Guess what arrived today? My travel crate!

The lovely Dogtainers Pet Travel Consultants people brought it to our house in a big car machine…

Are you tensing your core muscles before you lift?

Usually, travel crates are put in the house – like in the living room, where most of the family spend their time – so us doggies can get used to staying in it there…but in my case, it’s so big and our house is so small that it would have taken up half the house!

So my humans decided to leave it in the garage and I could just go and practise staying in it there for a short time each day.

Hmm...the latest in luxury canine travel, huh?

Anyway, my human, Hsin-Yi, will probably be spending a lot of her time in the garage in these last couple of weeks packing up all our stuff…so it’ll give me a handy place to laze around while supervising her!

Hsin-Yi let me sniff all around the crate and explore it in my own time – she didn’t try to force me to get in or anything like that, which made me think it wasn’t so scary after all.

You see, I have never been crate-trained and so I have not been used to being confined in anything small in my life. But the key to introducing new things to us doggies is to not rush us but be very patient and let us take “baby steps” at our own pace and have lots of positive experiences with it, so we associate it with nice things and learn to like it.

Hsin-Yi had put an old yoga mat and blanket down in the floor of the crate to make it nice and comfy for me to lie on…and then she put 2 yummy cookies in it and just waited to see what I would do…

Well, silly human – what does she think?

It was a bit of a tight squeeze turning around to get back out but I managed!

Breathe in! Breathe in!

(To be honest, I’ve had lots of practice squeezing into tight spaces this year having to ride in our tiny car machine!)

Since Hsin-Yi was busy doing her ‘crazy Camera Machine dance’ around me, I decided to humour her and stay in the crate a bit to pose for her pictures…

After that, she let me get out and we went back into the house. She said that since this was the first day, it was good enough just getting me going into it happily & voluntarily - after a few more days of this, she will try getting me to do a Down Stay in there (with the door open) so I learn that I have to stay in there for a while…

…and then after a few more days of that, she will shut the door but stay around me, doing stuff in the garage…

…and then after a few more days of that, she will shut me in it and go back in the house for a few minutes…

…gradually working up to leaving me shut in it alone for longer and longer times. Baby steps, remember?

I will also be getting super yummies when I go in the crate, like special chews and stuffed Kongs, etc – and maybe also having some of my meals fed in there, so I will really associate it with good things!

* By the way, in my original post about doing our “Moving Overseas” thing, some of you asked in your comments about whether us doggies should be sedated when we are going in the Big Flying Machine. Actually, this is a very old idea which is wrong because the medicines used to sedate us can make us doggies very sick when we are in the air.

Hsin-Yi recently wrote an article on Emigrating with Your Pet for one of her dog magazines and here is an excerpt from that article, which will explain to your humans better why pets shouldn’t be sedated for air travel:

You might think that a good solution for nervous, timid dogs would be sedation. But in fact, sedating an animal is probably the worst thing you can do and airlines now refuse to carry any animal which looks like it has been sedated.

Sedation reduces an animal’s ability to cope with stress, such as moving around, panting, drinking and so on, and some sedatives, such as ACP, may actually directly affect thermoregulation. Furthermore, aircrafts are pressurised at between two-thirds and three-quarters of normal atmospheric pressure, which lowers the blood pressure of both humans and animals. Since sedatives also work by lowering blood pressure, the combined effect would be seriously dangerous to the health of the dog.

However, help is at hand for anxious dogs, through the use of natural anxiety-relievers which do not lower blood pressure and are safe to give when administered according to veterinary advice.

“Dogs with major behavioural/ anxiety problems such as severe separation anxiety are not good candidates for travel,” admits homeopathic veterinarian Richard Allport. “The dog is away from the carer, in a strange, noisy place for a long period. However, natural anxiety relievers such as herbal Skullcap and Valerian, or homoeopathic Passiflora are usually helpful.”

“Most dogs will cope, which is not to say there isn’t some degree of stress involved. Just like people, every dog is different. Most dogs subjected to sitting in a kennel in the cargo hold for several hours would find the experience pretty unpleasant but would soon – perhaps not forget – but put the experience behind them. Because dogs live much more in the here and now than we do, the experience may be, if anything, more stressful at the time, but conversely they may be even more able to move on and put it behind them. A few, more sensitive, dogs might have a deeper and longer-acting reaction. It’s a question of knowing your own dog.”

Choosing a reputable, experienced pet transport company can also make a big difference in reducing the stress to an anxious animal. Not only would the company know how to select the most direct air route and keep the time spent in travel crates to a minimum but many of them also have ‘strategies’t to help anxious animals cope better.

“We spray all our crates with DAP pheromone spray which helps the dogs,” says says Bob Ghandour, Veterinary Consultant and Director of PetAir UK, which flies thousands of pets per year around the world. “Also, a nervous pet can have his crate to get used to it before the flight and they will usually travel very well.”

I’m sorry it took so long to get back to you guys,this was the biggest give-away i have ever seen. First: Brett has all of the tools to beat i guy like this but he didn’t have the experience in tough really tough fights like this one, he has been for the most part knocking his apponets out in the first round and not getting to learn some things about being in dangerous and unexpected situations,this came back to haunt him! The first round they felt each other out,Fedor is very good and very confident when he enters the ring,most fighters don’t understand that when you come into the ring with that much bravado “for lack of a better word” you will win most of the time,what i mean by this is you have the confidence in yourself that you can do anything you want in the ring if you  do your best, this guy has that type of personality and it shows in every fight he has, so how do you stop a guy like that?Hmm, give him a taste of what it is like to have that confidence taken away from you then he will question himself and that will open the door for you to capitalize  on his set back, but you have to do it quick or he will regain his composure and take back what you took from him! Brett did that and because he was not use to being in this type of situation he let it slip away and lost his chance to beat this guy.After the first round Brett got over confident didn’t protect his chin thinking because he cut Fedor with a scary jabb and he was bleeding bad,brett thought he had it in the bag,Hahahahahahahahahaha!Fedors corner told him to end this because if he didn’t he would lose on a technicality”BLEEDING TOO MUCH TO CONTINUE”so at this point Brett thinks he cool right now,just let the fight come to you,BAD MOVE!Fedor came out with reckles abandonment almost and pushed Brett to fight and caught him bouncing up and down like he had the fight and hit him with a straight right and dropped his big ass and pounded him a few times and the ref called a stop to it quick, the end, he gave it away, all he had to do is throw punches in bunches and keep this guy thinking but because of  not having the smarts to see the position he was in he got stopped, he could have finished the fight because he wasn’t out,WELL this is the thing you get when you allow the ref to have a say in the thing because he didn’t want brett to beat this guy because he saw the cut himself and everybody knew he was looking for a reason to help his guy win and Brett unfortunately YOU GAVE ONE!!!

Going back but he’s speaking on it all. Stereotypes, racism, music progression etc…Good stuff to revisit.

It is November 18  and another explosive WEC event is about to go down. Featherweight champion Mike Thomas Brown is set to take on top contender Jose Aldo in what many say could be the fight of the year. Aldo brings a very technical but vicious striking game, while Brown is a very strong and well rounded fighter with good wrestling and submissions. Although Aldo is more known for his striking, he is a bjj black belt and is definitely no pushover on the ground. I predict a high intensity close fight, with the title going to Aldo by way of second round KO or TKO.

Okay, I’m in class so this won’t be a long post. We have to re-do the cover of a book or magazine. I chose The Black Stallion book by Walter Farley, since I loved all of those books when I was a child. They gave me good memories. I’m making the barcode and everything for the back of the book. There’s the barcode .
I’m not posting the cover until it’s done.

It’s late, I worked today and then went home to play with my bunnies and watch Oprah. I let Priti out of her cage and she hung out on the couch with me. Ever time I stopped paying attention to her and looked at the t.v., she’d jump off the couch. So I’d get up and tell her to “get back on the couch” and shake the pink blanket at her, and she’d jump right back up onto the couch, just like that. She’s being a good girl. It was so cute. She did it 5 or 6 times while I watched Oprah. And before I left for school I put her back into her cage and she didn’t throw a fit. Now I just have to find my Goldie her cage and get her feeling more secure there at home.

Tomorrow I’m doing a good cleaning job. I’m even going to buy some vacuum bags so that I can do a vacuum job. Those bunnies made a mess in the closet and under the bed.

Work was kinda boring today. Clarence said he saw some rabbit cages in an alley near work while he rode his bike there today. But when we drove over there to find them, the were gone.

I decided to take my birdcage out for a walk the other day

Eriq Durga has become the new Killer Fight Gear Open Weight Champion at Friday Night Fights XVIII. FNF XVIII was held at the White Lake Combat Club in Whitehall, Michigan.

I really wish I could find the original video for this song, with them doing coke off strippers asses and then puking on them. DAMN! These were the days! Before Cage got all emo. When these dudes did it, they did it. Someone find me that video!

Chimp attack victim Charla Nash recently revealed the extent of her injuries on the Oprah Winfrey show. A 200lb chimpanzee named Travis, who was the pet of her then employer Sandra Herold, attacked her in February of this year when she exited her vehicle at Mrs Herold’s house to try and help get Travis back into his cage. She had arrived at the property at Herold’s request. In the attack Miss Nash lost her hands, eyes, nose, lips and eyelids as well as a portion of her scalp. Mrs Herold hit Travis with a shovel and stabbed him twice with a butcher knife in an attempt to rescue Miss Nash before retreating to her car and making a frantic call to police. They arrived and one officer was forced to shoot Travis as he attempted to attack again. He staggered off inside the house where he collapsed and died. On the Winfrey show Miss Nash told Oprah that she couldn’t remember the attack and did not want to. She did tell of an earlier incident in which Travis had jumped on her back and pulled out a clump of her hair. She is currently still undergoing treatment for her injuries in hospital and says she enjoys the feeling of sunshine on the daily walks she takes around the hospital. I sincerely hope this courageous lady makes as full a recovery as she can. This story must surely be the strongest argument against keeping clearly dangerous animals in a domestic environment. I think it’s worth remembering for those people who continue to think keeping such animals as pets is a good idea, that animals think with animal instincts, not with the human thoughts their owners like to attribute to them. Anche i ricchi piangono, si sa. E questa volta è toccato a Nicolas Cage. L’attore e produttore americano (ma di origini italiane), classe ‘64, è nei guai fino al collo con il fisco. Il sito di gossip People.com racconta che due sue ville nel quartiere francese di New Orleans sono state vendute all’asta per la bellezza di tre milioni di euro: Cage non riusciva più a pagarle.

L’attore ha denunciato il suo ex manager addossandogli la responsabilità dei suoi guai finanziari e accusandolo di aver fatto investimenti sconsiderati. Fatto sta che, secondo i documenti depositati a Los Angeles, Cage deve al fisco imposte arretrate per un valore di sei milioni di dollari (circa quattro milioni di euro).

E lo scorso aprile il protagonista di «Birdy» e «Ghost Rider», che è anche nipote di Francis Ford Coppola, aveva venduto un castello in Germania ammettendo di non essere più in grado di mantenerne la proprietà.
