noted that Scott’s debut CD, A Better Life, “can be easily kept on repeat all day long” and that “many of his songs could be easily heard on the radio.”  She also remarked that “after giving A Better Life a close listen, I’m glad Krokoff quit his day job to pursue his passion.”  Similarly, Colin Meeks of Indie Launchpad concluded that A Better Life “is one of those albums that you listen to, and in the blink of an eye it’s over. This is a trait that marks a fine album.”

 

Scott’s CD, A Better Life, had a solid debut on the college radio circuit during the summer and fall of 2009, receiving airplay on over 130 radio stations, and has been well received on internet radio stations like Jango. More recently, in August 2010, Scott’s song, “A Better Life,” was featured on The Today Show in connection with one of the segments on the NY Yankees Hope Week initiative.  In addition, in August 2010, Gary Allen (drummer from The Charles Daniels Band and JJ Cale) selected Scott’s song, “Holy Fire,” as the winner of his Best New Song In The World competition on Sonicbids.  Gary will be promoting the song in the coming months on TennesseeConcerts.com and in his Music City Beat newsletter. Back in February 2009, “A Better Life” placed Runner-Up in Mike Pinder’s (one of the founders of The Moody Blues) SONGWARS songwriting competition, also featured on Sonicbids.

 

Scott’s home base is in NYC where he has played at venues such as The Bitter End, Bar 4, The Living Room/Googie’s Lounge, Pianos, Bar East and 169 Bar as he continues to cultivate his local fan base.  He has played outside the NYC area as well, appearing at Vermont’s famous Higher Ground, The 14th Annual Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, PA, and The 3rd Annual Cape May Singer-Songwriter Conference in Cape May, NJ.  He also had the pleasure of playing in the Bluebird Cafe-sponsored Singer-Songwriter Tent at The 1st Annual Country Throwdown at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in May 2010.  He made his international debut in Belgium in August 2010 at a concert hosted by one of his biggest fans, Bart Reniers, who discovered Scott’s music on Jango. 

 

Scott is proud to present his debut CD, entitled “A Better Life,” released under his own record label, Hypochondriac Records.  Produced, engineered and mixed by long-time studio veteran Bob Stander at VuDu Studios, and mastered by Gene Paul of DB Plus, A Better Life contains 13 radio-friendly tracks featuring catchy, energetic acoustic rhythms spanning the genres of folk, pop and rock.  Scott is backed on the album by several notable musicians including former Wings drummer Steve Holley (also known for his work with Dar Williams), keyboardist Paul Errico (known for his work with Steve Forbert), legendary jazz saxophonist Mario Cruz (who has toured with the likes of Jaco Pastorius and Bruce Springsteen), pedal steel virtuoso John Widgren, veteran drummer Shawn Murray (of Cadillac Moon fame from the LI music scene), percussionist/vocalist John Michel and guitarist/vocalist Mark Newman (a well known singer-songwriter in his own right). 

 

People of all ages have found Scott’s music appealing, relating to his music not only because of the terrific rhythm and energy each song possesses but because he represents the desire we each have to dream big and live life to the fullest.

”A Better Life” is a superbly-crafted inspiring song about the torment faced by one who is on one path out of necessity but would like to be on another by choice.  It is a dilemma faced by many in jobs or careers they find frustrating and unfulfilling.  The song is very much autobiographical in nature since Scott found himself in a lucrative profession earning a six-figure salary as a tax lawyer while knowing in his heart that he wanted to pursue his dream to become a musician.  Through the song and his own actions, Scott is proving with his voice and his music – and inspiring others to discover – that true fulfillment in life is found when you ignore the voice of your fears and listen to the voice of your heart!
