Am incercat de 3 ori sa scriu o introducere pentru acest post, dar tot sterg, pentru ca nu imi iese. Asa ca incerc fara introducere:

Vali a ales destinatia unui weekend in 2: Buzau, vulcanii noroiosi si imprejurimile. Asa ca sambata dimineata am plecat cu zambetul pe buze intr-acolo.

Odata ajunsi la Vulcani, peisajul s-a schimbat imediat: pamantul era arid si crapat, iar santurile aveau chiar si cativa metri adancime. Parca ne aflam pe Luna: vara vegetatie, forme de relief ciudate, dealuri si movile din care curgea noroi. Vulcanii nu sunt atat de numerosi, insa unii dintre ei sunt activi, dupa cum puteti vedea in imagini: eruptiile nu erau spectaculoase, insa erau ciudate. Bule imense apareau la  suprafata vulcanilor, astfel incat aveam impresia ca cineva vrea sa iasa din noroiul acela miscator. Am cutreierat relieful selenar de la un capat la altul, pana cand aproape s-a lasat noaptea.

Am plecat apoi spre Hanul de Piatra (jud. Buzau, com. Magura, sat Ciuta – suna ca la Radio Romania Actualitati), unde am si innoptat, insa cu toate facilitatile erei moderne (wireless internet included). Am fost rasfatata cu o cina romantica la lumina lumanarilor, cu muzica frumoasa, ce mi-a adus aminte de Craciun, si cu un vin bun care a facut ca discutiile sa curga.

Duminica am inceput-o cu micul dejun afara intr-un foisor, cu razele soarelui care ne incalzeau si ne mangaiau, si ne faceau ochii mici-mici de la atata lumina. Am plecat spre tabara de sculptura de la Magura, despre care am aflat ca a avut loc in anul 1972. Am coborat primul deal, ne-am minunat (drrraga cititorrrule) de ceea ce au vrut sa trrransmita arrrtistii, am admirat sculpturile, fiecare le-am asociat cu ce ne-a trecut prin minte: ciobanii din Miorita, concertul U2 360, The Wall – Pink Floyd, scaunul urias – videoclipul Depeche Mode – Enjoy the Silence etc. Apoi am observat ca mai este un deal si mai mare presarat cu sculpturi, pe cealalta parte a soselei. Am mers si intr-acolo, unde am descoperit ca artistii “se inspirau” unii de la altii, deoarece domina “motivul gaurii” – aproape toate sculpturile aveau una sau mai multe gauri in ele. Un caine dragut ne-a condus prin padure inapoi la masina, si de acolo am plecat spre Herghelia Cislau.

Dupa ce am gresit drumul, am urmat niste indicatii gresite, am intotat (la propriu) in noroi, si am derapat cu masina, am ajuns intr-un final si la Herghelia Cislau. Acolo, ingrijitorii au ras cu toata puterea lor de oameni sanatosi de la tara ce sunt, cand au aflat pe unde am venit, si cred ca le-am dat si un subiect de conversatie la tuica de seara. In fine, herghelia este imensa, si am inteles ca acolo se afla niste cai foarte valorosi. Sunt de rasa pursange Englezesc, iar exemplarele cele mai reusite se vand la licitatie pe bani multi. In grajd, am admirat adevarati campioni ai curselor de cai, apreciati pentru puterea, eleganta si frumusetea lor atat in tara, cat si in strainatate. Afara, pe pajiste, alergau manjii ce pareau salbatici (abia la varsta de 3 ani incepe dresajul): abia am pus mana pe unul dintre ei. La Herghelia Cislau am avut placerea de a calari pentru prima data. Domnul Nelu a pregatit o iapa blanda, ca pentru incepatori. Eu am fost prima in saua Lisandei, unde mi-a placut foarte tare. Dupa doua ture de tarc, deja voiam sa trec la avansati, insa am fost informata ca asta se face numai pe propria raspundere. A urmat si randul lui Vali, care a reusit sa se urce singur pe cal (eu nu am putut), si caruia i-am facut cateva poze gen Marlboro. Am plecat fericiti, nu inainte de a-i asigura pe domnii de la herghelie ca vom reveni cu siguranta, ba chiar si cu cativa prieteni in plus.

Drumul ne-a purtat pe serpentine ametitoare pana la barajul Siriu, construit din pamant, pe raul Buzau. Apoi, inapoi in Bucuresti, prin Valenii de Munte, Ploiesti, si proaspatul pasaj de la Baneasa, unde am trecut ca un cutit cald prin unt: nu am asteptat deloc, la o ora la care de obicei erau cozi interminabile.

A few weeks back Cai told me about Warhammer Invasion the card game, and I was really excited about it because firstly, I love card games, especially the collectible ones though I haven’t seriously collected any of them, upon the advice of the boyfriend, and secondly, there’s something amazing about the game system in most cardgames. So far my favourite CCG is Magic The Gathering, and I thought Deadlands CCG was very good too because it incorporated spatial aspects into it.

So since we’re playing Warhammer 40k for miniatures now, and we’ve bought the Dark Heresy rulebook last week, we’re pretty much in the Warhammer Frenzy phase! Today Warhammer Invasion finally arrived, after waiting for weeks for it! Though it’s not a collectible card game, the variety and number of cards in the set allows for a great number of permutations in the deck so I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be pretty dynamic and different each time we play it. This is like our newest baby and of course any parent is excited about his/her newborn! Looking forward to try it soon!

Suffice to say, the musical was awesome, and I think Laura Fygi’s voice is one of the best I’ve heard.We were lucky to have been upgraded to stall seats from Circle 1! So, great view, great performance, and a great great company!

I don’t believe in ‘love at first sight’, but I do believe that sometimes you can get attracted by a person’s demeanor before you even speak to him/her. And I guess for LC it was like that. I was attracted by his mannerisms, his looks, the way he talks,  and Cupid decided to agree with me and grant us a chance to know each other. And true enough he is a very attractive person despite how most people would say that his deep voice makes him seem serious or unfriendly and aloof.

I found him mysterious, intriguing and like no other I’ve met and talk to. And his very queer hobbies at that time got me hooked. In fact though he has repeated the same Role-playing stories for the past 3.5 years, I still laugh at them, and actually, what I love all the more is to watch how adorably excited he gets whenever he recounts those experiences.

I like that he is a very nice guy, and he has a very nice heart. I like that even though he wasn’t from a top JC or a straight-As student, he was much  wiser and thinking than those who are. I like that he isn’t racist; I like that he does not quote statistics to back up his racist remarks; I like that he is willing to discuss anything with me in this world; and I like the way he makes me feel so cherished, loved, taken care of, and important. I like that he’s a quiet guy; I like that he’s very peace-loving because I’m rather confronting and I need someone to rein me in; I like that he loves his family and puts them first, even before me and for that I love him even more; I like that he loves my family and treats my parents well; I like that he puts in a hundred percent in all that he does and he’s not a slob; I like that he’s very reliable. I like that throughout his life, he was never easily influenced by his surroundings, and he remained steadfast and unmovable in his character. If anyone would say I left my faith cos of him, well he’s largely wrong, and even if it were the case, look at the above and you’d see that he’s better than majority of the Christian men I’ve known out there.

But I’m sure that I don’t love him because of the above reasons, or any of them at all. I am very very blessed, to have found someone who’s like that. And I always feel bad that I am usually the menace

I kept telling him recently that if it weren’t for my Mum’s strict upbringing when I was a teenager, I would have become a delinquent, probably aimless in life and just living a life of decadence. As I make introspective reflections about myself and the way I react and think, I do know for a fact that I have too inquisitive and bold a spirit that it would probably have posed a large problem when I was younger. I liked being in the know. I liked being liked, I liked being popular, and I liked being loud. And I am really thankful, upon looking back now, that my Mum played the right cards, and did what she thought was necessary to teach me and protect me. And of course I am thankful that I didn’t take those beatings and scoldings the wrong way, but instead, turned out not too bad. Well at least I didn’t do anything that could have jeopardized my education in any way. If it weren’t for her I might have been a mum at 16 ! (Okay i’m exaggerating a little.)

No one likes being beaten or scolded. And as much as it was effective for me, I don’t think I would bring up my child the way my mum brought me up. Of course there were some things that I disagreed with about the way she brought me up, and of course it is arguable whether it is necessary to hurt a child so much to drive a lesson home. I mean, the correlation between pain and learning, isn’t that well established. But looking at the larger picture of things, there are just so much my parents have sacrificed for me and I’m sure it was all done in love (try raising up your own daughter next time, and let’s see how liberal one can be despite all that we say now.) . And I remembered those times when i did really bad things, they were surprisingly patient with me, forgiving, and they were ALWAYS there for me.

And so there is nothing to blame. I know that I have a problem controlling my anger sometimes and I do know that I have this tendency to talk like my Mum or react like my mum when I get angry (which is, to behave unreasonably and suspend all rationality at that moment), but the way we are brought up should never be an excuse. In fact, for anyone of us at all, the way we behave, react, think…etc, should not be explained away by shifting all the blame on our parents and our upbringing. All of us are entitled to our own choice, and we act mostly with volition. We have agency in our lives, and we can choose otherwise. Life hasn’t set upon us a mould in which  we are bound and constrained.

I guess the post has digressed quite a bit, from my sighs of love, to talks of parenting and life. But that’s how random I can be.

In any case, my point is, we can make breakthroughs in our lives, as long as we make a conscious effort to try. And being stuck in the mindset that our present lot is the fault of our parents, isn’t going to bring us anywhere.

We met up with Karina , Derek, Cheryl and Erwin yesterday and it was a lovely meet up. Just having fun and hearing them talk about work.

Ce urmează  mai jos se dorea a fi un comment la postul Tomatei, însă cred că ar fi ieşit mult mai lung decât postul ei, aşa că m-am hotărât să aştern pe propriu-mi “jurnal” câteva din hobby-urile mele. Cele mai plăcute, evident.

- am să încep cu pasiunea mea pentru cai. Am mai scris în câteva posturi despre faptul că de micuţă am decis că animalul meu preferat este calul. Mi-a plăcut decizia luată şi aşa a rămas pentru mulţi ani (26 mai exact) şi va rămâne şi de acum încolo. Sunt îndrăgostită de animalele astea frumoase, mari şi puternice, dar delicate totodată. Dacă aş putea, cred că toata ziua aş sta călare pe spinarea lor şi aş galopa pe unde aş vedea cu ochii. Dezavantajul, care de altfel e şi motivul tristeţii mele la acest capitol, este preţul puţin cam piperat, dar şi faptul că nu se prea găsesc centre de echitaţie prin Temeu (dacă nu mă înşel e doar hipodromul, despre care nu am reuşit să adun nici măcar un minim de informaţii);

- ador fotografia. Ador să transpun în virtual imagini surprinse prin obiectiv. Ador să privesc cu un alt ochi tot ce mă înconjoară, să văd în alte culori, în alte tonalităţi, în alte unghiuri. Ideal este de abia atunci când contopesc acest hobby cu cel ce urmează;

- călătoria. Înainte iubeam să merg cu trenul. Şi am mers ani şi ani, până mi-a ajuns de mizeria din vagoane, de idioţi şi de beţivi. Şi aşa am renunţat încet încet la tren. Mai apoi mi-am cumpărat-o pe Focussaaahhh ( imagine cu caracter informativ. Focussaahhh e muuult mai frumoasă ) şi de atunci am devenit două prietene incredibil de bune. Nedespărţite, aş putea zice. Cu ea mi-ar plăcea să străbat ţara şi alte meleaguri fără oprire (bine na, câteva ore de somn nu strică). Cu ea am fost la greci şi cu ea m-aş duce înapoi. Cu ea vin la servici şi ne plimbam prin oraş, cu ea merg la Maramu’, cu ea, cu ea, cu ea… Şi tot cu ea merg atunci când vreau să fotografiez ceva. Amândoua savurăm împrejurimile. Eu cu aparatul, ea cu roţile;

- tot o pasiune e dansul. Sportiv. Am făcut 3 ani din acest sport şi cred că au fost printre cei mai reuşiţi ca şi activitate sportivă. Nu am să mă apuc să înşir care din dansuri mi-au placut cel mai mult, însă pot să afirm că fiecare în parte mi-a insuflat un alt sentiment. Am aflat că un dans aparent banal poate fi plin de senzualitate şi de graţie. Iar muzica… o ascult şi acum, cu aceeaşi plăcere ca şi atunci;

- o ultimă pasiune pe care am să o prezint aici este schiul. Da măi, de abia aştept să îşi intre iarna în drepturi, să se umple pârtiile de omăt, să îmi iau doagele (vorbă veche de-a lu’ tata ) în spinare, iar mai apoi s-o conving pe Focussaahhh să ne suim la munte. Să urc în varful pârtiei şi de acolo să pornesc în jos, prin pulvăr proaspăt. Să mai dau şi cu curu’ de pământ, că altfel nu e iarnă (dar numai o singură dată, da?), să mă ridic, să râd cu pofta şi să pornesc din nou, cu obrajii împunşi de gerul aspru. Iar la final un pahar de vin fiert… ungere de inimă, nu alta. Şi cu puţină scorţişoara…

Doar câteva pasiuni, dar nu singurele. Însă cele de mai sus sigur mă fac un om fericit atunci când le practic

I think what I don’t like about borrowing books from the library is the fact that I can’t take my time to ponder and re-read some parts of the books. So yes, although I’ve finished 80% of Kundera’s ‘Immortality’, I am still going to get that book and do a re-read. Heh.

Can’t wait can’t wait! It feels like a first date

A la amiguita la hicieron retirarse. “Si no te quitás, te matamos…” y a ella la tiraron al suelo y allí, bocabajo y sin mediar palabra, le pegaron varios tiros.
Los sicarios huyeron a toda y la gente salió de sus casas para encontrarse con la escena. Una jovencita paralizada por el terror y otra jovencita de 14 años muerta en plena calle.
El papá y la mamá llegaron minutos después a llorar en medio de una angustia sin límites.

Dalle 10 alle 18.30 è stato un giorno di passione per Alitalia. E se CAI ha deciso di non applicare – almeno per ora – il famigerato “nuovo orario di lavoro” (questo il motivo dell’agitazione), da parte delle assemblee del personale di terra non sembra esserci volontà di interrompere le proteste.

Come dire… il tempo passa ma Alitalia è sempre la stessa…

El Cai juega hoy sábado a las 18:15 contra el Mallorca, y la verdad es que ya toca ganar un partido fuera. Hoy debutará La Mole, el jugador panameño que va a ocupar un plaza de americano, además hay más noticias en el frente caísta.

Rafael Hettscheimmer que ya se ha recuperado de su lesión va ir cedido durante 3 meses al equipo ACB, Xacobeo Blusens (Obradoiro). Esta decisión es un poquito extraña ya que si se ha recuperado, ¿Por qué no nos lo quedamos ya y cortamos a Elonu que está muy verde?

Será un partido especial para José Luis Abos y Willy Villar que han pasado varios años trabajando para el Basquet Inca, pero la gran novedad del encuentro será el debut de Jaime Lloreda y la presencia de las cámaras de Aragón Televisión que retransmitira el partido desde las 18:15.

El rival tiene la baja del pivot Daniel Northern, máximo reboteador del equipo con 7,8 y la duda del base Joan Riera. En lo que va de temporada esta destanco Marc Blanch con 14 puntos por partido, en un equipo que anota mucho 80, pero que tambien recibe muchos 78,5 para un balance de 3-4.

Por el CAI Zaragoza la única novedad será la del panameño Jaime Lloreda, recién llegado y según José Luis Abos un poquito pasado de peso, que dispondrá de sus primeros minutos como rojillo.

Esperemos ver una victoria fuera de casa, para que se nos alegre a todos y empezar a situarnos en la parte de la clasificación donde tenemos que estar, el primer puesto.

Yesterday was a rather extraordinary Friday, in that we didn’t have anywhere to go, and we just hung out at my place most of the time, playing boardgames with my little sister, and then heading out for Supper at CCK park.

Taking the long walk home thereafter, we paused at the bridge that looks down at the KJE, and he mentioned that this is a great spot just to stare and relax. And it immediately triggered the memories of those times in Hawaii, where the apartment at Kaipu’u Street was too noisy, or stuffy, that I would take a walk to the bridge that looks down at a stretch of road that leads to a freeway. And I loved that spot because of the seemingly infinite amount of space that reaches out at that level that I was standing. And in an uncanny way, he felt the same way about bridges too.

I know I must be taking this a little too far,esp for a sciency brain like mine, but these are just one of those little things that make us feel  that we are meant for each other. That nothing else feels more right than this.

We braved through the chilly wind and the rain under the flimsy black umbrella, and the chilly wind reminded us of that part in  Hong Kong where we were walking home in the 10 degrees celcius night with his tipsy uncle back to the apartment. And the first night in Korea where we walked briskly out in the cold with our thick jackets to the supermarket to get some snacks.

It’s really so wonderful that we have shared so many beautiful memories over the 3.5 years  of being together, such that even at the present, it’s these little moments that unite us, not just physically, but emotionally as well, in our sweet reminisce.

And we have so much in the future to look forward to.

The Senior Researcher will assist in providing the information necessary to develop and carry out our campaigns. In particular, the Senior Researcher will play a leading role in developing strategies for the Value [the] Meal campaign.  Our research focuses on documenting abuses by targeted industries, power mapping corporate targets to inform campaign strategies and tactics, and supporting the development of policies and international regulatory instruments to control transnational corporate behavior. The Senior Researcher is responsible for gathering, analyzing and presenting information; fact-checking organizing and fundraising materials; and cultivating relationships with key allied organizations and experts.

Major Responsibilities:

• Conceptualize and conduct research and analysis of transnational corporate activities and industry trends.
• Work closely with the Campaigns Team to further develop campaigns to stop life-threatening abuses by transnational corporations and identify and gather information to implement campaign tactics.
• Monitor and analyze corporate responses and progress relative to campaign goals and objectives.
• Produce written reports for organizational leadership as well as for public distribution.
• Develop and cultivate contacts with key organizational allies and experts.
• Ensure accuracy of all communications, campaign and fundraising materials.
• Participate in organization-wide planning, fundraising and campaign activities.
• The Senior Researcher maintains and manages the organization’s information base, under the guidance of the Research Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Demonstrated commitment to corporate accountability and social justice, with a global perspective.
• At least 3 years experience in strategic corporate research, organizing, and advocacy, preferably at a campaign-oriented organization.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge of corporate accountability issues.
• Demonstrated experience in quantitative analysis, including facility with spreadsheets.
• Experience in fact-checking.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Experience organizing and/or developing a campaign related to food systems a plus.

Salary: $33,600 – $40,800, depending on experience, with a generous benefits package.
